Overpriced and sloppy. We had them move a house's worth of stuff into storage and then deliver it to two different locations. Many boxes clearly marked fragile arrived crushed and even partly opened. needless to say some of the contents were shattered. They not only mixed up the delivery of many items, they delivered things that belonged to someone else entirely. I will say they were very good about getting large items in and out through very tight spaces, and disassembling/assembling things as needed, but boy did we pay for it. Very expensive. And the icing on that cake was the foreman demanding a 20% tip. Would not use them again. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Van Gogh movers. They are efficient, fairly priced, careful, respectful and an absolute joy to work with. They not only moved our New York City home of 24 years to our new apartment flawlessly, they also sent a few random pieces of furniture to my daughter in chicago and reassembled the dining table in her apartment with complete expertise. I am using them again to move some art from Florida to chicago because I now only trust them with all my cherished pieces. Jimmy the owner is responsive and wonderful. The first time they moved us--back in September 2019--foreman John and his intrepid crew defied freakin' geometry by negotiating our beastly couch around the tightest of stairwell turns--all without a scratch! Three years later, they repeated the feat (albeit in the opposite direction), along with schlepping a full truck's worth of stuff that now lounges, safely and snugly, in our new Red Hook home. Hello! I'm just getting back online after the move and wanted to write a little something about our experience with Van Gogh. The team arrived on time (actually a little earlier) and I was greeted by John and Pablo. We did a quick walk-through so he knew what he was dealing with. After a few minutes the guys jumped into action and I was amazed at how fast things were moving. They were like a well oiled machine! These guess treated my stuff like it was there own. I was a little stressed and so was my fiancee', but the the guys were cracking jokes throughout the day and it more or less made the day go even easier. Once they were done, we ran through the house to make sure everything everything was moved out. The other guys cleaned up all garbage that was left behind. Unfortunately not everything fit in the truck, so John had the guys move everything remaining into the back yard. There was a chance of rain, so they tarped and wrapped everything for the day so they can return the next day. Looking at how they wrapped it, I think a typhoon could have come through and no damage! :) The next morning the team arrived again on time and were ready for action! John and Pablo did a walk-through and once they were done, everyone sprung into action. I couldn't believe the how fast everyone was moving. Again with the same joking attitude as they moved along which I think was the KEY! The guys followed my labeling to a tee and asked questions if there was anything out of place. They put the furniture where it needed to go and even moved it a couple times if needed. Once the truck was emptied, they went back to the house to pickup what was left behind and came back to unload. Once they were completely done John and I squared up $$ and and the guys cleaned up. In the end the price was a little less thank quoted. All of the guys were AWESOME to work with!!!! They were kind, polite and courteous throughout. My wife and I had to move out of our Manhattan apartment into storage in the middle of COVID and we were thrilled to have used Van Gogh Movers. Pre-Moving: We shopped around and Van Gogh's price was competitive. They weren't the cheapest but we were happy that we paid a little extra for experienced movers. In addition, Van Gogh was the only company that was willing to send someone to our apartment for an in-person estimate during COVID. Ron made time to come at 7:00pm on a weekend (which is the only time that worked for us) and facetimed us while he was in our apartment since we were in Florida at that time. Ron was also super helpful behind the scenes during the entire process. Moving Day: The crew showed up and they were very professional and fun to hang out with while the move was going on. John (the foreman) was very experienced and has been working with Van Gogh for over eight years. His team packed everything up carefully and were receptive to any questions or comments that I had. Overall the process was smooth and assuming that I get everything back from their storage with no issues I will definitely use them again. read more

I used Van Gogh a few months back to move my home a few blocks in Sunset Park. They seemed very experienced and assured me that all my furniture would be handled with care by seasoned members of their team. Unfortunately, the guys they sent were pretty careless and didn't use much common sense. I asked them to be very careful with a custom made murphy bed but only one guy was assigned to hold it in place when I warned them two were necessary. They assured me they had everything handled but seconds later I heard a huge crash because the piece tipped over. At the end, I tipped the guys 10% because I wasn't pleased (less than the 15-20% they said was customary) and they came back to the house to return it, saying it really wasn't enough. Very rude and a bit intimidating. I would not recommend them. read more

