Pepper steak and dumplings over white rice.
    Ryan B.

I've been here before and the food was much better, maybe they're having an off day but I'm certainly not pleased with my meal. The rice taste like it has been washed in dirty water, the chicken is very spongy, just not a good experience today. Good atmosphere, quick service, good selection though so they get 4 stars.

    Hibachi Hours.

The buffet food is good, but I mostly go for the Subway-Style "pick your fixin's" and they cook it for you, while you stand there, Hibachi.

    Some food in my plate.

Food is good. I always get the hibachi that way I have hot food. Most waitresses are friendly and speak some English.

It's nice because they know the workers. The food was basic but not bad. They just need to stir the hot foods more often so as not to dry out. I had a good salad and sirloin steak. The apple pie and bread pudding, both made in cast iron, were great! I had them plain but I know ice cream would've made them perfect! $45 for two. Not bad, I suppose. I recommend if you want a variety of basic buffet food in a friendly atmosphere.

The buffet looked like it had been sitting out long enough to qualify for Social Security. The mashed potatoes had this weird geological crust on top--like a distant cousin of drywall--while the green beans were giving "found at the bottom of a pond" energy. And don't even get me started on the mystery meat... I'm not saying it was moving, but I also wouldn't swear under oath that it wasn't. If the Board of Health saw this place, the inspector would just silently put their clipboard down, walk outside, and stare into the distance until someone asked if they were okay. It's the type of restaurant that makes you question every life choice that led you through its doors.

Each dining area features different Chinese-style decorative patterns on the tables, creating a unique atmosphere. The environment is very clean and well maintained. Not near it. OUT OF IT. At that point I wasn't sure if I was eating at a buffet or witnessing a wildlife documentary. The shrimp smelled like it had been shipped here on the Mayflower. One sniff and my nose filed a formal complaint. I considered calling the health department just so someone else could smell what I smelled and confirm I wasn't hallucinating. To make things even better, when it was time to pay, the staff hovered over me while I signed the receipt like they were proctors at the SAT exam. Nothing says "great dining experience" like feeling pressured into tipping after playing Russian roulette with the seafood. The food looked exhausted, the shrimp smelled like low tide, a fly emerged from my sushi like it was paying rent there, and the only thing fresher than the food was the pressure to leave a tip. One star because the fly at least seemed happy with the meal.

We went a few Sundays in the late spring and had a good experience. When Knoebel's opened, the experience went downhill. We drew the line when we went in on a Sunday where large groups were present, and they apparently had no clue on buffet etiquette, or just didn't care. Cleanliness and food safety are huge to me after I got horrible food poisoning at another buffet in the area and spent 4 days in the ICU with it. While the buffet area itself was clean and the food was to temperature, there were many patrons taking dirty plates back up. We notified our server who just looked at us and kind-of shrugged and walked away. My husband approached one of them and said, "Please don't keep taking dirty plates back up to the buffet.". One of them chastised him and told him he was "nuts" and that he was lying that it's not OK to do that. Plates are not at the buffet - the server brings them, and will bring two sets at the beginning, and then will replenish when needed. When we left, we informed another server that it was gross to do that and they're opening themselves up for issues if the health department stopped by, she asked why we didn't say anything. We said that we did but the server didn't seem to care. She yelled "I care!" from behind a door, but that was enough for us to opt to not return until Knoebel's was closed for the year. We suggested that they consider keeping the plates at the buffet area to discourage that. We decided to try again recently. Not only was there a large group there taking their dirty plates back up, but they were also taking dirty utensils up and using them. I was 3/4 through my plate when I saw that and refused to eat any more. My husband again said something to them, and they just pretended as if he didn't hear. We again said something to the server and suggested that they need to put signs up saying to not take dirty plates back up, or again to put plates at the buffet, but I'm fairly confident nothing will be done. There are other reviews out there that bring up questions of cleanliness, which is concerning. Unsure whether we'll try to return or not. At 10 am, much of the hot side of the buffet was empty, and not restocked while we were there, which is another strike.

There was enough variety (sushi, italian and asian-style hot dishes, salad, fruits, etc.), and while everything was pretty mediocre, we were hungry, so it sufficed for us. There was a lot of sushi, but all the rolls were pretty simple (the filling for most of the rolls were one of cream cheese, crabmeat, and some tempura) and had a lot of rice. I wish that they displayed the ingredients in their sushi and dishes though -- they were only labeled vague names like "Beauty Roll" or "Dynamite Roll." I thought the meats were cooked pretty well -- at least the ones I tried (Thai Chicken, Pork Chop), and I also liked the asian-styled Mixed Vegetables. They had a whole section of fried foods, which I didn't try. The Lo Mein (noodles) were bland, and the fried dumplings weren't that great (the dough was waay too tough). The quality of the meal really depends on the timing. When we got there, a lot of the dishes were looking that they had been sitting out for a while (the pizza looked cold and dry, there wasn't a lot of food left in the tins, etc.), but it all looked a lot better and appetizing when they brought out the newly-cooked food, obviously. We got there at about 3:30pm, which was a weird time, and they "restocked" probably around 4pm. I'm not sure how frequently they restock, but it seemed like they do it at a good cadence.
