Peri Mogo
Nick P.

So, I've been to Nando's Peri Peri as well as Port of Peri Peri. This was my first time coming to Vasco's. Customer service was friendly although it could be improved. When I had a question, two of the employees just looked at me and the third came over. It can't be a language barrier since they're in Lombard. The second instance was when the employee asked if we could write a review, he kind of awkwardly stood by us, waiting for us to do it. I recommend just dropping off the QR code and let us review it privately. You'll have better ratings. Unfortunately, I'll have to take off a point for those two instances. For the food we ordered half chicken with sweet potato fries, far far, and mini platter. Mini platter came with half chicken, 3 wings, and peri mogo fries. I wished they had more combo meals like Nando's like chicken wings combo, half chicken combo, etc. Besides the mini platter combo, the sides can really add up if you didn't want the mini platter. The chicken itself was juicy and tender. The sweet potato fries were just okay. The peri mogo fries were mediocre. The far far reminded me of a saltier version of shrimp chips, it's good to take home and snack on it. Portion sizes were not super small like what some people said. Portions were sufficient if you have a side with your chicken. Prices were okay but could be better if they added more affordable combo meals for the average person. I have to take a point off for the fries and lack of combo meals. Overall, it's a 3 for me.

Stopped by at Vascos Peri Peri for lunch today! Ordered a Whole mild chicken, side of Sweet potato fries, and Garlic Bread. Taste is similar to Port of Peri Peri in Lombard. Customer service was friendly and efficient and the restaurant has a nice setup with a clean ambiance. Worth checking out!

I popped into Vasco's with my son for a late lunch. The inside is spacious and looks decent. We ordered a chicken and rice bowl with lemon and herb, and a side of far far. The chicken and rice was really good, but not as much lemon and herb flavor as The Port of Peri Peri. The white sauce was delicious. My son loved the far far. Service was friendly and pricing was fair.

they marked it VEGAN

asked for a vegan wrap w vegan chicken and they gave me real chicken. so dissapointing. do better. zero stars if i could. never coming here again.

Vasco Peri Peri serves flavorful, well-seasoned dishes with a nice spicy kick. The portions are generous, the food is fresh, and the service is friendly. A great spot if you love bold peri peri flavor

Halloumi

Staff was friendly and inviting, especially when they found out if was our first time in. The restaurant was very clean, minimalistic in decor. It wasn't very big and didn't have a menu on the wall, only paper menus for you to look at. You order at the counter and someone brings the food and two bottles of sauce to your table. It was a chili sauce and a garlic sauce. Hubby said the chili sauce was good and we both liked the garlic sauce. They had a fountain drink station and a couple of fridges with other types of drinks. Fountain drinks were priced "per person" but not sure how they'd enforce that exactly. We went with the halloumi strips, 4 pc peri peri tenders, chicken samburai pita, garlic bread and a fountain drink. The food was very good. The halloumi strips were grilled cheese, the squeaky type of cheese that you buy in large square blocks and pan fry. It was hot and tasted as expected. The pieces we got were pretty small for what we paid, though. The 4 pc peri peri chicken tenders were thick cut, moist chicken tenders covered and plated on a bed of very flavorful lemon and herb sauce. The chicken samurai pita was very good, with fresh ingredients (lettuce, onion and tomato), the samurai sauce and moist chicken tenders. The garlic bread was ciabatta bread covered in a really delicious fresh garlic butter sauce with some salty seasoning that was really good. No idea what it was, but it was delicious. The bread was toasted perfectly, crunchy, fresh and hot. The bill wasn't cheap though, $40. Prices were a bit on the high side, but the food was really good.

The food and service was great. Kaitan was very helpful and friendly. The ambience and atmosphere were also great.

Peri Peri Tenders

Delicious, tender chicken. Medium sauce had a great kick to it. Awesome meal post gym for some clean protein

$17 for a 6" chk wrap and small drink. Wow!! Not cheap. Taste was ok, but come on photo is below. Plate is 10" for scale. I mean why would I be back? To leave hungry and be out a twenty? Just not worth the price.

