Vanni's Jazz Lounge makes for a fun evening out in Rochester. Our group had a great time visiting during the first set of live jazz music from 5pm-8pm. Vanni's is located in The Inn on Broadway and upon entering you will see an elegantly decorated lobby; walk down the stair to find a book case which may contain a secret entrance to the lounge. I don't want to spoil the gimmick, but it's very charming and our group had fun with this detail. The lounge is spacious with a select amount of table seating and couches. We chose the bar in case the music was loud. The decor and lighting helped make for an immersive setting. The design features stood out and we loved the look of the lounge. The performers we saw were enjoyable, though we were hoping for something a little more lively. I ordered The University Club cocktail. The drink was delicious and picture perfect. The bartenders made us feel at ease and were fun to chat with. We didn't try any of the small plates on our visit, but this is an option. Plenty of free parking is available. If you want to have a unique night out in Rochester give Vanni's a try.

Vanni's is a relatively new addition to The Inn On Broadway, a speakeasy lounge on the lower level featuring live jazz music. Since it is a speakeasy, you don't get in automatically, you have to pass a simple test... but don't worry, you're given enough hints to accomplish this, just have fun getting it done. Once you're inside, you definitely feel that speakeasy ambiance. You have a nice variety of seats, including at the bar, plush sofas along the walls, and tables closer to the stage. If you're not sitting at the bar, you still order everything there, and things will be brought to you. Their specialty cocktails are quite good, with several interesting riffs on classics. If I had a cast-iron liver, I'd try them all. Small plates and sweet treats are also available. If you're staying at The Inn, this is a definite must-visit. There are many cocktail bars in the area a short walk or drive away, but why do that if you're already here? Save the time you would have spent traveling for more quality time here.

I really liked the ambience and commitment to the book theme. I didn't have any food, just drinks but the drinks were good and the band that played was pretty good as well. Also really liked the speakeasy vibe when you enter.

While planning our dinner party months in advance, the communication from Janine was excellent. She helped us develop a 4-course menu that was sure to have something for everyone, including vegan and allergy friendly options. Amy was our server for the evening, and she ensured we had everything we needed to enjoy our evening. The chairs in the Meyer's Den are wide and comfortable, the decor is dark and classy, and being in the basement away from the dining room made it very quiet and easy to converse with family. The room is rather spacious for 12 guests, but could also accommodate a few more people without feeling cramped. Out of the appetizers we selected, the Charred Octopus was very popular and everyone enjoyed it...even those that had never previously eaten octopus. The baby cauliflower dish was also a beautiful presentation, and quite large and enjoyable. The salads, particularly the Charred Hurricane salad, were nice light courses before the entree was served. As for the entrees, the filet mignon was a little on the dry side, but we really enjoyed the light and crispy spinach fritters that accompanied the beef. The salmon was a generous portion of medium rare fish, and there was lot going on with that dish - spicy cauliflower and za'atar potatoes that had some mixed reviews. Folks who ordered the duck breast seemed to enjoy the complex preparation, which had asparagus, green beans, and two pureed sauces - cauliflower ginger and cherry-rhubarb. The doughnut bread pudding with apple pieces and vanilla ice cream was a delicious, decadent way to end the meal. We left rather stuffed, and delighted with the overall experience that allowed our family to celebrate together.

For appetizers, we got the roasted beets and the bone marrow. Both were good. I got the duck breast for entree and my friends got the carrot cavatelli and lobster bucatini. We all enjoyed our dishes. The duck was succulent and roasted just enough. The Brussel sprouts that came on the side were a disappointment though. For dessert, I ordered ricotta pine nut tart with lemon sorbet. The tart was very subtle in flavor but good. My friends ordered the bread pudding which was great as well. Overall, very satisfied with the food and service. Can be back!

The bar has what I look for - interesting crafted cocktails (including specials), a good liquor selection, and fun people behind the bar with whom to engage. I can understand why my friends liked the place. We did have some food here, but I'm more enamored with the drinks. We ordered hummus, which was supposed to come with bread (they say naan, I think it was pita, but that's fine) and veggies. It did come out with the bread. When we asked about the veggies, we were given 2 different answers by 2 different people. One implied folks didn't always want them, another said the chef forgot and apologized. The hummus had an unexpected flavor, and when I checked the fine print on the menu it says, "chefs choice flavor." We didn't order anything else here, but we saw several orders of wings go by, and they looked really good too. On a Saturday afternoon, get here early, because if can fill up quickly.
