The food was very good. I would give it an 8/10. I had the red curry chicken with vegetables. No rice or noodles. It was good, not great. If I ever get this again, I would substitute the green beans for mushrooms. The green beans did not enhance the flavor profile, but subtracted from it. My partner had the drunken noodle and loved it. He would also give it an 8/10. He said that the chicken wasn't as tender as he'd like, but the flavor was right there. Neither of us liked the location. It seemed inner city dirty. The restroom was dirty and kind of gross. The restaurant reeked of marijuana smoke, which killed the ambiance. The waiter seemed stoned. Which could explain the marijuana smell. Not sure we'll be back because of those reasons. There was also a table of women that were talking non-stop. No fault of the restaurant about this last thing. It just added to the overall picture. I just wasn't comfortable and relaxed here. However, I would definitely come back for take-out. Which is why I gave this four stars. read more

Fantastic service and food recently hosted a big party for my friend Denny ! The staff is super friendly.

We had a limited amount of asian food to choose from while in Williamsport and despite the bad review from our friends, we came here for lunch. There were no other customers in the restaurant and by the time we left, one other party of 2 arrived while we were eating. We tried to order the crab fried rice but they were out and ended up getting the pad see ew, pad thai, pad ki mao and a fried rice dish. The food was really good, the pad see ew was really flavorful and my husabnd demolished the pad ki mao. The worker was a lot more friendly to the other party which is understandable, they are regulars while we were clearly just visiting during the LLWS events. Our total bill was roughly under $70 for a party of four which compared to Hawaii, where I'm from, this is considered super cheap! read more

Love this little Thai restaurant. The service is always fast and friendly. I always get Pad Thai with chicken because I like it so much that I don't want to order anything else. Service was terrible. Our waiter had no personality and seemed annoyed to even be working. There were only two tables in the restaurant, yet he never returned to check on us, refill our water, or clear our dishes. Half the menu was unavailable, and the food itself was just mediocre. The order was ready in about 15 minutes and there are safe (at least it appeared so in the daytime) places to plop yourself down and eat nearby. My curry was as spicy as I liked and the dish had real asian vegetables. However, my wife had a chicken stir-fry dish (can't recall the menu item) which she didn't really care for. Thus, the rating was a compromise. Coming from NYC, I find central PA to be a food dessert so I'm glad that at least joy Thai provides an ethnic option. But the food is disappointing. Ordered a pineapple fried rice, drunken noodles, papaya salad and a red curry. There was no fresh-out-the-wok smokiness to either the rice or pad kee mao. The noodles were also mushy. The potato in the curry was barely cooked. The papaya salad was entirely lacking in brightness and acidity. Here's a brief rundown of Thai fare around these parts: Siam Restaurant and Bar in Lewisburg - similarly not good. Bloom'n Thai in Bloomsburg - good but awful wait times (called exactly at 5 to place order. Told to pick up 1.5 hours later. Got there at 6:30 and food wasn't ready till 6:50. Nearly two hours!) Nine Elephants in ELMIRA, NY - GREAT. Of course the best of the bunch has to be one you have to cross state lines for. read more

Let me tell you, I have started coming to this Thai Cuisine since freshman year of college (Sept 2017), it has been almost four years and I am still a loyal customer of theirs. Every time I come I always bring new customers who craves spicy food just like me. The gentlemen always welcomed me with an amazing attitude and I just love coming here. The food is amazing, I am obsessed with their chicken/veggie egg roll it comes with a sweet sauce. Perfect combination! I also order their drunken noodles with my choice of protein and spices. It is a great mixture of veggies and noodles. It is soo good every time for the passed four years! I am also obsessed with their spicy fried rice that is similar to their drunken noodles. The food here is tasty and freshly made. Everyone enjoyed their food, although it took awhile for some in our party of 10 to received their meals. I ordered the Chicken Green Curry mild with rice. I came in to place a to-go order. This place was nice inside and spanned two different parts of the buiilding. Obvious it had expanded into another business at some point in the past. I already knew what I wanted without looking at a menu, as there are a few Thai staples you can ensure you'll find anywhere. Panang Curry and Pad Thai being among some of my favorites. So I placed my order, assured the server I would not mind the 15 minute wait and waited. There were one or two families inside enjoying dinner and though the ambiance was quiet it didn't seem stuffy. I recieved my food quicker than quoted and walked back to my hotel. The pad thai was good, if a bit too salty. The panang curry was great, though not quite spicy enough. But all in all I was stuffed and satisfied. I would go back again and try some other dishes to be sure. I can't remember the last time I rated a Thai restaurant five stars. I've dined at dozens upon dozens of Thai restaurants in Chicago and Washington, DC and Joy Thai is one of the best I've ever been to. Seriously. Before I dined here, I had low expectations. A Thai restaurant in central Pennsylvania? I highly doubt the food would be good or authentic. Fortunately, I was absolutely wrong. The food at Joy Thai was delicious. Everything I've had was top notch, including Pad Thai. If you've read my reviews, I am extremely picky about this dish. It is one of my favorite Thai dishes, but restaurants tend to screw it up somehow. I was worried that Joy Thai's Pad Thai might even have ketchup (the greatest crime a restaurant can commit). No, their Pad Thai was wonderful. It had all the flavors that make Pad Thai unique and popular: sweet, savory, tangy, and more. The Pad Thai maybe a tad too sweet to a Thai food newbie, but it was just perfect, especially with lime juice. It was the best Pad Thai I've had in several months. The vegetable egg rolls were perfectly crisp and not too greasy. The Mushroom Salad was interesting. A light lime juice and chili dressing is tossed with straw mushrooms, sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, tofu, and fungus (it had the consistency of seaweed). My dining partners enjoyed the Flower Dumplings (basically Khanom Jeep) and Joy Thai Herbal (marinated pork). Curtis had the Holy Jungle, which is red curry with mixed vegetables and tofu. It had just the right amount of heat and flavor. One of the dining partners ordered Drunken Noodles (Pad Khee Mao). While it is supposed to be a spicy dish, they were able to make it mild for him. The Fried Banana dessert was a perfect ending to a great meal. The service is courteous and pleasant. Water is refilled frequently. They gladly take requests such as omitting fish and oyster sauce or toning down spiciness. Do note, however, that they cannot accept credit cards twice in one day. Example: You paid for dinner, but now want dessert. They can't charge the same card. (Odd, but perhaps it's for fraud prevention?) Joy Thai is a GREAT Thai restaurant. I can't emphasize this enough. It is very vegetarian-friendly too. I can't believe that such a gem exists in Williamsport. I wish Joy Thai was in Chicago, because I would visit every week. (Instead, I saved half of the Pad Thai and brought it to Chicago with me.) Now, I have something to look forward to the next time I'm in the area. PS: If you question the authenticity, everyone who works at the restaurant is Thai, from the servers to cooks. PSS: Take advantage of their lunch specials! read more