Moving sucks. Moving in NYC sucks even more, especially when you're making the transition from renting to owning and just about everything that can go wrong does go wrong. In the weeks leading up to our move date, we had issues with the developer, issues with painters and roofers and a contractor hired to do a number of different things we were assured would be completed with plenty of time to spare. None of this happened, and when Van Gogh arrived to get us from Greenpoint to Bed-Stuy, our nerves were undoubtedly frayed. Thankfully, the guys at Van Gogh helped us feel relaxed for the first time in weeks. They were professional and courteous, and they worked like a well-oiled machine. We'd done a lot of packing of our own early on, and what we hadn't done they handled perfectly. Our landlady, a notoriously grumpy woman, was so impressed with our movers' professionalism and demeanor, that she asked for a stack of business cards to hand out to her other tenants for future moves. It's obviously crucial that movers get your stuff from Point A to Point B in one piece, taking care of your valuables and invaluables as though they understand why you love your plastic 1970's Batman bust bank as much as you do: Van Gogh did that beautifully, and much more. But they also handled one of the intangibles which hadn't even occurred to us until we saw them in action during our move: They helped us relax. They helped us, finally - mercifully - feel like everything was going to work out okay. And when you're in the eye of a shitstorm like we'd been up to that point, it means an awful lot. It began when Jimmy and one of his cohorts came to our old place two weeks before the move to check it out. Before then, we felt like we needed to do more, like it couldn't possibly be anything but a disaster, like our sofa would never get back through the front door. WOW!!!! Let me just start by saying WOW!!!! I cant begin to tell you how nervous I was to move my family of 4 and my whole life from San Diego to New York City... Seemingly impossible to do it with simplicity. Well Van Gogh was AMAZING!!! Starting with being so on top of their quotes, the communication with James (Jimmy) couldnt have been better, emailing/texting/calling, you name it, he was AWESOME! Then to top it off he made my move happen, I gave him oh about 3 days notice to get the movers to come to my house and pack my house and get it on the way to NYC. So that Wednesday the movers were scheduled to arrive at 9 am, they buzzed me at 8:55 and were outside my door. They, specifically Ofer and his guy Gabe, 2 people.... well they killed it. They moved, wrapped and packed everything as tightly and best that they could. They were AMAZING! Next thought was for sure something is not going to make it or definitely not across country in time. EVERYONE has horror stories about moving anywhere let alone across our great country. Ofer gave me his cell and told me his route and said oh yeah I will be there on the morning of your scheduled delivery. I only texted him and Jimmy about 85 times to confirm because I was travelling out without my family to have the delivery and set up without my two little ones running around in circles of them. Friday am (granted we didnt come for a week and a half) but they were there. Not only there but Ofer was there around 6 AM to make sure they they could park the truck (giant truck) right in front of my door in Tribeca!!! UNHEARD OF!!! AGAIN AMAZING!!! The guys showed up with the truck from Brooklyn and there were three men this time plus Ofer. Ofer to guard the truck and the three BEST MOVERS EVER!!! Johnny, Franky, and Winston (even with his tooth ache) were all AWESOME!! We loved them and they were so nice and patient and funny. We didnt want them to leave! :) They were all amazing and I have to say if we move back to Cali... they are who I am using and would recommend to anyone and everyone!!! WE LOVE THEM!!! OH AND ALSO.. I used Van Gogh Movers about a month ago. James showed up prior to the move to give me an estimate. He was great! We did a total walk through of my 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath duplex apartment. We determined what they would pack and move, what was not going, and what I would pack and move to my storage space. His estimate was reasonable and about what I thought it would be. We agreed that they movers would come the day before at 9am and pack. They showed up on time and were ALL great at packing, fast and friendly. The next day (the move) they showed up on time again and were amazingly fast at filling up the truck with all my belongings. We then went to my new apartment where they unloaded the truck so Superman fast. Did I mention they also had a full flight of stairs to climb? Yes they did and all I had to do was stand there and point to where the boxes were going. Both crews were pleasant, friendly, and had a sense of humor that