Terrible visit. I walked in the front door with a note from my ophthalmologist, explaining exactly which tests he wanted me to go and have run "at the ER". I handed the paper to the front desk, and I explained the exact message from my doctor to at least three nurses. Then I explained it again to a doctor, and after keeping me there for an hour and a half, charging me for a full emergency room visit, they informed me that those tests are not something that they are capable of running at that facility. So they would need to transfer me to a hospital and check me in. Then they discharged me "Against Medical Advice" because I wasn't interested in them transferring me immediately to a hospital to become an inpatient there. They found absolutely nothing on my exam that would warrant transferring me to a hospital immediately. They only had my note from my ophthalmologist saying that he wanted these two tests to be run and that I should go to an ER and request those two tests. Why didn't they tell me that, when I walked in the front door with my Dr note on official letterhead, telling exactly which tests my ophthalmologist wanted them to run? Why did they waste my time and charge me for an emergency room visit when they could have told me immediately, at the front desk, that they cannot do those tests and that I should just go to the regular Dr instead? What a ridiculous way to respond to a request they already knew they were not equipped to fulfill. I walked in unassisted, clearly not in any emergency condition, simply because of the ophthalmologist' poor understanding of what the ER offers. read more

My son started having a fever, headache, and sore throat. Due to his history with fevers, we decided to take him in at 830 pm on a Monday to be safe. The sign said 10 minutes for a wait, but we were greeted as soon as we got in and taken back almost immediately. The two nurses immediately got his history and vitals. Dr. Parker was in shortly after and he was great! As he was explaining the diagnostics and what they were for, he made sure to talk directly to my 10 year old and use terms he'd understand. That made my son feel so much more comfortable. We had results shortly after the tests were done. I will definitely be sure to come back here next time we need urgent care. I've always been happy with HCA hospitals but it's so nice to have a satellite location nearby. read more

I went to Hanover Emergency Center in tears from the pain. I couldn't swallow, talk, or eat my throat was throbbing, my ear was hurting, and my neck felt swollen. I explained everything clearly and was visibly in distress, but I still wasn't taken seriously. The visit felt rushed, and they gave me as strep test and claimed I didn't have it and stated they think I had viral pharyngitis, they didn't check thoroughly, and didn't prescribe me any medication at all. Later, I went to a different hospital where I was finally tested and diagnosed with strep throat and acute otitis in my right ear. Two infections completely missed. I could've started healing sooner if Hanover had taken the time to truly listen and check. Instead, I was sent home still in pain, confused, and without any help. This experience was frustrating and honestly heartbreaking. I expected compassionate, careful care from an emergency center, but I left feeling ignored and still suffering. I wouldn't recommend going here if you're in serious pain or need urgent care that actually helps. read more

We had to go back, F/U to the original issue. It was packed on a Monday afternoon. They did what I would call (with my zero medical experience) triage. After folks checked in, they were called back for blood pressure and other basic things and sent back to the waiting area. To me, this meant a way to ensure there was not an urgent underlying issue that may not be part of the reason that peeps checked in for - and to expedite when a room was assigned. The blonde at the reception desk may have been the same as our prior visit... no matter, she was moving and shaking - facilitating moving people around as needed to make us feel like things were progressing. It really helps to see movement of any kind when you are waiting. IMO. We had another good experience. They were very busy, but things moved along. The nurse and doc were great, as was the CAT scan tech. Again, our doctor spent time with us. Given how busy it was, he could have said "X" and follow up with "X". He did not, we had a discussion. We left with good advice and a disc of our scan. Another good visit. read more

I literally dragged myself in the door then collapsed at the reception desk. They immediately placed me in a treatment room, made me comfortable and started an IV. Quickly diagnosed I was dehydrated after 11 days of COVID. Three hours later I walked out feeling 100% better. They were quick, effective and MOST IMPORTANTLY CORRECT in their diagnosis. I came here in terrible shape front desk lady so rude short wait but the dr acted like there was a huge hurry but I was the only one there. Long story short. I practically begged him to take a second look after diagnosing me with simple sinus infection. Amoxicillin he prescribed me didn't work after 3 days everything was worse showed up to mcv with 103.7 deg temp and heart failure. Zero stars should be an option. I visited this ER on April 1. I thought I had food poisoning. I had been sick the entire day and night before with abdominal pain that caused vomiting and diarrhea. My friend took me to this ER, and they would not even acknowledge my presence until my friend checked me in via the computer check-in. I was on my hands and knees in severe pain. The doctor on call examined me and ordered bloodwork - both of which indicated something was very wrong. I received medicine and fluids via IV and was released to go home. No urine test or CT scan was done. Eight hours later I was in emergency surgery with a burst appendix. I spent seven days in the hospital recovering from the surgery and a secondary infection that involved having a tube inserted through my nose and down my throat to drain the infection from my stomach. The ER doctor went with my assumption of food poisoning and never discussed anything else with me - including my high white blood count. Further, I was physically shaking on the examination table with chills from the medicine. When we asked for additional blankets, we were ignored. My friend then went to ask if he could be directed to where blankets were, and we were treated as an inconvenience who had "interrupted a meeting." Horrible experience all around. read more

