You would hope that getting a gyro at a place with gyro in the name would blow you away. I ordered the jr gyro combo with small fries and small drink (no free refills) for $18? Never seen a whole slice of tomato, couldn't be bothered to dice it up? Meat and sauce hanging off one end. Had to get in there and get dirty to even it out. Fries are fresh cut and pretty good, but they only hand you an ounce of ketchup in a cup. Sat down and noted the root beer was flat. They poured another one and seemed better. Tzatziki sauce didn't seem very good. I would take a bite of tomato first, not great and nibble on the sandwich. Video slots seemed odd but what ever pays the bills. Best gyros around!! I started coming here as a kid in 1976. My dad used to pick up sandwiches to eat for my brothers T-ball games at the Addison Park District. They were so tasty and delicious my brother and I always shared it because the portion was so large. The portion is still a good size although the cost is a little different. I now live in the far western suburbs and drive 30 minutes just to come back. My kids like the fries, they are hand cut and made individually to order And the baklava is superb. I cannot have it from any other place. For 50 years of my life, I have enjoyed these Gyros sandwiches. I cannot get them anywhere else and have the same satisfaction. Thank You !!!! read more

I would not come back here and I live up the street... I got a chicken gyro, gyro plate, and a Greek salad (added grilled chicken). Nothing special about any of it. $80 bucks is insane for a a fast food gyro hut. $30 for gyro plate that made 2 allright sized gyros. Chicken gyro tasted like lunch meat. The Greek salad had 1 olive and a bunch of lettuce no other veggies . $8 dollar up charge for grilled chicken that should allready be included in a $16 dollar salad.... For $80 dollars I could have gone to a sit down Greek restaurant and had everything I ordered plus better quality and better environment. This location is nothing more than a hot dog joint and to be charging that much money for gyros and salads you would think it's a 5 star sit down. I understand everything is expensive these days but this was just outrageous and the food was okay. If you want to get good food and a reasonable price do not go to gyro express! If I can eat a gyro plate in a sitting then that's a problem. For $30 dollars I was very upset. I don't understand how this place even remains open. The best Gyros. Thats all I've got to say. But they do come at a cost. Prices are higher than you'd expect (soft drinks especially). But I still HAVE to come here to eat those delicious Gyros, they are worth the price of admission for sure. We've learned how to order and work the menu. It used to be reasonably priced and you could sit and watch Wheel of Fortune while competing with the other customers. It's just not the same. He justifies his prices by telling you the prices he pays went up. So did everyone else's. The problem lies in how much he wants for profit. He could drop his prices to make them reasonable but doesn't. Too proud. The service is good. Mom and son charge $1.90 for a little cup of ketchup with a smile. Ketchup is free at most fast food places in this country. The ambiance is typical Gyros place with beautiful pictures of Greece. The floor is swept and the tables are wiped clean. My wife and I have had their food over the past 27 years in Villa Park. The food is excellent, but in my opinion the food is a bit pricey.

Been coming here for 20 years as it's close to the house. They do have the best gyros around. The menu is pricey, hence the 4 stars, but believe me I've looked and tried to find cheaper alternatives in the area. I guess you get what you pay for...nothing nearby can compete. The gyro is the only thing I've ever ordered, and it's always very, very good. Great tzatziki sauce, the pita is always hot and fresh and they manage to have red tomatoes in the middle of winter. Meat comes in thick strips and is garlicky and flavorful. The gyro plate is good for two people-it comes with enough for 2 sandwiches and fries. Takes a minute to get food but it's hot when you do. Place looks like your typical Chicago hot dog stand with counter service. They have plenty of tables and gambling if that's your thing. It's clean and the owner is friendly enough Plenty of other items on the menu-dogs, burgers, and greek specialties-but I only come by for gyros which can't be beat....just don't forget your wallet. read more

My parents started coming to Gyros Express back in the 1980s. It was a staple and we would frequently dine out on Friday evenings here. Longevity is something that doesn't happen very often, so they did do something right. The main reason for a two star review is the prices. They get an extra star for their longevity. When you go to a restaurant and you feel taken advantage of when you're given your total, that's a problem. There is no value in paying $22.99 for a gyros plate. That is straight up taking advantage of peoples wallets. Do yourself a favor, drive a few miles northeast, and go to Yorky's in Elmhurst where a Gyros Plate cost $14.99 and arguably better atmosphere and service. Mr. Kiagis, turn back the clock and lower your prices a bit, and maybe you'll see some faces you havent seen in awhile return to your establishment. read more

Overpriced and not worth it. A disappointment. They charge 3.99 for a side of Feta Cheese. You can buy a container at the store for the same price if not less. All I ordered was one Gyro for $11 and two sides of feta cheese...the total came out to $21. For that price, I could have bought Ramen instead. The most expensive broth around. Avgolemono but without chicken, and it's definitely not the consistency it should be. Avgolemono is a thicker, heavier soup. This was all broth for $14. I've been going there for over 20 years as a loyal customer and when the pandemic hit, I would go there once a week and they would bring my food out to my car. Even when the prices went up because of cost of food went up, I continued to go there, but it's a little ridiculous when you get a Gyros platter and pay like you're ordering a filet mignon steak. Whatever happened to the customer is always right because when they screwed up my order and I went in to talk to the owner, he turned around and made it sound like I made the mistake. I love lamb. And while I don't eat gyros often, I certainly appreciate a well-made one. So, when my girlfriend's family recommended I give Gyro Express a try, I thought, why not? Oh dear lord, it was bliss. I got their traditional gyro with shaved lamb and beef. It comes with creamy tzatziki sauce, onions, and tomatoes on a fluffy pita. I also got their house made baklava for dessert, and a really delightful Greek lager. I can't eat like this every day, but the next time I want a treat, I'll definitely go back. I needed to check out this spot as it has been recommended to me quite a few times. During my visit I ordered a gyro plate which came with gyro, two pitas, fries, and all the fixin's for $18.99. It seems a bit expensive, but it's A LOT of food, I actually split it with one other person and we could barely finish it! We also ordered a spinach pie and baklava. I took off one star since the spinach pie wasn't my favorite, it was very soggy, but in their defense, it could be from it being wrapped and traveling home. I will have to try it in store next time. Our friends had, I think, a gyro and a pocket. But the star was their saganaki, which they graciously shared. Man- I've had it in fancy restaurants but it wasn't half this good. Yes, hands down the BEST fresh sliced Gyros ever to hit my taste buds. Quality is what I treat myself to and Gyros Express passes the test with flying colors. Seriously if heaven ever asked me to bring catering for the people upstairs, I would bring trays of their fresh cut fries and gyros slices to spend eternity. The Tzatziki sauce (gyros sauce) is made perfect bursting with flavor and when drenched over onions & tomatoes, it takes it to a whole new level.
