Finally...my search for beautiful, healthy hair is over...part 1 I wanted to take the time to write this review for the Vasken Demirjian Salon in White Plains, NY because I feel such a sense of relief and heaviness lifted off of my shoulders. As much as I love my previous salon and stylist, I just wasn't happy with the continued foil color process every 6-8 weeks and straight across the back cut with the angle in the front that most salons produce in my area. Over the years and especially this past year, I've been going longer than 8 weeks for color and/or skipping a trim all together. My combination of routinely foiling and styling my very dark, brunette mane to golden flecks of blonde has really taken a toll on the overall health of my hair that I finally had enough this past July. I knew I had to make a move and I cancelled my scheduled appointment for my traditional cut and foil and embarked on a mission to find a more healthy and beautiful way to take care of my hair. It was the best decision I ever made. Hands down. Let me explain why. First of all, you need to understand what I truly want for my hair to understand why Vasken Demirjian and his select group of trail blazers are my perfect fit. Simply put, I want healthy...WOW....camera ready...old glam Hollywood...sun kissed beachy...looks great at 5 pm or if I just got out bed....Low maintenance but looks like I spend a lot of time on it...sexy, hot hair. I know it's a lot to ask for, but VS delivered. I literally took 2 full days to research hair styles, stylists that were able to achieve the look that I desired. I read countless articles on mending broken hair and found olaplex. I knew I wanted this new hair painting craze labeled balayage to keep my light, lock look but no one really advertised it around me and my previous stylist just looked at me funny when I mentioned it. Every picture that was coming up was coming straight out of LA or NYC. But somehow, I ended up on Yelp and found Vasken Salon. At first glance, the salon pictures were nothing short of amazing. Modern in design and well thought out. I immediately thought to myself, if this man can win best salon design and display this much concern for his esthetic surroundings, what can he do for hair? That's when I started swiping through the pictures of hair that him and his staff were producing. For the first time in a long time, I was hair hopeful. VS was clearly creating what I was longing for. I continued to read the reviews. I came across Mauro. Everyone raved. "The best haircut I ever had"..."you can't go wrong"...I set my nerves aside and decided to start with a cut with Mauro. I figured I could let him cut my ends, maybe give me that long, not so uniformed, v-shaped layered look I've been searching for. I wanted Vasken to look at my 3 inch regrowth, one dimensional color and offer a solution as to how to proceed. When I booked my cut, that's exactly what they suggested: Mauro to cut and let him and Vasken evaluate your hair and formulate a plan. There was no rush. Just a conscious plan of action. I was so excited. I even booked a hair treatment for my mother so she could experience this and offer her 2 cents. Thursday couldn't come soon enough. And then Thursday came. Vasken just so happened to be at the front desk when we arrived. My first words to him were "I've been waiting a long time for you- you need to help me with all this", as I twirled my hair addressing my mane. He sheepishly grinned and put my concerns to rest conveying I had little to worry about - "ask Mauro to give you sexy hair." I knew immediately, I found home. He speaks my language. I mean, what woman doesn't want to have sexy hair? Isn't that what every stylist is supposed to do? If not, they should. Mauro. My Brazilian, Zen artist. You are perfect. I wouldn't say you cut my hair. Maybe "sculpted it" defines it best. In reality, I don't know exactly how to describe it. And when I do, I use a lot of hand motions and descriptors to give my girlfriends and audience the full effect. Forgive me. I know I don't do you justice with my explanation but my hair speaks for itself. It lays beautifully. Just the right amount of layer to emphasize my Polish-chiseled cheekbones. There is just the right amount of volume. I don't even have to curl it if I don't want to. And it looks so sleek even when I wear it straight. You even cut it so I truly didn't need to have to get my hair colored. It looked that good. You wanted me to let my hair grow out claiming that I didn't need a another cut for at least 6 months if I treated my hair right and this cut you gave me would grow out even better than what you so creatively did at that moment. I wanted to make my first review be a truly special one and this salon experience definitely warrants it. When I look for a great salon, I also look for an unparalleled experience, besides the actual haircut itself. Being in the service industry, it provides an opportunity for me to break away from the daily stress and this place delivered like no other! I booked a whole morning of services starting with manicure, pedicure, shave and haircut. Vasilios came highly recommened so I booked my haircut with him. What followed next was highly unexpected and not the norm in the service industry. Upon pulling up to the salon, Vasilios himself