The landscape of the grounds were also designed by the Olmsted Brothers who became famous for designing/landscaping many of today's national parks. The Rutherfurd family lived here as early as the mid-eighteenth century, and over their families time here hosted many famous titans of industry and even future American presidents. There's a really fun/interesting story about FDR and Alice Morton. Later, Rutherfurd Hall was donated to the church and used as a type of retirement home for the nuns. Rutherfurd Hall is now owned by the Allamuchy School District who does a great job utilizing it to maintain this beautiful structure. If you go on a Wednesday, you'll be able to receive a tour through the beautiful home. Their tour guides are absolutely fantastic and know so much of the history so thoroughly it is really impressive. Rutherfurd Hall does weddings on it's own, but a local venue David's Country Inn also holds wedding ceremonies on the grounds. I'll be having my ceremony at Rutherfurd Hall and could not be more excited!

A local cultural arts center introduces active civilian's not only to the local scout or brownie bake sales, but a wonderful on going venue to express and experience a wide variety of typical and not so typical events. We've been to; concerts both in the auditorium and the outside stage, dance recitals, tumbling, expo's, network shops, food shows, plays and fairs. Of course EB day takes place here along of course with the 4th of July sensational fire works display which left our entire group covered in ash, lol ( perhaps they should check wind direction and crowd proximity next year ). The building is fairly modern and the staff always friendly. Tons of parking both on the grounds or through the Heavenly Farms fields. Unfortunately EB being one of the largest commuter towns in central NJ doesn't have a true Mayberry type Main street and really no place to collaborate with fellow local brethren. So come on out and meet your friends, neighbors, officials and be apart of the community, you owe it to yourself and your family.

The church the festival/fair is held on is beautiful and so are the views of the surrounding PA area. The landscaping for the grounds is also well done too, it really is in a great area. There is plenty of parking for the event with many staff members around to direct you to a spot. The festival isn't too expensive and neither is the food or beer! The Lech beer is my personal favorite, a few of those and you'll be feeling no pain. Of course, Pierogies are recommended. The fair is aimed towards younger kids but they have plenty of rides and activities and seemed like it would be fun. There is plenty of vendor tents to look at with a variety of merchandise, and the vendors/staff we all talked to are extremely friendly too. They also have many live shows from music to acrobatics. Plenty of benches to eat food at too. They even gave a 'casino' section to test your luck and possibly win some money too! There are bathrooms in the church cafeteria building but they also have many Porto potties, the cleanest I have ever seen! All in all, it was a fun little festival with plenty to do and the grounds they are held on are really grand. Whether you are Polish or not it's worth a stop by and it is a fun way to spend Labor Day weekend!!

After standing for a few hours, I really regretted not getting a ticketed seat for myself. So in the future, I'm glad that I have that option. Once you enter The Shed, you take the escalator upstairs to get to the concert hall. At the end of the concert, the doors open and lead you out right next to The Vessel so I thought that was a nice visual perk at the end of the concert. I hope I get a chance to come back and get to walk around the place and see a little bit more of it.

Theater review: seating was 3 escalator flights up where most seats were good ones. Comfortable folding style chairs with the theater exhibiting good lighting and audio. There was a mobile bar during intermission that offered wine, water and soda for purchase. I didn't see any merchandise for sale. Production review: When I learned Tom Hanks would be performing Off Broadway in "This World of Tomorrow", I was eager to get tickets. Although the production is Off Broadway, the prices were definitely Broadway and no surprise there with headliner Tom Hanks--one of my top favorite actors of all time--in the starring role. The play takes place in the year 2089 and is all about time travel with Hanks' character--Bert--traveling back to 1939 during New York's World Fair. Without giving anything away, the storyline explores themes on falling in love, technology and what makes life meaningful. We really enjoyed the production which runs through December 21. Overall, it received positive reviews. Some were mixed and in my opinion, I thought the play should have been shaved down by 20 -30 minutes (it was 2 hours + 15 min with intermission). As a Tom Hanks fan, it was truly a delightful treat on a holiday weekend.

What it is now is 83 acres along the north shore of Staten Island that began as a home for retired sailors in the 19th, with large residential buildings and a nautical museum whose Italianate architecture reminds of the Borgia palaces in the old world. Last Saturday it was crowded with weddings and birthday parties capturing the beauty of the day. It was an unplanned cultural festival. Wet easy to walk around and get caught up in the many events happening at the same time. While the gardens and pathways showed signs of benign neglect, the many buildings were in some degree of renovation, and the history of this area was on beautiful romantic display. There was food and drink for the asking, and even a few knowledgeable docents to answer questions about Tom Melville (Herman's younger brother), governor of Snug Harbor for over 30 years. Word is that part of Moby Dick was written right from the front porch of the governor's mansion. The various botanical zones were interesting, if somewhat overgrown, but their "gone to seed" attitude was somehow very appealing. This was New York City giving shelter in its special offhanded way. Only the strong survive. The Chinese Scholars Garden was the best of the choices. Walking through the Moon Door into the bamboo and still deep coy ponds was a Zen moment I stopped to appreciate. It had an entry cover charge ($5), but it was worth the expense for the obvious extra effort they made to make this walled secret garden more enjoyable. Snug Harbor is so unique, only 5 Stars can begin to capture its special charm.

The park had a decent crowd but not overcrowded. Also, there was security staff scattered throughout the park. There were vendors selling items. I spoke to a few people and learned they have some excellent food vendors as well as events there. Additionally, the Chinese Scholars Garden was open but they wanted 5$ admission for one adult. It was the end of the day so I decided to skip it. I've been there many times over the years and always found it a relaxing place to visit. There's a gorgeous vine-covered passageway and colorful Monarch butterflies to be discovered along the way. Highly recommend.