I really needed at times. I had to check to be sure this was the same company that the previous reviewers who gave such bad reviews had used to do their move. My experience was totally different and really A # 1. I used Van Gogh for a full house move last fall and then again recently to move a huge armoire that I sold on Craig's List. Both times I found them professional, knowledgeable and willing to do the little extra. On the full house move, Jimmy, one of the owners, talked to me on the phone and then came out to my apartment to do an estimate. Even though it was only a short distance move, we have some nice antiques, mirrors and "fragile" things that required special care. He went over everything down to how they would pack our 4 crystal chandeliers in a way so that we did not have to remove all the glass bobbles. Very thorough and detailed. Gave us a comfort level that 2 companies that were a bit cheaper did not. Our move out building had a lot of restrictions on times, service elevator use, etc. Van Gogh handled all that with them and on moving day had their crew leader meet with us before anything was started -- just to go over how everything would work. A nice touch and definitely calming . Basically, it was just for us to get out of the way and let these guys do what they do. On the other end, things went just as smoothly and about all we had to do was watch. When it was all done I went out and got Pizza and treated the crew and ourselves for a job well done. Now fast forward a few months. Recently I had sold a large very heavy armoire on Craigslist, and with the buyer in my apartment, I called Van Gogh and again talked to Jimmy (really nice guy BTW) . We worked out a price over the phone and he said that it would need to be a flexible time for just 1 piece which was fine. We were thinking 1 or 2 weeks... Within 2 hours he called and said he had a truck that had finished early and could do the move. After texting the buyer and working out the details, they picked up the armoire and delivered it to the buyers that same afternoon. Now how good was that? Moving is stressful and quite frankly a pain. The Van Gogh people have their stuff together and know what they are doing. If we ever move again, we will use them. read more

Wonderful movers! I hired these guys super last minute (less than 24 hrs before a large move) and they showed up with bells on. Dean, Justin & Phil arrived promptly and with such a great sense of humor that it was impossible not to laugh the entire way through the four hour process. With each move I make, I always think I am a moving pro by now, yet always end up frantic the minute the movers arrive, attempting to squeeze tons of left over junk into boxes. The guys eased my mind a bit on this and gave an extra box here and there and assured me nothing would be left behind. Not to mention they get tons of extra points for dealing with my insanely uptight landlord who insists you wipe your feet each time you walk in our building. Thank you for that, guys. The only reason I knock a star off is because Cookie quoted me $490 on the phone and job actually cost $630. At the beginning of the job, Dean had told me he wouldn't charge me more than I was quoted, but I didn't make fuss simply because these guys truly put in the extra work and time. This move also took a bit longer than expected. Most of my moves clock in around 2 1/2, 3 hrs. W Van Gogh, the process took 4 hours. In the end, I think sacrificing a couple hundred dollars and an extra hour balanced out w the fact that I actually enjoyed speaking and hanging with my movers. I will certainly hire these guys again. Having used them approximately ten years ago and they were fantastic, I decided to used them for a move from Brooklyn to Lancaster, Pa. I couldn't ask for a better company. I generally don't write reviews but am finding Yelp quite useful. Recent move. Large move upstate. Fully loaded large truck. Movers were pleasant worked hard. They packed and moved. That's the good part. The bad news - 1) the quote was 800 dollars off. Surprise. I was told by the foreman that it was the travel time. Well that's the one thing that they should be able to know ahead of time When I called and spoke to someone later I was told this in fact wasn't the case 2) common sense - I have many broken times. Including pictures in glass frames that were slid down the side of wardrobe boxes. Several. Also my expensive turntable and receiver. My pride and joy. I even asked them to be careful. They never unhooked the RCA cords between the turntable and the receiver before packing. So the ends broke off in the receiver. Wow not so bright Some other more normal occurrences like losing s chair legg which I guess happens Just now filling out the claim form. Of course 30 cents a pound. Think I'll have anything covered. Not likely. I still tipped the guys but reduced it as I had to cover the 800 dollar overage It is a shame with a little better customer service maybe like meeting halfway on such a large missed estimation this could have left as a good experience. In early 2018 my family and I hired Van Gogh movers to move from a single family home (where we lived for 20+ years) to a nearby townhouse. This included dropping off several furniture items and boxes at two different storage locations. As you can imagine, a move of this size and complexity requires precision and well experienced movers. After meeting with several potential movers we elected to hire Van Gogh. While on the more expensive side, we were impressed that the owner, Jimmy, estimated the move to take only nine to ten hours , which included the two stops to storage after the initial stop at our townhouse to unload the truck and continue on to the two storage locations. Needless to say, based on my 1 star rating, we experienced several issues with Van Gogh. However, the most disappointing of which was 1) Van Gogh did not honor (or even come close) to the timeline and price outlined in their quote and 2) the number of items that went missing. Day 1 begin at 9am and did not end until 2am. At 17 hours on the first day we were already well beyond the estimated hours Jimmy quoted it would be. The second day begin at 10am and ended at approximately 4pm, a total of approximately fourteen hours over the originally estimated hours he quoted. The final bill equated to well beyond the original quote . When the estimate was initially calculated, it factored in having Van Gogh pack up the clothing hanging in our closets as they have re-usable wardrobe boxes available. Everything that I packed before the movers arrived (pots, pans, dishes etc.) arrived to our destination. However, the closet items that were packed by the movers (including the contents of our dressers which Jimmy initially misinformed us they did not need to be emptied), did not all arrive to their final destinations. Interestingly, the missing items include some of my more expensive and meaningful items: a Burberry jacket,a new BCBG dress, two new Lucky Brand items, a new pair of 3X1 jeans a brand new AG denim skirt and a Louis Vuitton wallet (just to mention a few). When I called to tell Jimmy about the missing items his response was "they must be somewhere," and he offered to have some of the movers come and help me look in one of the storage units. To their credit, they did assist with this. However, not surprisingly, the items were not there. From there, he offered to set up another date/time to help us search the second storage unit. Over the last several weeks I have left four messages with his office however I have not heard back from him. While I'm fairly confident I will never recover the items, its very disappointing that he is not following through on his offer. In summary, I will not be using Van Gogh movers again and I would never recommend them to anyone else unless you are looking to be disrespected, have valuables lost and get ripped off. I used Van Gogh movers back in August. The person who gave me the estimate over the phone was extremely nice. His name was Jimmy. When they came to do the move, the movers were very nice, but I noticed they were moving pretty fast and were not gentle with the furniture. When we got to my new apartment, they tipped over a buffet and the sliding doors came off the track. They told me not to worry, that they were a responsible company and they will fix it. I believed them, paid them and tip them. I called the person I spoke first, the nice guy call Jimmy, about 15 times. He always polite but he always had an excuse, they were too busy, it was the worst time of the year, etc. etc. Finally he told me they'd come the next day. GO WITH VAN GOGH! Moving is hard enough; moving after almost 30 years during COVID even harder. But not if you go with Van Gogh. They had moved me into my apartment and they handle my storage as well. Ron came to do an estimate and shortly after, Pablo and crew dropped off boxes, tape and bubble wrap and offered more packing tips. Cookie held my hand throughout the process, handling every detail professionally and dealing with my last-minute questions and concerns with great compassion and reassurance. Things could not have gone more smoothly. John, Pablo, Dale and Alex were as quick, thorough, professional and kind as could be. Everyone took careful COVID precautions. I packed what I could myself and left the most fragile items, all the furniture, and odd size items for them. They handled each piece as if it were their own. While I don't like to admit it, I was not as ready for their arrival as I would have liked. John instantly created a plan and a path around me so I could finish dealing with the boxes I had left in the middle of the living room. I had done an estimate with a Pod service but it would have been more expensive with none of the personal, caring and attentive service Van Gogh offers. Excellent movers. Great, friendly staff both on the moving crew and the office. The moving staff worked very hard. The only minor problem was we had stuff going to three separate locations with tags on things to tell them where to deliver and a few boxes got marked incorrectly and delivered to the wrong location. Maybe we should have watched them more closely as they packed up the old house and marked boxes for delivery location. We have used them before and will use them again. read more

