Hello I live directly across from this gym and generally try to be understanding, but I wanted to share a concern. There is often a woman leading or participating in workouts who yells extremely loudly, especially in the mornings. As someone who works long hours, my days off are important for rest, and being repeatedly woken up by shouting on a Saturday morning is very frustrating. I respect that people come here to exercise and stay motivated, but I also hope the gym can be mindful of the surrounding neighbors. A little consideration for the residents who live nearby would go a long way. Please help keep the noise at a reasonable level, especially during early hours. read more

This place is AMAZING!!!!! I love love love this gym. It's a great place to workout yes, but great place to find a community of people just living their every day life who are choosing to be healthy. Valley CrossFit Athletics is the place to be to get an amazing workout . They have amazing , friendly , and dedicated coaches . They will challenge and push you to do your best while making sure you also have good form. I started with them almost two years ago. I always wanted to do weightlifting but was always afraid of getting hurt . They helped me work on form and gradually adding weight to all my lifts . Love all the workouts ! I am in the best shape of my life because of them! They've reopened and are up and running . From what I've seen they are keeping everything organized , sanitized , and efficient . If you havent tried a crossfit class, then you are missing out on a real workout. And lemme tell ya this is not your momma's gym. Coaches are excellent (Kyle & Randy). Each crossfit class is instructor led and lasts about an hour and roughly 15 min. Coaches strategically whiteboard each session or WOD (WORKOUT OF THE DAY) and then go over all movements within the workout. The workouts are timed, quick, fast and very high intensity. Beginner no problem, coaches spend time with you to ensure you understand and properly & safely finish each workout of the day. read more

YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 2014: 7/365 Sometimes bigger is better... I would have to say Valley CrossFit is the biggest box I've seen yet. Plus, they are decked out with every single gadget, machine, & equipment you could ever think of. They even have those wooden wall barriers that they had at the CrossFit Games to do over the wall burpees. This is where the athletes had to hop over the wall and do burpees on each side! They have configured each corner of the box to be utilized strategically to flow in an efficient way. They had people olympic lifting in the far back right corner. Another corner had enough space to pull out 2 rows of rowers. The center of the box is decked out with sets of muscle up rings. This place runs like a well oiled machine. I took my first class here tonight and was warmly welcomed by my coach Sue. The AMRAP that we did was intense but I loved how she explained all the movements and how to properly do them correctly. Hard to find at first since it's located in an industrial part of the Valley but since Crossfit isn't your normal average gym, it needs an open space like a warehouse for the exercises. The place is on Oxnard after Kester. Pull into a small burger shack and the Bill Ferrel Co. and it's behind that. Been taking classes since October since I've plateau'd after working out consisting the last few years. I love it. Every class is different so your body doesn't get used to it, but with time you can build strength, endurance and power. The owner Mike Latch also teaches most of the classes and he along with the other students are very helpful and supportive. This isn't like a hard body place where everyone is conceited and you have no reason to be shy, everyone is so nice. The first class is free so you can try it and I am hooked. $150 for 10 classes or unlimited per month. 10 classes is good at first if you can't come all the time. (At first, I would be so stiff 3 days at a time for the first 2 weeks, now I do unlimited). Each class is an hour long, and they have a lot of classes depending on what time you can come in. They do a variety of workouts; sometimes with weights, kettlebells, cardio, pushups, jumprope, etc. etc. I honestly feel so much better after I go. It's hardwork that pays off. read more

Best decision I've made this year to join Valley CrossFit. I joined the 6 week challenge and have decided to definitely continue after the challenge is done. Our trainer Kyle is great, he is attentive to all challengers and directs us well in what we need to do. For someone like me, that hasn't worked out in years, proper instructions are very important. The challenge itself consists of a before and after body measurement, meal plan and some optional protein powder and natural supplements. I've been taking my 9year old nephew to the kids CrossFit class, and he absolutely LOVES it. The class pushes my nephew physically, and mentally. Jay (the coach) is beyond helpful, and I truly appreciate how she coaches CrossFit ! She is attentive and assertive in just the right way with all the kids in class. My nephew can become shy when it comes to active activities cause he isn't the most athletic, but jay knows how to push him in the right way. She encourages him and gives him the right guidance and motivation for him to want to push himself ! He walks away so happy(and not to mention, BEAT! Lol). My girlfriends 6 year old niece has also started to attend the class and she absolutely loves it as well. This is a gym for obsessed crossfit workout fanatics who like to be yelled at and made to feel like garbage while trying to get in better shape. Not good for an average person looking for a basic workout. I am someone who enjoys fitness and tries to do what I can to stay in shape... this place is not for me. The main guy Mike (who was running the class the day I went) was a total d-bag. He's mean, snarky, condescending and has a huge attitude. And that attitude seems to have permeated to the regulars in the gym because they all basically had the same attitude. Makes sense since the gym aims to create a psyco-bootcamp lifestyle - and a drill sergeant traditionally sets the tone for those under him. If you are a professional crossfit health nut, this is probably the right place to be. If you're someone just trying to get in better shape... I would go elsewhere. There are a few other new style gyms in the area that I hear give a much more positive experience. Everyone takes themselves way too seriously here. It's just a gym! I guess I will have to keep looking for another way to keep my workouts fun. read more

