Unbelievably unresponsive. It has been almost 5 weeks since the technician came to my house, and not ONCE in that time have they reached out to keep me in the loop, even after promising to do so. I have had to call them myself to initiate every single piece of communication, and every time they have said something along the lines of "I will reach out to the technician and get back to you by the end of the day" and then not once have I gotten a return call. Everyone that I've spoken with has been pleasant enough, but that doesn't fix my broken equipment. read more

I needed my Generator serviced (annual oil and filter maintenance). Rachel on the phone gave me a quote of $309. The service in the past had ran $325 from other providers. Do I told her great sign me up and I gave her the model and make of the generator. The tech comes out one week later and said it was going to cost $609!!! I said what the h---! I said call Rachel as she gave me the quote and I expect Vander Hyde to honor it! He did and reported back that it is still going to cost me $609. I told them to kindly leave and I will go elsewhere. Do not hire Vander Hyde. I needed a simple light fixture in a bathroom replaced and an outlet installed for an above the range microwave; the hardwiring was already in place. The charge for this visit was over $300.00 which I paid and felt was okay. Unfortunately, the unexperienced team they sent did not know that 100% of above the range microwaves require the outlet to go in the cabinet above and not in the wall. When he asked me where I wanted it I said I didn't know and suggested the cabinet but he said a couple of times that he could put it in the cabinet or the wall and the wall was definitely easier for him so I said that I thought that it would be okay; wrongfully assuming that he knew what he was doing and that it didn't matter and that he, as the professional, knew what he was doing. As stated above, it needed to be above the microwave in the cabinet they ALL do, standard procedure. The installers that came later advised me that all of them are that way, and any qualified residential electrician should know that. I had to pay the installers $100 to come back again. I called Vander Hyde and they sent the same guy and a more qualified guy back to correct the problem. While they were here, I also had them remove an electrical outlet from behind the range and said I would obviously pay for that which took all of 5-10 minutes. They charged me an additional $180+ for the second visit. My total cost for having an outlet installed, replacing a simple bathroom light fixture, and removing an outlet ended up being over $480! I tried to call Vander Hyde to come to a more reasonable resolution regarding the charge on this and the woman I spoke to was very rude and could have cared less. Why hire a "professional" if they don't even know the basics like where an outlet for a standard appliance should go. They tried to make me feel stupid and responsible for not knowing where the outlet should have gone in the first place, "it was installed where you told him to put it", but I am not the electrician and told him, "I don't know" before he installed it. If he didn't know he should have called someone and confirmed instead of just doing the easiest thing and charging top dollar for it. Terrible, expensive and disappointing experience. Final note, the bathroom light fixture was lazily installed as well. They just popped it in where the old one was and now it is very off center from the mirror and vanity. read more

We've used VanderHyde before (about 4 times) with overall good results. Not this time. They quoted $335 to unclog a blocked sewer line. After about 2 hours of trying they gave up and said we needed very extensive repairs. I called Ryan's and for $263 they cleared it in an hour with no problem. Had I listened to VanderHyde I'd have spend thousands unnecessarily. Even though they didn't clear the line as quoted they charged me the full price. I will not be calling them again. read more

To start off, I try to stay away from writing reviews but when companies care more about the bottom line than their customers and contradict their own business statements of why they are in business...It warrants an honest review. NOTE: I would read all recent customer reviews to make your own opinions on whether to use their services or not. But I have to echo other people's displeasure of being overcharged for minimal work and the fact of shady business practices. If you do your homework and search around there are very affordable companies with just as good if not better repair services. Most recently we had them out for a "Warranty" service as the Furnace and AC unit were installed by them and only serviced by them. During that service the tech broke a piece of our heating and cooling unit. Instead of permanently fixing onsite at the moment, he patched up to avoid any leak but it wasn't properly fixed. He stated he would need to call the office and have them determine if he can fix at their cost even though he damaged the part. After 2 weeks of trying to get a follow up response, through emails and calls to the office, we finally received a message stating they would try to replace part but "WE" would have to pay for the labor to fix AND if they aren't able to fix the piece their HVAC tech broke, we would have to pay more to replace the larger part that the smaller part fits into. What a crock of crap!... They preach they are customer focused but really aren't. Their message is "We break and you pay." Not only would I not recommend them but I would discourage anyone else from using them. read more

If ZERO STARS were an option that's what we would rate this company! We called to have an AC tune-up. The service technician was very arrogant and belittling, and after he left the AC was working even worse than before he came. He also tried to sell us a new furnace and water heater even though they still work fine, especially the water heater which is only 7 years old!!! My husband called that day and spoke to the tech's manager and was told they would call him back, but here we are 2 days later and still no call! We will never use this company again and we'll warn everyone we know not to use them. read more

I purchased a NEW furnace in April 2015 and have had 2 service calls since. The first issue was just a wire touching the wrong place. But 2 days ago no heat again. Apparently he couldn't find anything wrong, so he replaced a panel? The furnace has a 10 year warranty but that doesn't cover labor?? I couldn't believe they were charging me $194.00, this is a brand new furnace. Tried calling and emailing the company with no response. Would not recommend VanderHyde! Go somewhere else read more

