Definitely overpriced, but still pretty good. We tried the Kletskop and Crunchy Hazelnut, and they were very generous with the toppings. That said, it came out to about $25 USD for just two stroopwafels, which felt steep, especially since you can find similar ones around the city for much cheaper that I hear are just as good. Still, if you're a tourist visiting for the first time, it's probably worth trying at least once.
We tried a few stroop wafels and I have to say these were the best. We got original so we could see what the hype was about. I kind of wish I had gone back to try them chocolate dipped as we tried another place later like that and they definitely werent as good. The line was a bit long but they seem to have it down pretty good here so we didn't wait too long. Store itself is small and cozy and cutely decorated. Staff was friendly and efficient. Worth trying if you have the time or the line isnt too long.
When I visited Amsterdam, trying a stroopwafel was a must. I went to one of the most famous shops in the city for this iconic treat. There were so many kinds of stroopwafels in the shop, making it difficult to choose. I decided to get one of the larger stroopwafels at the counter and also grabbed a mini stroopwafel as a souvenir. I ordered the salted caramel stroopwafel. The staff dipped it in chocolate and added toppings. The waffle itself was soft , with a chewy texture from the syrup filling between the layers. It was sweeter than I expected, but still very good! It was a very cute shop, and I really enjoyed shopping for waffles there. It's a great place for tourists to find stroopwafel souvenirs!
The storefront is adorable and inviting. We went and there was a line out the door but it moved quickly. Staff were friendly and service was quick. Everything tasted delicious. We tried the Kit Kat and Hazelnut and they didn't disappoint
I could not resist coming in after seeing the beautiful storefront of Van Wonderen Stroopewaffels. Year round, their storefront is inviting, welcoming to all and beautifully decorated for each season. I'm a sucker for attractive branding, so while waiting in line, I decided to buy a canister to take home. Unfortunately, the top metal canisters were just for show, and the only ones that were for sale were the cardboard ones. You can imagine the end (hint: crushed). At the counter, you can choose between mini or whole stroopwafels in various flavors. Just a heads-up: it can get quite messy! I ended up with caramel everywhere--crumbs and nuts scattered all over. Verdict: The exterior of the stroopwafels tasted stale. I've had better from packaged Daelmans available at the grocery store.
This location always seems to be jam packed, because it is the midst of a large shopping area/mall. We did wait in a line that wrapped around the restaurant, but it was fairly quick moving. We did have to wait 10+ minutes for our order though. They didn't have their prices clearly listed while we waited so we decided to get 3 mini stoop waffles so we can try the different flavors. three mini stoop waffles actually seems like a good sized snack amount for two people, but I guess since they made us wait so long for our order, they gave us 3 medium sized stoopwaffles. We paid about $31 for 3 mini stoopwaffles, which is definitely in the more expensive side. It seems like you get more bang for your buck though if you go for one of the larger sized stoopwaffles. These are a great option if you are sharing. They tasted great, but I do feel like they are overpriced.
While the stroopwafels are Insta-worthy here, I think you're better off going to a local spot where they handmake it in front of you --no toppings. But if you like going the extra mile then check this spot out. We only ordered one small stroopwafel (€10) to share since I was shocked how pricey they were. There's a variety of topping flavors to choose from and we opted for the Biscoff version. Not only was this pricey and small, it was so messy to eat. The crumbs of the toppings were falling all over the place and probably 1/3 of it ended up on the floor. It was also overly sweet. Overall, this spot is overhyped for what it is.
An absolute must when you're walking around Amsterdam! My hotel was only a few blocks away so I ended up going here three times throughout my stay. I loved that the stroopwafels come in difference sizes. I got the large one my first time and that's a lot of sweet caramel + toppings for one person! I think I got the smaller versions the next few times. My favorite was definitely the speculaas topping as that really complimented the warm caramel and waffle cookie. I forgot the name of the other topping, but it was this hard caramel center with a chocolate coating. That was also great, especially since the warmth of the stroopwafel helped melt the chocolate a little bit, but I realized I wasn't a huge fan of the hard caramel. Mom got a salted caramel topping that came in little balls and that was really good actually, I liked that one a bit more because the caramel was softer. Seemed like there was always a line here no matter what time we arrived but it goes fairly quickly so I don't think we ever waited more than about 20 minutes. They also sell really cute tins so we bought one of those as well as a keepsake. A sweet, sugary, and delicious treat that's prefect to graze on while you walk around sight-seeing. But pro tip, it can get messy towards the end even in the holder it comes in, so pack some wet wipes and bring them to clean your hands afterwards so they aren't sticky :)
Ordered: Mini Oreo Stroopwafel (€10) Mini Crunchy Hazelnut Stroopwafel (€10) Aya's take: You know it's real when you get attacked by a bee while eating your stroopwafels outside. I stopped by the famous Van Wonderen and the line was a bit long. It took about 15 minutes to order and maybe another 10 minutes to get my order. Price-wise, it's quite pricy for what you're getting. Despite all this, was it a good one-time try? Absolutely. The stroopwafels were fresh, not too sweet, and served in these cute pouches. Both flavors I got were delicious but the Crunchy Hazelnut is a must! I was pleasantly surprised. This is a must-stop for your first time in Amsterdam!
This place is all over all of the must-do lists in Amsterdam, and there is a line outside to prove it. We decided to see what it was all about one day, and waited quite a while to get our stroopwafels. I was shocked at the price and size - they are quite small, and quite expensive! We had a gigantic stroopwafel at a street fair the day prior that was much more affordable, made fresh right in front of us, and tasted better. I think Van Wonderen is great if you want the Instagram-perfect experience, but if I were to return to Amsterdam, I would try to find somewhere more local instead.
The traditional all Dutch Stroopwaffle is delicious. Many flavors to choose from. All are freshly made right before you. This is a lovely little store, complete with a chandelier. The issue I have is the price. This is the costliest Stroopwaffle I have ever had. Check the receipt. Each medium Stroopwaffle is €8.45. That's a little crazy! The small one is €6.95. Definitely worth trying, once :)
just meh. The shop was cute but the staff wasn't welcoming and the stroopwafels were really soggy. I am hoping to find another spot that may change my mind.

