Our first time experience with our newly adopted puppy was great unless you count the front desk staff. Our vet, Shawn, as well as her assistant we're both amazing! And because they were we will give the clinic another chance. Maybe both women that we dealt with were having a bad day, which was clearly reflected in their shortness and in their snotty attitude. New puppy care is expensive so I expect to be spoken to with professionalism and kindness by the people processing my paperwork and payment as well as by the vet staff. The vet staff nailed it today but the two front desk women missed it by a longshot! We were a few minutes early for our appt and instead of being greeted/welcomed ina pleasant voice we were "barked"at by a women before we even got to the desk and rushed in to a room. Our dog is small and she was in a carrier so that whole thing was confusing. As I previously mentioned the whole vet experience was great but then I went to the desk to pay and the amount she told me was about $100 too much so I asked if I was being charged for the first visit because it was supposed to be free. To that instead of getting a professional response that I expected (I'm sorry let me check on that or oh let me converse with the doctor) what I got was a snotty "Well I don't post the charges". So I followed up with "Well the copy I signed showed that the first visit was free so please check on that". She was a little nicer when she returned with the correct amount so I didn't say what was on my mind but politely thanked her. I believe that having a puppy will warrant a good amount of visits this year so if the front desk staff continues to treat us the way they did today we will be looking for different vet services in the future. read more

Still incredible. I moved further away from them and still drive my cats up 30 minutes to see these guys. My cat Barlow has waxing and waning polyneuropathy with no explained cause and they are working with his neurologist to get the boy in a good spot. Plus my three other cats. My family found an abandoned kitten and took it in to get tests done to make sure it was okay. The kitten was diagnosed with ringworm. We paid for the test multiple times to confirm that she still had ringworm ($200 each time) and bought medicine for her to hopefully get rid of it. In between this time my family was given the kitten to now take care of. (A state away) She didn't appear to be exhibiting signs of suffering from the skin condition so after her last dose a few weeks ago we didn't refill. My toddler now has ringworm from the kitten. I called local vets in Oregon to set up an appointment to get her medicine. The soonest appointment we could get was over 2 weeks away. I am worried my other child and pet will get ringworm so I contacted VCA Battleground to get her another dose of medicine so she can heal quicker (still keeping the appointment in Oregon so we can get any additional vaccines) at first they seemed willing and got her updated weight over the phone. Dr. Krage decided to not refill the prescription despite knowing she still actively had ringworm and is around small children. I am so disappointed in this clinic who claims to care about animals to deny refilling a prescription because they said she'd need to be seen AGAIN. (Another $200 test I'm sure!) We cannot take her up to Washington to get her seen so their best idea is to force her to wait over two weeks for an appointment in Oregon while she is actively around my kids and other pet. Shame on this vet. The receptionists were very helpful and kind. But I recommend avoiding Dr. Krage because there is a clear lack of care for animals well being when she makes the decisions. I want to also call out (because the receptionist mentioned that their call wasn't returned earlier this month after the kitten was given to us) that my grandma and great aunt are suffering from Alzheimer's and in between hospital visits and getting placed into homes - my family wasn't able to follow up sooner. Life happens and we were busy taking care of family who needed help. The kitten seemed to be better but clearly isn't and is now infecting my toddler. You're better off going to a different vet or specifically asking for someone who isn't Dr. Krage. To be especially clear: VCA knows this kitten still has ringworm. WE know she has ringworm. When we wait 2 weeks to take her to this new vet they are likely going to charge us another $200 to diagnose what we and this clinic already know. Our dog gets ear infections. The first time we went here it was great. They put medicine in his ear and we left. It cost $300. The second time we went it was awful. The vet tech wouldn't listen to us. She kept trying to swab the dog ear but she was really bad at it and hurt him I don't think she ever got a proper swab to take the test. When the vet came in after making us wait a ridiculous amount of time, she said the dog didn't have an ear infection. I found this odd because his ear is extremely red and full of brown gunk. She said bring him back in a week or so. I'm not sure why you'd need to see him again. You didn't help him in the slightest and you charged us $160 for nothing. It's Sunday. His ear is red and irritated there's brown gunk coming out of it, he keeps shaking his head. He's as miserable as I've seen him because he has an ear infection. He's had one since they saw him. I don't know why you guys couldn't have treated him when we came in. read more

