We used to come here a few years back, and we saw a decline in quality, so we stopped coming. This is a retry, and we were impressed in a good way. It had the trappings of Chinese culture right down to the tee. As we looked at the large tables, there was plenty of steam letting you know this was hot food. The food... many traditional dishes to choose from, and of course, American fare, 5 cauldrons of soups, a salad table, many desserts, and there it was, off in the corner-an ice cream machine which had some of the best chocolate ice cream you could ever want. A classic Chinese Buffet, nothing particular stands out. Its in a strip mall that looks like it has seen better days but the inside of the restaurant was clean but dated from the 90s. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to a booth. Our server took our drink orders and we proceeded to the buffet. They have a decent selection of Chinese food from Dim Sum, shrimp, pork and chicken dishes, egg rolls, along with a few basic sushi rolls, salads, and desserts. I did see a hibachi station but no one was manning it, prob because it was a Sunday. The buffet was constantly replenished with fresh food so they did a great job keeping up with the crowd. Plates were removed promptly and we had our drinks refreshed when we asked. Wasn't a huge crowd but a constant flow of people coming in and out for dine in and take out. As with many "Chinese" buffets, the Chinese food is so-so. If you are looking for top Chinese, better to find a regular restaurant, not a buffet. That said, the food here isn't bad. I've been here several times when passing through the area. The Hibachi is pretty good, and I love the ginger sauce, (which I have never seen at any other hibachi except Chens Mongolian in State College). Interestingly the shrimp in the hibachi and the buffet food is different than the steamed shrimp. The steamed shrimp is honest to goodness red shrimp not the bland shrimp from Asia. The salmon was outstanding. I went to a competitor today across town and it was $15+ before the tip for a meal, egg roll and water. Wow. This place is hit and miss. When their food is good, it's really good. When their food is bad, it's really bad. It does get very busy and they have a lot to choose from. They serve mostly American Chinese food and American food as well as sushi. They have desserts as well as a good assortment of fruit. They have a sort of hibachi grill where they will cook your food on it for you but you don't sit at it. It is clean except the restrooms. The restrooms need a better touch up. The only other problem is if you are new to the area and don't know the back road, it can be difficult to get out onto the strip due to heavy traffic. Update: I just changed my review. A nice buffet aesthetic wise. The food was good but some of the chicken dishes were over cooked and "chewy". The hibachi was nice but some of the meat( shrimp, beef) looked old. Before I visited this buffet today, I thought the best Chinese buffet around Williamsport was the King House buffet on golden strip williamsport. But after I ate at this place that is about 40 miles away Williamsport, I changed my mind. China house beats King house. I passed this buffet on Rt 11/15 at least 10 times before, but never tried to eat there. Cause the entrance of this buffet gave me the impression of this place was a small rat hole buffet like some other Chinese buffets we ate in different small town before. But I was wrong. We were so hungry when we were here, and needed a big all you can eat meal. So we thought we were going to give it a try. After I walked into that not a too big entrance, I was amazed how big and nice this place was. It is at least twice bigger than King house, and the whole restaurant looks cleaner and newer too. The servers there are very nice, very good service, fast. They saw my baby girl who is 2 year old was little, they didn't charge her at all without asking her age. They have a very big food area with seven big food stations, including a very fresh salad, fruit and sushi bar, a hot Chinese entree bar, a fried food and Dim Sum, a American food bar, a soup bar and seafood(We had lunch there so seafood bar for dinner was empty), a dessert and ice cream bar and a Mongolia BBQ bar. Many of the food I ate there tasted pretty good, like their chicken on the stick, just tasted like those ones in the made to order Chinese restaurant, juicy and tender. Hot and sour soup was good, American food were good, etc. Most of their food tasted better than the one we have here. Some of there were OK. Guess you have to figure out yourself, cause every body has different taste bud. For all those you can eat food, you just pay $6.49 per person for lunch, and $2.49 for 4 year old. I am glad I checked this place out, and in the future, I could stop there when every time we drive through that area. This is the first time I ever questioned the freshness of the food and the first time I was alittle concerned about eating the sushi and mussels. The sushi rolls tasted like they used canned tuna instead of real fish. The roe on the rolls was so fishy I had to spit it out on my plate. The rest of the food was mediocre at best. Decided to try China House for dinner while in the area for business. I was somewhat presently surprised by the variety and quality of the buffet. Good, typical Chinese that was overall solid, mild in flavor (you could spice it or flavor it to your liking). Nothing super special or outstanding, just good solid Chinese buffet were hot foods were hot and cold foods were cold. They also have a Hibachi style grill where you pick out the raw food and a chef will cook it on a flat top grill. The restaurant is in a small strip mall and based on the exterior, with the red lights and windows, you think it will be small. It is actually a rather large dining area with the buffet located in the middle. It's a little dark inside and somewhat strangely decorated with Christmas ornaments hanging from the ceiling. The wait staff was friendly, perhaps rushing you a little bit, especially during dinner to turn the table. For the area, this appears to capture the locals as well as tour groups passing through the area. I'm not sure that I will pit this on my return list for dinner, but would potentially be a good lunch spot. There is a somewhat limited selection for dining in the area and if you're looking for Chinese, this would be a good starting point. read more

They harass you for a tip. I didn't even have a chance to leave a tip and they were telling me I need to leave a tip of 15 to 20%. That's bad behavior to ask for a tip. I don't reward bad behavior so left nothing. Besides the food wasn't good and it was cold. I will never eat there again read more

Super hit or miss. Sometimes the food is super good and always stocked and hot, and other times it's super low, not many options, and not hot. My biggest thing is how unsanitary it is. There's lots of dust and dirt on floors, counters, and booth dividers. I've had much better food from other places that are actually clean. I go here more for convenience. read more

After coming to the China House Buffet once, the man cooking the food has refused to cook me any food due to me only tipping 2 dollars. I thought I would give it a second chance but the next time I came I was with my long haired friend and the man cooking once again was very rude towards us. As we were walking away he kept repeating "nothing,nothing" and looking at the tip jar (i had already tipped 2$). Due to the actions of the hibachi cook I will not be back at this place. read more

My daughter and I dined there yesterday and the first annoying thing that happened was when the host directed us to a four seat table when we were only two people. We declined her offer and requested the two seated table. The food was delicious but some of the items were lukewarm and even cool. Been going there for many years but never again. The evening buffet has gone down hill in a big way. The price doesn't match the food. Crab legs have became just that, small meatless legs. No bodies or claws. Wings are more fat then meat. Most of the selections are either over or under cooked. The last straw was when I saw a big list of health violations in the newspaper.