Sorry I did not check with my neighbor Sasha before using these movers; they broke many of her possessions, then on Day One altered hours on my moving day to increase payment. I was their storage customer for over 3 years but they moved my stuff from one warehouse to another without advising me of this, and lost over 10 percent of items, including very large hard to miss garden pots, stuffed with kitchen items, red cooler stuffed with wine glasses, 4 foot long wrought iron hanging garden baskets, luggage cart, wooden strats for bed, etc. Cleverly they insisted on a disclaimer for lost items else they would not release my goods to my international packers. read more

Van Gough Movers helped me and my roommate move from our apartment in Arlington, VA to Manhattan and they did a great job! John and his crew were very professional, efficient and careful. They arrived at our apartment in Virginia and I was worried that they would have trouble finding the loading dock and freight elevator, but they were very self sufficient and figured out everything without needing my help - I didn't have to lift a finger or worry about anything which was such a relief! Same thing in New York - they arrived on time to move everything in and I did not have to worry about a thing! Can't imagine trying to have moved without them. Don't use this company. Not only did they ruin our one of a kind, mid-century modern bedroom set but items also disappeared. They said insurance only covered a paltry amount. When I tried to get even that amount back, they became unresponsive. I had friends who had used them too & they were overcharged tremendously. Poor. Beware. Once Van Gogh thinks the job is 'done', they're done - and don't care about the state they leave you in. Before the move, it was all kittens and lollipops but once things went wrong, Van Gogh left us without even a smack on the butt. So good luck if you use them. We won't, ever again. Below is an abridged version of a letter we wrote to Van Gogh a few days after the move. (Examples of poor work and damage to valuable property excised, no need to mention one of the movers told me he was hung over; this is Van Gogh lite.) I asked that it be forwarded to a supervisor and company head. If it was, it was ignored. And that's a pretty fitting indicator of how much they seem to care. Beware. I write this letter to express my dissatisfaction with the services provided by Van Gogh on July 24, 2019. Van Gogh was contracted to move our possessions between two locations in Brooklyn, NY. The team of four movers packed, transported the packed items to their truck ... and brought boxes and furniture into the destination apartment. There was some damage (fresh paint was badly scraped in an attempt to put a desk in an office; the response from the foreman was a shrug) and during unpacking it became clear that many dozens of books were missing. I told Cookie [at Van Gogh] the next day that at least one box (a milk crate) was missing. One of the movers, Dale, told her he clearly remembered putting it [the missing milk crate] on the moving truck and delivering it to the new apartment. I told her no milk crate was received but my protestations proved futile. My wife returned to the old apartment and found that Van Gogh failed to take three(!) large crates of books, including the one milk crate. They just left them behind. I called Cookie immediately to tell her that the missing box-es(!) had been located and indeed the milk crate had not been put onto the truck and delivered (as Dale warranted). The response was "Thanks for letting me know" and the phone put down. We have received no apology, no acknowledgment that Van Gogh failed to complete the contracted agreement and no attempt or offer to help arrange the delivery of the approximate 100 pounds of books Van Gogh neglected to move. Find someone else to move your items, someone who cares, someone not hung over, someone who takes everything and won't scratch your walls and won't drop your vinyl records on the ground. read more

They were so personable and made certain to take very special care of all of our furniture and belongings. I gave them a detailed list of what I needed moved for my friend who moved out of state and we worked out a price through email. They were on time, efficient, and very professional. This company employs a bunch of thieves. During my move, 2 ipods and my ipad were both stolen by the movers. All 3 of the devices were in my suitcase, which I intentionally wanted to keep in my apartment until the end of the move. When I was in another room, one of the movers brought the suitcase out to the truck and must have searched it and taken my Apple electronics. Had I known I was being looted by these moving employees, I certainly never would have tipped them at the end of the move (I feel like a sucker) and would have called the police. I used Van Gogh movers over the 4th of July weekend 2016 to do an intense move from a third floor walk up in a historical home with a fussy landlord (was watching the movers like a hawk to document any damage) to another third floor walk up in a 3 family home a short distance away. There were 2 bosses, John and Phil, with