PROS: Convenient location & full hookups. CONS: They charged a "Fee - Reservation Surcharge of $2.00" What is that? We did not make reservations, we're traveling through, saw the sign and came in, the campground was over half empty, why would you charge an additional $2.00? Strangest experience at Vantage this year... if you had asked me last year I may have rated 2 or 3 stars based on the tiny tent sites that literally fit one medium size tent and one car, the absolutely horrid bathrooms that reek of sewage, and the store that frequently runs out of basic camping amenities such as ice and wood. Despite the paltry offerings I have remained loyal to Vantage as a quieter and more relaxing alternative to the party atmosphere at other sites during concert weekends at the Gorge Amphitheater for the past 10+ years. To give perspective of the patronage myself and others in my group have given this campground, consider that for 10+ years for me and 15+ years for others in our group we consistently book between 6 and 12 sites for 4 consecutive nights 1-2 times per year. That amounts to well over $20,000 in business over the years. Here is the part where an average experience turns sour. Now mind you that more than half, perhaps even three-quarters of the campers at the campground are concert goers, which means a return to camp around Midnight. Staff even monitors the premises and greets you as you return to check wristbands and ensure those arriving are indeed campers who've paid for a site at Vantage- which does make me feel safe and secure leaving gear unattended. On Saturday night this year we were among the first campers to return from the show and promptly started a small campfire and sang happy birthday to a friend. Shortly thereafter as dozens of other campers were returning from the show a gentleman (I use the term loosely) arrived on a golf cart to firmly and aggressively ask us to keep the noise down as we were disturbing other campers. As he rode his cart into the darkness we all looked at each completely dumbfounded because most of our neighbors were also just returning to camp - driving in - opening/closing car doors etc...or had yet to return. Car engines and doors were certainly louder than our campfire. Oh well...we attributed it to the 30 second of birthday wishes and with a conscious effort to remain very quiet we continued making s'mores, had a beer and prepared for bed... far from what anyone could describe as loud/obnoxious. Unbelievably, not even 10 minutes later the same employee returned on his golf cart to give us an insolent 2nd warning. Upon our departure Monday morning the owner of the campground (Brian?) paid a visit to our camp to inform us that our inebriated behavior would not be tolerated and we should strongly consider whether or not this is the place for us to camp in the future. WOW! Over the past decade I have seen many and admittedly been a part of a "party" camp at other locations and other events... that is just simply not why we choose Vantage. If we wanted to party we would camp at the Gorge or Wildhorse... It literally felt like we were being shamed for being awake past midnight. What's next - a locked gate with no entry past 10pm? read more

We stayed here last year and again last weekend. They have spots down close to the river full hookups. Awesome location being right on the river. Met the owner as he was installing the dump pipes so it can be full hookups. It was really windy but so worth the view. There are about 9 sites and only two other than us were there so it was nice and peaceful. Owner is very awesome and came by everyday to see how we were doing. Some pranksters let his cows out so he asked if we had heard anything. It was pretty windy that night so we didn't. Cows are up on the hill contained in an electric fence. He has them back by afternoon. We were happy to see he got them back. This place is well kept and we will be back. read more

We've never liked staying here but have done so because we meet up with a group of our friends every Labor Weekend and attend a concert in the Gorge. I've never written a review for this place because it's clearly struggling financially and I didn't want to hasten what already looks like a pretty difficult situation. After witnessing the owner's treatment of other guests, I'm not inclined to stay silent any longer. I've stayed at the Vantage Riverstone Resort three times over the past four years--one year at the campsite and two years in the motel. The "resort" consists of a gas station, an out of business restaurant, a mini-mart, a run-down motel, a defunct indoor pool (the building also serves as a place to warehouse unused furniture and appliances), campsites, and RV pull throughs. It is river adjacent. The mini-mart is very minimally stocked and often runs out of essentials (ice being a really important one). There's a lot of delayed maintenance around the resort--one glaring example are the ice freezers (on the side wall, nearest to the front) in the mini mart that have been broken for over a year. It appears that they've given up fixing those and purchased an old separate ice cooler and placed that in the back. I mention these details to emphasize that this place is struggling and to paint a picture of the resort. Experience at the campsite: Pros--the sites are decent enough and there's plenty of shade. Cons--the bathrooms are reliably disgusting. There's often backed-up toilets and standing sewage; they often run out of soap and toilet paper. It's gross and it's the primary reason we moved to staying in the motel. Experience at the motel: If something is broken or jenky at a hotel, we now refer to it as "Vantage" because of our experiences at this motel. Last year we stayed in Room 2 (we were part of a friend's reservation, but I was the paying guest who checked in separately). It doesn't seem like the building was ever intended to be a motel--the rooms are large, long, and have drop ceilings. There were two beds in our room, but one of them was about 4 feet from its nightstand--this was because the outlet for the lamp was too far away to reach the bed (if they moved the bed, they'd be blocking a closet). The furniture is dated and hodge podge. The TV was small. The most interesting thing about the room were the obvious safety hazards that could have been easily and cheaply fixed, but weren't. There was a power strip in use that was black and bubbled at one end, a coffee pot with jagged chips on the pour spout, and a really narrow shower stall that requires you to pull the handle out to run the shower. The last one doesn't sound like an issue, but it's in combination with a really high set hot water temperature that lead to many screams of pain when my husband knocked the shower handle while turning around in the shower. I will say that the air conditioning worked extraordinarily well and we didn't have to use the campsite bathrooms. This year we stayed in Room 3. Room 3 had an air conditioner that didn't really catch up to cooling the rooms until the end of our second day there (of a four day stay). When I mentioned this to the front desk staff, they replied that I needed to give it time and that no one else had complained. The lamp in the front room didn't work, the bathroom sink (which was in the bedroom, not the bathroom) had such low water pressure that my husband thought it wasn't running at all ("No honey, it's Vantage, there's a trickle."). The "closet" was some lazy DIYers abandoned project--it was so narrow that the hangers could only sit diagonally, rendering it pretty useless. The dishes were dusty. The furniture was dated and hodge podge and there was a visible hole in the sofa. I didn't realize that there were nicer options available out in that part of the Gorge--we'll be spending our money there next year. read more

