I've taken Amtrak, Megabus, and Bolt bus frequently to/from NY & DC. I've also taken greyhound/peter pan. When we moved over to NW DC, it was not worth going all the way to Union station, so we gave Vamoose a try. I must say, it is far superior to the other bus lines. This bus always leaves on time. The check in is orderly, unlike the ordeal from NYC in the cold that is Megabus and bolt bus. They even sometimes give you water for the ride! Changing bus tickets online is extremely easy. My favorite part is if you sign up for rewards, you get a free ride every five rides or so. I might still take Amtrak on major holidays to avoid excessive traffic, but all other times, I will take Vamoose. read more

I was unsure about taking a bus to NYC , but the Vamoose Gold luxury bus was recommended. So I booked reservations for me and my daughter. Process was easy. Check in was easy and the driver was pleasant as was the attendant. The seats were smaller than what I expected and the recline was good. The WiFi was a bit inconsistent so in the middle of my song playlist, it was in and out. The bathroom was clean but we were not offered any bottles of water which was clearly stored with our luggage. There was no communication from our driver about ANYTHING, even when the bus broke down in the middle of the highway, 30 minutes to the entry into NYC., We received no update while she spoke on the phone with the company to gain assistance. This heightened my anxiety. When a passenger inquired about what was happening, we still got no response. When I saw her dashboard with the engine light on, I knew it wasn't good. She was able to get us moving and then asked us " do you guys want another bus?" When we switched buses, the other driver pointed to where we should place our own luggage not wanting to help. I was in a medical boot for my broken ankle. Then as we boarded the second bus, it was cramped and we had to sit wherever, cramped. I was not pleased read more

We had been taking the Vamoosebus for years. The point system used to be motivating (free ride after 3 RT booked) and the company so pleasant to deal with. On-time service, clean buses, nice people. A couple of years ago, they changed their reservation process to a No Cancellation policy. No excuses, medical emergencies included. You can put them on hold (though the process online is tedious, and frankly bizarre) for 18 months but no refunds. In addition, those nice lovely representatives seem fewer and farther between on the phone. The one I recently spoke was quite rude and dismissive. And this - for tickets that are now $ 140 RT, (they were $80 a few years ago) so its not a deal anymore either. The point redemption has also changed dramatically. What was 180 points for a ride is now 430. The train is now eclipsing the Vamoose experience for us as a result, which is sad. Some great memories of this once lovely company. read more

I've been riding with Vamoose for years. Solid buses and drivers. Unfortunately, I had an experience with the company and their policies that have made me think hard about riding with them again. On a weekend of supposedly bad weather, they cancelled our 11AM bus for our return trip. The surrounding bus times (10AM and 12PM) were Gold buses so they offered a discount to "upgrade". To make the reservation, policy (and support) stated we had to pay $20. Why did we had to pay at all? I suspected they'd cancelled the 11AM for lack of bookings not the weather -- the 10AM and the 12PM were as scheduled and the weather was supposed to clear up (it did). They had a regular priced 12:15PM bus, but our travel timing dictated we had to return earlier. They told us to supply my CC or no reservations. I could contact about it later. In short, 3 emails back and forth, they stand by their rules, even though the company, in effect, lied, saying the bus time was cancelled for weather so they could make us pay more money. It felt/feels corporate and rude. Look, It's a little thing, $20, right? For me, $20 is food, it's the basics. I've been a customer since the beginning. For Vamoose, what's 20 bucks? When your longtime customer has a valid point, just give them the $20 -- that's good customer service. Instead, I got the party line and give us your money to ride on the more expensive bus that we're making you take. These days, there are other solid choices for the NY - Bethesda, MD bus trip. I would give my experience on Vamoose bus a ZERO if I could. I took Vamoose bus yesterday (Friday) 12:30pm to Bethesda Maryland from NYC. The bus driver sorry to say was absolutely incompetent. The way he drives made me sick. When he stops to traffic, he stops as if he was about to hit something. The bus jumps when it starts to move again. That was how he was driving and will not be taking Vamoose again. I was nauseated and felt like throwing up the whole time. read more