Watson and one other can't remember maybe Lance? I was very nervous about getting my considerable amount of furniture, one very heavy piece, many wardrobe boxes and very large flat screen TV down 3 flights of stairs and up three in the new place that was a little narrower than where I was moving out.. I had already packed about 20 boxes but their was loose stuff that they were great about putting into a large bin and also had extra boxes and tape to put all the "MISC" . They marked all the boxes and wrapped all the furniture with tape. It took them longer than we were all anticipating to get me out of that apartment but they just kept working very steady, carefully and with good humor which really helped me because I was a bit of a wreck... Then when we got to the new apartment about 5 hours later then they had to drag all the stuff up 3 flights of narrow stairway. They put my bed back together and were careful to put the boxes where they were marked. This was Herculean task that they all were still working steady and kept in a good mood after another 2 or 3 hours and even had to figure out some difficult engineering to get a tall wood closet to clear the stairwell up to the third floor. They were really nice and kept reassuring me through out the whole moving ordeal. I got my full damage deposit back because they didn't cause any damage getting me out-even the fuss button landlord commented on how skilled and polite they were! Yes, the move came in over the estimate but I honestly expected that because I wasn't completely packed and it was very strenuous with the amount of stairs and tricky stairwells getting out of the old place into the new place. I invited them to stay for a cold beverage as we were settling the bill and they were great guys to hangout with too! I can vouch for Van Gogh (Cookie, the lady in the office, was super helpful too) but if you have a difficult move (and most are in NYC) see if you can get John and Phil as your foremen , you can move in NYC without having a nervous breakdown if you have them managing your move xoxo ! read more

I should have written this review 2 years ago when Van Gogh Movers moved me from one apartment to another. I apologize to people who might have used them in the past 2 years because I did not know how to put up a review on Yelp and thereby might have discouraged you from using them. When James came to give me an estimate, he assured me that his team could pack and move me in 1 day. Unfortunately I believed him. We had a time frame as my new apartment said all moves had to be completed by 4:30 PM. The day started out badly as they were late. I knew I made a mistake using them when a candlestick was broken while they were wrapping it. They ran out of packing material and my husband had to search the building for newspaper to pack the rest of my fragile items. It was raining when we arrived at the new building and they allowed the furniture to sit outside getting soaked. They put my dining room chairs and coffee table into boxes without quilts and damaged the wood. Every piece was badly scratch or broken. Fortunately I had my own insurance. The cost for restoring the damaged pieces was more than $4000. DO NOT USE THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. read more

This is a very difficult review to write. Let me start off by saying the person who came to take an inventory to prepare the estimate was amazing. He was also on the crew. Four men showed up on moving day. They were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Professional, careful, and did a great job. They worked very hard. This was by far the least stressful move of my life. These guys were incredible. When they arrived, the foreman of the crew went over my prearrangement. There was a guarantee not to exceed as I negotiated, even if the job ran long. That gave me piece of mind. Around 5 hours into the move, the foreman informed me that we would reach the maximum. I was comfortable with that. It didn't matter as I had a guarantee not to exceed price and he confirmed that guaranteed not to exceed price with me again. I had such a great experience I decided to tip the guys 20% rather than the customary 15% for a move. This came out to $100.00 a man. The job ended up being 11 hours. A long but easy day. Everything, including some crappy IKEA furniture made it in perfect shape. The problem came at the end. The foreman told me he had to call the office to run the credit card for the agreed on amount, but once he reached the owner, Jimmy, my stress free move turned into a nightmare. Jimmy informed him that the job took longer than he expected and insisted on charging me hourly, plus materials. This was truly "Bait and Switch". I couldn't believe it. I want you all to know this problem had nothing to do with the crew. Eventually Jimmy came around after I argued with him for 45 minutes and said he would "keep his promise". Are you kidding me? So he admitted he had made a promise and was willing to break it. Remember I had a contract and would have taken legal action. Bottom line, this is a 20+ year old company. New owner, Jimmy, about 1.5 years ago. He is going to kill this company with a great