Most disgusting experience. Worse ER in the Richmond Va area. No communications and the Dr's must have forgotten their Hippocratic oath.

Picking a hospital to deliver your baby at always comes with concerns about if you picked the right…read moreone, what happens if something goes wrong, etc. I toured a few hospitals and ultimately decided on Henrico doctor's because it just felt right during the tour. Given everything that's happened recently, I was a little nervous, but we are so glad that we chose to deliver here. I was unexpectedly hospitalized with pre eclampsia at 36 weeks. The doctors and staff kept me overnight for monitoring and decided I needed to have my baby. They made sure they educated us on all of our options and step by step what the plan was. My delivery was so much less stressful than when I had my son, even though it wasn't exactly an easy birth. All of the nurse staff and NICU nurses/doctor were in the room ready in case they were needed, which they were. A nurse stood by my bed holding my hand calmly explaining what was going on with baby so I wouldn't panic. The neonatologist has my partner call me on the phone to discuss what exactly was going on instead of trying to have a sleep deprived person try and relay everything. They also got us set up with their app to monitor our baby 24/7 in the NICU. The nurses did everything they could to get vitals on me overnight but not wake me. They regularly checked in to make sure I didn't need anything. If the camera for baby was moved or turned off because of diagnostics, the nurses called the NICU to have it put back on. Every place has a few bad eggs but our experience here overall has been so amazing in so many ways. Diane in the NICU has been the most comforting nurse to work with while our baby girl is staying there. Our first night hospitalized, Meagan made sure to check on us regularly, keep us informed on everything and answer any questions, and just good off with us some to help us relax. If you're on the fence about this hospital for delivery, you can't go wrong. We are forever grateful for everything and everyone here during this experience. Update: My daughter was in the NICU for almost 3 weeks. They had just opened back up so we were slightly nervous. They have an app for you to watch your baby when you can't be there. The first neonatologist we met was great at explaining what was going on and giving a clear treatment plan with the goals she needed to meet. After a few days we had a different neonatologist who also was great and even said we could be a little more forgiving with her goals so we thought maybe we'd get her out sooner. We had to call up there a few times to ask them to turn on the camera as it had been off for hours. After repeatedly having issues and being upset after a meeting with the occupational therapist we were assigned, I spoke to the director of the NICU. She was so understanding and met with me every day or two for a week to check in. We came in one day and had a third neonatologist. Their plan was different than the other two and my fiance and I just got very frustrated. The doctor talked to us to see what the frustration was and what they could do to help. Throughout her stay there were a few miscommunications, however overall we were very happy with their care for her. Leanne was her nurse for the last few days and she was fantastic! She left us little notes on her swaddle to let us know how she had done at her most recent feeding/check in. When she walked us out to the car she gave us a hug and told us to keep them updated. Except for one nurse that answered the phone when we called once, everyone we met in here was very caring. I changed my review to 4 stars only because it was very frustrating having the camera off a lot or it wasn't working.

I handed the paper to the front desk, and I explained the exact message from my doctor to at least three nurses. Then I explained it again to a doctor, and after keeping me there for an hour and a half, charging me for a full emergency room visit, they informed me that those tests are not something that they are capable of running at that facility. So they would need to transfer me to a hospital and check me in. Then they discharged me "Against Medical Advice" because I wasn't interested in them transferring me immediately to a hospital to become an inpatient there. They found absolutely nothing on my exam that would warrant transferring me to a hospital immediately. They only had my note from my ophthalmologist saying that he wanted these two tests to be run and that I should go to an ER and request those two tests. Why didn't they tell me that, when I walked in the front door with my Dr note on official letterhead, telling exactly which tests my ophthalmologist wanted them to run? Why did they waste my time and charge me for an emergency room visit when they could have told me immediately, at the front desk, that they cannot do those tests and that I should just go to the regular Dr instead? What a ridiculous way to respond to a request they already knew they were not equipped to fulfill. I walked in unassisted, clearly not in any emergency condition, simply because of the ophthalmologist' poor understanding of what the ER offers.

The sign said 10 minutes for a wait, but we were greeted as soon as we got in and taken back almost immediately. The two nurses immediately got his history and vitals. Dr. Parker was in shortly after and he was great! As he was explaining the diagnostics and what they were for, he made sure to talk directly to my 10 year old and use terms he'd understand. That made my son feel so much more comfortable. We had results shortly after the tests were done. I will definitely be sure to come back here next time we need urgent care. I've always been happy with HCA hospitals but it's so nice to have a satellite location nearby.

