I was grateful they were able to get our Simba in same-day for a twisted toe-nail. The check in people were very nice. I took off a star and contemplated taking off another because of the price mainly. I was suggested to spend almost $3,000 to fix a toenail that twisted and needed to be removed. After going through the list, there was a lot of unnecessary suggestions like blood work. After going through it, it still ended up costing us about $800 for the visit, sedation, toe-nail removal, pain and anti-inflammatory meds, and some shots for nausea. I declined multiple other suggestions, that were not needed. Though the check in ladies were very friendly and the vet did get the job done. So ultimately even though it was extremely expensive I'm grateful they got him in same day and they fixed the toe-nail. read more

May be a fine vet for many ailments, but do not take your dog here if he is coughing, lethargic and not eating. All symptoms of Valley Fever which VCA Sierra Vista was completely unfamiliar with. We took our beloved Lab here twice in one week, neither the tech nor the vet even suspected Valley Fever, a life-threatening fungal infection common in Southern AZ. Luckily we found a great vet in Tucson who suspected Valley Fever immediately and ordered blood tests confirming. Our dog will recover thanks to our wonderful vet in Tucson. They are so caring for your pet. My 14 year old Basset Hound has chronic ear infections. One dose of a leave in prescription 30 days later no new infection and they gave him medicine for his arthritis in his hip, he is running like a puppy. So thankful to Dr Denney she is wonderful. I have a cat that can't be vaccinated. She had an allergic reaction. Apache will not see her because of that. Not all pets do well with vaccinations. Many have allergic reactions. Why does an indoor cat that is not around other animals need a rabies shot anyway? I have never had another vet refuse to see before. I can't recommend this vet. read more

If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. Dr Denney is the most wonderful vet I have ever dealt with. She is extremely caring and took such good care of my dog after she was attacked by another dog. She was the only vet in Sierra vista that would take her in as an emergency and I couldn't be more grateful for it. She and her team have also worked on a plan to take care of her heart worm treatment and Dr.Denney took her time to explain and go into detail on how her care would be. TAKE YOUR PETS ANYWHERE BUT HERE! Simple, honest business practices would have saved you from this review VCA. We recently adopted two kittens from the Sierra Vista animal shelter. The shelter has an AGREEMENT with this animal hospital to cover ALL of the adopted pets medical treatments and shots... provided you take your animal in within the specified time period. However, after taking our new kittens in for their first set of shots, they told us to schedule an appointment for the next set. Which according to the animal hospitals AGREEMENT with the shelter ARE INCLUDED in the adoption fee. My wife, having dealt with this vet previously, and having been told one thing only to later be told another, asked the counter staff THREE TIMES if that appointment was within the specified time frame for it to be included in the adoption AGREEMENT. The counter staff responded "Yes, absolutely IT IS INCLUDED with the adoption AGREEMENT and WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TIME FRAME". However, when my wife went in with the kittens on the day and at the time of the scheduled appointment, she was told by the staff, "I'm sorry, the AGREEMENT ended yesterday. The charges today will be $240." When my wife balked at this situation, the vet acted as if their hands were tied and then proceeded to put the blame on us for not scheduling the appointment sooner. If you remember, I stated earlier my WIFE ASKED THE COUNTER STAFF THREE TIMES TO MAKE SURE THAT THE APPOINTMENT WAS WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TIME FRAME and was told each time "YES". This vet has NO ETHICS or MORALS and shady business practices. Even if the counter staff had made a mistake, the vet SHOULD HAVE HONORED THEIR AGREEMENT. After this ridiculous exchange with this vet, I did some research and discovered that I can purchase the medicine from Tractor Supply. VCA Apache wanted to charge me $240 for these shots. I bought the medicine from Tractor Supply for $7.50 per kitten. STAY AWAY FROM THIS VET! THEIR PRACTICES ARE DESPICABLE AND THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. read more