I recently took this bus to the DMV area from Penn Station NYC and the trip actually went very smoothly. At first I was skeptical because I have never heard of this bus service before but I would definitely recommend it. The bus that I took makes 3 stops. One in Bethesda, Maryland, Arlington, VA and Lorton, VA. I took the bus to Lorton, VA. Going there the bus was quite empty and driver drive very well and smoothly. Coming back to NY, the bus was quite packed but the seats were very good. They had ample leg room which made it more comfortable despite it being a 5 hour ride. Note: the two buses I took were quite different. The one going was a bit more cramped but coming back there were more space between seats. This bus also has seats that recline, charging outlets, a bathroom, and storage space above. Overall would definitely recommend Vamoose to anyone going to the DMV area. Also don't be surprised if when you are boarding the bus it has DC Trails on it. There is a Vamoose sign in the front of the bus just for some reassurance. Also the staff was very kind. Vamoose is an excellent option for a hassle free trip between MD/VA and NYC. It is cheaper than the train, cheaper than the plane. And has less overhead than both of those methods, there are no airports and waits involved. It more convenient than driving on your own, not only does it free up your time instead of having to pay attention to the road, but also you dont need to pay any tolls. In fact the tolls alone are nearly the cost of the bus ticket. In my experience (3 trips so far) the bus has always left on time, and the experience if fairly smooth overall. I would suggest that you arrive at the pick up spot at least 20 minutes before departure if you want to have your choice of seats. The gold bus is more comfortable than the regular bus, and if you get there extra early (are amongst the first 12 people to board the bus) you can get one of the single seats if you happen to be travelling alone. The bus is reasonably clean, they provide you with a bag for trash, and there is generally some sort of WiFi (slow, I posted a bandwidth test image) available on the bus if you need it. In some cases they provide free water, this is been hit or miss on non-gold rides, and pretty much guaranteed on gold rides. Personally I find the pickup and drop off locations to be extremely convenient (Bethesda/Penn station), and for this reason alone I will be riding the Vamoose bus again. read more

On the Regular bus t seats have no leg room whatsoever. Having driven four hours without a stop and legs being in a cramped position is unhealthy. Bathroom is not clean. Bus is not clean. In these pandemic times passengers are not reminded to wear masks. The Gold bus has more leg room. However no stops were made. It is a smaller bus and it is rickety. To walk back to the restroom while the bus is moving is very dangerous. I would pay more to have a better bus with more leg room, b cleaner, and I would feel safer. read more

ATTN: Vamoose Executives Recent Experience 1: NY to VA via Gold Bus. Bus broke down twice on way to Lincoln Tunnel. Once at a busy intersection and once near Morgan Post Office underpass. Driver even told supervisor that check engine light came on when he was driving back to NY yet we we're still loaded onto the bus. This is negligence. What if the bus broke down on 95? Why was the bus not pulled out of commission when driver informed supervisor check engine light came on? Your negligence put all bus passengers' lives at risk and delayed the journey for an hour. Your response was a credit back of our own money for the risky ride. Wow, thanks! Recent Experience 2: NY to VA non-gold bus, on my way to the bus stop, I find out the 2:30PM bus was delayed to 3:30PM. No apologies, no credit, no explanation. Recent Experience 3: VA to NY Gold Bus, right this moment I'm waiting for the once again DELAYED Gold bus that was supposed to leave at 11:20AM but didn't show up until 11:50ish. Supposedly Gold Bus keeps breaking down yet customers are charged upwards of $60/way. Stop treating us customers like kids. When the bus leaves 30mins late and you tell us that we will still arrive on time, that is not Vamoose delivering good service. All it means is we could have arrived 30 mins sooner had the bus left on time, instead, the driver is pressured to drive faster just to try to make up for lost time. This is not fair to your drivers and passengers. Called customer service and was told to write an email with my complaints to Support. Wrote email and no response. read more