Let me start off by saying, I am NOT your typical crossfit body type. I'm a larger guy, but I've known deep down that I have some athletic ability that just needs an outlet to be released. Thanks to VCF, I've found that outlet. Previous to joining VCF, I had dropped about 75 pounds. I used to be 375 and could hardly get up a flight of steps without being winded. Now at 300, I was ready to challenge myself a bit more and try something other than the regular cardio and hand-weights I had been doing at the gym. A couple of friends got the Groupon for VCF and once they started they told me about the free 7-day trial. Free? Might as well give it a try. Day 1 was intimidating... walking into a place with these people who are hardcore athletes, some of which I had literally seen on ESPN. But after I opened myself up to the idea that I belonged there just as much as anyone... it all changed. So much of crossfit is in your mind. After day 3 and 4, my body was more sore and tired than it had been in a very long time (if not EVER). But I committed to the week, so I kept going. I would like to add here, that with as sore as I was, I would have easily stopped going if it wasn't for a few certain coaches that work at VCF. In particular, Mark and Bryce were very helpful to me. They both teach beginner classes, and if you are thinking of trying VCF, I would recommend going to one of their classes first. They realized that I wasn't quite able to do everything to the full extent intended, but they made modifications to me that still allowed me to feel like I was doing the full workout, but personalized to my ability. One thing I like about Bryce is he refers to everyone as an "athlete" no matter what your skill level is. He'll say "for my more advanced athletes, you should do ______" or "for my developing athletes, you can modify to _________". Just this use of language really makes all the difference for a beginner like myself. Something on day 7 totally flipped a switch in me. I realized that I really loved it, and I wanted to continue. We did this exercise called the strength axel, and it was so tough, but i was like "I HAVE to join so that I can eventually conquer this!". After evaluating the membership options, I decided to go with the all-inclusive package to go as many times as you want a week. Yes, its pricey.... but you have the option to make the most out of that money that you want. Its up to you and what you put into it. Ive been going for about five weeks now, and I can safely say my body has never been as strong as it is today. I have noticable defined muscle in places I've never seen. And I'm doing things that I never thought my large body would be capable of doing. I read a few reviews stating that they have run into people with bad attitudes here. Personally... I think that is on the reviewer. Crossfit is what you make of it. If you're nice and open yourself up to people, you'll find plenty of people who will be nice and supportive right back to you. I've connected with a few of the coaches more than others, so I'd say try out different classes until you find a person who's style you mesh with. There are definitely some serious crossfitters that are at VCF ALL THE TIME. Maybe some of them aren't as friendly, but they are there for a reason... they want to get their workout on. They are in their own zone and I'm not going to get upset if they aren't super acommodating to me. I pay for the facility and the coaches, and so far, the coaches have been very nice and supportive. And get to know some of the other athletes in class. I've met some really nice people that I am excited to form friendships with. Overall, I say: Give the 7-day trial a chance and go in with a positive attitude. I wouldn't expect everyone to connect with VCF like I have... but you may just be sipping on the crossfit kool-aid in no time! :-) read more