I saw this place all over Instagram so I knew I had to try it while in Amsterdam. It's a tiny little shop, you really have to keep an eye out for it. There's standing room for about 5 people. There were two woman behind the counter who were quickly taking orders and delivering waffles. There were several different waffle toppings to choose from. I went with chocolate and m&ms. I don't really have a sweet tooth at all, so maybe I'm over exaggerating but these are SWEET SWEET ! I could only eat like half of mine (and they are super small) before I had enough. They are really good and an even better on the go snack while walking through Amsterdam. It also helps that they are super cute. I'm giving three stars because they were good but not the best dessert ever. read more
When in Amsterdam, you have to get the stroopwafels right?! This place had a little line for a reason. They make them fresh and warm right there. I have had the packaged ones you are supposed to warm over a cup of coffee but nothing like the gooey goodness of these. I got the classic Kletskop stroopwafels as the others seemed like too much. It was sweet and crunchy and had an awesome flavor. I highly recommend. Worth a stop if in the area. read more

While there were many things we wanted to try in Amsterdam, the one at the top of the list was cannabis. Ok, maybe not cannabis, but actually stroopwafels. Cannabis was second. Unfortunately, the Albert Cuyp market was closed on the one day we were in Amsterdam. We were hoping to try MANY different Dutch foods at the market. I asked a friend who lives in Amsterdam where he normally goes and he recommended this place. I looked around and luckily this location was on the way to the Royal Palace. As we get closer to the shop, we notice there is a line out the door. However, it was only about 5 people out the door and 5 people inside. It couldn't be that long of a wait, could it? Well, unfortunately, it was. There was basically only 2 people in the shop: one person attending to the customers and one person making the stroopwafels. What I thought would be 20 mins or so, ended up to be over an hour. They need to work on the process a little bit. There was 1 person bringing some stroopwafels from upstairs, but even with that, it was still a long line. There are 3 different sizes normally, but on this day, they only had the small. However, the small looked closer to a medium. They have about 8 or 9 different flavors, but we went with marshmallow, speculoos, and a peanut/caramel cookie. I didn't try the marshmallow, because my daughter wanted that one. However, I liked the other two. Because these are made with syrup, I thought they were super sweet. But, they were really good. The fresh stroopwafels are nothing like the packaged ones you can find in the stores in America. Even if they are made in Amsterdam. They serve a few other items in the shop. However, it's hard to take a look around, because people are waiting in the store for their order. Some of the items looked really good, but I wasn't going to wait in line again. Now the girls working the front were overworked, but in good spirits. They always had smiles and seemed to enjoy helping the customers. They just need to find a better system to handle all the customers. Note: While walking back to our bus stop, we saw another location and there was hardly anyone in that shop. Look around and see if another location of Van Wonderen would be better to visit. read more
Must go when you're in Amsterdam. A cute, VERY small, shop full of sugary and caramel goodness. I follow their Instagram account and made sure this was at the top of my list. It did not disappoint. Although, I did not expect the shop to be so small! That was surprising. I opted for the small stroopwafel with caramel bits on it. Looking back though, I wish I would have chosen a different one since the inside is filled with caramel...oh well! read more

