With that said... ***** My precious furbaby, Kali, has been under the care of Dr. Deb for approximately 12 years. She, and Deland Animal Hospital, was referred to me by my parents, who were referred by neighbors. I can't stress enough the personal concern and utmost care and respect extended to me by not only Dr. Deb, but the techs with whom I've interacted and office staff, especially Sherry. Kali, a 16-year-old rescue from Hurricane Katrina is thriving and enjoys playing with her brother, approximately 4 years old, rescued after being dumped in our apartment condo. Awful experience. They never helped my dog even after $300 in just medication. And that cost was after a free first visit. They gave me a pill which they told me was an antibiotic and steroid in one. His skin issues are so much worse so I stopped by to see what I can do about it and the rude receptionist said oh well. Charging me that much money and sending me on my way with an incomplete diagnosis, causing my dog to suffer needlessly. They should be ashamed of themselves. Do not take your dog here. If I could give this post negative stars I would!! I called when my Chihuahua was in critical condition and the tech that answered put me on hold for 40 minutes to pull my file and never came back to help. My chihuahua was a patient there for 4 years since I moved to Deland . I spent 1000's of dollars and these obnoxious rude people they have working never called me back or checked to see if I was ok. Due to future litigation, I'm just going to say this: laws have changed regarding the schedule of vaccinations for your pet. A clinic should not be pushing for vaccines that are unnecessary, especially if you've voiced your concerns year after year due to how allergic your dog is. A clinic should call you back if you have called them telling them your pet is suffering now. So i went over there looking for help, and instead the head tech did everything she could to try and get me to sign papers releasing them of responsibility. An allergy shot was denied UNLESS i signed their liability papers. When i stated that i felt i was being coerced, she angrily denied that she was coercing me and demanded that i take out my additional, handwritten comments on the paper i did not want to sign, but was very worried and scared for my pet who had been suffering and felt backed into a corner cause i needed to get him help. I had very little money, cause the funds i had were previously taken for something unnecessary, and I couldn't voice my disagreements when she tried and put all the blame on me for their negligence - which will all be ultimately determined by the judicial system - I felt i had to comply with her bullying, and attempt to intimidate me to sign the papers i did not want to sign. She was belittling and insulting I couldn't even defend myself because to me it was very apparent that she was looking for an excuse to get rid of me, and she wasn't listening and there was always the threat i would not get the allergy shot unless i behaved as she wanted and did what she wanted . She wouldn't even meet me halfway, unless i signed the papers. My previous career was as an investigator. Part of my job was to conduct interviews to get at the truth. Worked closely with law enforcement and state attorneys offices to prosecute cases. We never used these tactics because it could easily get your case thrown out, and more than that, it is unethical. You can't force someone to sign papers if they don't want to. You don't coerce others. You don't use intimidation, threats, and you certainly need to consider the duress they are under. I even told her, listen, we obviously don't agree on issues here so let us just get on with treating my dog. This is the best i can do with this form. I am not going to change my comments yet again. You tell me if you all can work with that. If not we need to go. She had me there very long trying to get her way (another problematic area). So she comes back and tells me the vet did approve the allergy, then went on to refuse to give my dog the shot when she just kept on trying to defend their actions and i tried to help her see my point of view. This was a gross display of someone in an authority position abusing their power. Some serious training needs to be given to these employees. I hope my story helps that training come about so no one else has to endure what i had to endure, and all for nothing because my fur baby, over something trivial, was never given the allergy shot. She should have been more concerned about my beloved dog. So much more to say, but I've already said enough. Beware. And take pictures of what you sign in case you also may want to further pursue through the judicial system. I want to add that the staff at the desk i find helpful and cordial, although they don't always have the proper information. I was impressed with the vet on our prior visit for reasons i am going to commend in a letter. Yet, i am of the utmost opinion that the tech staff needs some serious training and unless they get that training, they should not be handling sensitive matters with clients because, imo, as it is, it is a lawsuit waiting to happen. read more

I was alarmed, but not fully persuaded. I sought second opinions from not one, or two, but three veterinary professionals. Two veterinarians, and one veterinary dental tech. They all agreed there was no sign of tooth resorption.  Your suggestion was that Izzy would require 2-3 tooth extractions, and that would alleviate his intense pain.  I don't know how you people sleep at night. It appears you were willing to extract healthy teeth in exchange for more profit. That's despicable. When I used to bring my cats to your smaller facility, I felt I was getting the best care. VCA Deland had earned my trust. Since you moved to that larger facility, I don't feel that way any longer. If I had to guess, your larger facility has increased your cost of doing business exponentially. Maybe there's a lot of pressure to bring in more income to help cover ever rising business expenses. It's unethical at the very least. But it can also be perceived as an attempt to defraud the public. You could end up losing patients/customers. Really nice staff from the moment you walk in to the veterinarian. Very clean facility and big waiting room. They also have complimentary coffee, nice clean restroom for pet owners. It is open 24/7 and the prices were reasonable for a walk in visit. The whole visit took about 1h 15 min from the triage, waiting for the vet and waiting for blood test in house results. Not too bad. Without the blood test would have been a shorter visit. Overall a great animal hospital for the Deland community ! read more