came out and had a gentleman valet my car so I wouldnt walk more than 2 feet from the salon entrance. This WOWed me immediately. He escorted me inside and personally introduced me to the staff giving me a warm welcome for the first time. The salon itself is extremely elegant and luxurious, however not pretentious in any way. Every employee that walks by smiles and is extremely pleasant. Vasilios directed me towards Darya for my manicure and pedicure. He had an assistant bring me espresso and water the second I sat down to ensure my comfort and happiness. He checked in periodically to see if I needed anything. Darya provided a great service with a pedicure that left my feet feeling exquisite. I then went on to get shampooed by Elizabeth who proceeded to give me the best head and scalp massage Ive ever experienced. Forget the fact that the chairs are incredibly comfortable and fully recline, but she was so incredibly sweet and professional. Vasilios meanwhile kept checking on me to make sure I was comfortable, relaxed and ready for my haircut. It was on to my haircut and I told Vasilios that I wanted to do something a little different. I like to stay up to date on men's fashion and trends and told him I wanted a variation on my current cut. He was so clear and concise about what he was going to do before the cut that I immediately knew I was in good hands. Vasilios introduced to me Vasken the owner who was an absolute gentleman. He then had his assistant bring me over a drink and told me to sit back, relax and enjoy the experience. I was informed to immediately let him know if I needed anything, but I could see the second he started cutting that he was a true seasoned professional. On top of his professionalism, he was incredibly funny, polite and personable. I've received numerous haircuts in upscale salons in NYC, LA and Las Vegas and he definitely matched if not exceeded those experiences. Three quarters of the way throught the cut, he graciously requested his colleague Bulent to come over and assist with my shave since he was using a straight razor. Bulent was also a consummate professional with his technique. As my haircut was coming to an end, I could immediately see the vision I had in my head come to fruition and I couldnt have been happier. I was taken back over for a rinse and Vasilios finished off this magical experience with some product and styling for a final touch. He personally walked me back to the front door, had my car retrieved for me and proceeded to thank me for putting my trust in him and for a wonderful morning and afternoon. I want to thank Vasken, the staff and most importantly Vasilios for provding me with not only an amazing haircut, but an experience second to none! I will definitely be seeing you soon! read more

Five stars for this salon and I'll make sure to tell you exactly why you have to go here: I'm an extremely anxious person when it comes to getting my hair cut. I grew up in Manhattan and only went to one salon. I stumbled upon Vasken's through Yelp and remembered it was it located across the street from my apartment. While I researched the salon, I was comforted to know it was apart of the best salons in the world and had really great reviews - i went for it. Making an appointment was easy and they sent me a text, as a reminder. My appointment was at 9 a.m., right when they opened, making me the first guest of the day. Vasken met me at the door and we started talking, not to mention he took my jacket and hung it up for me. (you don't see such humble business owners these days.) he asked me what I wanted to do with my hair and advised, based on what I was envisioning. not only were we having great hair talk, but we were having such great conversation. He asked me if I drink espresso, I said of course, I studied abroad in Florence last semester, and he made me a cappuccino, with their espresso machine in the back, thus switching our topic of conversation Italy. we enjoyed speaking so much that he told me he would give me a free gift of color. this made me so happy to not only know I could connect with such a successful business owner, but that he was so caring and honest. I was placed with Lisa, who cut my hair short and stylish. she spent such a great amount of time on my hair, ensuring me that she would produce a great hair cut- which she did! Lisa was thoughtful, immensely talented and was a great listener. (she really produced the style I wanted!) when vasken got to coloring my hair, he said he was going to give me a bayleage (sp?). i was nervous at first, as i haven't dyed my hair in a while, but he ensured me it was going to look sexy and natural, which definitely described the final product. the time and care Vasken's salon puts into their guests is unmeasurable and incomparable. this is the salon that I always want to go to and hopefully you do too! read more