We have an Appreciation Perks Program coupon that we used while placing our order. We brought up the coupon before placing our order and allowed the person at the register to fully review the content of the coupon. The exact wording is provided below: "50% off DINING SPECTACULAR You will receive 50% off your total food bill, up to a maximum savings of $25.00" Based on the wording of this coupon, a customer should receive 50% off their bill (up to $25 off a $50 bill.) If a bill is $30, it should be $15 off. If the bill is $70, the $25 maximum is discounted. This is a very common deal in the food industry. After reviewing the coupon with the cashier, we placed our order. The food order was over $50 (total including tax was over $59 dollars.) We noticed that no discount was being applied, so we asked the cashier about the order. He explained that since our bill was over $25, there should be no discount applied. He stated that a $25 bill would receive a $12.50 discount. Any bill over that amount, the discount does not apply. We reviewed the coupon with the cashier, pointing out that the coupon directly said "savings of $25.00". We also pointed out the location was explicitly listed on the offer. He still refused to apply any discount. My family was appalled, so we cancelled our order, retrieved our coupon, and left the restaurant. Based off this experience and other reviews, this location should be avoided!

We placed an online order and arrived at the scheduled pickup time, only to wait an additional 30+ minutes. When we arrived, staff told us our order, placed over an hour earlier, could not be completed on time because they were prioritizing a separate catering order. While it was frustrating, we were patient. We were then informed that items could not be fulfilled due to a fryer malfunction. Staff offered substitutions, which we declined, and we politely requested a refund for the unavailable items. We were told the system was "down" and that refunds could not be processed, and instead were asked to return another day to redeem the items. This was unacceptable, as we paid for food we did not receive. When I called to speak with the manager to follow up, the interactions were extremely unpleasant. She was rude, dismissive, and repeatedly interrupted me, saying things like "oh my God, what do you want?" She told me to stop talking, and expressed annoyance that I had called multiple times to discuss the issue--despite the issue still not being resolved. She also contradicted earlier information, falsely claiming that a refund had been offered and declined, which is not true. As of now (the next day), we still have not received a refund for items we were charged for but never received. When I expressed concern about her tone, she responded by saying, "this is just how I talk" and "I don't like to drag things out, oh my God", instead of addressing the issue professionally and respectfully like any manager should. This situation was handled very poorly, and the manager's behavior was unacceptable. Customer service should be respectful, honest, and solution-focused- none of which were demonstrated here. Unfortunately, we will not be returning, and I would caution others based on this experience.

Unfortunately for us, there isn't one within 1/2 hour of us, so going to Nando's is either for special occasions or if we're in the area anyway. It was the latter for this visit. We went at an off-hour so there was only one other table with people there. The manager waited on us - he was really great to work with. We knew what we wanted but he pointed out some other things on the menu and discussed the drink options (there are so many). I had the 1/2 chicken and cole slaw. It was too large for me to eat all of it on this visit, but I think it was smaller than the last time we were there. I think their prices are the same which must mean with the inflation we've experienced recently, they may be cutting portion size rather than raising their prices. I ordered it medium hot, which in the past had been plenty hot for me. I don't think they put a lot of sauce on it - it was a little bland. But they have all of their variety of sauces out and available for you to take back to your table. I tried both the medium and hot (they have extra and extra-extra hot...). I didn't really taste much difference between them. My meal was delicious. I ended up taking half of it home with me.

