I go to Vanity to get my hair cut and colored by one of the stylists, Sarah Allard, and I have never had any complaints. I always walk out of Vanity with my hair looking exactly how I pictured it would look. Sarah is also very friendly and always makes my appointments enjoyable. So Vanity gets a 5 out of 5 in the hair department. With my eighth grade graduation coming up, and me looking quite pale, I decided that a healthy and quick tanning option would be spray tanning. I did a lot of research and talked to family and friends that have had spray tans before. I mentioned my thoughts about a spray tan to Sarah and she said that they do spray tans at Vanity, so we made an appointment. Despite my investigations on spray tans, I was still a little scared that I would walk out of my appointment looking like Snooki. I also wasn't very excited about being half-naked in front of someone that I had never met before. I had many concerns, so my mom and I called Vanity and talked to Ingrid, the technician that would be doing my spray tan. She was very nice and very patient with us, and by the time I walked into Vanity on the day of my first appointment, I was completely confident. One thing that is great about the spray tans at Vanity is that they use the Aviva Labs formula. This formula is water based and only has 12 or 13 ingredients, so it is healthier than other formulas. Also, it is personalized to your skin tone, so you can look your best. After my first appointment, I went home and realized that I had forgotten about how the neckline on the dress looked, so once again we called Vanity and told Ingrid about our issue. She got me back in immediately and did a whole second coat for free. She couldn't have been more apologetic for something that wasn't even her fault. On graduation night, I got many compliments about how glowing and tan I looked. I also felt extremely confident and beautiful. My friends said that they wouldn't have even known it was a spray tan if I hadn't told them. I looked how I naturally look at the end of summer. So obviously, Vanity also gets a 5 out of 5 in the spray tans department. I have now developed a love for spray tans thanks to Ingrid giving me such a wonderful first experience. Both Sarah and Ingrid do a wonderful job of following through with Heidi's (the owner) ideas on how to create a great look through listening to the customer and understanding what they really want. The owner of this "High End" salon is a JOKE!!!!! (There is nothing high end about her or half her staff). I was a client here for over a year and over the recent months I couldn't find a new salon fast enough. Thankfully she was not my stylist and I will miss my stylist and soaking up the sun in the front window. The atmosphere that the owner and half her staff provide is nothing even close to high end, not even middle of the road. If your into gossip and drama then this is the right place for you. You will know everyones business as well as every issue this woman has w everything and everyone. My hair schedule unfortunately seemed to sync up to the owners and I was never relaxed while getting my hair done, She is loud and inappropriate you can't help but hear her. Vanity was an awesome place for my bridal party! I got married at the Sheraton on NYE 2016, and I picked Vanity based only on location, but I am so glad I did! The salon was awesome! They were so easy to work with for scheduling, which was key since I was an out-of-state bride. They were very understanding and accommodating to any and all changes. All of my bridesmaids got their hair and makeup done, as well as both moms. My mom, who doesn't let anyone touch her hair, changed her mind after seeing Kendra do my hair. Kendra was amazing! And Elizabeth, the manager, adjusted our schedule flawlessly. Despite these changes, we never felt rushed and go out of the salon perfectly on time. Cody did all of the airbrush makeup, and he was fantastic. He made me feel truly beautiful on my wedding day. The salon was also a great environment for a bridal party. They had coffee, tea, and plenty of mimosas ready for us, plus they let us bring in our own snacks so we wouldn't be starving during pictures later. For starters I would not be writing a review for vanity hair studio had the check not been cancelled for my contracting services provided to the build out performed. I worked long days and nights upon the completion to get salon opened as soon as possible. Had just finished working like 18 hrs straight and owner flips out on me screaming to get the f out of there there is customers coming in meanwhile no occupancy was approved by town yet. Then threatens to call the cops while freaking out accusing me of sleeping there overnight which I was actually working tirelessly to finish a lengthy project that had no plan to work off of . All done on the fly! She decided to cancel a check for portion of Bill that was owed in the amount of 4k! Still to this day has not made it right and paid what was well earned and deserved with the rude and unprofessional ways that owner went about handling and making sure the contractor was taken care of for there services as they went above and beyond considering the circumstances. Hi have been working with heidi since I was 16. I have seen her grow from level 1 all the way up to owning her own business. She is very determined Heidi has never let me down. When the time came to get married I knew i was in great hands. I had 6 girls with all different types of hair styles that needed to be done. She managed very well with time as well as the different styles the girls wanted. Heidi is also very well experianced and very well organized. I use all of her services and would HIGHLY recomend her or her company to others. I also used Ingrid for my make up, as well as my girls used her as well. She was amazing. I decided to wait a week after my appointment to write a review, just to make sure everything with my hair was still good. This salon is honestly one of the best salons I have ever been to. At the time of my appointment last week, I was a full, very light blonde. I have very long, thick hair and I was wanting to go back to my original, natural color which is a light brown. Grace totally transformed my hair. She was very kind to me throughout my appointment and spent a lot of time making sure she had the right shade of brown for my natural color. She made me feel confident that it was going to turn out okay despite my worries. Surprisingly, the time it took to complete my hair was just over 2 hours, the fastest I had ever experienced. I cannot recommend this place enough. Being from out of town, I researched about 5 salons several months ago for hair and make up for my son's wedding. As soon as I walked in I was sure this would be the place I wanted to spend my wedding day morning. Bright, open, clean and calm, that's the setting I wanted. I only met Heidi and her staff this week but they made my day exactly what I had hoped. I arrived with a grandmother, flower girl and aunt. To begin we were greeted and welcomed to sit, grab a beverage and relax while they finished last minute preparations for the day. We each had various hair stylings some with wash and blow out, an updo, braids etc.... Heidi expertly applied my makeup and eyelashes. I am told I looked stunning. I was walking around downtown Portsmouth when I stumbled upon Deer St. I never knew this cute little street even existed. I stopped in a couple shops and noticed a bright little salon. I had time to kill and I haven't been happy with my last two haircuts. So I stopped in. The salon is really girly and cute. The girls there are really welcoming. One stylist had time for me. Her name is Lindsay. After talking with her a bit I was a little nervous that she had only been there a month. She assured me that she had been doing hair for years. After I told her what I was looking for she totally got it! She cut my hair with a straight razor, which I have never had before. I have a new fun funky hair cut that I love! It's hard to cut my hair because it's long and very thin. I'm in love with my hair and it didn't cost me half a paycheck! I can't wait for my next appointment! read more

Heidi and staff are excellent with communication, passionate about what they do, and made me and my bridesmaids feel right at home. My sister in law and I were in town for a wedding, so we wanted to get our hair done. I found Vanity Salon online and took a chance, since it was so close to our hotel. The owner Heidi, washed and blew out our hair and did SUCH a wonderful job, as well as gave us tips on how to maintain and get our hair done in the future at our regular stylists. She did an AMAZING job on both of us!! I am actually considering making the 6 hour drive 3-4 times a year just to have her do my hair. I have hard to manage curly hair and am having a difficult time finding a stylist in my own area that understands how to handle curly unruly hair. I had the best experience at this salon. I have been living in New Hampshire for the past 5 years, but have been scared to try a new hair stylist. I would always get my hair done when I went home on college breaks. After getting a referral here from a friend, I could not be happier. Kendra transformed my brassy, streaky highlighted hair to a very natural, and fun ombre style. I had been searching for a new salon in the Portsmouth area after my stylist in Salem, NH cut down her hours and I couldn't work with her new schedule. Wonderful salon and stylists! Made an appointment for a haircut and balayage last Saturday. Jackie did an amazing job...I've never been so happy after getting my haircut!