I came to Vasken Salon for the first time after hearing great things and reading great reviews. I have been in search of a fabulous salon and stylist who truly cares about and listens to their clients. I have been to many salons where the stylists are more interested in their conversations with the other stylists, pay little attention to their client in the chair, and can get lazy- especially if you've been a client for awhile. That always frustrated me over the years because I'd leave unhappy with the haircut or color and feeling like the stylist didn't listen to what I really wanted my hair to look like. I also have long hair and have had a hard time finding a stylist that really knows how to cut and style long hair without losing so much of the length. I visited Mauro today at Vasken, and he is nothing less than FABULOUS! He took the time when I arrived to look closely at my hair and consult with me on what I was really looking for in a haircut. He had great energy from the moment I sat in his chair and made me feel relaxed and trusting in his ability to give me an amazing cut and style! Not only do I LOVE my haircut, but I love that he gave me such a great cut without my being in his chair for hours! His Assistant, Tiffany, was great too! She was so nice, made me feel very relaxed while washing my hair and made a great cappuccino too! Vasken greeted me and talked to me as well, which made it nice to feel welcomed, especially since I was a new client at the salon. I would definitely recommend Mauro and the fabulous Vasken salon team when you are looking for a great salon! Also, if you have long hair and are hesitant to go to a stylist for fear of your hair being "chopped", fear no more and visit Mauro at Vasken! I will definitely be back there to see Mauro and am excited to see what he does with my color the next time! His expertise and knowledge about color and style is exceptional! Can't say enough wonderful things about Vasken, his attentive, talented, and friendly staff, the service, architectural decor, and how thrilled I am with the color and blowout I received yesterday which (amazingly) exceeded my expectations. Being Asian and having naturally thick, jet black hair, coloring at home had always been a challenge; results were either unnaturally streaky or the exact opposite with mundane, "blah" results. Had hoped that salons in NYC would be able to do a better job, but was disappointed enough times by their attempts to achieve "subtle yet visible" highlights that I finally gave up on coloring for the last 2 years. After seeing great reviews about Vasken and his staff, decided to give his salon a shot and so happy that I did! Went in yesterday with a groupon for partial highlights and a gloss treatment, and expected to maybe be treated as a "groupon client" but this was not the case at all. Vasken personally took the time to assess my hair needs and immediately advised that instead of going with streaky highlights, it would be better to try an alternate coloring technique which would achieve a more natural and organically highlighted effect while maintaining the health and vitality of my hair. Between the collaborative efforts of Vasken (with his masterful coloring techniques), John (colorist), and the wonderful Arta (colorist-in-training who did everything from shampoo and gloss to blow out my hair), could not be happier with the results! Vasken is a true artist when it comes to hair color/styling and genuinely cares about each and every one of his clients. Left with a huge smile on my face and will definitely spread the word! This week I had my first ever keratin treatment with Vasilios, and he completely exceeded my expectations. Prior to getting the treatment, I had invested a lot of time into finding where to go and who to see. Having spoken with so many different stylists, Vasilios was by far the most knowledgeable, helpful and experienced. He has a real flair and feel for how to apply the treatment and works with a certain rhythm and focus that is unsurpassed. Really, his process is a true art form. Vasilios was able to evaluate my hair type, understand it's natural tendencies, and adjust his technique accordingly to match my goals and give me the best results possible. He even went above and beyond to clean up my ends and make sure my hair looked fabulous before leaving the salon. Twenty-four hours into the 72-hour waiting period to wash, my hair is already visibly smoother, shinier, and softer to the touch. I still have the volume I wanted at my roots, and this is a great feeling. Truly, everyone at Vasken Salon was so kind and attentive. In fact, the first person I encountered when entering the salon was Vasken himself, and he was an absolute delight. Vasken's sincerity and concern for his clients is unmatched and reflected in everyone working at the salon. For anyone still in the process of deciding where to go and who to see, I hope my advice can be of value to you. I was very nervous to try a keratin treatment, but I am truly glad that I did. More importantly, I am so happy that I trusted in Vasilios! He was so fun, takes the utmost pride in his work, and is truly genuine and good-hearted. I highly recommend him! read more