They did give me a good faith refund on some of the medications I didn't use which I did very much appreciate. I still don't think all the prices they charge are fair (still questioning blood tests, etc), but they do offer excellent care which I don't dispute. All in all, I very much appreciate the extra effort to reach out to me to resolve my concerns and will consider returning for future issues- lessons learned and more aware of what I am willing to sign off on in terms of treatment plan. *********************** I feel like vets and mechanics operate with basically the same level of ethics. 90% of them are business focused and trying to make money off of you and will resort to whatever means necessary (emotional manipulation anyone?) to do so. The other 10% are honest, decent human beings that will charge you a fair price and educate you on what is best. VCA Apache falls somewhere in the middle. They were very friendly and concerned for my cat when I brought him in for a suspected snake bite. They treated both me and him with respect and care and wanted to offer the best solutions possible to take care of him. They were clean, professional and very tech savvy. That being said, they brought out a $700 estimated care plan- just for that appointment. I love my cat but we simply don't have that kind of money available to spend on him. In other news, did you know that a blood test for a human costs about $30? At VCA they were charging $180 for one and $120 for another. I declined both as well as the $50 pain injection they offered. I also feel a bit like my concern and emotions were used against me a bit because I did wind up getting the THREE doses of pain meds for $77. My husband is a doctor and his response to that was that he would never even offer such an expensive medication to a patient in similar condition. While my kitty's paw was tender, he was putting almost full weight on it. There was no need for that. Furthermore, I was charged an additional $25 for walking in without an appointment (for a snake bite- during normal business hours... with only one other person in the office to be seen). I walked out with a final bill of $280 and after a few doses of antibiotics my kitty healed fine. For what was ACTUALLY needed if I had known a bit more, I should not have paid more than about $150- at THEIR prices without the "upsells". Finally, my disclaimer- in all fairness, I have not talked to VCA myself to complain- so they have not had an opportunity to answer my concerns. I simply don't have the time and the bottom line for me is that if I have to fight to get a fair price I don't really want to do business with you anyway. read more

I have 3 dogs ranging in age from 12 to 2 years old and sizes from large to toy. They all get excellent care at this vet. Though sometimes the wait time even with an appointment has been long the staff is friendly and informative. They are very up front with their costs and have always provided a clear estimate prior to performing any extra services. The office is clean and easy to get to. They also provide boarding services and I had no issues the one time I have used them for boarding. But they do fill up quickly so plan in advance if you want to use their kennel. read more

It was a total of $59.00 for the visit and antibiotics. My dog had an oral tumor. To do blood work they wanted btwn $700-$800 for that alone. To have the tumor removed they quoted me $1200. That is way out of my price range as far affordable. I'm sure they are excellent in the services they provide and for the price they should be. The good news is that the vet who saw my dog and made matters worse is apparently leaving this office. The bad news....I spent a lot of money at this place for my dog to come back to me in worse condition than I left him. This facility is clean and a majority of the staff is really nice, but based on the vet who "cared" for my dog, we will never go back here. I pray that this vet who is leaving is never going to work anywhere else because she is unprofessional, rude, incompetent, and dishonest. She will tell you lies and change the story of what took place and she will most definitely talk over you. I took my cat in today for an emergency and was super impressed. (I was less so three years ago, but I have removed that review as these are all new people and they did a stellar job.) They -- the staff, the doctor, the vet tech -- were knowledgeable, compassionate, and didn't hard sell me. (There was some soft sell, but they listened to me.) All of the staff were kind and helpful. I had an old, old kitty pass away today, too, in a sad coincidence, and they helped me make cremation arrangements. I've created a yelp account just for this review. To start this place is awful! We have two weimaraners dogs which we took to this place for three years. I don't think we ever got out of a visit under $300. We went through 4 different vets and they were all awful. Not even one of them had a bit of social skills. They were always rude and would talk down to us. I don't think any of them actually liked animals. One of them somehow did a checkup on my dogs while standing on the other side of the room, not even touching them. That was the last straw. We've since started going to sierra animal hospital. We got a checkup, shots and claws trimmed for $95 and the vet was great. I won't ever go to apache again. read more

What an absolutely horrible place! Beautiful building, rude staff. The receptionist was nice and only the receptionist. I have been a vet tech at a phoenix animal hospital for years so when I came down to visit my mom she wanted me to go with her to take her dog to the vet. We called around and VCA first said they couldn't see us and then called back to work us in which was nice. When we got there the receptionist was nice but once we hit the exam room the experience went seriously down hill.Dr. Bennett-Maas came in did a very brief exam and then had the tech come in with an estimate for treatment. When I told my mom she only needed to do a few things since we were only there for arthritis meds and that she didn't need x-rays the tech angrily walked out. We could here them talking about me through the door and complaining that I was advising her she didn't need to do certain things. They then did the in house blood tests we okayed, came back in after about 35 mins and said the doctor would not prescribe the anti inflammatory medicine that we wanted because one of the tests was elevated and we would need to come back another day for more blood tests and urine tests. We tried to ask if they could send out the tests with the blood they had already drawn but the doctor litterally walked out the door and closed it while we we talking to her! They ended up refusing to do anything for the arthritis pain and didn't even address the diarrhea the dog was having. I asked the doctor as she was walking out of the room what about the diarrhea and she turned around and she said "I guess I can give her something to plug her up",I asked about doing a bland diet and she said" that works whatever" and left the room. UNBELIEVABLY RUDE! They clearly were upset that I was a vet tech and I was letting my mom know she didn't need to do everything they suggested. Checking out to leave they wouldn't even talk to my mom, it was ridiculous! We were in no way nasty or rude to them. The only thing I said that was remotely confrontational was that I couldn't believe that they wouldn't do anything for the dogs pain. Needless to say my mom will NEVER set foot in another VCA hospital again ESPECIALLY VCA Apache! read more

