This is a hidden gem! I love Vanity Belle, and will absolutely refer all my friends and family to get themselves beautified here! I visited their other location in OC when I was getting ready for my high school reunion. My review is posted on their page there. So when I heard that they were opening a La Jolla location, I was so excited to visit them there, a little closer to my house. I was in on Saturday to get eyelash extensions, Lily worked with my schedule to book it at a convenient time, and the whole experience was fabulous. Lily took the time to make sure that the style of lash was what I wanted, I explained that I didn't want it to be like "oh, you have fake eyelashes on!" I wanted them to look somewhat natural, but longer and fuller of course, but not too fake looking. She did a great job, I love the lashes and it's cut down on my morning make-up routine by a few minutes which is nice. The shop is on Prospect, lots of cute shopping nearby, it would be a great place to go with a girlfriend for a day of pampering...but just one girlfriend. It's a small location. Parking can be tricky depending on when you are booked, so give yourself extra time to arrive for your appt in case you have to park further than expected. Treat yourself to an appt (and check in on yelp for a nice surprise!) you will not be disappointed. Vanity Belle is the best! read more

Dannielle from Vanity Belle did me and my bridesmaids' hair for my wedding, and it could not have been more perfect. She was super personable and friendly, too, which made hanging out with her all day fun! I'm from out of town, but they were kind enough to schedule my trial run the morning before the wedding at 8am before the studio normally opens. The little studio is super cute, and I'm sad I don't live in La Jolla because I would love to go more often! Dannielle was very creative and did a great work product, listening to what I or each girl wanted and tweaking the result if there was any input. We were dealing with the bridal quite not being ready on time in the morning so we were running late all day, but Dannielle gained back her time and had time to do touch ups at the end. This review is not technically for this location, but I wanted to update my review. I ended up going to the Orange County location after the owner Victoria contacted me after the no show at the San Diego wedding I was attending. She told me that behavior was unheard of and not tolerated and wanted a chance to make it up to me. I had a wedding in Long Beach a month later that they offered to comp my hair and makeup services for, which was incredibly generous. Amanda did my hair (she was so sweet!) and Lauren did my makeup. I got to try airbrushed makeup for the first time, which I am now a huge fan of. It stayed all night. Unfortunately, my left eye's eyelashes fell off pretty early at the wedding (right after the ceremony) so I had to pull the other side off too. What a fantastic little gem in LJ! Beware, they are a "hidden" gem for sure. They are located across the street from Georges in the International Building. Lots of little businesses in there. They are across from the deli in the back. Gorgeous decor, think fresh, clean, GLAM! Crystal chandeliers, mirror and silver accents. Minimalistic feel but warm and pretty. Large flowered wall, literally huge flowers on the wall (not real). Two stations and a bench so we are talking small space but what they did with it was incredible. I walked in and was greeted by the gorgeous Alayna, my stylist and only FT employee that you'll find there daily. She is so sweet and kind. She asked me if I wanted some Champs, who can turn that down? She made me comfortable, checked to see if I needed the heat on, if I was warm enough etc. Hung my scarf. Then down to biz we went. Talked about what I was looking for. Gave me a nice head massage and a great lathered shampoo and conditioner. She sectioned me well and then went to work on blowing me out. Asked about product which was nice before she dumped everything on the shelf on me. I do like a lot of product and know that my blow out will last longer if I use it. (I have been a stylist myself for 30 yrs) I gave her carte blanche to do what she thought would look good. I loved it. Left with a part down the middle, talked about different options since I've been thinking about a change of style. Not much I can change if I don't want to go short but she was super cool, and helpful. Sweet girl to talk to. She didn't pressure me into buying products, was thoughtful and experienced. I really want to put it out there so she can build a nice business for herself in LJ. She loves to cut AND COLOR, so if you are thinking about trying something new, please go see her. Parking can be hard on Prospect, so be patient. She's worth it. I also have to mention that Jonathon (the owner) was more than helpful and he is so nice! I had made an appointment, then changed it twice! He was more than understanding and knew it was me the second I called. I never felt like he was irritated. We actually laughed about it. They also have 3 stylists and 2 make-up artists on staff that are on call. They love to do group events, weddings, and even a group of girls wanting to have a salon day with Champs, make-up and blow-outs. You can book it ahead of time and they will have the stylists come in, or even GO TO YOU! I also love the fact that this is a family run business, Jonathon and his wife (a former make-up artist herself). I believe the customer service doesn't get lost this way. Everyone at Valente is incredibly sweet and talented! Danielle has done my hair a few times now and done a great job with color, cut, and extensions. I was upset after another local salon dyed my hair dark brown bc she "thought it would be better this way" when I had asked for just a light toner on my blonde hair. I found everything I needed, but still had a few questions. I got in touch with the owner, Jonathan Nino, and he was VERY responsive. Anytime I emailed him within the one year up until my big day, he was getting back to me very fast, which was awesome. I also requested to pick my artists for my trial (they're typically assigned to you) after looking at the San Diego locations artists IG pages and he allowed me to do so which I really appreciate. I had my trial on NYE so I could use my hair/makeup look for my fun night out. I had Dannielle for hair and Taylor for makeup and they were both AWESOME! So fun to talk to, so sweet, so funny, they worked great together. I was super confident in my choice and loved how they worked with me to make sure I was happy with how everything looked. 