Last week had a wonderful Vantigo Tour with Chad as my guide. It was a tour of the major side scenarios of San Francisco. Chad was delightful knowledgeable funny and entertaining. If you want to get an overview from somebody who knows the city well, Chad is the Tour guide to show you the city. Just cheesy enough to be fun, and just serious enough to help you get a true insider's view of san francisco that just not possible from a big old bus. Instead, we had Chad, our intrepid host and driver, and Harvey, a powder blue VW bus that was as charming and quirky as you'd expect. Byw hosting one of these is no mean feat. The lovely Jiwon M. and I entrusted our lives to Eddie and Harvey on a sunny San Francisco Saturday (try saying that five times fast) for one of their Brew Tours. But even before the tour I knew I was in good hands with Vantigo after I called nearly 6 months earlier to inquire about getting a gift certificate for the tour. Erik was extremely friendly and accommodating, making sure to text and email me verification of my purchase. Our tour ran from about 12:30 to 5pm, beginning and ending at Cellarmaker Brewery. From the start, Eddie was funny and informative, tapping into his history as an educator and his history as unofficial world traveller. (Literally, he had been in every region that our party came from - Italy, Canada, SoCal...) Since we were a small group of 7, we felt included and at ease immediately. The crowd really differs depending on the day though according to Eddie, so you could be touring with anyone from people in their twenties to well-established 50-somethings. We got an informal lecture on the beer-making process, toured the actual brewing facilities at Voodoo, and basically brought out our inner beer nerds. On the way to becoming brewskis, we never felt rushed and Eddie made a point to go around and check-in with everyone at each stop. Eddie and Erik have really worked hard to build relationships with the breweries they chose, and I'll tell you they did a good job choosing them. And, they even went to the trouble of getting licenses so you can legally drink the complimentary beer in whichever van you're in! Not being a huge beer aficionado myself, I still really enjoyed my time and got WAY more beer than I was expecting nor could possibly imbibe (at least a pint at each of 3 stops). I definitely broadened my beer horizons in the light and dark directions, and would strongly recommend joining them on one of their jaunts. With whispers of food tours coming in the works, I'd say their future looks positively delicious! read more

I was super impressed with this tour, I feel like I learned SO MUCH!! Had me dreaming about the old days with all the amazing history and knowledge our guide chad had. He was full of good energy and a plethora of knowledge. He had the answer to every question as well which was really impressive. I would recommend doing the city tour earlier on in your vacation or trip becuase you will undoubtedly see a lot of the city that you will want to return to on your visit. Fantastic tour of the city. Loved the VW van. Chad had great knowledge of the city and seemed to hit the key spots. We were also impressed with his knowledge of the history of the city and surrounding area. Since we went with a private tour, Chad was able to be flexible and hit some specific sights we wanted to see. He seemed to make an extra effort for us to see many of the views despite being a foggy morning. We got a Vantigo tour as a gift for Christmas and decided to do the SF city tour which included: Cellarmaker, Harmonic, and Local breweries. Eric was our guide and he was great keeping us entertained as we cruised the city in their badass van. We have already recommended these tours to our friends and family. A great way to see some different parts of the city while checking out local breweries. The tour takes around 4 hours, but it goes by quickly. My girlfriend and I did the night tour the first day we got into San Francisco and it was he best decision. Not only did we get a full tour of the city we got to do it in a VW bus with an excellent variety of craft beers for the ride! Vantigo really gives you a different perspective of the city in a unique experience that is tough to replicate, they really know the city inside and out. I found this unique tour operator on Yelp and it was THE highlight of our weekend trip to San Francisco. Lilly was our vintage chariot driven and by Chad, our very knowledgeable and super friendly guide. There were so many thoughtful touches along the ride that made me happy that I chose Vantigo. First, the music that corresponded to a specific fact that Chad wanted to bless us with or as a prelude to our next location for example: The Red Hot Chili Peppers '90's hit "Under the Bridge" played on our way to take photos under the Golden Gate Bridge and the Full House theme as we embarked to the neighborhood where the pink ladies reside.