My English Bulldogs love coming here! Everybody is so sweet to them and my dogs love them. I am very particular when it comes to their care and the Doctors and staff at DeLand Animal Hospital always exceed my expectations. It is very difficult to find a veterinarian who truly understnds this breed. English bulldogs can have many difficult and unique medical conditions and the Doctors here know how to handle them. They have performed several surgeries on them including soft palate resections, dentals and orthopedic procedures. I only trust DeLand Animal Hospital with my English bulldogs and strongly recommend them to all of my friends! read more

My family and I used to go to Newman's Veterinary in Deltona Florida and they literally gave my dog seizures after a simple dental cleaning as they overdosed her with Anesthesia and she had constant problems and died three months after!!! However I can tell you that Deland Animal Hospital has been a blessing for our family and our new puppy not to mention that Dr. Deanna fox is absolutely amazing!!!! All of the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and they even have a little coffee bar for you while you're waiting. The unfortunate part is they used to be open 24/7 And their hours have been reduced only up until 8 PM at night which sucks for emergencies other than that I can give them five stars hats off to your staff!! read more

I naturally fear a lawsuit for being honest but must say I was not happy with the care of my beloved Kumar. I brought him here when I noticed several lymph nodes were swollen. They did a fine needle aspiration of nodes in neck and rear leg. A few days later they called and said all is well.. aspirations were negative for Lymphoma. Within 2 days all nodes were golf ball size. Luckily another vet took him right in ( AA Animal Clinic ) and took out rear leg node and sent right out. A day later got the call aggressive large cell lymphoma. Needless to say my dog passed 7 weeks later. I think perhaps this place got too big for the kind of care I expected.... Now since learning a negative review may bring a lawsuit..I was naturally fearful of giving MY OPINION of the care my dog received. Lymphoma killed my dog.. but a timely diagnosis may have allowed his chemo to work. read more

They charged me more than twice the estimate amount emailed to me to insert a feeding tube in our catThey delayed getting it installed until after midnight. They did not anchor it correctly the first time and charged me over $300 to redo their botched surgery. The initial feeding tube came out less than 24 hours after installation. However, after I had filled out a complaint form with the State of Florida and told them about the form, they did agree to refund all of the disputed charges. I have now been refunded to my satisfaction and am no longer upset with them. read more

I have been reading some multiple shows negative reviews from one person who is obviously cookoo. I am so glad we took our Jake and ignored the noise. Since Dr Ulbrich & her husband sold the practice, it has been going downhill. Tues, I took my cat in who is eating constantly, losing weight & unsteady as she walks. The blood work & fecal showed nothing abnormal yet the vet wanted to start her on thyroid and tapeworm medicine even though she has neither issue! Then even though she doesn't have a kidney issue, she wanted to start her on prescription kidney food. And this is after telling her that my cat is picky about food and now ONLY easts Fancy Feast. Bit it doesn't matter anyway since she isn't having kidney issues. This was a waste of time & almost $200! read more

Deland Animal Hospital has been great to my pets over the years both in medical care as well as boarding. My older dog had multiple issues and ended up in an oxygen tent for couple of days. He had multiple issues and eventually I had to make that horrible choice we all dread making. DAH was amazing to him during nearly a year of emergency trips and couldn't have been better to me through the whole thing. I have two more dogs and have taken both there along with the cat and always receive stellar service. I travel several times a year on business and the only place my dogs will stay is their boarding facility. I will not take my pets anywhere else and continue to refer people there. read more