We went to Van Wonderen three hours before closing and waited in the queue. We had seen the tiktok hype and the place is adorable, but we were more than a little surprised by the conditions behind the counter. -It was filthy. Crumbs and chocolate and dirt were liberally sprinkled on the floor. In addition, a quick glance at the light fixtures showed thick dust that had to have occurred over months. The cords over the counter even had thick dust bunnies. - The jars of toppings and vats of chocolate and caramel were dirty and had particles of the other items floating/smeared/dropped in. I'd love to think they toss those jars at the end of the day, but I think it unlikely? - The employees were sweet but also covered in mess. They wear white coats and a black apron but the ones who didn't have their apron on were smeared with toppings and even had clingers of various candy topping. One employee was sipping at a drink, scrolling in her phone and left her gloves on the counter and went right back to handling the waffles inbetween sips and swipes. - The waffle presses had not been on for hours by the time we came in. They were stacked on a shelf abhove the counter and grabbed as people ordered. - When people orders more small ones than they had already made behind the counter, they walked out and grabbed the ones packaged for sale in the shop, ripped the package off and served them to the guests for a mere 5.95. (This is a cookie-sized waffle.). Our medium sized one was nearly $9 (8.45 Euro) with no toppings. - I can't say they didn't taste good! After all that, I'd call them "yummy". Nothing life changing and not super fresh... but tasty! read more

Mouthwatering and pure deliciousness. Expect a looooong wait if you come here during the later half of the afternoon. Getting here around 3 took about an hour to order and receive our treats, but it was well worth it! The shop has a sweet aroma that fills the air and a cozy feeling that makes it feel like a hole in the whole. The staff is very pleasant despite being absolutely slammed with business. Located near the city center, this is a must stop when traveling the alleyways and winding streets of Amsterdam...especially if you love sweets! read more

Got the crunchy hazelnut (bottom right) Salted Caramel (up left). There's caramel sauce in between the two crispy waffles with milk chocolate cover on the top half. Personally I think is a bit too sweet but overall was a great experience to try it! read more

Amazing small shop that makes handmade stroopwafels with fun toppings! There was a small line when we got there but it moved relatively quickly! We ordered one regular stroopwafel with no toppings and one with chocolate and Kletskop (a dutch cookie made with sugar, butter and peanuts/almonds). Both were warm, sweet and so satisfying! I really loved this place and would recommend it to anyone wanting an authentic stroopwafel in Amsterdam! read more

I almost didn't get a stroopwafel during my three days in Amsterdam because the idea of it just didn't sound appealing to me (I shy away from overly sweet things), but decided to try out this place after our last dinner... AND IT WAS SO GOOD! Make sure you get one that is freshly made (cannot compare with the premade packaged ones) and you will not regret it. This is coming from someone who is very picky about her desserts. read more

This a modern and fun take on the Stole Dutch dessert: stroopwafel. While the toppings and drippings of the stroopwafel look very good. The way it was served was not so authentic. Usually you will see stroopwafel stands heat pressing the waffels In front of you and applying warm caramel inside the wafel. Van wonderen stroopwafels were making fresh stroopwafels but you were served the ones that were already sitting out and cold. Great place to go to. I was wandering about the streets and looking for a fresh Stroopwafel when i stumbled (sought out on yelp) this place. It was pretty empty when i arrived so service was quick and to the point. They had a lot of options for toppings and made it fresh right in front of me. I LOVE stroopwafels and love them even more warm with toppings. I do wish i would have made it to an open air market to get one but this was a fantastic replacement. read more
I was excited about this place ever since I found them on Instagram, and have been following them since. After going out of my way to look for the closest location, I was a little disappointed and thought their stroopwafels were a little underwhelming. I got a few to try and it was too sugary and not as fresh as I thought. For the price I paid, I don't think it was all that. Not the greatest, not the worst. Just solid 3 star good. Nothing in particular really stood out, but nothing was particularly bad either. read more

