I waited barely a minute after I checked in and they were ready for me at the desk. The clerk was kind and quickly moved me along. Overall I was in and out in less than 10 minutes! My wife went to talk to the same lady the next day to see if she could change the time of the appointment and Carmen was rude and said what appointment? I'm not going to work the front that day. So my wife drove all the way to Sacramento to get an original birth certificate at her country's consulate and brought it back and another lady(Mrs Fisher) who assisted her, and told my wife she didn't need the originals, that copies were fine just to add a middle initial to the social security card. Mrs Fisher provided much better service and was nice, not rude at all like Carmen. All the unnecessary time, gas, money and frustration and unnecessary rudeness because of an incompetent lady(Carmen) that does not know her job and gives incorrect information. Incredible. Fire or retire her.

****This consumer experience was had during the COVID19 pandemic.****…read more Important to note: This Social Security Administration federal office is currently open to the public HOWEVER please note, assistance is by appointment only. You can obtain an appointment in a few ways: Call their toll free number or attempt online. I made my appointment for today; Thursday over the phone earlier in the week because I phoned them to discuss a letter I had received from them recently. I learned that I had to present in person in order to conclude my business. Interesting was that the person who answered the call was also the person I met with today. I liked this because I felt more comfortable when meeting her as she was already familiar with my needs. Name changes are currently being processed here and by appointment only. You must present with your actual DMV drivers license and "original" stamped signed and dated by the court "seal" for some services like the name change. I'd phone them to get the actual list before presenting in person for an appointment. There was a line outside the front doors when I arrived but it soon vanished because everyone but one person wanted to see an employee for assistance. Once they were informed that was not the procedure they left. The environment was so peaceful. Security is on-site and I felt way more comfortable seeing and experiencing this as I was thoroughly screened for weapons. Made me feel super safe. Lastly, it can get costly to work on your Social Security paperwork by mail and today I learned they have over-sized postage paid, self addressed manila envelopes for the public available here. Good to see our tax dollars at work.

Looked like my odds were up. After 20-30 mins they called me back! I was so excited ; to find out they had me wait to 'help me' book an appointment. This review is more for entertainment. Have a Laugh with me ??. MAKING YOUR APPOINTMENT ONLINE IS YOUR ONLY OPTION. Modesto is booked out usually WEEKS/months. They told me Stockton is 1-2 DAYS out. & Manteca or Tracy is only a week or so out. best of luck for anyone ever trying to change their name before they gotta renew their license ...

So after a month, I came in yesterday for my appointment and I thought I had all the documents I needed to apply for a replacement Social Security card. But turns out Rafael told me that I needed more verified documents like my child's report card showing the date of her birth and name since I did not have a student ID card. At first, I was a bit irritated because when I made the appointment, the gentleman (who I made the appointment with last time) didn't tell me I needed a specific documents and what I had on hand, he said it would be fine. But thankfully, Rafael was nice enough to explain what I needed and if I come back to him, then he would try to squeeze me in. And I told him, I'm going to go home right now and come back within 20 minutes. When I got back the security officer, Corbin was really chill and friendly. I can tell by his aura that he's a cool dude and I'm glad he's working there because I think he brings happiness in that environment with his vibe. Anyways, Raphaël saw me & signaled me to go to the window. I gave him everything I found that he asked for, and the process went smoothly. I really appreciate him because he turned my irritation into satisfaction. I'm glad I handled business because now I don't have to worry about it. And for those that go stand in line in the morning, very early to get a ticket, you don't have to do that anymore because there's a QR code on the front door where you scan with your phone and your automatic in the queue. All you have to do when they open: you scan the barcode and you get your ticket, real simple and easy. Anyways, this location was chill and the workers were cool. All I gotta say is be nice and appreciative and you'll have a great day doing things you don't want to do, lol.

At that point, I was just two numbers away from being called. I asked the security guard why there weren't signs posted near the kiosks or a notice on the electronic board explaining this beforehand. He said they were short-staffed. I replied that perhaps they should at least advertise that people need to call ahead, instead of wasting the public's time and their staff's time. I then told the clerk I wanted to wait for a manager to discuss the inefficiencies. After another 10 minutes with no response, I left. This office is beyond ridiculous

TLDR: You are required to set up appointments for all visits now…read more After attempting to apply online (which didn't work) I happened to be in the area for the DMV so I figured I'd walk over as it's not stated anywhere online that you must have an appointment. When you get there the loud speaker announcement states they have appointments available within 5 days. I almost laughed because it's wildly inaccurate. I'd booked an appointment a few days before for the first one available - almost 3 weeks out. Even if you go by business days, it's not close to being accurate. Currently they'll let you sign in, get a number, wait for 30 minutes, then call your number, and at your window you'll be told to make an appointment and they'll refuse to help you further. It's absolutely bonkers and I've never seen anything like it. After I was told I could wait an additional 3-4 hours for the possibility of speaking with someone, I asked if like the DMV they could text me when someone can speak with me. No. No, they don't do that either. I left. I will say I ended up googling and found a great thread that talked about the different processes people have used to get into their non-working SSA accounts. I tried a few of them and was finally able to log in via IDme on an incognito window so I could download a statement of my account, which solved about half of what I needed. Overall, it was a pretty awful and extremely inefficient experience all around. Definitely would not recommend.