Had a wonderful experience from start to finish. John listened to my horror story about a cut and color I had recently received just after having my baby. I was looking to get a cut and color that helped me feel less like a new mother and more like my old self again. I had asked for a trim with cooler blonde highlights, not warm. I even had two pictures to show her. The other stylist had instead chopped my hair into a mom haircut (ugh) and gave me yellow warm-toned highlights with warm low lights. Definitely not processed long enough. Fast forward to my experience at Vasken. John really listened to me and talked through my options. He didn't talk my ear off while putting in the foils (another plus because I just wanted to relax with a magazine). He went right to work. After processing, he stood at the sink and reviewed each section of foils to make sure that they were ready to be washed out. Awesome. Love the meticulous work ethic here. Next, Lauren dried my hair. She was the first stylist who has ever asked me how I wanted to have it blown out. She was great. Finally, Vasken stopped me on the way out to get an honest opinion on how everything went. He asked me who worked on my hair, and how I liked it. He asked me if there was anything that could have been done better. Again, in all my years going to salons, I've never had that level of care and attention. Have you ever been to a salon where it feels high end and is filled with snobby stylists? You won't find that here. It was clean, chic and everyone was awesome. I am looking forward to my next visit for sure. read more

I'd been considering trying a new salon for some time, as I felt things had become a little stagnant and repetitive with my previous stylist for awhile now. I saw a Groupon for highlights at Vasken and decided to give it a try. I researched, read the reviews, and noted that approximately 80%, or more, of the reviews seemed to be about Mauro, and each and every one of them was a rave. From the time I called to make my appointment, till I left the salon, everyone at Vasken was friendly, accommodating and helpful. Mauro was warm and welcoming from the moment I met him. He took the time to get to know me, inquire as to what I was looking for, and familiarize himself with my hair. His knowledge and demeanor secured my confidence immediately. He offered suggestions, explained his reasoning behind them, and carried them out flawlessly. While styling my hair, he took the time to stop and provide me with tips on how to best achieve the style at home, on my own. My highlights brightened and brought life back to my hair, and my cut is versatile and moves with its natural flow, instead of fighting it. Upon my return home, my daughter commented that this was the first time, in quite awhile, that I actually came home from the salon happy with the outcome. I've received so many compliments, I've lost count. Bottom line - I'm sold on Mauro and the entire Vasken experience. I encourage anyone reading this to sit back, relax and put their confidence, and their hair, in Mauro's talented hands. I certainly intend to do so from now on. This is hands down the best salon I have ever been to on the entire east coast!!!! I live 4 hours away from this salon but honestly it is more then worth the drive. This is my hair horror story that turned into a romance. I'm from MA and was in White Plains this past weekend for a wedding. I had gotten my hair done in MA 2 weeks prior and the women that did my hair completely killed it. I wanted an ombre and she totally over processed it. Not only did it kill my ends it turned my hair green!!! I was so upset and didn't know what i was going to do before this wedding. I was on yelp looking for some where close to my hotel and this salon came up with great reviews. I called and made an appointment but I had no idea what i was in store for. This salon is beautiful and every single person there was so friendly! Vasken was so nice to me! He promised to fix my hair and he went above and beyond! He got me back to my natural color with out masking the mistake with a darker color and brought it back to life. Its healthy and beautiful again! Alyssia trimmed and styled it for me perfectly for the wedding i felt so beautiful and received so many compliments!! Alyssia also styled my mother for the wedding and she looked amazing! Mauro styled my sister with beautiful curls and lots of volume! We all looked gorgeous. I can not thank everyone there enough for helping me! (pics below) I booked with alinda because of all the positive reviews from happy/ satisfied customers.... let me just say, she honestly meets all that was said & beyond !! walking into the salon for the firat timw I knew my red/purple hair was a challenge but she took it on with no doubts that she could get me to where I wanted & she most definitely did !! I am someone who changes my hair color allllll the time and (almost) every one knows reds and purples are extremely hard to remove from your hair especially when you are trying to go blonde ( if you didn't know, now you know lol) alinda did this amazing transformation in *just two* visits!!! In all my salon visits throughout the years, i've never had someone able to do what she did in just two visits!! - she really is magic, not to metion very sweet, personable and friendly, as well as the all of the other stylists at vasken!! ) The salon it's self is very clean and professional. They were very efficient with scheduling my appointment & honoring my personal time, not having me wait around to get started when I have an appointment, is huge !!! I have been to salons where they overbook and have had me waiting for a long time before even getting me into the chair !! I have been to the Vasken Demirjian Salon twice. The first time was for a stellar hair cut with Mauro. He brings incredible