One of Amsterdam's classics, Van Wonderen is often swamped with tourists, to the point where the line sometimes extends outside the door. My friend and I just happened to wander by -- not having known it was such a popular destination -- and despite our full stomachs, we thought it would be a shame to just walk past it. The place gives customers that kid-in-a-candy-store type feeling with its time-y ambiance and colorful array of waffles. Staff were warm and friendly, and were able to juggle both accommodating customers and tending to the waffle machine, so you always felt attended to. Patrons are offered the choice of getting a fresh waffle or one that was made prior, and it is possible to go all-out put all sorts of toppings, and intake seven months' worth of sugar. As fantastic as the place was, the waffle fell short of wonder-ful. Having had a couple of stroopwaffels prior, I already knew that they tend to fell on the sweet-side of desserts, so I was skeptical and thus avoid the stroopwaffels with extra toppings, instead opting for one just dipped in chocolate. A stroopwaffel with chocolate was sickeningly sweet, and my friend's, with M&Ms, fell short of enjoyable. It was just too much. It's great to go to have the experience, but I'd just stick with the classic fresh stroopwaffel. read more
I saw this place was highly recommended for the iconic stroopwafel and made the trek here for just that. Went with a basic chocolate dipped wafel. And it was amazing! Two thin wafels with molten caramel in between, dipped in chocolate. The wafels have a perfect light crisp outer layer with a warm inside. Hot and gooey inside. Caramel and chocolate in combination with a hot, lightly crisp but soft and delicate wafel. You must get one! read more

A lot of people visit this place for their insta-worthy stroopwafels, but they are overpriced, and don't really taste any different than the ones that you can get from the nearby market. Don't go out of your way to try these as they aren't anything special. Stroopwafels are great regardless of where you go in the city! read more

THIS was amazing! If you're in Amsterdam and staying in the city this is a must (if you love caramel) Stroopwafels are essentially 2 waffle cookies and a thin layer of caramel in between. Plus they have a variety of toppings. Fresh, warm and so delicious!! Make sure you make room after dinner for one of these read more

The stroopwafels are super picture worthy, which I assume is why they have such a long line out the door. The line moves moderately fast. I ordered one with cookie butter and caramel on it, I think. It was really yummy and not as sickenly sweet as I thought it would be. You can order a few, but I just wanted one, which was pricey enough as it was. The staff were really nice and I say it was worth trying but not worth going back a second time, especially considering how many other stroopwafel places there are. read more
I was mindlessly walking around the streets of the city when I passed the window of Van Wonderen and saw the most beautiful and colorful strropwafels. The display was enough to make me want to come inside and take a look around. They take stroopwafels and drizzle them in chocolate sauce and you get to pick a topping. You also have a choice of regular size or a large size. They were just so pretty that even though I had been snacking all day and had stroopwafels already earlier in the day, I decided that I had to get one. I waited in the short line (it was short but it isn't fast because there's just one girl who is taking the orders and making the stroopwafels) and decided on a kletskop (which is a Dutch cookie made of nuts and caramel). I saw the girl take out some fresh dough and press it into the stroopwafel press, which was cool to see, and it meant that I got a very fresh stroopwafel. I was underwhelmed. While very beautiful, the stroopwafel was waaaay tooooo sweet. I guess this was expected - the stroopwafel itself is already sweet and then add chocolate sauce plus cookie crumbles, it's going to be extra sweet. And it's also really dry, so you desperately want some water or milk to wash it down. And the stroopwafel is hard to eat while walking around - the cookie crumbles when you bite into it and the chocolate drips into the paper cone that it comes in. Final thoughts: very pretty, but too sweet and too pricey for what it is. read more

I chose the chocolate dipped with mixed nuts And watched the sweetest waffle maker at work But these stroopwaffles are perfection despite the caramel and chocolate dipping Not overly sweet... let it set in the takeout box and do order it freshly made! read more

Delicious Stroopwafels we got one of each and even went back for a second time. The best stroopwafels around, ask for a fresh one rather than the pre-made. Also I'm not a sweets person at all so when I say I went twice that's saying a whole lots There are a few in the city so you'll have multiple chances to check it out. I even brought some back to my hotel ate them the next day later... pro tip... if you're eating them the next day with tea or coffee, while youre waiting for your drink to cool down, heat the stroopwafel by placing it as a lid on top of your drink so that the syrup can liquify and get that creamy was back again. Just watch it though and make sure to flip it. 1 min each side should be good. Then you can dip or just eat and drink. Super good. read more

Incredible stroopwafels. My friends and I each got the M&M stroopwafel and it far exceeded our expectations. A bit on the pricey side but that's expected for a touristy food stop like this one (I think it came out to around 7 or 8 USD for a medium). There's a bunch all over the city so there's definitely no shortage! read more
