Best breakfast tacos around. It is so hard to find authentic tasting tacos here in Austin, but this is as close as it gets in my opinion. The staff is always very friendly. It's a hole in the wall and by the looks of it, you'd never guess it was so delicious. My boyfriend and I do breakfast here (or sometimes pick up to go) almost every other weekend. The salsa is to die for, extremely hot! We get salsa to go and use throughout the week when we make tacos & it literally changes the game. They stuff their breakfast tacos too, they are not stingy at all! Their beans are probably the best I've had here in Austin. I typically order potato egg & bean tacos but my boyfriend loves their bean bacon & potato tacos. You really can't go wrong with any of their breakfast options. Ordered the chicken fajita salad and it was a total wash. Chicken wasn't prepared like fajita meat at all and adding guacamole cost 3.50! Insult to injury most of what went in this salad wasn't green but littered with croutons. Avoid and spare your taste buds and your pocket book. This used to be my secret lunch place...now they are packed all the time. I tend to judge a mexi joint on their chips/hot sauce. They win in both areas. Chips are always light and crispy and the hot sauce actually gets HOTTER as you eat it. Love the burn baby! I think I've tried everything on the menu, but my favorite is the fajita nachos. Yummmmmmmy. Parking is a nightmare and if you drive a small car, you may lose it in one of the Giganto potholes around the building. Oh..they have breakfast too. I decided to forfeit my usual taco spot for lunch one day because I had a taste for something different. So I asked Google Maps for taco locations near me and Vasquez popped up. On the way there, I decided to call my order in. I ordered a carne guisada taco and a beef fajita taco with cilantro and onion. I was told my order would be ready in ten minutes. I went inside and was greeted with smiles and gracious hellos from staff. My tacos were hot and ready. I paid and walked back to my car. In my ravenous state, I decided to eat them in the car. The carne quisada was PERFECT and so was the fajita taco!! Perfectly browned, homemade tortillas with fresh toppings. YUM! It was so good I had to come back today (two weeks later) and dined in. My server, Jorge was nice and greeted me with a smile. Another lady took my drink order. I ordered iced tea. It was unsweetend so I added some sweetener provided. I ordered a one enchilada plate and a fajita taco. While I waited, I snacked on the chips and wonderful salsa provided. The salsa was excellent. My food arrived shortly and everything was delicious. Well I guess I came in too early. Doesn't really matter if I did. Customer service should always be on point. Ordered tacos. Waited for a while. A couple came in and you can tell they come often or every morning on how they were treated. The old man was a Hispanic and made a comment as he passed by me they are always in the way? If I wasn't on my way to work I would have kicked him in his ass. I'm a black female and I don't tolerate disrespect and racism from anyone. Yes I know it's a Mexican restaurant. I guess it shouldn't matter. Was just there Saturday for lunch with a friend and the customer service was great. I guess because the owner was there. After Mike V.'s ROTD for this place, I definitely had to come check it out. The other reviews were not kidding when they said parking was scarce - I was lucky and got a spot easily, but definitely keep it in mind that you might be searching for a place to park. Totally worth it, though, even if you do have to search. Trust me - just make the parking happen and Vazquez will reward you with delicious Mexican food. The salsa was great and they serve it to you in a little pitcher so you can eat as much or as little as you want. Brilliant. The level of spice was perfect and it's a smooth salsa - no chunks here! Just like I like it. Chips were fresh and all of it was devoured within a few minutes because yum. I got the Sarita's Enchiladas, which comes with two cheese enchiladas with carne guisada gravy, rice, and beans. So. Freakin'. Good. I'm usually a painfully slow eater, but I practically inhaled this because it was delicious and I hadn't eaten all day. The carne guisada gravy comes with nice chunks of carne guisada. Yum, yum, yum. The rice and beans were super tasty, too, and you won't find any bland food here. Vazquez looks like a small town, hole in the wall Mexican restaurant, and I love that. OH...My...GOD! I love this place, so, so, sooooo much. Hole in the wall mom and pop looking storefront that I found out is actually a chain? No matter, if the food is good the food is good! I went first with some friends who were convinced that this Mexican was the place to beat and yeah...I agree with them. I had the breakfast tacos mid afternoon (breakfast all day, fuck yes) and they ordered the guisada, whatever...all of which was good. But my breakfast tacos were AMAZING. The bacon was whole, it was crispy, the tacos were fresh made. The migas was equally good. Everything came out fresh, perfect, hot and on fire because it's all made to order, and with a smile and a chip refill. I will take that any day of the week. I tried it again last week, on a Thursday night before closing. Also, just as good. I got the gorditas platter that reminded me of my fond love for hard to find arepas in the Austin area. Very, very yummy and also, came out flaming hot and on fire. I had a chicken and beef and both were good. The chicken was a little dry but whatever, it's valuable protein. Plus, the beans here...best beans I've had. I don't particularly like to admit that I like refried beans but they're so good here! The date ordered tacos al pastor. It was tasty but not served traditionally as it is in Mexico with the pineapple slice, etc. But still good for consumption. Really like this location...I'll have to see if the one closer to me is good too! And I see the negative reviews...I get it...but then again....I have had good experiences. I LOVE this place! In addition to the food being inexpensive and tasty, I am gluten intolerant, and I can safely eat all sorts of delicious items at Vazquez. They are very knowledgeable about gluten issues, and they are planning to open a 4th location (in Round Rock), which may end up being entirely gluten free. read more