I've been coming to them when they were at Kepler. Now that they're at woodland, I feel they're too big. Bigger isn't better. Left my dog there to kennel for 4 days. Told them he had a tumor. Which they diagnosed. Well! He lost 4 pounds in 4 days. They claim they didn't know he had a tumor. Too many people too big. Did not like the way my dog was treated. Complained to receptionist who claims she notified the manager to call me. No call back. Not happy with them anymore. Looking at the history of reviews. While on my way to my son and daughter-in-laws in New Smyrna on a Saturday, my Collie began diarrhea and threw up. I panicked and started for home (Ocala) and what I thought was the nearest 24 hour vet. I called the emergency vet and they directed me to Deland Animal Hospital. It was closer. I went and could not have had better, kinder service. Everyone (except me) was calm and reassuring. They tested Mandy and gave her meds. Erika K, the vet tech was especially kind and knowledgeable. Everyone else was very nice as well. By the time I left, they had me feeling that my baby was going to be okay. This is the only place I take my pets. They are open 24/7 and I was able to take my cat in at 11pm without paying any extra after hours fee. This is because I've been there before, I'm not sure what the charge is for others. They saw me right away. They were very courteous and understanding when I went into "crazy cat lady" mode and lost all control of my emotions at the thought of my baby boy needing surgery. They were more than willing to give me estimates of anything they wanted to do BEFORE they did it. There were no suprises when I got my bill. They also allowed me to refuse some tests that I just couldnt afford at the time. I just can't say enough about this place...bottom line is this is the BEST Vet in all of Volusia County! About a month ago, our Boxer suddenly fell ill and started having seizures. We were traumatized and heart broken! The MacPhails were swift to diagnose him and make him comfortable! They answered our late night calls and listened while we cried. He was old and we knew the inevitable was upon us! However, they made us feel loved and cared SO much for Bodie! These random posts from the hurting pet owner and the News-Journey are one-sided. Trust me, it's never easy to lose a pet. They are our four-legged babies! Elisabeth Kubler-Ross has a great book on dealing with loss. One of the stages is "anger" (stage 2) which is the most difficult. This stage is easily deflected onto others. My hope and prayer is that this gentlemen finds peace/comfort and starts to truly mourn the loss of his precious Fur Baby. I'm here to tell you that the MacPhails are excellent veterinarians and love animals beyond belief! I have and will forevermore take my Fur babies to them to love and care for them! Our beloved Maggie, a 13 year old Maltese, was always taken care of by the medical and administrative staff. Back in early April, Maggie was diagnosed with renal failure, and our decision, was to finally end her pain. This amazing office saved my Airedale Terrier last night!!! He had bloat with a twisted GI tract and flipped stomach. This is my large breed mom dear. I called before loading him up and arrived at 8 PM and the place was packed. They got him in, diagnosed and into surgery by 9:15!! He had very little odds surviving this and the surgeon was amazing!!!! I'm so thrilled that my boy may be coming home tomorrow, I can hardly stand it!!! We brought my dog with cancer here to be put down and the staff was great. Their new address is a larger facility in a convenient location, and was very clean. There are TVs in various rooms which we watched while they set my dog up to be put down. The staff was patient and made sure he was with me until he passed and were kind and courteous. I took my 3 year old Shepherd there on Monday March 4, 2019 he had a small hard ball behind his ear at that point it could move around. They took him in the back stuck a needle to get a sample gave me anti biopics charged me 300.00 sent me on my way. By Wednesday that had grew to all the way behind his head and was hard didn't move and one side below his neck was hanging lower than the other side and had a ball there too. They shaved him did a sonogram like thing which they never gave me the results of or a copy of the bill for but they did give me beef chews, told me he had Basel cell cancer in the middle of the mass and suggested surgery next week which they had no openings for after pleading for days they did schedule me for surgery for next Thursday. I paid 150.00 for that visit. I begged them to help me please don't let my 3 year old dog die. This past Thursday night I called 4 times asking them to send his records to U of F. After about 3 hour his cysts ruptured bloody pus oozing from the top and bleeding from the bottom. I called them again early Friday Morning like 1 am they told me bring him in. I brought him in they still hadn't sent anything to U of F. They vet looked at him said he probably scratched himself (which he can't he has been wearing shoes since they shaved him). I begged her not to let my dog die she said nothing she could do surgeries had to be scheduled. I had a bloody pus oozing dog and she said nothing she could do. At this point I insisted on getting a copy of Kilo's records. They insisted I pay the 125.00 bill for nothing they could do before they would give me the records. I agreed to pay the 125.00 after I got copies of Kilo's records. The girls behind the counter had a fit slammed things around said they were going home. All the while I waited for Kilo's records. When they finally gave me Kilo's records I paid the bill and told them to send Bella's records to U of F. They have not sent Bella's records to U of F and they have banned my husband and I from their property so we can't get Bella's records. I begged them not to let my dog die after I paid them almost 600.00 in a week my dog is now being cared for by U of F sadly the mass has grown bigger than it was the Monday when I took my dog Deland Animal Hospital to have it taken off. Now I just pray the mass goes down so U of F can do the surgery. Deland Animal Hospital is not the family business they would like you to think they are. They got bought out by the same company that owns Banfield. Seems to me money is more important than the life of the animal. Still waiting for Bella's records too. read more