I was very harsh when I wrote my first review.. I was very upset as Mike was clearly not having a great day... Since then, he made it up to me by allowing me to come in for a month free to try it out- and let me tell you, I'm so glad he did that. He proved to me that he was truly sorry for the way he spoke to me the first time, and I learned that it wasn't how he is on a daily basis what so ever. I've been going to VCF now for a few months, and I couldn't ask for a better "gym". The trainers, the classes, the environment, and all the clients that work out there are great. And not to mention how knowledgable the coaches are. It's very impressive that a few of them are very active in the crossfit community and are continuing their progress as athletes. I've been welcomed in, as part of the family that Mike has put together there. I've done things I thought I would and could never do. They've all pushed me beyond my original strength and limits and I will continue to train here as long as I'm in Los Angeles! This is the BEST Crossfit EVER! CLARIFICATION; Whoever wrote about Mike (the owner) being "rude" really throws me off. Mike was actually really nice and patient on the phone. (trust me, I asked the stupidest questions, and he was not one bit condescending) I even met him TWO weeks after I chatted with him for my free 6 day trial course, and he STILL remembered who I was. He even made an effort to chat with me and tell me how CF works after the workout. COACHES: What makes the Valley Crossfit amazing are the wonder coaches that actually care. During my trial course, the coaches made an effort to learn your name and give you even more attention than normal. It's been a total of two weeks since I've gone here and I was never once disappointed. Sue and Richard were extremely attentive and they made me feel very welcomed to VCF. It was one of the big winning factors of why I've chosen this CF instead of the others. WORKING OUT: Durin every workout session I feel like I want to pass out and die (::plays dramatic music::). They really push you to your limit but they would give you modifications if necessary. After the workout you usually feel accomplished and it makes you think twice before you eat that cupcake. They also opened up a new 8PM beginner class with Brice (and DJ) on Tuesday and Thursday (both of them are extremely motivating and helpful to newbies like myself) FACILITY / CLASSES: The facility is huge, and the classes can have up to a dozen or more people, but there is always a coach and assistance helping out. They usually make sure you forms are correct, that you are challenging yourself. and they are rooting for you! Sometimes other coaches and long-term pro CF members keep an eye on you too and step in when its needed. There's a small parking lot inside and plenty of street parking. Small bathrooms, no showers, no lockers. People put up their gym bags on the huge racks. PRICE Unlike other CF, this VCF seems to be very giving. The prices are cheaper compared to others. AT VCF they actually give you a FREE 6 day trial period. (CF High Voltage only gives you one '1 to 1' session). If you think about it, you're investing in your health. You really feel a lot better when you complete the workouts. TRUST ME, it's a lot better than a local gym. Sometimes it's just better to pay a bit more for much better results. There are many payment options that you can choose from. I believe it's a month to month payment that will automatically be charged on the 1st of every month. NEWBIE PERSPECTIVE: As a new member, CF can feel a bit fast-paced and intimidating (I'm seriously the weakest one there.). But with the great community surrounding you, we're all striving for the same goal -- to be healthier and stronger. Some of the workouts are extremely challenging, but that's the beauty of progress. The coaches really guide you and support you. I try my best to stay hydrated and I get kind of weirded out that no one seems to drinks water during their workouts. I would strongly suggest to wear knee supports bands if you have weaker knees. GOOD durable cross-training shoes are also something you should keep in mind! If you do choose to call them, I'd leave a message. The coaches spend most of their times in the training arena, not staying in the office to answer your phone call. We came here on a 7-day trial period to see if we would like to sign up full-time or on some type of plan. Being a former college athlete, I was looking forward to the challenges and fast-paced training. I will say that the environment is good, people are very friendly and seem extremely motivated. You can tell that there are a number of regulars there that truly enjoy and believe in the program. I was most definitely super-sore, as I knew I would be. I felt that it was a good challenge and work out, but I would want less of the weight-lifting aspect, which I know is a HUGE part of cross-fit. My only issue was how expensive this is, and I wouldn't be able to justify it when I could get a personal trainer for probably less money. If I was rollin' in more dough, I might consider coming back. It is a good environment to keep up your fitness routine for sure. read more