What can I say - I have been using Vamoose Bus for the last 3-4 years between Bethesda and NY and it is the best bus service compared to my previous experiences with Megabus, Chinatown Bus(the worst - avoid at all costs), Tripper Bus, Greyhound Bus(avoid). Booking Vamoose Bus is an easy website to navigate and can also handle your rescheduling of bus-tickets or putting tickets back on-hold if you can't use it. BONUS - Reward Point System - Points are awarded for each ride taken with Vamoose and after a few rides, an free ride is offerred for being an loyal customer. I haven't quite figured out the point system just yet (or haven't read carefully enough about it) but it looks like the conversion is for every 5 one-way tickets (2 round trips and 1 One-Way), you get one free one-way ticket. Pretty darn good system especially if you travel more frequently. Deparature Arrival in NYC The dropoff/pickup location is conveniently located at 31st and 7th Ave. Really convenient location as it's near alot of major subway lines so it is easy to get to. Also, there is an taxi stand line one block up for those who need an cab. Departure Arrival in Bethesda The dropoff/pickup location is also conveniently located at 7401 Waverly Street in Bethesda. This is an really great spot as the metro is one block away and there is an huge indoor parking garage for you to park your car. There is also an Cosi Cafe and Starbucks on the same block so you can grab an snack for the bus ride. Time - Each ride takes about 4-6 hours really depending upon traffi but I would say about 85% of my rides take about 4.5 hours. Bus - This is what separates itself from any other bus service. The bus itself is clean and outlets work. Bus is comfortable. No bad smell. Bathroom is equipped with hand sanitizers and toilet paper and is relatively clean for an bus. They also offer an Gold Bus version (double the cost) that offers more luxurious options such as more space and leather seats, laminated floors, etc. Customer Service - Customer Service is really good. They do an good job and look out for the custoer service. You get to talk to an live person and if you can't change your ticket online (they shut down changes 1 hour before departure), the customer service will do it for you. I've changed my ticket a few minutes before the departure as I got stuck in subway traffic on my way to the station. GREAT Customer Service. Ride - The ride itself is relatively smooth also regardless of where you sit. I have not had any bad experiences with other fellow bus riders. Most bus drivers will not make an pit stop but it is up to the discretion with the bus driver whether they will take an pit stop. Most pit stops are an rest area where you can pick up an snack and use the restroom. They give you 15 minutes so it's enough time to grab an snack, use the restroom and get back on the bus without feeling too rushed. Price - With all these great points, the only small downside is that it costs more than other bus services. If you book it really early in advance and on an off-time departure, you can get the ticket for 20 bucks. Most tickets are either 30 dollars or 40 dollars. I paid for a luxury bus experience and got a Megabus experience! Highly disappointed! The bus driver arrived early and STILL made everyone stand in the extreme heat with our bags. When we asked if we could get on the bus since the staff were talking in the diner, they gave us an attitude and said that we have to wait until 11:30 to board. These photos are us at 11:40! Vamoose rocks. I've been using them for years and never had any issues. I've rescheduled my NYC trips a few times and they always credit my account indefinitely (meaning I can reschedule the trip whenever I want, no expiration OR fee for canceling & rescheduling later). Customer service is great - a live person answers when you call and they're professional and courteous. The buses are clean and usually pretty timely. If this is available to you, it's the way to go - save tolls & stress & money and just chill on the bus! Tips: * Arrive early because they start to line people up in advance - seats are first come-first served. * Arrive early! The black guy named Joe R (one of the people checking the customers in) was the most rude and disrespectful p.o.s. I've ever dealt with. I was the first to arrive in line and he comes up to me and mumbles something that kinda sounds like English to me. My initial reaction was that he said stand to the right of the vamoose sign, which is what I did. He comes up to me 5 minutes later and says with an annoyed attitude, "I said stand behind the sign." I have been a loyal Vamooser for 3 years now, but this is my second trip with some weirdo driver named Godfrey who appears to be on a strange ego-trip. I'm a quiet rider and I greeted him by name this time; I remembered him from before because he'd been kind of obnoxious, spending a lot of time talking about the "rules" and about how the guys at the weigh stations all knew him, blablabla. So before I moved to the city, I was all, ew I'm not taking the bus I'll take the train, etc etc. Well people, the $30 bus is just way more economical and I've probably made 6 round trips so far. I love that I can wake up and decide on a whim to go home to Bethesda, book a ticket and be on my way. Also, it's kind of the same amount of time as the Acela+metroing to bethesda. I'm still amazed at the one time the wednesday before thanksgiving we made it in record time- 3 hours and 15 minutes leaving at 7pm! Usually, its around an hour more than that to/from Bethesda. I made the mistake of taking a noon bus back to NY once that took like 5 hours due to making a stop. This was the only time I've been on a bus that made a stop. The buses are clean and the people riding it are mostly yuppies/college kids/business peeps (at least on the NY-Bethesda route). The wifi is really slow but I mean, you paid $30. If you're lucky, you'll get one of the buses that has outlets at every seat. I also like that you can show up and be "stand by" if you're early for your bus and there's a different bus already sitting there. And that they check you in with an ipad. So high tech. Now, one time when I was feeling fancy (read: hungover) I treated myself to the Gold bus ($50-60) which was pretty sweet. The seats are a lot bigger and you can guarantee yourself one that doesn't require you to sit next to a stranger when you're just not int he mood. Sign up for their rewards program when you book, and every fifth trip is free. read more