We have been going to this vet clinic for years and have spent thousands of dollars here on our pets. Our dog had to have a major surgery and we took her to another place that was much more affordable ($140 total instead of the $1500 we were quoted here!). I called and made an appointment here, explaining that my dog had surgery somewhere else but we'd be happy to pay them to take the staples out. They agreed to set up the appointment, knowing that I had had the surgery done at another place. When I arrived, the front desk rudely told me to take her back to the place we did the surgery and that they were not going to take them out since we took her to another place. I have a 10-year old dog who has been coming to the Battleground VCA since she was a pup. I am no longer anywhere near that area after having moved, but it is still one of my top choices for my dog, especially for boarding. You have to understand that my dog is a rescue animal with some behavioral problems and special needs. Even so, she interacts well with most of the staff and has never been upset about being boarded there. She has some friends there who are always happy to see her and can't wait to play with her! Fees for some veterinary services have gone up over the years, but that seems to be the norm. I may actually consider looking into pet insurance for some of our rescue/shelter pets with health problems. Otherwise, booster shots, flea treatment and other basic services are pretty standard. Only once was I charged for a service that was not received, but I was fine with it considering the effort involved. Try clipping my dog's claws once and you will understand! I mentioned boarding, so here's the scoop: Prices are extremely reasonable and VCA Battleground is very accommodating! It's a standard kennel set up, so if you want your dog to have a couch and TV this may not be for you. However, they do not charge extra for your dog's feeding schedule or playtime! Their staff loves pets so much they are happy to play with your dog just because they WANT to! Just be sure to call well in advance if you are planning a trip- their kennel fills fast! read more

I have had pets my entire life and have been to many vet clinics. VCA in Battle Ground has been the best experience ever! Our Veterinarian Jani has been nothing but amazing. I appreciate not having to ask for the same vet when we come, that's just how great they are. We brought our puppy in at 8 weeks for the first time. We also have 2 boys, 8 and 11. Jani not only gave our puppy the care and attention I have not experienced before but also helped teach our boys how to handle her at times. Our now 6 month puppy got spayed today, I could not be happier with the entire experience. Not only did I receive a call yesterday with details but I received a call about the surgery 4 hours earlier than I anticipated. Jani answered all of my questions in detail and explained everything. She made me feel like she truly cares about our puppy Gemma. The rest of the staff are extremely welcoming and helpful as well. I was hesitant joining the care club as the clinic is in Battle Ground and we live in Vancouver. I will recommend them to any and all pet owners. I also highly recommend looking into the care club. I got turned away from every vet here in Longview, because I only had $300.00. I only had enough to cover exam cost, and cost of the x-rays, but nothing more at time. No one was willing to work with me on payment. They just showed us the door. Finally after hours of calling around, I found VCA in battle ground. They were only concerned about the well being of our fur baby. They got us in right away, and are working with me on cost of care. They were beyond helpful, and made us both feel so much better! We have been bringing our dogs here for 15 years and I can't imagine going anywhere else. During this time we have shared our home with 6 dogs, some rescues, some older, some puppies. All of them have received incredibly kind and knowledgeable care. I don't believe the costs here are outrageously high as indicated in other reviews. I think you get what you pay for. And I am impressed that someone always goes over the projected cost of unusual treatment beforehand so I am not surprised when I pick up my pet. All of the doctors and staff treat my animals and I with loving respect. The focus is on wellness and prevention, yet when an emergency or illness occurs they rise to the occasion. Terrible! Unprofessional! They don't care about your pocket book! Do not go there! My wife and I are cautious of having our bill padded every time we go to 'any' doctor, dentist, or veterinarian, so we always ask what the charges will be at the time of making the appointment. In this case, we asked VCA what the charge would be to drain our dogs glands...they said $33, and I asked what the charge would be if the glands weren't the problem and they would have to diagnose something else...they said it would be an additional $44 for an appointment fee to see the doctor. I said fine, and made the appointment. (My wife suggested I do it this way, because she wasn't sure that the glands were the problem this time) Our dog and I showed up on time, I confirmed again with the receptionist what we were there for, but that if it wasn't our dogs glands that were causing the problem, I'd like it diagnosed and the extra charge would be fine. We were asked to go into the examination room. The veterinarian came in, and I went over the situation with him as well, 'including' the fees that I was quoted. He said that he charges the $44 fee for looking at the dog, which is what he said he was doing, and I said that I'd like to have her glands checked first, before we do an examination and I'm charged the examination/office fee. He said okay and left the room. They looked at her glands, and found that they weren't the reason she had a smelly discharge, the nurse/tech came out and told me to just keep an eye on it. I said that if it wasn't her glands, I'd like to have it diagnosed by the doctor. They brought us in the exam room again, the doctor came in and mentioned a couple of other things it could be. Such as testing for worms, etc. I said okay, how much will that be. He said he'd find out. I asked if I would be charged to have the glands drained, since they didn't have to because that wasn't the problem...AND THIS IS WHERE THINGS GOT WIERD...he said, "yes, you're definitely going to pay for that because you came in here to have her glands drained". I was going to just go ahead and pay for that service, but I tried to explain to him how I had set the appointment up...that I just wanted to see if her glands needed to be drained, and if not, I wanted to have the problem diagnosed. However, I couldn't even get a word out, as he started making accusational, disrespectful statements to me such as, "I know exactly what you're doing, you're just trying to play the system", etc., etc. I told him that he was being completly inappropriate, told him he was wrong, and I tried to calmly explain again how I set the appointment up with his receptionist. But he just cut me off, said he didn't want to hear it, that we were done, and I could just leave. After I called him a disrespectful punk, my dog and I went out to the car to leave. He came out and asked if I was going to pay. I said, "for what, being falsly accused of trying to play you, and for being disrespectfully kicked out of your office"? They treated me extremely unprofessionally, and if you want to try and get a handle on the fees before they just start charging you...THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO! read more