Love it! I went here because of the reviews I read, and the seven day free trial. I've gone two days so far, had to take a day off because it literally hurts in the best way possible going up stairs. Once my trial is done, I'm definitely signing up. Coach Sue killed me the first day, and then Coach DJ eff'ed me up some more the second day. Third day (yesterday), I couldn't muster the strength to go. Oh, but I will go tomorrow and the next day, because as much as it hurts, it's awesome working as a team and sweating like crazy. Am I sore? Yeah. Am I tired? Yeah. Am I out of breath during the workouts? Yeah. Am I sweating? Yeah! It's working! Edit: 7-9-13 I signed up and I still love it. The workouts are fun and challenging. So far everyone I've met, the instructors and CrossFitees (yeah, totally made that up), are nice and more than willing to help. I went here on a whim to find out the money deal. They let me know that there's a free 7 day trial.... and believe I tried to go all 7 days. But the workouts they had us doing, on day 3 I felt like I was back in Marine Corps boot camp. My whole body hurt in the best way possible, but I wasn't back in for another 2 days from just being sore. The team effort aspect, as well as the challenges against others, and the physical and mental challenges it brings to you, it's all very amazing and very addicting. I can see why so many people live by crossift. Unfortunately, I have to pay for not just myself but my sig other, and this was just not wallet friendly to us. I decided to try CrossFit out for the first time at this gym and it has completely exceeded all of my expectations. The gym is always clean and organized. There are many classes throughout the day; the classes are tough, but not impossible to get through. Every coach is patient and knowledgeable and they take the time to teach you and make sure you are doing the exercise correctly. I've been training at this gym for 2 months now, and honestly this has been the BEST work out experience of my life. I've lost weight, gained toned muscle and am in the best shape of my entire life. I wrestled in college and high school and I was never in as good of shape as I am now. The trainers are friendly and the other gym members are incredibly supportive of each other. This isn't a gym where you just come in and quietly keep to yourself. This is a communal experience. Everyone works out together and in a strange way everyone is accountable to one another. This past weekend there was a Crossfit competition and VCF had a number of competitors. At least 20 people from the gym came out and cheered them on for 2 days! If someone finishes their work out before you they are right there to cheer you on and push you to being the best you can be. The only negative is crossfit is kind of expensive, but it gets results and its fun doing it. You'll find yourself eating healthier not to loose weight, but so get better at crossfit. Its incredible and if you go to one class (your first class is free) you will be hooked. Promise. read more

Not only is this the best place to do CrossFit, it's the best place to train period. If you're new to CrossFit, definitely try out a class or do some research to find out what CrossFit is. Once you've decided to try CrossFit, I assume you want to know why you should train at Valley CrossFit? 1. Best coaches - I know everyone says this, but they obviously haven't met the team at VCF (Valley CrossFit). 2. Best people - Everyone here is outgoing and friendly. But more importantly, the more experienced people are always willing to help you out or cheer you on to help you finish a WOD (Workout of the Day). 3. Biggest and best box - Tons of room to get through a WOD, tons of equipment, the best pull up bar system on the planet, etc. You really have to see this place in person; It'll blow your mind away. It's like seeing all of the roller coasters at Magic Mountain for the first time. There are so many things you can do here. Honestly, I could go on for hours talking about how great this place is, but it still wouldn't be as good as trying out a class. So what are you waiting for?! Get off the internet and go! read more

I have tried many a gym, workout fads, bootcamps, etc. I liked to mix it up and challenge myself in new ways by doing different movements and experiencing different trainers. But now, after finding VCF, I feel no need to try anything else out. Crossfit is for me and the results speak for themselves. I did not come to VCF with any goals to lose weight, or achieve any kind of lifting or fitness goals, but I have inadvertently done all of those things because of the amazing training and leadership there. I started out slow - once a week for a few weeks. Then it was 2 times a week for a few weeks. Then after about 3 months, I signed up for unlimited because I found myself wanting to be there and try more classes and challenge myself more. I cannot recommend this place with higher praise. I compete in Roller Derby with the Angel City Derby Girls and my endurance for my sport has greatly increased. I've also found that I can just control my body better in movements (skating and hitting). If you're even thinking about trying this place, just do it and walk through the door. You don't have to know how to lift, or do box jumps, or be fit already. All levels are there and at any level you can find a challenge. read more

I did Crossfit years ago when I was working as a travel nurse in Delaware. I decided to get back into Crossfit as a 58 year old. I had ben working out in a traditional gym, but to really lose weight, you need to work intensely over a short period of time. Traditional gyms are so packed that you cannot really do supersets as a way to tweak your training. The thing that I like with Crossfit is the social aspect of the classes. I also am thankful that the staff is willing to work at tweaking some of the exercises, as I have two arthritic knees, so things like Burpess, deep squats and heavy duty Plyometrics are out. I still get physically challenged with each class, and most WOD's( Work out of the days) are usually done within 15-20 minutes. By tweaking my diet, cutting way back on alcohol, I have lost 8 pounds in three weeks and am feeling better. read more

