A friendly bartender at Up-Down Arcade Bar (another must-visit!) told us about this place, mentioning it's one of the few bars open 24 hours on the weekend. Naturally, curiosity won. From the jump, this place had character. There's a bouncer at the door, a makeshift elevated DJ booth to the right where you have to pay cash for a "membership." Don't worry -- there's an ATM conveniently behind the booth, ready to charge you a nice little convenience fee if you didn't bring cash. The membership lasts a year, but still, that was a first for me. Inside? Small. Crowded. Lively. And at 1 AM, there was a guy passed out in a chair right by the entrance -- with his dog roaming freely around the bar. I honestly couldn't make this up if I tried. The bartenders were solid -- fast, cool, and trying their best to keep up with the rush. There's a selection of local beers (pretty good ones too) and two pool tables... well, technically one, since they only had one cue ball. The pool sticks? Ancient relics. The bathroom? I'll spare you the visuals. Outside was much more breathable. There was a local guy named Walter -- from Georgia, of all places -- selling BBQ. Cool dude. The turkey wing was a little tough, but his attitude made up for it. Now, the real highlights? The people and the atmosphere. You've got folks eavesdropping on your conversations, tossing around racially backed jokes at me (that I politely corrected), a row of chain-smokers out front, and a woman openly asking for cigarettes or change that may have been homeless, but was definitely a crackhead and she so eloquently vocalized. It's a gritty and downright raw type of place, but somehow, it works. There wasn't any live music when we came, but I'm sure that's what makes this place shine more than it already does in its own unique way. I'll definitely be back for a performance night. Upon my arrival I noticed a very low selection of liquor, draft beer, or customers. The only customers I saw in the bar were two people playing pool. I asked the bartender about tequila. He asked me if I wanted a shot without telling me what was available or if that's what i wanted, which makes me think there is not much of a selection. Before I could ask what type of tequila there was to drink or ask what type of mixers the bar had, which I don't think there was much mixers to choose from by how empty the bar looked, the bartender then proceeded to ask me if I was "messed up". I drink rarely and take no medication. At this moment I hadn't had a drink in short of a week. He then proceeded to tell me that I was slurring my words, although that was definitely not true. He refused to serve me. I've been to bars all across the United States and this is the first time I've ever been refused to be served, especially before my first drink. He didn't ask how I was doing, if I was meeting friends, if i was planning on driving home, or getting a ride from someone. The bartender decided I was "messed up" within 30 seconds of me being in the bar. If a bartender can't tell the difference between someone who is 110% sober and "messed up", while making that decision within 30 seconds of a customer entering the bar, then that bartender should be looking for a new profession. I'm not quite sure if he was insinuating that I had been drinking, taking to much medication,or using recreational drugs, but none was the case. Maybe this is the type of bar where people often arrive to inebriated to get served or the bartender prefers locals and refuses service to others.I'm not certain this is the situation, but regardless it's extremely unprofessional and the bartender was absolutely wrong and unjustified. I will never be returning to this establishment and would recommend avoiding this bar. The next time I'm in this town I'll be sure to go elsewhere. I wouldn't return to this bar if it was the only one in town!

The bartender wasn't friendly... she had my aunts drink sitting in ice for a while before finishing it and she gave a little attitude when asked to redo it. It's an interesting mix of people. Retired frat guys playing pool, usually an odd wedding party, a couple of resident characters in leotards. It's like a watering hole in the Safari, lots of different cats intermingling. It's fantastic. True to its name, it does remind me of New Orleans. The ominous folding table and chairs in the parking lot with ashtrays is hilarious. Truly a liminal space if you open your mind to that. Inside is warm and decorated with memorabilia/paraphernalia of bar nights past. We did karaoke with Connie. We had the premie baby (vodka or gin, on ice, in a giant pickle jar). You're not bar-hopping if you're coming here. This is your final destination of the night. Prepare for that. It was somehow near 3am when we left, and the room had not cleared out a bit.
