The guys tore out a 60 (?) year old walkway along the side of my house and installed new drainage - hooray, no more water in my garage! - rebar and new concrete to match the driveway, front walkway, and sidewalk they'd previously installed. We have a commercial project downtown San Rafael that had some trip hazards and needed some overhauling. It was a large project involved nearly shutting down the entire complex for a week. After submitting a very competitive bid, we had Van Midde & Son redo our driveway, pathway & backyard. We wanted to repurpose some old brick that existed in the backyard as well keep an old horseshoe that was embedded in the 50+ year old existing concrete. Other more "corporate" paver companies scoffed at this idea and basically called us ding dongs for even considering it. Not Ted & crew. They repurposed the old brick to make a small wall to serve as step up to a small grassed area, which turned out to be artificial grass. I was hesitant about installing artificial grass at first, but due to shade, children, dog pee & the drought, the cards were stacked against natural grass. Ted provided a great variety of swatches of fake grass, and it turned out great. Looks real, no mowing or waste of water. And we ended up relocating the horseshoe to the base of our steps in our driveway. Ted and his crew were very collaborative and extremely helpful throughout the process. Even helped carry in groceries and made sure our escape artist of a Bassett hound did not escape during the construction. Also they are local, which is a major plus. We had just moved to San Anselmo and this company was recommended by the local concrete supplier. Jason, our contact person was patient, knowledgeable and thorough. For awhile, we just couldn't decide exactly what we wanted done and he kept on revising our estimates. At first I couldn't understand why the prices were so high since I had never had concrete work done before. I didn't understand the process that went into site preparation before the concrete pour. There was a full week of preparation. The final product turned out great! In fact, their work was better than the concrete that had just been installed at our house before we bought it. We were able to get the color of the original work so the job looks seamless. The workers were prompt, kept the site clean and Jason was on top of the job the whole time. We have done a lot of renovation and have had many aggravating experiences, in fact we are dealing with one right now, so I don't give a 5 star review lightly. Jason Van Midde and his crew did an excellent job replacing the old combo concrete and railroad tie patchwork path, steps, gravel and dirt entry to our home in San Anselmo. Start to finish, he helped us see what was possible, supported our vision for what we wanted and created an absolutely outstanding entry to our home to our satisfaction. The team was big, the concrete complex and the design challenging but right down to the color of the concrete, every detail he took painstaking care to be sure we were delivered both what he promised and what we hoped for every step of the way. His crew was courteous, neat and detail oriented and would stop to ask if they were not clear about what was next or how we wanted it done. His communication skills are excellent and he knows when to exercise them. It was what I'd call a medium size job, though if you know Marin county, you understand that stairs can be critical for home access, here we require 40 stairs to get in the front door. Right down to creating cross walkway tunnels for irrigation and electrical work, it was all laid out and executed as expected on time within budget. As the walkway came together I realized we really needed to demo the driveway and piggyback onto the walkway to tie in the design out to the sidewalk. When our 80 year old Connecticut Blue Stone patio needed to be repaired, our first thought was to replace it with stamped concrete to keep the price down while maintaining the Old World stone look. I requested a quote from this business via email and had them do a small job. Months later, their business was hacked and I started receiving phishing emails from company accounts. I called and was told in an annoyed tone to just ignore them, but months later the phishing emails continue, but I have not received any communication from the company explaining what happened, and if any of my personal account information was put at risk.