But for planned care appointments, my experiences have been as positive as they could be. I was treated with courtesy, politeness, and respectful care for each visit. Reception staff was efficient and patiently gave instructions and directions for check in. The Lab Corp technicians were incredibly kind and accommodating when I didn't feel well after a blood draw. The doctors and nurses I dealt with for procedures explained each step of the process and made sure I was comfortable. I really appreciate that from medical staff. Unfortunately my ER experience was not as pleasant. I was there on a Sunday night due to possible complications from a procedure earlier that week. Initial triage and placing an IV port was fairly prompt, within 30 minutes, but I then waited more than three hours to be seen. During that time a man suffering a true emergency arrived (screaming in pain and violently vomiting) and the staff took their sweet time to wheel him in and then took far too long again to get him from the waiting room. When I was finally seen a doctor did a very quick confirmation that I didn't need any immediate treatment and told me I could leave. But the staff actually forgot that I was in the room to give me discharge papers and remove my IV! I had to find someone myself. In all I was there for 5 hours and probably 15 minutes of it with medical staff. It also cost me well of $500 out of pocket after insurance.

The pain was still not controlled, and when I told the dr I was still in pain he started treating me like a drug seeker "we will not be giving you opioids tonight." Then when I got tired of his smart aleck attitude I asked him if he treated everyone this way. He just kept repeating "do you have any other questions?" Over and over. Then I'd ask him one and he would ask me "do you have any other questions?" I asked him why was he talking to me like a robot. I Then asked to speak to a patient advocate because I knew he was stereotyping me and refusing to treat my pain in an appropriate way. With a smirk on his face he said "it's the middle of the night on a Friday, no one's here but me." Then he walked out. His name was Dr (I use that title loosely) Jeffrey Mason. I will be contacting a patient advocate on Monday and reporting the way he degraded me. The charge nurse and all the other nurses there advocated for me but he wouldn't budge. It was weird. They saw the pain I was in. All he saw was what he wanted to see. People like HIM should not be Dr's.

It was my first time taking my son to the ER and you can def tell I had the mommy jitters. I didn't know what to expect and bringing my son who is nonverbal, autistic, and ADHD...you just worry as a momma. The nurses and doc in the back were fantastic. We were there for about 2.5-3 hours, which I think makes sense because we also had to get my son some of their numbing ointment before performing the stitches. They were so informative and so understanding with my son. The doc was fantastic with my son when doing the stitches and def quick hands. At the end of this visit, he ended up walking out with 3 stitches. 2nd Visit - my son woke up with the right side of his face super swollen. It was 6:30 in the morning and I literally put on a jacket and took him straight here. I also couldn't think of another place that was open at that time and his pediatrican didn't open up until 8 so...you can see why I decided here. There is Urgent Care parking next to the building and since I'm experienced I was able to bring a packed backpack with things to keep him occupied. We got checked in and brought to the back quickly like the last time. The nurses were fantastic and listened to our concern and what was going on with our little guy (nothing new, no new detergent, no new foods - what is going on?!) They kept me updated along the way with EVERYTHING they were planning on doing and explaining the reason why. It was scary but relieving at the same time. We ended up getting admitted to the hospital upstairs (which I am so grateful I decided to take him to the UR here). Again, everyone in the ER were wonderful and I HIGHLY recommend this place for kids. Thank you!

We headed to the regular side and the kind men in the vestibule stopped us and directed us to another door, which was the opening to the pediatric ER. The whole experience was great. We were able to check in immediately, then we waited about 45min for triage. Once we got in to triage, they did a quick explanation of what was going on and sent us to a room immediately. I really appreciated that, as breathing issues are nothing to play with. It was extremely validating that they saw fit to treat us right away. Once we were in the room, the doctor came in within about 5-10 minutes. He was nice, but kind of loud and quick? I don't know how else to explain it. He wasn't my absolute favorite, but he got the job done. Let us know what was going on, and ordered x rays and treatment. The x rays were done shortly after and then a nurse came in to give meds. The only negative I would say is that we sat there waiting for a really long time without any explanation of what was going on. I thought we were waiting for them to start a certain treatment on my son, but they never came and did it. So finally someone came in to check on him and updated me that they decided not to do the treatment, that he looked good, and I guess all the wait was for them to observe him to see if he got better after the initial dose of meds. All fine and good! I just wish that someone had updated us on the treatment plan so we knew why we were waiting. Anyway, we were discharged around 2:30am and my son was definitely showing signs of improvement. I was really happy with the nurse who helped us. She was an angel and continued to ask us if we had any questions, which we did and she answered so patiently. Kidmed is only open from 2pm-8 or 9pm, and of course the doctor's office is only open during business hours, so whenever my kids get sick outside of those hours, I am definitely coming back to the St. Mary's Pediatric ER!
