I'd like to state my 3 star rating is actually 3.5 Came in after an early dinner at Screamers pizza next door. Line was nearly out the door, but the crowd was handled well. Customer service was OK. I was asked if I wanted to try something and when asked about one of the flavors all I got was "coconutty and sweet" with a bit of an attitude :/ I ended up having the cookie crumble strawberry jam wedged between two vegan chocolate chip cookies, which were delicious. Might I add, they also had a saltiness to them which I enjoyed. However, the combo of these two was alright. Ice cream was very soft and already melting when I sat down. Cookies overpowered the taste of the ice cream, and serving was barely a full scoop when I opened it up. Overall the experience was ok, but nothing spectacular for vegan ice cream or the price. Covid is basically over, so I can finally be real with crapppy customer service. Came on a Wednesday around 3:30pm for their Mac and cheese special. Yes Mac and cheese! Everyone said it was weirdly good. I asked if they had it and the girl working gave the rudest stare and said "no". Didn't ask if I wanted anything else. Just stared. Here I am glistening In sweat walking in 90 degree heat. I then asked if they would get more. She again stared at me and with a valley girl annoyed voice said "maybe today, maybe tomorrow." Eyeroll. When I walked in the door I got smacked in the face by a warm tropical air in the store that was very unpleasant. The only cold thing in the store was the guy working behind the counter. After YEARS of ordering their food truck for hardworking tv/film crews, this is the first time I've ever had to deal with the most unprofessional catering events manager ever. Today she told me I had until 5pm tomorrow 5/12 to sign a contract and pay for the ice cream truck. When I asked to speak with her over the phone she surprises me with "We're no longer available. It's first come first serve and someone else just asked for that date and they're going to sign our contract. Oh but if they don't by 5pm, we'll do it for you." Pretty much my holy grail, go to ice cream spot. I get their pints from the grocery store (c-town), if I can't make it out to the store front itself. There are no words to describe their ice cream flavors, but maybe H E A V E N L Y. Go to flavors would it include: honey comb, salted caramel, mint chip. Once I made it to the front, I was NOT greeted warmly by the young "lady" behind the counter. No, "hello", no "welcome", not even a smile. My fiance order a 2 scoop cone. I told her I would take the the same, but with different flavors I indicated. She looked at me and said, "Cone or cup". I said a cone. She nastily said, "Because we have both". It is not WHAT she said, but HOW she said it. Her tone was condescending as if she ended the sentence with "IDIOT". Cool, I let that slide. Now we get our ordered cones. Still no smile, still no warmth. I was handed mine coldly. I say "Thank you". No eye contact and in fact, I am given her left shoulder as if I didn't exist. I said "Thank you" again, now she looks at me with a face of stone me and just looks away without a response. I said "Thank you" A THIRD TIME and now she looks at me with a face of disgust and hums a "Um Hm". WTF! Is it because I am Black? Just a bad day? Perhaps she feels serving ice cream is greater that what I do for my six figure salary? Ah, but it is not for me to question. It is my money and I decide where I spend it. Guess where myself, nor every friend in ear shot WON'T be going......... Stop buying dumb "unicorn flavored" food that looks good on instagram and then tastes like shit, and start getting Planet Earth that will be good for the soul and gram. Oh! My! Goodness! I went in the other day and tried the vegan Earl Gray & was completely BLOWN away! The creaminess of the oat milk base coupled with shortbread pieces made with @miyokoscreamery vegan butter is the MOST flavorable combo ever! This is what happens when quality ingredients are used. The Earl Gray is a special but I'm advocating for it to stay on the menu or at the very least be on rotation periodically throughout the year. The place on Manhattan Ave is clean, bright & airy. I told the very nice & attentive cashier it kind of gave me a Grand Central station vibe. Maybe its the arch. Listen, do yourself a favor & just go & get it. Your taste buds will thank you. I had all good things to say about this joint BUT that is all over because of my last visit. We stopped in on a warm day to get my usual Honeycomb ice cream. I absolutely love this flavor. Sadly I will not be having it anymore in Greenpoint because of the way I was treated by the "staff" and I use that term loosely. I get two scoops on a sugar cone. They usually put a healthy to scoops and rightfully so since it costs $10. When I was handed my last cone it looked like I purchased a single scoop. I asked the guy who prepared it and he said that is the way that they do it. I said that doesn't make sense. He then said that they push the first scoop down inside the cone. Again I said that is never how I have had it in the past. Sadly he was rude which has now cost the shop of loosing my business. Also to add insult to injury I always tip at least 20%. I just have lost all respect for the Greenpoint location. Thanks so much. All he had to do was add a little bit more of the ice cream I have grown so fondly of. Again: thanks so much. read more

However, Van Leeuwen is the GOAT for vegans and those who are lactose intolerant, which I recently am starting to become to my greatest disappointment. On a hot sunny Saturday in Greenpoint, my BF and I waited on line for around 15-20 min which was not bad. This location had a few booths, some countertops, and a bench outside so there's ample seating since most people just grab and go. (boggles me) We shared a two scoop sundae with green planet, their seasonal vegan flavor, and mint chip, which was creamy and decadent. The most impressive part of it all was the vegan whipped cream. I got sesame ash chocolate cake (one scoop cone for $5.50, and it is really rich with a lot of bite-size chocolate cake (a little too many for me because I wanted more of the sesame ice cream but overall, it still taste good). All of them have their own unique twists to them and we all enjoy our flavors. There was a line but it went really fast and there are some seating. The decor was comfy and relaxing. I stumbled upon this place when I walked off the subway and decided to give it a try. I had no idea it was an ice cream shop when I walked in so I was pleasantly surprised. The decor is fairly understated with vinyl records being played over the speakers for a nice ambiance. It is small so the three tables were taken when I came in, but I was able to snag one of the four bar stools against the wall. I was looking for a pick me so I was able to combine my love of espresso and ice cream with an affogato. The vanilla ice cream was sweet and creamy while the espresso was unlike any I've ever had before. Not bitter at all! Smooth with dynamic caramel/chocolate undertones that were complimented by the sweetness of the ice cream. This was my first affogato and I fear others will never measure up! Sadly I was not able to try other items on the menu which was quite vast. This just gives me an excuse to return! read more