It manages to strike that rare balance between upscale sophistication and the high-energy "service at the speed of light" that defines a world-class steakhouse. Here is a breakdown of what makes it a magnificent choice. 1. The Meats: A Carnivore's Symphony The star of the show is, without question, the Picanha. This prime cut of top sirloin is seasoned simply with sea salt and roasted to perfection. When the gaúchos carve it tableside, the outer layer is beautifully seared while the center remains incredibly succulent. Diversity of Cuts: From the garlic-heavy Cordeiro (lamb) to the tender Filet Mignon and the smoky Costela (beef ribs) that fall off the bone with the slightest nudge of a fork. The "Green Means Go" System: The service is relentless (in the best way). As long as your card is green side up, a parade of skewers will arrive, ensuring your plate is never empty. 2. The Gourmet Salad Bar Calling it a "salad bar" feels like an understatement. It is an architectural display of fresh, high-end ingredients that could easily stand as a meal on its own. Highlights: Huge wheels of aged cheeses (like Grana Padano), smoked salmon, marinated artichokes, giant grilled asparagus, and traditional Brazilian feijoada (black bean stew). Freshness: Everything is crisp, vibrant, and replenished so frequently it feels like you're the first person to plate a serving. 3. Atmosphere & Service The ambiance is warm, dimly lit, and refined, making it perfect for anything from a high-stakes business dinner to an anniversary. Authentic Hospitality: The staff are knowledgeable and move with a choreographed precision. They don't just serve food; they share the culture of the Rio Grande do Sul. The Sides: Don't overlook the warm pão de queijo (cheese bread) or the caramelized bananas, which serve as the perfect palate cleanser between savory bites. 4. The Final Verdict Chama Gaúcha isn't just a meal; it's an investment in indulgence. You don't go there for a quick bite; you go there to be treated like royalty while exploring the very best of Southern Brazilian grilling. Pro Tip: Save a little room for the Papaya Cream dessert. It's light, refreshing, and topped with a swirl of Crème de Cassis to perfectly round out a heavy meal. 5 star

BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY…read more Mesón Sabika is a truly beloved restaurant with whom I have a complicated history. ______________________ ***REVIEW #1,300*** ______________________ As hundredth milestone reviews go, this one is deeply personal -- I was supposed to have my wedding & reception here in March 2020.  That never happened due to things far beyond my control (damn pandemic) and I've been not-so-secretly pining for that moment ever since. I wound up tying the knot with the love of my life at a nearby park but without any of the fanfare, guests, food, liquor, live band, florist, or photographer.  We had already placed a sizeable deposit on a food & bev package, so when Mesón management abruptly raised the prices on us by 20% due to "volatile market pricing", we accepted a buyout in the form of gift certificates. Between dine-in and carryout orders, over the next 18 months we ate here a LOT.....I'll admit it was fun treating family & friends to dinner with reckless abandon.  Each experience was great, from the service and ambiance to the small plates and sangria.  We did get pretty ill following one visit, although I suspect it came from another guest in the vicinity, rather than a bout of food poisoning. The picturesque mansion - built in 1847 - is elegant but cramped inside, so I recommend dining on the gorgeous patio if weather permits.  Prices for tapas are the same regardless of lunch or dinner, although they do have entree specials unique to both meals (and their delicious paella is exclusive to dinnertime). Without going into crazy detail about each cold dish (of which there are 15) or hot tapas (of which there are 23), I'll call out a few highlights: the bacon-wrapped dates ($14), the duck confit ($16), the cold garlic potato salad ($15), goat cheese w/poached pear ($15), cured salmon in dill cream cheese ($14) and grilled skirt steak ($19). Their paella is great and feeds 3-4 people; I recommend the 'campesina' ($25 with chicken & chorizo) unless you're big on seafood, in which case the 'mariscos' ($42 with shrimp, mussels, clams, scallops, and octopus) might be up your alley.  Desserts are splendid, especially the crème brûlée ($12) and the pear tart ($12). The servers are all male (it's a Catalan thing) and very attentive.  Order a pitcher of white or red house sangria and let all your troubles melt away until you're set adrift on memory bliss.  Or until they kick you out. * TL;DR * Just like the 'tarta de chocolate' on their dessert menu, Mesón stirs up feelings in me that are poignantly bittersweet. On one hand, I've been here 10 times and have nothing but praise for the kitchen + atmosphere.  On the other hand, whenever I see the staff prepping the adjacent event space for a wedding, I get wistful and cry a teeny bit inside.  Couldn't the COVID outbreak have waited one more month, until after my nuptials? The restaurant biz is tough with plenty of overhead, but Mesón is still chugging along and serving the same excellent tapas since 1990.  Anyone who's ever dined here can attest it's a gorgeous venue with spectacular food and professional service. I highly recommend Mesón Sabika for lunch or dinner, and if you're considering having a wedding here, do it.  Hopefully you'll have better luck than me.