This is a little hole in the wall place, but don't let the appearance fool you. The food is excellent and the staff very friendly. Their refried beans are the best I've tasted. I'm there usually 2-3 times a week for a late lunch. Prices are reasonable and portions are good. Parking lot is small, but no problems if you come just before or just after normal busy hours. read more

Eh. Not overwhelmed. I had the al pastor, and it somehow managed to be both greasy and dry at the same time. It doesn't seem like that would be possible, but it is. Greasy on the outside, dry on the inside. And the chunks of pork were so small that it was kind of a hassle to shepherd them all onto my tortilla. They did give me a fair amount of food, but it seemed a little pricey given the quality - I can't recall exactly, but it was probably $8 or $9 for the plate. Not a bad price in the grand scheme of things, but I'd personally rather get really outstanding tacos for a couple bucks a pop out of a trailer and forget the beans and rice. The atmosphere here is pretty basic, so you're not exactly paying for the experience. A bit out of my way, so I doubt I'll be back anytime soon. read more

We've been to several Vazquez locations in the Austin/Round Rock area, but this one is not our favorite. It's probably the biggest one we've been to, but has the smallest parking lot. We've only attempted to go on the weekends (still early, too!) and have to drive down the side street and park in a neighboring business's lot in order to eat here. We suppose that's ok, there's a sign that says "Vazquez Parking." But sadly the food we've had here isn't as good either. The bacon in our bean/bacon/potato breakfast tacos was undercooked to the point it wasn't anywhere near brown. So we'll continue to head north to the Round Rock location or west to the Research/Lake Creek Parkway location where we have yet to be disappointed in parking AND food quality. Maybe it was just this one time, but considering we've attempted to eat here several times before and weren't able to park anywhere at all, it's not worth our time to continue to try. read more

MMMMMMM....I just moved north and was in DESPERATE need of delicious tacos in my neighborhood. Vazquez Tacos is a perfect fit. They're hot sauce is consistently hot and delicious. I've eaten here for dinner, had the Vazquez Taco with sauce...Huge burrito, and all I could do not to eat it all and lick my plate. Fajita nachos are great. Ahh...a serious dive but great Mexican food!! One of the things I miss when I travel. Nothing like a good Vasquez Special early in the morning when you are trying to get over jet lag. Chorizo mixed into onions and two eggs, side of potatoes and re-fried beans. Chips and salsa on the side with a cup of coffee. Your typical greasy spoon type of Mexican place but the food is good. They have good Caldo and Menudo which most places don't offer and their tacos are quite substantial. I personally think their diced potatoes are the best and always order them as as side if I am not ordering a meal that already has it. :) read more