STAY AWAY IF YOU ARE COMING FOR A CONCERT! Loved this place for a very long time, despite the always rough check in, no recycling, and the disgusting bathrooms with sewage problems. It was a nice alternative to the gorge camping. But now the owner, with his disrespectful "hons and sweeties" when speaking with women, is trying to make this campground "family friendly" which means no talking above a whisper after 10pm, which is always going to be after the show. Despite some of our group coming here for almost two decades, we were never once informed of the quiet hours before this. He seems to think that this won't effect his business...good luck with that. If you are looking for a wholesome Christian family oriented (which means children screaming at 7am) campground this is for you. But if you are looking to stay up late around the campfire with your friends laughing and discussing the show you just enjoyed, the owner has made it very clear HE DOES NOT WANT YOUR BUSINESS. read more

For almost 2 decades, I have been a loyal customer of The Vantage Riverstone Resort. We have a group that fluctuates from about 15 to 30 people who come from all over the country to see The Dave Matthews Band on Labor Day Weekend. We always reserve between 5 and 10 tent sites, as well as some of our crew reserving pull thru sites snd motel rooms, depending on the year. When I call at the beginning of the year to make reservations, they always remember me, and when we check in, they have always greeted me by name (the office staff is kind and thoughtful, and should not be denigrated by this review). This year, as I was checking in, one of the staff referred to us as "basically locals." We have always been respectful neighbors and campers, cleaning up after ourselves, and often making friends with those around us. We have come back, year after year, and never complained about things like the sewage flooded, filthy restrooms, increasingly small sites (they are almost half the size they were when we started camping there), permanently closed restaurant and pool, or confusing check-in process, because we still felt it was superior to The Gorge Amphitheatre's camping options. We are a middle-aged bunch, and prefer a more peaceful camping situation, because while we certainly have fun and enjoy ourselves, we aren't interested in a crazy party scene (the irony will soon become clear). This last Saturday, after the show ended, we were sitting around our campfire, roasting marshmallows, reliving the show, talking, and laughing. A little after midnight, we did sing Happy Birthday to two of our group who were celebrating on 9/1. A young man came by in a golf cart and VERY rudely reprimanded us for our noise levels. There was a lot of confusion, as we were speaking at normal levels, and had never been asked to quiet down, even on years when our group was twice as large. 10-15 minutes later, he returned to say that he was giving us our "2nd warning", despite the fact that there was no yelling, no music playing, and nothing disrespectful happening AT ALL. We were all pretty baffled, and continued to discuss it the next day, as we were confused as to why we had been singled out. We checked in with our closest neighbor to see if we had disturbed her, and she verified that she is a light sleeper, had everything open (it was a hot one this year), and heard nothing. She did end up hanging out with us for much of Sunday, so the silver lining is we made a lovely new friend. While packing up camp on Monday morning, the owner, who I now know is named Bryan Stockdale, pulled into the middle of our camp sites on his 4 wheeler, and announced that he had "a review" for us. The next few minutes can only be described as bizarre. He berated us for our drunken antics (didn't happen), referred to us having to be reprimanded on multiple nights (didn't happen), made veiled threats to call the sheriff (for what, I am uncertain), and let us know that he intended to make this a "family campground"...which does explain why their staff did not seem concerned about children running through our sites screaming at 7am (which we did not complain about). He interrupted and spoke over the women in our group, calling them "hon" and "sweetie", and let us know in no uncertain terms that he is no longer interested in clientele that attend concerts at The Gorge, which seems like a strange choice for a business that is kept afloat by the largest draw for hundreds of miles around. He was condescending, rude, and didn't even have his basic facts straight. He ended the interaction with some specifically Christian references, which certainly made our very mixed group, a good percentage of which is queer, question his motives. I'm stunned that a business owner would treat customers of almost 20 years so disrespectfully, and for no good reason. All 30 of us will be taking our business and our money (not just camping, and motel rooms, but ice, supplies, and other store purchases) elsewhere. We have given Vantage thousands of our dollars over the years, and we will happily redirect those funds to one of the many other options in the area. If you are coming to the area for a concert at The Gorge, The Vantage Riverstone Resort DOES NOT WANT YOUR BUSINESS. I'm deeply saddened and disappointed, as this has been a beloved tradition, but I will absolutely never be back. read more

The pictures make this place look much better than it is. The plus sides of this campground is that it is much cheaper than the Wildhorse Campground for any Gorge Amphitheatre concert-goers and it has flushing toilets and showers. The main office was closed when we arrived to the campground so we had to check-in at the Texaco station next door. The lady gave us our parking pass and told us we can choose any open campsite.All but maybe 8 campsites were open. All the campsites are small. It can barely fit two tents and the campsites are right next to one another. There's no space between each campsite. I still can't believe they had a reservation fee of $11 on their website and in addition charge $20 for two people and one tent. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire pit. Nice park just off the interstate 90. Very pleasant and courteous reception. Wanted a place to spend a week but, due to temps in high90's will have to move on as they have only one 50 AMP service. All the rest are 30 AMP which will not power and cool my coach. Would stay again in cooler weather. Full hookups. Pretty property and surrounding area. read more

Rough is the only way to describe this place. Poor restrooms with non-functional plumbing, angry staff that demand you wear a wristband to prove you've paid and a poorly stocked general store make this a drive-by only. read more