I lost my 14 year old dog and animal control took her to Apache Animal Hosipal and called me. I went in and the Vet told me she recommend I put my dog to sleep because she couldn't walk. She also told me she was incontinent of bowel and bladder. I told her that at 8pm the night before she was fine and I wasn't going to give up on her that easy, that she must have gotten injured. She said she didn't see any outwardly signs of injury. She told me that because animal control had brought her in that it was her decision whether or not she would release my dog to me or not and she felt that my dog's quality of life was zero so she wouldn't release her to me. I told her I wanted to take her home and nurse her and if she didn't get better I would make plans at that time. She angerily said ok but she was sending animal control over in 3 days and if my dog wasn't walking she would have her confiscated and her chance of recover was less than 10%. Well I took my dog home got some steroid meds from the vet (for swelling) put an ice bag on her back and within 12 hours she was jumping off the couch and walking to her water bowl. She hasNEVER been incontinent of bowel or bladder and is doing great. She is completely back to normal health. I know she must have gotten injured in some way on the night she was lost but if I would have listened to the Vet my dog would be dead!!!! They charged me for an exam and didn't even take her temperture or do an exam. This vet is very mean and in the wrong line of work!!! read more

The experience was horrible. I waited 30 minutes in line to pick him up. They are always short staffed and the customer pays for it. They charged me a few dollars short of $800 for roughly 7 hours of care. I'm not a vet, but I knew it was highly unlikely that they pumped 3 units of IV fluid into my dog in 7 short hours. I questioned this and the Apache staff reluctantly agreed that they only used 1 and offered to refund those expenses. There was medication I paid for that was never given to him. I had to point that out for them for to agree to a refund. After 30 minutes of debate, I was finally refunded $92. I returned home only to find more discrepancies, so I returned the next morning. The office Manager MARY got downright nasty with me, telling me I disrespected her vet and the rest of the staff by not wanting to speak with the vet when I picked up my dog. That woman should never be employed in a position that requires customer contact. A person in that position should never raise their voice at a client or display hostility. This was unprovoked. I had to call the corporate complaint department for further assistance. A short time later, I got a call from a contrite MARY apologizing and offering another refund of $100. Long story short, this place is a rip off. I identified nearly $200 in charges that I shouldn't have paid for in the first place. Those are only the ones I identified. Were there more overcharges? They charge too much to begin with. The total cost of services rendered should have been less than $400 (in another unnamed vet's opinion). Lastly, the attitude displayed by the vet I met with was pretty much "pay the price or put him to sleep". That should tell any pet owner what they need to know about VCA Apache. In my opinion, they don't care about the animal, but only how much they can gouge the owner. My dog is doing well. That's only because I got decent care at another hospital thereafter. read more

I recently switched veterinarians after being with the same one for 16 years. I'm so very glad I choose VCA Apache. We have 3 dogs and 2 cats, and Dr. Brown has seen 2 of our dogs and 1 cat to date. She is a wonderful, kind and caring vet. She was extremely good with my scardy dog and calmed him right down. The vet techs too are great and very reassuring to frightened animals. Dr. Brown always calls after tests, and she has returned my calls immediately. Apache was able to get my dog in very quickly who needed dental surgery after waiting to get my girl's surgery done at another vet for over two months. We bring our dogs here. Have for years. I like the new building much better than the old. I'm surprised by some of the reviews regarding rude staff and vets. I've never experienced this. Truly everyone we've met has been very nice, kind and helpful. I've had the very sad experience of having to put my two malamutes to sleep (at different times) and had it not been for the kind and caring staff I'm not sure how my family coped with the decision. They allowed us all the time we needed with our beloved pets, explained everything to us, waited for us to say when, and allowed us to stay with our beautiful pets until we were ready to leave. They sent condolences and called us when the ashes were ready to pick up. Honestly all my pets get great care. Yes the estimates are expensive but we always discuss what is truly needed and I NEVER feel pressured to go in one or another direction.