Seriously. The food + the price = OMG. My wife turned me on to this place when we first met. She's a bit of a taco connoisseur, so when a beautiful woman says "the tacos here are amazing", I listen. There are quite a few locations, but this one and the one on 183 and Lake Creek are boss. The sodas are 20 oz sodas for $2.50 and they bring you a new bottle every time for free. The chile tastes like the kind my grandfather makes every week and its so damn hot, you'll literally start sweating. I prefer the carnitas, barbacoa, and carne guisada tacos. The rice and beans are killer as well. The queso is hit or miss. It tastes like they scald it quite too often. It's for this reason alone that I prefer the Lake Creek location, because they seem to get it right most of the time. Any of these places are hole in the wall joints but they're clean. The wait staff doesn't speak english very well, so from brown person to you, that's a good sign. My wife's a huge fan of the beans and i think other than Rosa's cafe, these are her favorite. It's very hard to beat this place because everything tastes so amazing and the price can't be beat. The staff is quick with chip and drink refills and anything else you need. I love Vasquez! You can find me at Vasquez at least once a week. I usually get their breakfast tacos, all of which are amazing- though I usually get the bacon and egg, potato and egg, or chorizo and egg taco. I've tried many of the dinners on the menu, and they were all fantastic, as well. My absolute favorite thing at vasquez, though, has to be the salsa. Their salsa is so good I could drink it. I dream about their salsa. The place does look pretty run down, and parking can be a pain, but the food is excellent, the price is dirt cheap, and the waitstaff is very friendly, and always timely with their service. There's something about the way their cheese and eggs and bacon all come together inside their fresh tortillas that does it for me... My guy brings these home for the fam when he does early morning jobs on the weekends. Sometimes when he doesn't have jobs on the weekends, we'll go together... only I get him to go inside and place a to-go order while I sit in the car in my pj's and maneuver the parking lot. There are so few spaces and so many customers, that it's almost always necessary to park behind another patron, and keep an eye out for an open spot when someone leaves. My guy loves the picadillo and the barbacoa but, like I said, there's something so satisfying about the bacon, egg, and cheese that I'll never know how good anything else on the menu may or may not be. I've never stepped foot inside so I can't comment on the service, the staff, the cleanliness, the atmosphere, the bathrooms, if the music is too loud, or if the ventilation sucks, etc... but if the parking lots at this location and 183/Burnet location are any indication, they're doing something (besides tacos) right. I have been to the Vasquez on Research several times and loved it. So tried the location on Braker Lane. Big mistake!! The beef fajita meat in my gordita was over-cooked, dry and flavorless. I had also order a chicken enchilada with queso sauce. Received a cheese enchilada with gravy. Told my waitress and she brought me a chicken enchilada with the same horrible tasting gravy. Stopped by for a late lunch. I had driven by various times seeing that the parking lot was always full was curious to find out if it was really that good. Today I drove by again and saw there was an actual parking spot... I took it. When I walked in, the first thing that I saw was a lobby area with wood benches, ajacent to it the kitchen area, and then a large empty dining room. :O that should have given me the clue, but I said maybe its the time of day. The dinning area has a series of about eight large photographs mexican inspired. The first two you see, I believe, are pretty nice. The rest... weh ok. Mexican music playing at a good volume. There are various wood laminated tables, some laminated booth benches and some standard minimaly cushioned black steel chairs. It was clean. Received a basket of chips and salsa. The chips are standard storebought corn chips. The salsa served was ok, towards the end it had a mild burn and the flavor while a bit watery had good flavor (not sure if this was also canned stuff.) I ordered a very standard mexican dish... red cheese enchilada plate. Ehat could go wrong? The cheese used was a shredded yellow factory cheese, with partially heated refrigerated tortillas and a typical canned enchilada sauce. The refried beans too liquid and the rice well cooked, but lacking any flavor. How could a simple dish go so wrong. Was it eatable? Yes. I'm pregnant, it was eat or go postal. J/k. This is what I expected... properly heated corn tortillas, their own guajillo chile pod salsa, and some white cheese: monterrey jack min, asadero cheese, queso fresco... or something better on the inside and queso fresco lightly sprinkled on top. Maybe I ask too much when I am paying about $15 for this and a glass of unsweetened tea. The service was ok. Maybe in the distant future I will go back to see if they know how to cook their barbacoa. I believe in giving a place two opportunities... the first could be a fluke and the second confirms or proves other wise. Let's see what the future holds and if I return. Love breakfast tacos. I search for them anytime I'm out in the morning. I usually go to La Tapatia, Arandas, or Guadalajara for cheap breakfast tacos, but today I decided to try Vasquez. I'm giving a 2 star not because the tacos were bad. They were good. Pretty generic potato and egg, chorizo and egg, etc. Red salsa was actually very good. I enjoyed that. I'm giving it a 2 star because it's more expensive than the other restaurants of it's type. They charge $2.50 for a coke and $.25 for small ice and $.50 for large ice. Say what? I paid $1.30 for a taco!! Anyways. I've had better experience elsewhere. They weren't particularly friendly in there either. Will likely not go back. read more

Stumbled onto Vasquez tacos on 915 E. Braker. That's for a good breakfast taco and decided to give it a try on a Sunday morning. Place was hopping. Ordered a couple bacon egg tacos to go. Only took around five minutes. Tacos are not your usual throw a strip of bacon on some scrambled eggs but instead are more authentic mixture a bacon egg and seasoning. Tacos are good but not great Rojo Salsa is also good, a bit tomatoey. Everyone has their favorite local taco joint and I can see how locals would come here often.