In all honestly, I prefer taking the Amtrak but if I don't feel like shelling out $141 bucks for a last minute ticket to DC... Vamoose is a great alternative. It is the best bus service of the bunch. One way regular bus fare from NYC---Bethesda---Rossyln--Lorton are $30 a piece, and the GOLD bus (which I take) are $60 for a round trip ticket. They slightly more expensive than their rivals, but a decent rewards program makes up for the difference in price. Take the regular or gold bus 4 times than you get a free ticket... The Gold bus is golden:). Comfy wide reclining leather seats. Oh yes did i mention plenty of leg room.... very important for a tall drink of water like me. $25 each way to Arlington, VA. The ride was pleasant, the other people on the bus were well behaved, there was not excessive stopping. Each ride comes with a coupon for 1/4th of a one way trip, which is helpful if you ride often, and I guess makes the trip more like $20. The people organizing the trip wear VAmoose labeled clothing, speak the same language as I do, and can effectively and fairly manage a line. I took the Saturday morning bus from Rosslyn, Virginia to NY, total travel time 6 1/2 hours. It's not the bus' fault, as there were major traffic along the way, but still, it was a long ride. Then on Sunday took the 4 PM bus back, which left at 3:30 since the bus was packed already. Again, battled traffic as soon as we got through Lincoln Tunnel. Took us an hour or more to get pass the accident, then we found out our bus has electrical problems and so NO AIR CONDITION. It's a packed bus with 60 or so passengers and the windows DO NOT OPEN. The driver claims he has no way of contacting the company or another bus, which made no sense to me as they all don't own cell phones? Finally after pleading from numerous passengers he stopped at the Walt Whitman rest area, and I thankfully had friends picking me up from there. I don't even care about the $25, no amount of money saved from riding the bus is worth my mental and physical well being. read more

OK, I love Vamoose because it's the only bus that drops off in Bethesda. When one lives in Gaithersburg, not having to tack on another 45 minute subway ride from DC to Shady Grove is a huge bonus. PLUS the Vamoose Bethesda drop off is right by a public parking lot. YES! I had reserved 2:30 seats from NYC to Bethesda, because I was anticipating our 2nd-to-the-last-food-run-before-leaving-the-city stop at Katz's to take longer. But we gorged and waddled out by 12:45, so we were at the bus stop 1:15. When we told the guys that we were on the 2:30 bus, they looked at our greasy bloated faces on the verge of food coma, and offered us an opportunity to hop on the upcoming 1:30 bus! WOOHOO! It gave my husband JUST enough time to run across the street to the halal food cart to grab 2 more gyros for the road. Heh. We're such fatties. Love love love the Vamoose. read more

Tickets to NYC are $30 a piece, but you get a free trip for every 4 one-way trips you take, so really they're $24 each way...which is more expensive than the Boltbus tickets I can usually get, but cheaper than Megabus (I think I just suck at finding Megabus tickets) The buses are clean, operators on the whole are really nice, and I love that I don't need to have a ticket. plugs at every seat, seats are comfy, I've always gotten in on time, and passengers on my bus have usually been really nice...not much to dislike about Vamoose. I actually like that they depart from Bethesda. It's closer to my boyfriend's work anyhow, and I work on the red line, so getting to Bethesda's not a huge deal--and it saves quite a bit of time, in terms of traffic (compared to leaving from union station or downtown DC on any other bus line) read more

Great service to and from New York and DC (Bethesda and Rosslyn) for a bargain. Buses are clean with neat bathrooms, stocked toilet paper and hand sanitizer. I have taken over 10 trips and sometimes there are stops in the middle of the trip, but most are nonstop. On average a trip takes 4.5 to 6 hours depending on traffic. Departing and arriving in New York can take up to an hour or more at the Lincoln tunnel. Not Vamoose's fault. Another downside is that Wi-fi does not work efficiently. When it does, it runs at speeds around 28.8kbps- loading a webpage takes literally minutes. If you need reliable quick internet, be sure to have cellular data connection or tether. Note some areas are patchy with signal especially north of Baltimore. read more

I've used Vamoose probably about 12 times now and overall I would say they do a great job. I typically take the VA to NYC route which can range anywhere from 4 hours 15 minutes up to 6 hours if you hit traffic. They have a rewards program too. I believe for something like every 4 rides, you get one free. Checking in and loading on is also smooth and organized. They have their operation down. Recently, they had a guest driver, Mike. This guy was an absolute class act. He made the trip fun, safe and was able to handle all the requests that passengers threw at him. Out of all the times I've used Vamoose, he is by far the best driver I've ever experienced. One thing I would add is many of the other bus lines that compete for this route offer free bottles of water for the trip, that may be a nice option for Vamoose to consider moving forward. read more