My family brought my childhood dog of 16 years to be cremated here after her recent pass. Her name was Princess, I was 7 years old when she became a part of my family, and she quickly became the best friend I had ever had, we were literally inseparable. She would always greet me at the door, slept by my side, she did everything with me, she was even there when I very first took off on my bike, troting along side cheering me on, and 'keeping me safe' she was always there to protect me. Well to get back to the point here, this animal hospital, which is suppose to be staffed with people who genuinely care for animals, messed up Princess' cremation. She was cremated along with 3 other people's beloved pets and now the ashes are mixed and can not be returned to the people who are grieving the lose of a family member. As a person and a professional who works with animals every day I do not understand how this can be ok, or even brushed aside. Pets are family, Princess was my family, I know mistakes happen, accidents happen, but not this one. This was a family dealing with a grievance of a death of a loved one and I feel it wasn't treated as such. I know there are people out there who think "it was just an animal" but those people should not be working in an animal hospital, and I feel that is how this situation was handled and thought about. I would advise you don't trust your pets in the care of this hospital, because this wasn't a little forgivable mistake this is something that can not be undone and there will always be an empty place in mine and my family's heart. read more

My vet here even took the time to personally email me about my pet's test results, and make sure all of my questions were answered. May I have a moment of your time if you love your pet? We had an emergency situation with ours recently, and I can assure you - it was NOT expected. Suddenly in the middle of the night our little dog became violently ill. She was obviously in need of a vet, and the situation was getting worse fast. We called VCA in Battle Ground to get an emergency appointment, and as the symptoms worsened headed toward them - even without an appointment, planning to go where we needed to get her treated. When we arrived they somehow made room for us in their busy schedule. The vet was new to us, but we were VERY relieved when Dr. Rockstad showed her competence in the quick diagnosis of our little girl. She gave us a few choices regarding treatment plans vs. budget, and explained which was needed, why it was needed, and how to proceed in record time. Thanks to Dr. Rockstad we were able to save her before the situation required hospitalization. Now here comes the really GREAT part: the following day, our new vet emailed us to find out how her new patient was doing - on her day off! She directed us to return to clinic for a few medications, etc., but she cared enough about her new client to do this from her home! Not only did she diagnose quickly and accurately, but she cared enough to inquire from home instead of passing us around to someone else! I guess you know who we will return to see when we need care for our pets from now on!
