Swung in for a Yelp event. Loved the cookies and cream and special summer berry flavor! Staff was friendly and helpful. It's a small area and they don't have a million flavors, but they have a vegan one and some toppings! One improvement I would say is to spice up your menu displays a bit! We took my son for ice cream the other night when we were at the 29th St. concert series. He endedseries he ended up getting (maybe blueberry cheesecake ice cream- my husband took him in) which is typically not my favorite, but it was excellent ice cream. My husband ended up going back and getting us a black cherry sundae to split and it was also really good although after a little while it did get to be a little bit much for me I appreciated the fact that they used high-quality maraschino cherries in the Sunday that really made it special. read more

We had ice cream for dinner and it was delicious! When we walked in, Andy, who was the solo employee while we were there, was cleaning the shop. He greeted us and gave us time to look at the menu which was great since it was my first visit. I immediately found my favorite ice cream flavor and another to try: mint chip and dark chocolate fudge brownie. The chocolate was creamy and balanced so you could taste the dark chocolate and the sweet goodness. The mint chip, my husband and I both agreed, was possibly the best mint chip we've had. The chips were big enough to crunch and taste while still getting the flavors of the ice cream. The mint is sweet and the ice cream, well, creamy! My husband ordered the vanilla bean with salted caramel sauce. This was one of the best vanillas that I've had. Vanilla and oh so creamy goodness with a pop of salted caramel to delight the mouth! Andy was gracious and friendly. He's worked there a year so I think that's a good sign. Right after we walked in he had a long line of customers and since it's quite a small space, we took our ice cream to a shady spot outside. I lived in NYC around the time Van Leeuwen was starting up and remember their ice cream trucks and first stores in Manhattan, from until 2010 to 2020. It used to be a real treat to eat their ice cream, just delicious. However, in my opinion, the quality of their ice cream has seriously declined since then. It used to be creamier and much less sweet, the stuff from their stores now, if the Boulder location is any indication, just doesn't taste as good. I can barely eat their store ice cream now, it's just way too sweet. The cones are even worse: All sugar, no flavor. Perhaps this is the fate of small businesses that grow quickly. I don't like to be negative, but I find their ice cream inedible now. We checked this store out and tried the black cherry chip, honey comb, pumpkin cheesecake, and blueberry short cake. The black cherry and blueberry short cake were awesome and would totally have those ones again. The other two flavors were decent but not mind blowing. The store was clean and had a cute atmosphere. I really liked the seating. We went on a Wednesday night around closing and the one person there was super nice and really helpful even though we were there late. I'm rating 4 stars because the flavors weren't amazing and I was expecting a lot since I keep seeing this name popping up everywhere as being an awesome ice cream shop. Also I think the prices are pretty expensive even for gourmet ice cream and in Boulder. I also feel like they had too many flavors and sometimes that's a good thing but I didn't feel that way here. Came here on a warm sunny day when ice cream was much needed. The cashier/scooper was very friendly. They have some very unique flavors which is cool. My friend got the earl grey and strawberry 2 scoops. She liked that the strawberry was more strawberry than vanilla and the ear grey was more like London fog tea. She added gummy bears and they didn't get hard at all which was great. I had the double chocolate brownie and coffee which was delicious. A milkshake was $10 and a single scoop of ice cream was over $6. Considering both the quality and the price, there are other spots in Boulder I would go to first.
