Well it would appear that I have some issues with some small veins and blood flow around my ankles and was told that that needed to wear some compression hose for the next 4 months as a way to avoid a surgical outcome for now. My doctor (Dr. Z) strongly recommended Van Driel's out of all the possible (and closer) locations I could have gone to. This definitely was not the closest location, but I am so glad I made the trip. Also another important factor was that Van Driel's does Saturday appointments, so that was wonderful as I didn't have to worry about leaving work early to get there or deal with rush hour traffic. This was new territory for me as I didn't even know you needed a prescription or had to get measured/fitted for compression stockings, so this was a very informative visit for me. Claudia was absolutely wonderful as was the second woman (didn't get a name) who took my information upon arrival. After taking my measurements, Claudia explained to me the way the compression stockings worked, how they were designed and fitted and how to put them on/take them off. I had no idea it was that involved. Claudia explained the process for putting the stockings on properly as well as covered what not to do when putting them on, which is just as important it would seem. After the explanation, she went through step by step on putting then stocking on, then had me do it so she could watch my technique, while giving me tips and pointers during my attempt to put one on. She went through the process again on how to remove the stocking as well as the proper height to pull it up on the leg. She also discussed options with me as to what type I could get (toes covered or toes out). Claudia also covered my options as far as insurance goes in covering the purchases, so that was helpful. I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of look and feel for the stockings, but they were not as tight as I thought they would be and looked fine. COVID-wise, both Claudia and the other woman were wearing masks (as was I) and there was hand sanitizer available. While I was being fitted, Claudia had clean disposable pads on the floor as well as on the angled platform where my foot was place for the fitting of the stocking. While being fitted, Claudia mentioned that she knew my doctor very well as he had recommended many a patient to her location. I laughed because although Dr. Z said I could go to any of the locations on his the list he provided, he made a point of circling Van Driel's on the paper in a bold black circle. She mentioned that Dr. Z said many years ago that he trusted Van Driel's for fittings because it meant he wouldn't have to check the fitting later. Claudia mentioned that most doctor's most likely wouldn't check the fitting once you purchase the compression stockings, but knowing Dr. Z, he would most definitely do that if he didn't have complete trust in the vendor I had purchased them from. That speaks volumes for me. So if you or a loved one needs to purchase compression stockings, I would recommend this place highly. I also noticed that they offer other compression equipment for wrists, legs, etc., so it looks like one stop shopping for all of your compression needs. read more

Took my mom here for a fitting for new compression stockings. From the moment we walked in we were treated so warmly. Our fitter, Beth, wasn't sure the order we brought in was the right item for my mom so she asked Claudia the owner to speak with us. Claudia was wonderful with my mom. She explained why traditional compression stockings might not work for her and she suggested a new item they were using. She helped Mom try it on and explained what needed to be done to procure them. I've been dealing with edema after foot surgery which has prevented closure of the wounds. My doctor recommended Van Driel's as the best compression garment fitters in the area. So even though they do not take my particular insurance, I chose to use them. My appointment went very well. The shop has all of the suggested covid-19 prevention policies in place. My fitter worked with me to try several options before we found one that would work out best for me. read more

My doctor's office recommended that I go to Van Driel's to be fitted for compression stockings. The women on the phone when I made the appointment was rude, saying she had never heard of my insurance. She reluctantly gave me an appointment when I said I would pay out of pocket. That should have told me to avoid the place, but I figured I needed the compression stockings as I had been in pain for some time. Things got worse at my appointment with my fitter, Beth. First she started asking more questions about my insurance, "I've never heard of that, what kind of insurance is it?" I smiled and didn't answer. Eventually she must have felt that a bracelet I was wearing was in the way because she took it off of me and tossed it ON THE FLOOR. I don't wear much jewelry, so that piece is meaningful to me. I would've taken it off if asked and put it in my purse or pocket but wasn't given the chance. After the appointment she admitted that she was concerned about me handling the merchandise, since I "might've put a hole in it." I'm still looking for a good YouTube video to help me with my stockings. read more

Brought a family member here to be fitting for compression stockings, and this place is fantastic. Really knowledgeable, and they really take the time to not only fit the stockings, but to show you the easiest way to get them on and off, and then watch while you practice. This relative was very nervous about the stockings because she'd had a bad experience with them in the past, but now she feels very comfortable. If you need compression stockings, definitely come here rather than going to a drugstore. The drugstore may be a less expensive alternative, but this will ensure that you can actually use the stockings properly. read more

A few weeks ago I took my dad to get fitted for compression socks, and had the pleasure of meeting the nicest woman on the planet: Irmi was so kind to us! My dad is very grumpy and I pretty much dragged him to the fitting appointment. Irmi was patient, thorough and insanely, over the top gentle and polite. Had to make an appointment for custom hose & was handled very well. They were very accommodating because my Dad was very unhappy that he had to start wearing compression hose. Claudia took the time to help him put them on himself with special gloves & heel pad. Trying to keep my Dad independent even though he might not like it! I'm glad that we went here because how can you get this kind of help trying to buy something on the internet? You simply can't. Claudia and the staff at Van Driel's go out of their way to fit compression garments. We went through several fittings and finally ordered a custom made sleeve and glove. I am extremely pleased with the service. You need to make an appointment for measuring and fitting but can get in within a day or two. Van Driel's will submit claims to some insurance plans. My Doctor said I could go anywhere I wanted to get the compression stockings, however, they get great reviews from people going to Van Driel's. It was close to work, so I figured why not. The other place I went to didn't have anything in stock. I walked in and was greeted warmly. There were packages of stockings everywhere. I was confident that I would be walking out with my stockings. They spent 20 minutes showing me how to put on and take off the stockings. They gave me techniques and shared their expertise. I was fitted there today for compression stockings. I thought it was an inconvenience to have to make an appointment, but it was well worth the travel and inconvenience. Irma was respectful and warm and I left feeling like I was doing something positive for my vein health. Claudia and Van Driels are the BEST!!!! As a lymphodema patient I was referred to them my by doctor. Thought it would be inconvenient but it's worth the effort of going. They fit garments with exceptional percision. I have a custom sleeve which in the past took many...many fittings to get to fitted correctly. They get them right....they got them fast. Every fitting I get the same results (2-3 a year) and the added bonus they are an approved BCBS provider so it's in network. read more

Van Driel specializes in compression garments and they have the knowledge to do an expert evaluation and fitting for lymphedema patients. Claudia was able to work with me even though Van Driel is not in the Aetna network. She was able to fit me for a stock and a custom made compression garment and worked with a provider out of state to fill my order. Believe me it's worth the trip to seek out Van Driel's if you need compression hose. Nobody in Chicagoland provides this level of expertise and can work with out of state providers that are in your insurance network. read more