reputation. He asked if I would recommend. I said yes. This was based on the first 11 hours. The last 45 minutes was uncalled for and unprofessional. He said I added 2 pieces and took away 1 large piece. He is right. The 2 pieces I added were small and took maybe 10 to 15 minutes. The piece I took away was custom furniture. It would have taken him 3 man hours to dismantle it. I know this because the furniture maker dismantled it and moved it and it took them that long. They were familiar with the piece since they built it. So.... all I can say is if you use these guys... make sure you have a guaranteed price in writing. Also make sure that you have them do an estimate before the move. Don't throw any surprises there way. I am sure if the move took the amount of time they thought, then none of this would have happened. Whose fault is that? I am not the professional mover, they are. That's why they do estimates. AVOID THESE MOVERS AT ALL COST!! THEY ARE UNPROFESSIONAL AND SLOPPY IN THE CARE OF YOUR POSSISIONS AND WILL LIKELY CAUSE DAMAGE!!! THE OFFICE STAFF IS RUDE AND DOESN'T FOLLOW THROUGH AND THEY DO NOT SHOW UP FOR SCHEDUED APPOINTMENT TIMES Without a doubt, the WORST moving company experience I have EVER had!!! I had been storing the contents of my home in their storage facility since late July 2015 after I sold my apartment on the UES. When I finally closed on my new place and was ready to move in, on Jan 27, 2016, all went to hell, First, they showed up at 945 AM even though they knew ahead of time they could only have exclusive use of the freight elevator until 12PM; because they were late, someone else had parked in the closest spot, so they waited another 25 minutes for those people to leave. As soon as they came to the apartment, Joey (the foreman?) told me he had bad news - a custom made 4' by 8' beveled mirror had fallen on the truck and had broken- he said not to worry, they would take it back to Brooklyn and get it fixed immediately. Then, as they began bringing in & unwrapping my stuff, I started noticing damage: a cast stone table base was broken in 4 places (chunks as big as a golf ball), an antique lacquered cabinet had chips in the door, a gold leaf bar had the leaf scraped off EVERY CORNER (it had been wrapped only in plastic, no packing blanket or box), the frame mahogany frame to the custom mirror was disassembled into 4 pieces (it was handmade, and fastened together from the carpenter, it was NOT intended to be disassembled - Joey told me they had taken it apart to move it in July - and just forgot to tell me) and several boxes were smashed in on the corners or tops - a dozen or so pieces of Waterford crystal broken. Additionally, an antique Duncan Phyfe card table was not even delivered (the movers confirmed they forgot to load it on the truck). As soon as I got a sense of what had been damaged or destroyed, I called the office (before I agreed to pay) to ask for a written (via email) that Van Gogh would make repairs or replacements as necessary. When I called, COOKIE, the horrible receptionist, answered and as I told her what had happened she started ranting that my things already had the damage I was reporting, and that she wouldn't do anything until the bill was paid!!! I was FLOORED - not only did she lack any empathy whatsoever for the fact that I was already stressed to be moving, and the damage to my possessions was just compounding that, but that she had the nerve to be GUESSING that my things were destroyed when I moved them originally!!! I was so furious, I had to hang up - and Joey (the foreman) called her back and spoke to her in private. After more than 90 minutes, I got a call from JIMMY (James Betta, the owner), and he agreed to send me an email accepting responsibility for the repair or replacement of the damaged or destroyed items. Once I had that email, I paid the bill in full (and tipped) and waited to hear from Betta (the owner) to schedule repairs. On 01/28/16, I emailed to ask when the missing table would be delivered, and was promised it would come that day between 4-5PM (it didn't arrive - came the next day). I sent daily emails to the owner of the company about the repairs - no response to several emails - and FINALLY, on 02/08/16 (almost 2 weeks later) someone from Van Gogh came and made repairs to the table base, the cabinet & bar that I was satisfied with. As for the mirror - I was told by the owner, they had ordered the mirror from Bear Glass on 01/30/16, when I heard nothing about the mirror for more than 2 weeks, I emailed to inquire, and was called by Joey, that he had bad news - the mirror had been remade, but not with a beveled edge - so it had to be redone - so it would not be ready until the first week of March. Furious at this, I asked for the glass company's number to call and verify, and was told a DIFFERENT company name (Panda) and I called that company. Imagine my surprise when I was informed the mirror had only been ordered on 02/10/16 - not in January as I was told earlier. No communication from Van Gogh until I emailed them on 03/11 - the mirror was FINALLY delivered 03/17/16 - SEVEN WEEKS AFTER IT HAD BEEN BROKEN BY VAN GOGH MOVERS!!!!!!!! read more