I am Very disappointed with the services I received through this company. The HIDDEN fees are crazy. I understand the $79 fee to come out but I was never told of a diagnostic fee that I would be charged to actually do the estimate, that was another $88. So for them to come out and spend 5 minutes at my home would have cost me $167. When I called to ask why I wasn't at least told about another fee to expect, the lady told me that everybody's fee is different depending on the job so they just don't include that. Withholding information like this is dirty business. Feeling trapped in their fees, I did choose to allow them to do the work and now I am left to repair some accidental "nicks" that were left on my ceiling. There is now a nickel size whole randomly in my ceiling. I wasn't compensated for those holes, just basically was told sorry. The last upsetting thing was that one of the guys peed in my toilet and left it there. This is disgusting and unacceptable. I would not recommend Vander Hyde to anyone at this point and plan on telling my friends. I hope they are more honest and upfront in the future. read more

I called them to do a $79 check up. It was 2 weeks out, in the meantime my AC stopped blowing cool air. He changed it to a service call. He quoted over $900 to fix. Long story, shortened. I told him I had to talk with my son and would maybe be calling him. Got my nephew to fix it , it took him 1/2 hour and the rep was going to charge$290. Not to mention one of the parts was marked up 6 times the cost. Very expensive!! read more

Had used Vanderhyde in past for furnace repair and then an air conditioning install had received excellent service with fair pricing. Decided to use them to hook up new dishwasher and new sink last week 8/7/19 and was given what I considered a ridiculous price of $980 to hook up both even with the over $100 in parts I supplied them with but because I had gotten such great service before I said ok. Took them 4 hrs to install and one guys was just a runner basically for tools because he was new apparently but later on in evening I discovered they had drilled a hole in finished ceilings in room behind the area they were doing install in. They must have known they did it because they left the drill bit on my new carpet on floor and never said a word to me before they left my house. I was here and listening and watching work upstairs whole time and he asked guy 3/4 times in lower level if he could see him drilling through and guy said no and he went down to look but never said a word to me that he did damage in another room. I called and left message that night, no return call. Called after 2 days and girl in office said she needed to talk to guy that did install and would call back. Waited and called again on 8/14/19 now get smart mouth girl that says send pictures and we'll get back to you. Sent pictures and now waiting again. At this point I would never recommend the company again and I was very quick before to do so because furnace and air conditioning were so great in past but clearly plumbing side is very bad and dishonest side of company read more

They wrote out a invoice for us and did the wrong math ACCORDING to their written amount and would not stand by the fee. A difference of about 50.00 This also was my 4th time trying to get someone to return my phone call. I would never use them again and will be taking their oversized sticker off of my furnace. FYI... They charge a dispatch fee of 80.00 which is fine but on top of that after hrs fee they charge 50.00 a quarter hr. This time also starts from when the technician leaves HIS front door. Like we have control over who they hire and where they live! This 1.5 hrs service cost use 425.00 on a Friday evening around 6 pm. They replaced an igniter that was a 75.00 part. The rest was all their fees! read more

I've used VanderHyde for years. However, this month my boiler had issues heating all the zones in my house. I called them and they sent out a repairman who did a few things, declared the problem fixed, charged $170, and left. I got home that night and my house was frigid. I called back and they said it would take a while for the heat to catch up. About 10 degrees colder and a couple hours later, I finally went to hotel with my kids. I called VanderHyde and they came out the next day with the "boiler expert" who did, indeed, fix the problem. They charged me ANOTHER $660 for that repair, with no credit for the useless work done the day before. I asked for a refund of the $170 and they refused to provide it. I'll never use them again. read more

We have used Vanderhyde for the last 7 years and will no longer be using them. Make sure you shop around for HVAC because they tend to be over priced. Our last experience was the nail in the coffin that confirmed that we will not use them again. We had signed up for their annual maintenance plan for $90 and they come out and check up your AC in spring and furnace in fall. I called to schedule the AC check up and the day before they were to come they had to reschedule it out a week. The day after they were supposed to come, our AC goes out which just so happened to be during a five day period of 80 degree days. So we wait another week for them to come out. The technician first finds that the blower switch in the furnace is burned out and we pay $990 for that. After fixing that he checks the AC and says its now burned out because the blower had burned out. He tells me someone will call to schedule a visit to quote it out. We wait a day for their sales guy to call to schedule a visit to quote but never calls, so I end up calling them to ask where my quote is. We make an appointment for three days later. The day the salesman is supposed to come out, he calls to move the appointment out by three days. My wife calls back to complain and they send out someone else that day to keep the original appointment. We find out that the original sales guy moved our appointment because he wanted to leave work early on Friday to go golfing. This tells me they're making enough money that their leisure sports are now a priority over their income. Since I"m mad that I keep getting pushed out and not made a priority from Vanderhyde despite being a loyal customer and paying for their annual service plan (they sell it to you by saying you're made a priority over those who don't pay for this plan) I call someone else. My second AC guy comes out, finds the device Vanderhyde replaced the week before and shows me the part that burned out and says he would've just replaced the part not the whole piece. So I find out Vanderhyde replaces whole parts for $990 instead of fixing the burned out fuse for $100. What a rip off, no wonder they can move customers who are without AC so they can go golfing. My second AC guy quoted me a new AC compressor that was $1600 less than the Vanderhyde quote for a 14seer 5ton. WOW! I will never use this company again because they don't fix things just replace things that are hugely marked up, and they don't prioritize their customers comfort over their own leisure. read more