If you're looking to travel between Washington, DC and New York City and the train is too rich for your blood, the Vamoose Bus may be the best alternative. The buses are clean (even the on-board bathrooms) and I found the staff to be courteous and efficient. The bus left promptly at the scheduled time for New York and left a little early on the way back! My only gripe is that while they advertise wi-fi and electrical outlets on every bus, said outlets were not working on the trip up to New York. My advice: don't assume that the outlets will work. Come to find out that the bus with the nice seats and wifi is known as the gold bus. Eventually, once it's available for booking will cost 50 dollars opposed to the 30 for regular price I hear. As nice as the bus is, prob not worth it. Review of the other buses though, most do not have wifi or outlets from my experience. Bus is clean for the most part and reliable, I've never had a problem with the bus stopping for gas or feeling like it will break down. considering prices for other buses can be much lower than vamoose, i have to go with a 4 rating. read more

Leaving ON TIME and getting me to Bethesda early - earns Vamoose 4 stars! I booked the 10:30 am bus at 3:00 am on the very same day. I was siced to see that the bus was right in the vicinity of the Loving Hut(see other review). I didn't get online until about 10:15 and there were only about 15 folks in front of me. I ride the Mega Bus OFTEN and Washington Deluxe when I need to hit BK, but I had a groupon for Vamoose so I decided to use it. I was expecting the nice black bus that's so prominently posted on their site, but that was no where to be found. The basic Wash2NY bus rolls up early and we are off at 10:30 am. The bus was basic, clean and not super crowded. I had my own seat, but I made sure to put my stuff in the other as I wanted my own seat. Don't get me wrong, I would've gladly moved my stuff if the need be, but this was NOT the case. The ride was smooth, the driver was nice and the passengers were quite (all except an unnamed dude who felt the need to talk so LOUDLY on his dang cell phone - BLOWER). I want to take the time to publicly acknowledge the owners and staff of Vamoose Bus Service for their outstanding customer service and community support. A year ago today my brother lost his battle with Cancer. During the time my brother was traveling between NYC and DC, the staff at Vamoose exhibited compassion, understanding and support during that very difficult period. My family and I continued to be thankful to Vamoose. We will always be loyal customers because beyond anything else is the small things like this that distinguish one company from another. I'll keep this short. I've used Vamoose for years. My parents live in the DC area and I've used vamoose exclusively, with the exceptions being: its either sold out or not leaving when I needed it to. It's the simply the best way to travel to and from DC. They have been nothing but accommodating and pleasant given the convenience as well as the moderate price tag. All this being said, F' off for raising your prices during the holidays. Stop being greedy, Vamoose. $30 each way, the end. Tripper is cheaper, uses the same busses, and gives out water. read more

I'm writing this review in a Vamoose bus from NY to Maryland. The driver inexplicably decided to pull off to the shoulder of I95 South (can you say health hazard?), citing that he has to stop and wait for a replacement bus since the AC doesn't work. Frankly, I can't help but think this is vindictive, childish behavior. Terrible judgement call at best. Why stop now, 3 hours into the bus ride? Why stop on the side of I95 when there clearly is a rest stop 1/2 mile ahead of us where people can safely get off the bus and get water? For the record, the lady who initially complained about the AC did so at the very beginning, before leaving NY. A few folks called Vamoose headquarters to complain about the situation but were simply told that it was a health hazard to drive without AC (as if being pulled off to the side of I95 wasn't?). If you're looking at Vamoose expecting great service, save yourself the money and stick to the Chinatown buses - at least then, you almost expect the bad service. I also tried the "gold" bus; while it's clearly a step up, I'm not so sure the value is there. read more

I've tried out other NY-VA bus services, and Vamoose is by far the best one yet. First, the employees are so nice and pleasant. The driver keeps you updated with traffic, wifi status, etc. Their seats are roomy, even if you don't use the gold bus, and the driver always gives a friendly reminder for riders to stay on the quieter side which is a nice gesture. The bus is also very clean. I've already ridden about 5 times this bus, and each trip has been extremely efficient. One time, the outlets in the bus weren't working, and I did ask around if other people's outlets were working. I won't take off any stars though, because sometimes unfortunate things happen, but that doesn't change anything about how great Vamoose is! I just recommend getting a portable charger just in case! read more