I have wanted to write a review about this box since the day I joined, but the constant upgrades and changes have made it difficult for me to give technical review on the facility. That said, I can no longer contain my excitement and rave about this box. Simply giving a run down of all the equipment available for use in this facility would make any crossfitter, or fitness enthusiasts drool. From gymnastic parallettes, rock climbing finger boards, to full sized trampolines, this gym has it all. It's quite amazing the breadth and depth of equipment this box holds. It helps that the owner Michael Latch is a jack of all trades. His interests in gymnastics, MMA, BJJ, jumprope and kettle bell fitness really shines through. Aside from the facility, VCF has some of the worlds most amazing athletes and coaches. From the 2010 Crossfit Games first place winner, Kristan Clever, 2011 3rd place winner, Rebecca Voigt, to the always inspiring and popular, Katie Hogan, this gym has it all. No other gym has the quality of coaching and standards this gym holds. But that's not all. There's a community here. After comparing boxes and gyms, VCF's community, or should I say family, was what won me over. Everyone cares about one another in the box, that's not to say other boxes aren't like this, I am only shedding light on the foundations of this gym. VCF was built on its community and family, that makes this box a truly special place to train. I have trained here for over 8 months, and something about the place just keeps me coming back for more. This is your one stop shop for full body fitness. I've been training in various fitness disciplines from competition swimming to martial arts, to parkour, to personal training, military fitness regimes, and standard gyms of every kind. I have not been pushed in such a supportive environment like I am here. Every fitness goal is different. What I like about Crossfit is the excitement I feel when I show up to group classes. I'm in the beginner classes, filled with a mix of backgrounds, and each work out is a blast. There will be as many as 15-20 people struggling along with me, cheering each other on as we push through the work out. And the work out is always different. That's what I like about it. There is no preparing for what the instructors creatively put together. You just show up, and put everything into it. The list of what makes Valley Crossfit amazing is long. Something like 15,000 sq feet of awesome. It looks like a grown up jungle gym with padded and raised floors for their amazing warm-ups, like rope climbing or wall jumping, or handstands. It really feels like your on a team. The atmosphere is incredibly supportive. You will be pushed. It is intense. And intensity is what makes a workout great. Often times the warm up is a worthy work out by itself. And that's what I like. It can be hard to motivate yourself to get to that next level of fitness. I promise, nothing about this place will bore you. Promote the athlete within, and give it a try. I'm a physical person and I feel that this fits right in with my lifestyle. I have been a member of Valley Crossfit for over two years. I looked for a crossfit gym after a recommendation from a friend from out-of-state. I searched for a gym near me. So I tried VCF and another local gym. Once I went to VCF, there was no looking back. Their coaches and facility are both world class. They are very knowledgeable and amazing athletes themselves. Every time I step into the gym I know I am in for a great workout. I am in the best shape of my life, and I am well into my 30's. Class description: All classes start with a warm-up, which usually has some form of strength training, new skills, and/or mobility work. The rest of the class is the Workout of the Day (WOD) as posted on the whiteboard during class. And depending on which coach, it can be a totally different workout. No pre-posted WODs. So it's always a surprise. I am grateful to have found such a great group of friends and a place to call my gym. This Facility is full of motivating and very knowledgeable individuals. It's always clean. And there are so many classes available throughout the day that there is no excuse why you can't make one! Exceptional. Fun. Communal. Inspiring. Badass. And effing HARD. That's what comes to mind when I think of VCF. CrossFit as a whole is designed to push the already-fit to new levels, and it's not for the faint of heart (nor those who think the StairMaster at LA Fitness or even P90X is necessarily adequate preparation for this workout). But this box, specifically, is more fun, organized, and supportive than any other I've tried or heard of. Every other box I've been to has been out of state, so maybe it's also a California thing ... but I tend to believe that Mike, the owner, has created a community in his gym that makes you not just want to push yourself, but go back to see those people who push you the best and hardest. Again, CrossFit is a badass workout, and in the hands of a lesser staff, injuries could be easy. Mike, Katie, Becca and all the trainers are careful to not just push you, but also DEVELOP you. I couldn't do pull-ups without help. Nobody asked me to do anything but push myself. I can now do 6 (um...still with help). :) Honesty is critical in this gym -- honesty with yourself and with your peers -- and that's huge for me. I can't imagine a better CF gym, quite honestly.