I was in Thailand once, and ate out everywhere, everyday. I was in Joy Thai couple times. Here is some of opinion: curry dish and pad Thai taste pretty good, but you just get a little bit taste of Thai food. The street food in Thailand is better than this. But we can't go to Thailand all the time, right? So, we have to eat those Americanized Thai food, just like those Chinese food here. The lunch potion there is not that big enough if you get used to regular American restaurants, I never got filled up by just ordering one entree. But it is about $8 per one dish and comes with a free soup or salad. So not bad deal. Other dishes are pretty normal, some of them just taste like those Chinese food, but more expensive price. Dinner dishes are good sizes,big portion, but some of them are kind of expensive, like those specialties, around $20 per one dish, no salad or soup come with it. Other dinner entrees are around $11 per dish just for beef or chicken kinds of meat inside. Shrimp will be $2 more. But their Tom Yum soup is such a failure, I can make better than theirs just by using some Tom yum paste. It just has 1/20 taste of the real thing, not good at all. It costs over $3 for a small bowl, not worth the money at all. Anyway lunch time is the best time for the price. read more

I was in Williamsport for a meeting and used Yelp to find something near and I hit the jackpot. I walked in at 11:40 just after they opened. The place seemed clean and average decor. Lets face it if a restaurant is dirty when they just open you should run! The service It is hard to truly comment when you are there with 6 other people. With that being said the staff was very friendly and attentive always checking on me and making sure my drink was filled! The food I ordered the lunch special which was a soup and entree for 10.55 which was an amazing value. I started with the chicken coconut soup. It had great flavor and the had alot in it for being a cup of soup. For my entree I ordered the drunkin noodles and what can I say but wow. First off the portion was generous at for 10.55. It probably deserves 3 stars but the reviews are inflated. I should start by saying it wasn't BAD, it just wasn't good. I am a good service professional working in everything from Chinese to Italian to BBQ. Everything appears to be pre made. I have questions whether or not anything is prepared in house. Vegetables appear to be brought in pre cut and not fresh sauces appear to be pre made. Even the meat was possibly brought in pre cut. It is presented and tastes like good quality cafeteria food. Which isn't the worst thing in the world. Everything was on the sweet side as well. This is Thai food made to taste decent to good for the masses. If you are looking for freshly prepared high quality Thai this is not going to be it. But it's ok if you are looking for a quick bite with Thai flavors. read more

I'm a regular and order takeout for dinner almost every week. The food is authentic, spicy, and up to par with Thai food I've had in bigger cities. Prices are reasonable and portion sizes are just right. The owners are friendly and the service is great. This place would get 5 stars if it served bubble tea. Joy Thai has caused quite a stir in Williamsport. People are raving about how great this restaurant is. Time for this seasoned, jaded Yelp reporter to go in and get the true facts! Came here on a Wednesday night with two other co-workers. Restaurant is located in an older downtown building on 4th street. They have two separate dining areas but looks like it is for space purposes and both halves are identical. Atmosphere is dark and casual. We were promptly seated and presented with a menu. I ordered a Jungle Tiger, companions ordered pineapple fried rice and pad thai. For an appetizer we had egg rolls. Appetizers were prety forgetable, there was too much chicken and they overwhelmed the veggies that were inside. To me, Thai food is about the way they incorporate the veggies. We were served our main course at different times. My came the soonest, after 15 minutes, my companions were served about five minutes later. All main dishes were served piping hot which I guess is why they staggered the serving times. They'd rather get it on the table rather than let it cool on a shelf until all entrees are ready. My Jungle Tiger was fine although I would have liked a bit more heat (it was three stars out of four). Regulars tell me to order it Thai Hot if I like it hotter. Curry sauce had a nice coconut milk and lime flavor and meat was very good. Vegetables were kind of limp, not sure why but they just didn't seem fresh. Tab for three was around 40 dollars which makes this a bargain for the pinch pennies. I'd come back if I ever visit the area but to be honest, I've had better.
