I was sitting at my table for about 15 minutes while everyone else was being served (even people who arrived after I did). So I yelled to him (yes, I yelled) and after that he was more attentive. I ordered pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes and no veggies. The pork was tender and the potatoes were good. There was a lot of jam so I ended up scraping it off and pushing to the side. Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on the corner of Dundas and Talbot is this gem. It's pretty much a sports bar with a stage for when there's live music or a DJ present! You have to stay tuned to their social media pages and website for that information. Once in the door you're brought immediately to the bar area which is pretty big and full of giant TVs all over the place. As you make your way further into the restaurant you'll walk past the complimentary popcorn machine and leave the bar area as you enter the main dining room. Further back is where the live music would be. It wasn't terribly loud, but it seemed like it may have been a slow night. Service: Mia took excellent care of me. She was sweet, fast, thorough and made sure that I had everything that I needed! Jay is also the owner so be sure to say hi to him. Food: Throughout my 2 visits here to Fitzray's I was able to try several things, so I'll break them down individually. Here goes. Strip Steak Appetizer: So this is a New York strip cut and sautéed with garlic butter and red wine then served with a garlic aioli as well as a chipotle sauce. The steak was very tender, seasoned well and the sauces were perfect complements to the steak. Fish & Chips: So this is 6 oz. of beer-battered haddock loin on a bed of fries. Classic. I LOVED this dish more than I expected to. This place is actually known for this dish and I see why. The fish was super flakey, flavorful and there isn't much more to say. It's such a simple straightforward dish that's done so well. Maple Bacon Dry Rub Wings: So the wings here are breaded, like a THICK, fluffy breading that I wouldn't normally enjoy, but it didn't bother me on any of the wings. These were crispy, the meat fell off the bone and these tasted like if the syrup from your pancakes or waffles touched your bacon. Lol. I hope that makes sense. Hot Honey Wings: These were Mia's favorite flavor so I had to try these out. These was a lot of good Buffalo flavor right up front with just a bit of sweetness on the back end that was a supporting character in this wing's story. Suicide Wings: So this is the HOTTEST flavor that the restaurant offers. The heat comes in a little late and continues to build for a LONG time. These are no joke, but I could handle them. Lol. Deliciously saucy. Mango Habanero Dry Rub Wings: Super flavorful, smokey, peppery, spicy with a good fruity flavor. Value: Excellent. It's pub fare, so it's not meant to be super expensive here, but the drinks will certainly sneak up on you. You can also get a pound of wings for $9.00 CAD during their #WingWednesday special which runs all day and again on Sundays. You can also get that same deal every night after 8:00pm. In conclusion, I loved this place and I'm very happy that I had the opportunity to check this place out. They were professional and assured in their communications with me which was appreciated, even if my senses didn't match their convictions. The polenta with beef tenderloin tips was amazing. The polenta was creamy and well-flavored and the flavor was a cheese flavor that was balanced nicely the brightness of the tomatoes. The cook and tenderness on the beef tips was amazing! The mussels with microfrites was problematic: the mussels were dried up, and overly salty and in general overcooked. The microfrites were overcooked as well, tasting burnt despite being nicely crispy. The seafood bourride came off as a tad too sweet, without enough differentiation in textures. The monkfish itself had a nice texture, but the shrimp was overcooked. The steelhead trout special was decent, particularly the zucchini and rice pilaf sides. The trout itself was a tad too stiff, and for the price wished that it was a tad fresher. It was labeled as "Catch of the Day" but the freshness on the fish itself didn't match the label. The duck with cannellini beans was quite amazing if a tad rich. The cook on the duck was perfect, so tender, and the beans with the arugula added a nice touch of balance with the richness of the duck. The salt content could have been lessened. The Canadian bacon - I wasn't sure what effect it was supposed to have on the meal - just added saltiness to an already heavily-seasoned dish. The service was amazing, always responding to specific questions we had about the dishes and noted dietary restrictions as well. Couple of comments about the architecture and the space: the table was a bit small for the number of dishes we ordered, and it got really dark to the point that I couldn't see the food past sunset. The proprietors should consider placing a light on that side of the restaurant. It gets really noisy when crowded. The carrot cake dessert was super textbook classic carrot cake, executed to classical perfection. I probably should have abstained because it was super sweet, but it was undeniably delicious. This seems to be an establishment with big aspirations, a generally fun location to meet with friends and family, in a neighborhood that's in the midst of a boom.