intention and precision to the process. I got a great haircut. He is a special man. The second time was for highlights with the supremely talented Vasken himself. He takes great pride in his work, and it shows. He is a real master colorist and delivered exactly what I was looking for. Over time, the color job somehow just gets better. Nothing faded, and the color looks even richer now. Today, three weeks after my color job a friend of mine tells me how gorgeous my highlights are, and how she can't even believe how "real" they look, like my hair just grew this way! The color is totally perfect for both what I wanted but also for my complexion, and a perfect complement to my eyes. Vasken both listens to what you are looking for, but also gently guides the process to make sure you will look your best. The staff is very gracious and professional. The coffee...my goodness I think it was the best cappuccino I have ever had. The decor is modern & stylish. I love the rinsing sink, which amazingly rises up and down to comfortably rest on your neck and shoulders customized to your exact height. Everything about this salon is done impeccably. I have been looking for a high quality salon like this for years since moving to Westchester. Added bonus that the service is so gracious, and oh yeah, you will look fabulous after. read more

Last week I had my first TWO experiences here and I cannot say enough positive things. The salon itself is beautiful. Customer service is impeccable even before you walk in the door. Receptionists are very friendly and inviting. They will even offer you cappuccino - such an unexpected treat! Additionally, the skill level cannot be beat. I have never been more satisfied with my color. Lindsey did a wonderful job and I will definitely be coming back to see her from now on. While I was not sure exactly how to describe what I was looking for, staff members worked together to decide on the perfect shade for me. She inspired my full confidence right away and I walked out with a wonderful color. I have received numerous compliments since! When I found out that the salon offers threading, I called and made an appointment with Sabit for the following day. I have had my eyebrows threaded for years and can truly say he is the best. He was very meticulous and the shape I walked away with was perfect. The overall experience was relaxing and I could not have asked for anything more. Both days, I had short conversations with Vasken. He was pleasant and truly goes above and beyond to make each client feel special while they are in his salon. Vasken's passion and mastery for his art shines through in every hair color cocktail he personally designs and then applies to his clients. I personally travel nearly 30 miles to the salon, as I know I will get the best look that money can buy. When I leave the salon, my hair has the shine and the color dimension that it once naturally possessed. Vasken now achieves this look by strategically adding high and low lights, in addition to seamlessly covering my roots, and using a clear glaze. Vasken has very high standards for his salon and his personnel. I can't say enough about the great haircuts and styles Aysen gives to her clients. Recently, as a treat, I brought my 16- year-old daughter for a long-needed haircut to Aysen. It was a pleasure to watch her proceed with confidence and skill to create the same exact style of a celebrity pic we had brought to show her. In addition to the great service in the Salon, I enjoy hearing Vasken's views on fashion, style, and specifics about the hair color and styling products he uses in his salon and the beauty industry in general. I recently also found out that his "pet peeve" is colleges and he from memory can tell what academics and sports they excel in and if they are known to be a party school. In my upcoming visits, I plan to further tap into this knowledge, as my 16-year-old daughter will be applying to colleges this fall. read more

After months of dealing with frizzy, unruly hair (thanks to the extreme humidity we've had), I finally decided to look into getting a keratin treatment. I know there are many places out there that offer discount keratin treatments, but I wanted to go somewhere I could trust. For me, paying a bit of a higher price for quality and safety is money well spent. I've been seeing Vasken for five years now for color. He is a true visionary and is unparalleled in his expertise. He's painstaking and obsessive about making sure my highlights are perfect. I will not trust anyone else with my color. For this reason, I immediately turned to Vasilios at the Vasken salon for my keratin. This guy is a keratin master! He explained in great details how keratin was going to benefit my hair and also gave me all the important info about caring for it post-treatment. After three hours and change, I walked out feeling like a new person--a person with way more beautiful hair than I had before. It's now 10 days later and my hair looks and feels like I've always dreamed--soft, silky, and gorgeous. The texture is still a touch wavy, which is what I wanted, but no flyaways or frizzies in sight. I'm so pleased with my hair and am extremely grateful to Vasilios. I can finally leave the house with my hair down--even on the most humid of days. read more