Let me start with the setting because it genuinely earns its reputation. The grounds are stunning…read moreand you can immediately understand why people book weddings here. It's a beautifully converted old mansion with manicured outdoor spaces and an elegant interior. The white tablecloth atmosphere delivers on the promise of a special night out. That said, if you're coming expecting a transportive Spanish dining experience, temper those expectations. A few decorative plates on the walls aside, the space reads more traditional Southern manor than Iberian escape. Charming, yes. Spanish, not really. Now the food, because that's where things get interesting. The cream of rice soup was a genuine highlight. Buttery, brothy, deeply comforting. The kind of dish that makes you lean in after the first spoonful. The baguette served alongside it though? Stale. Sliced too far in advance and the butter arrived ice cold, straight from the fridge. At $100 plus per person, that is a detail that matters. The Queso con Pacanas had beautiful individual components but suffered from what became a recurring theme of the night: strong flavors competing rather than collaborating. The pungent cheese steamrolled everything else on the plate. The wine soaked pears showed up again later on the Chuleta de Cerdo, and while the idea is lovely, serving a pear half unsliced in a fine dining context means you're asking the guest to do compositional work that the kitchen should have already done. The Jamón Iberico is the most expensive item on the menu and the meat itself is worth every penny. Nutty, buttery, exceptional on its own. But the parmesan blanketing the flatbread crisps overpowered it completely, and a lone raw garlic clove sitting on the plate with no instruction is not fine dining. Our server was sweet enough to explain you're meant to rub it on the cracker yourself, and she handled it with grace, but that explanation should not have been necessary. The Patatas Bravas were well seasoned with a solid aioli but landed mushy rather than crispy. A miss. The Gambas a la Plancha was the clearest win of the evening and not by coincidence. It was the simplest dish. Well seasoned shrimp, bright lemon butter, nothing fighting for attention. Sometimes restraint is the whole answer. The Chuleta de Cerdo had a beautifully cooked, smoky and peppery pork chop and a mushroom sauce that genuinely complemented it. But then the cinnamon heavy root vegetable puree pulled the whole plate in a completely different direction. Our server was genuinely wonderful, funny and warm and attentive even while training a new hire. She was the clearest bright spot of the service experience and the one thing we left talking about fondly. We left the rest of the meal a little baffled. The head chef hails from Valencia, and we were told that influence shows in the food. Maybe it does and our palates just weren't reading it. But between the confused flavor profiles, the inconsistent execution, and a cuisine identity that felt more scattered than intentional, we walked out laughing and scratching our heads more than satisfied. Beautiful place. Lovely server. The food just never quite found itself.

Anyway, decided to order delivery via Uber eats from an O'Hare Hotel while on a layover. Upon opening my delivery, I have to admit, I was both surprised and disappointed. Surprised because I didn't order fries or perhaps I didn't know that fries came with the bowl or skewer that I did order, but they were good and probably would've been better warmer if I had dined in. The disappointment, though, came from my readiness to devour what looked and smelled delicious, but found absolutely no utensils provided. Quite annoying. After a trip to the lobby, I returned and dug in. The chicken bowl was interesting. Everything tasted good separately, but I don't think that the combination of all things together is for me and that's ok. It felt very eclectic, but not in a good way. Perhaps the combination of the different flavors and textures just wasn't for me. Individually, though, everything tasted yummy, and it's just the bowl that isn't for me. The skewer was probably what I should've just stuck with. But you live and you learn. I wish the skewer were more saucy. With some other sauces ordered on the side, the medium is probably my favorite so that's good to know. In both plates, the chicken thigh was juicy and tender. Despite some things that just could've been better for me, I would do it again but in person if possible.
