Idk who this is, manager or regular employee but she was extremely rude to me and it was my first time coming to this hall and keep in mind I live almost 2 hours away. She wanted me to wait back in the buy in line to purchase premium strips not excluded in buy in. It was a very long line I had to wait in and she wanted me to WAIT back in that line when I already waited to get my buy in . She rolled her eyes at me and made a grunting sound as if I was a bother to her. RUDE AF. The hall over all is pretty good. It's big, has a kitchen and sells a LOT of flash. So be prepared to bring a good amount of cash. They do also have premium strips that have high paying pay outs. Vending machine available, ice machine and water available. Food in the kitchen is alright. They do at times have a food truck outside that sells tacos. I do like the hall. Really just sucks that the person pictured was rude to me and made my energy down going into the game.

Everyone was very pleasant and took care of all of our needs. It was very busy, but they still made time to get to everybody.

Ask the Community - Vanguard Bingo

How much does it cost per game?

I'm not sure what the cost is, only because we usually get just the machines and not the paper. I believe it is $50 if I remember correctly. Also, they do not take credit/debit cards so be prepared to have cash with you. If you forget, there is… Read more

Game play is just as intense and exciting as the charity bingo hall around the corner, fast paced, strict policies (better be quick to yell out bingo if you win!), lots of opportunities for cash prizes, friendly helpful people all around, and about 3-4 hours of bingo fun! Though the payouts are lower at St. John's ($100 payouts for early bird games, $200 payouts for regular games, plus $50 increase per game on the last Monday of the month), the buy-in is lower as well. As of July 2024, buy-in is $25, then $5 per game set after that. Each set (one pack) has 15 bingo sheets consisting of 5 early bird games and 10 regular games. Each sheet in the set has 6 bingo boards. The bingo games have quite a range of patterns throughout the evening in order to win, like "small crazy kite" or "postage stamps", and who knew that hitting all four corners on the board counts as a bingo!?! Thank goodness they also provide an easy-to-follow instruction sheet, so you know what you're playing and you don't miss anything, since the game goes quickly. Workers/volunteers also walk around selling flash, strip, cherry bell, and other special games. We got a few flash cards (kinda like scratchers, but cheaper with lower winnings)... won a buck total from 10 cards, lol. A food truck on site allows participants to enjoy some dinner or snacks while playing. We grabbed a couple tacos from the mexican food truck outside during one of the breaks, and it was pretty good. The event is open to ages 18 and over, though the crowd looks like mainly 50 and older. Even being some of the youngest players there, we fit in just fine and had a pleasant time at bingo night... will be back to win more than a dollar next time.

We arrived about 15 minutes before start time, but with parking being difficult (the lot was quite full) and having to wait in a short line for buy in, we didn't sit down till a few minutes before start time. And being given a large stack of bingo sheets/cards, didn't know what to do. Luckily the guy next to us was a regular and helped us out. Once they start, they go fast, and if you miss something or don't call out bingo quickly enough, you're out of luck. We got the minimum package on a Sunday evening ($80 per person, for two of us). Each sheet had 5 bingo sets on it (numbers only, no letters), and you play several sheets at a time, so yeah, you gotta pay attention and be quick to mark your cards. Luckily there are large clear screens where you can see the numbers called during each game until it's reset for the next game, but still you gotta be quick so I wouldn't rely on that to play catch up. To win, you need to get a bingo (3 in a row) for all 5 sets on one sheet before calling out "bingo", unless there are different instructions for a specific game. When we went, there were about 10-12 games throughout the night (more if you purchased extra), hence the stack of cards in the beginning, and it lasted about 3 hours including an 8 minute intermission. We didn't win, but it was fun (once we got the hang of it). The place had a casual atmosphere, older crowd (we were probably the youngest people there), everyone seemed to be friendly enough, mainly just minding their own business, and lots of hardcore bingo-ers! There were restrooms, coffee, and vending machines on site. The service was efficient, we didn't encounter any problems with staff, and there were plenty of workers/volunteers walking around during the games selling extra cards. If you want a chance to win some extra cash, this is a fun way to do it, and if you don't win, at least you know your money is going to charity. Also, gotta love the colorful themed bingo cards (ie. Betty Boop, and Popeye the Sailor).

They do it purely for the competition and experience and the camraderie. DCI is a wonderful combination of athleticism and art. I first fell in love with DCI and the Santa Clara Vanguard when I was in high school in 1989. That year, the Vanguard won the DCI World Championships with the highest final score in history, 98.80, which has since been eclipsed. They won with a positively moving performance of pieces from The Phantom of the Opera. I was hooked after that, although I'm sure it had to do with the fact that I was in marching band. I've been a huge fan ever since, and growing up in LA, I was excited to be in the Bay Area where two of the top drum corps in the tnation were nearby (Concord Blue Devils and the Santa Clara Vanguard). I was cycling on Central one day in April2005 and heard music playing, and imagine my elation when I see the Vanguard practicing on a nearby field. The Vanguard are regarded as one of the best drum corps in history, having been the only corps to be in the finals every year since they started in 1972. In those 35 years, the Vanguard have won the championship 6 times. They were once known for performing musicals, but they mostly perform avant garde and contemporary music.