7 months after my trial was my wedding day and we ended having more people than initially anticipated so we hired a third artist Amber. Although she didn't work on me personally, I was blown away by the artistry on the faces and hair she did on my bridal party/moms! Dannielle and Taylor were super fun to be around during the wedding of my morning, they were chatting with everyone, they were on time and professional, and they made us all look and feel absolutely beautiful. I'm so happy I found Vanity Belle. I literally found them about 3 weeks before my wedding and they were able to accommodate a hair trial appointment quickly. I had no idea what I wanted so I ended up getting 2 hair trials with the lovely Dannielle Robeson. Idk where to start with her, she is soooo sweet and told me I'm allowed to be picky because it's my wedding day. The first hair trial she did I loved but later realized I wanted to try a different look. We did a second hair trial and It clicked.. I wanted a combination of hair trials 1 and 2. Dannielle showed up the day of my wedding and styled my hair the way I envisioned it. It was so lovely I loved it so much. Boutique was set up nice, she offered me tea, a nice chatt, and good company. I will be returning for any hair style I want next. 1 year ago I got lucky and booked Emily Hardinger last minute for my sister's wedding banquet make up- she was so nice and her make up turned out so well (without even a trial!), that I booked her for my wedding this year. I live on the east coast so I had to do my make up trial 3 days before my wedding and right before the wedding I was having major allergies (yikes!)- Emily was SO attentive and listened to what I wanted.. she wanted to make sure I was 100% happy with my make up. Plus, she had great advice on taking care of my skin and eyes. The day of the wedding, my make up and bridesmaids came out so beautiful!!! Emily went above and beyond to me- she was responsive through texts/emails, spent extra time with me during my trial, and executed everything flawlessly on the day of the wedding. I also want to leave a review for Brittany Emmett - who I actually wound up meeting the day of the wedding since I didn't have enough time to have a hair trial with her. All I did was show her some pictures of hair do I liked, and she also offered her input on what she thought would work well for me. I wasn't sure if my hair would braid and sit quite like I wanted (I have very thick and wild hair), but she assured me she could do it. She- just like Emily- wanted to make sure we were all completely happy with our hair- she stayed over time to do our touch ups and make sure my bangs sit just right! I'm not even sure how she tamed my wild hair with the updo I wanted, but it turned out absolutely BEAUTIFUL and it stayed throughout the whole night (I had an outdoor wedding too!). This review is a bit overdue and I wasn't even going to write one, but I am still so surprised by the service I experienced here since they have such outstanding reviews that I felt I needed to share my experience. I came here in September for a hair and make up trial for my upcoming wedding. I brought my mom with me because we wanted to make a whole day of it with lunch and whatnot afterwards. We arrived at 9:00am for my appointment and the salon is super cute and well designed. I was greeted by Tanya and Deborah who seemed sweet enough. Tanya started on my hair and while it seemed to start off alright, after a while went by I could tell this was not going to work out. I brought clip-in extensions with me and after trying to attach them a few times, they still were falling out and yanking my real hair with them. I am pretty shy when it comes to speaking up in these types of situations and my mom knows this, so when she could tell I wasn't happy with something, she said something. Tanya ended up getting a bit snippy with her and I could tell my mom felt uncomfortable the rest of the appointment. At the end of my hair, Tanya knew I wasn't pleased with it, but she said we could work on it later... when later? I'm not about to just have faith that we'll figure it out the day of my wedding... I then moved to another chair for my make up with Deborah (which I learned wasn't started earlier because she was waiting on her makeup kit to be delivered...which was not a problem for me since we did have a two hour appointment slot and we still had about an hour left of our appointment). Deborah was very sweet and her personality definitely saved the appointment for me, but even her personality couldn't make the make up application look presentable. Tanya was apparently in a hurry to leave to do her "besties" hair, so she turned the air conditioner off. The salon is by the beach, but it is a tiny salon and with 4 people in there it got heated quickly. The air conditioner said it was 83 degrees in the room and my make up was literally falling off. I could tell Deborah was doing everything in her power to fix it, but with no luck. My mom finally commented that it probably wasn't working out since it was suddenly so hot in there with the air off...to which Tanya had a comeback for as well. Maybe it just wasn't her day? I don't know, but I don't feel like with a wedding trial the client and her mom should be made to feel uncomfortable and rushed. Oh and we did have some champagne while we were there, which once I switched over to the makeup chair, Tanya took mine and my mom's glasses and spilled half of it out while she was cleaning up getting ready to obviously leave. Tanya left for a few minutes and Deborah offered us more champagne, to which we said sure since half our glasses were spilt out anyway...Tanya came back and wasn't too thrilled that the glasses she'd cleaned were used again. And once again I felt like Deborah was trying to save this appointment... I really ended up feeling bad for her and both of these stars are for her. We ended up leaving my appointment at the exact 2 hour mark, which is the allotted time for the appointment. I sent an email to the owner, Jonathan, explaining everything that happened at my appointment. He was somewhat apologetic and said that he would deal with it, but then went on to ask if I would still like to hire Deborah for my wedding... Yes, she was nice, but like I told him, my makeup ended up looking awful because it was falling off my face and smearing everywhere... Maybe if he had offered another trial with different providers that would have been one thing, but he didn't really say anything. I told my wedding planner about what happened at the trial since she referred them to me because she uses their Orange County location sometimes. She was very surprised by the service and the way the owner handled it. I showed her a picture from the trial and she too said it didn't look good (especially for a wedding) and it looked as if I had been spending hours dancing at the reception because my makeup was smeared all over and my hair was flat and lifeless. read more

They arrived early at our hotel for set up and were able to finish our large group in a timely matter, with hair and make up that stayed in place and looked gorgeous all day!