By far the worst experience we have ever had at a hospital ER. The wait time was over 2 hours with No one in the waiting room. Just to be brought back in another room for over 3 hours. The nurse came in twice and the dr once. All they could tell us was it was we don't know when we can get you seen. And we don't know when we can get you out of here. All we want to do is leave and go home as we are not being helped at all. On top of it this hospital is beyond unsanitary. There is dried blood on the outside of the biohazard box. My Primary Care Physician does not do any x-rays in his office and he ordered a chest x-ray. My Physician sent me to the Hanover Imaging next to the HCA emergency room by Rutland. When I arrived to the imaging center, I questioned its affiliation to the HCA ER next door, which I was told that it was not the ER, that they are just located next to the ER. I was registered and was asked if I wanted to pay any amount. I paid 50$ and had 2 views completed for my chest x-ray. I only saw the front desk person when I registered and the xray tech that took my x-ray. When I saw what was billed to my insurance company and the amount I was responsible for, it almost sent me to the ER in cardiac arrest!!!!! My insurance was billed $958 and my responsible amount, which I received a bill from HCA, was $409.99. FOR A CHEST X-RAY? REALLY? Try googling the average cost of a chest x-ray in the state of Virginia, which is NOT $958 or $409.99. I had a follow up visit w/my Physician this week, which he was livid when I explained the amount that was billed and my responsible amount. My Physician wants me to give him an update after I investigate more on this exuberant amount. I have spoken with my insurance company to make sure the claim was billed correctly, which it was. I have called x2 to the number provided on the website, which comes up as Hanover Emergency Room, when trying to look for Hanover Imaging....there is no separate number for the "NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE ER" imaging center. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! took husband there bc he had punctured his lower leg on a branch. five days later after putting triple antibiotic ointment on every day and changed bandage and his leg was swollen from his knee to his foot and very warm to touch. his pcp said to take him there or a emergent care if his leg was swollen bc his schedule was full and it was fri. all the dr did was walk n the room looked at his leg said it probably should have had a stitch at the time of injury and turned to leave saying he would give him topical ointment to which i replied he had already put that on for 5 days and it was worse and he said he would give him a different one. i asked him if he was going to give him oral antibiotic and he said no. he didnt touch it to c if it was hot. when we left called husbands pcp and he said take him back for an oral antibiotic. i called and that dr was gone for day so i left msg for him to call at 7 am next day when he came back in. no call. i took husband to his pcps office mon and a dr there did give him oral antibiotic. that dr and the director at that location did nothing re the care he got. if u want an antibiotic for an injury like my husbands u might not want to go there! i got a refund of the $48 we paid at that time from hen drs complaint dept. yesterday we got a bill for $12 the discount we were given when we were n er if it was paid then usually $60. i had to call billing and was told sometimes the "discount' "falls off". i bet they do this all the time. most ppl probably just pay it bc not a lot. the woman said she would take it off. what a mess! doctors think they r a god and r not accountable to anyone. read more

I've been to this center twice in the last two weeks. Both times were for completely different things. In both instances I was seen immediately. Both the nurses and the Doctors were compassionate and caring. Reading the negative reviews is so surprising too me, as my experience was so different. If you don't want too wait hours I would highly recommend this Emergency Center. read more

We took my mother there a couple weeks ago and Jenn C was there and helped us out so much! Of course we were nervous (nobody likes being in a hospital) but her hospitality, kindness, and support for both my mom and my family really helped us all. I had a horrible experience last Wed when I was brought in with severe vomiting and chills. After giving me some fluids, they determined I should go to Henrico Drs Parham because they couldn't do anything for me since my flu and COVID rapid tests were negative. They would call for transport. Fine. Then we waited. And waited. 5-7 hrs later, we get a call that the hospital had a room waiting for us- where were we? We were told we had to wait for transport. Doctor said he had already called them twice and no one heard anything. I went in at 130p. At 915pm I signed my self out- still wearing a portal and my husband got me to the hospital in 15 min. I was treated right away for a blood infection And I am grateful. I will never go to any stand alone ER again. If it's bad I'll just go wait at the hospital. read more

I did not like this place at all. I should have gone to patient first over this place. Then I get a bill for $275.00 after my insurance pays them whatever. I go in feeling real dizzy, headache and confused. The ambulance company suggested going there, I had never heard of them. I was stuck in a room at the end of a hall and no one could even hear me when I yelled for help to get up. They leave you there for an hour without even checking on you. No blood work, nothing. No Covid test or flu test. Give you a bag of fluids and tylenol and send you home to feel bad two more days. The beds are horrible. The side rails kill your arms. An older adult that bruises easily would get hurt on the piddly siderails. You don't feel good and you have to sit there and fill out information on a computer. I wasn't impressed at all with this place. I was all alone and after I got dressed they could care less if you got out ok or not. I would not go back here. read more

Hanover Emergency Center is an HCA facility located on 301 in Hanover County. I find that this was a really good addition because it is a stand alone facility. Here there is the ER side and then a side for imaging. Both of which I have been to previously. I am writing this review because my mom recently was a patient here. I was very pleased with the service from the moment we walked in. We had just sat down and they called her name just like that and her nurse assisted her to her room. The facility is always clean, the wait time has been quick every time we've been patients, the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. You don't have to worry about the hassle of looking for parking or paying for parking as they have plenty of spaces. The good thing here is if for some reason you have to be admitted the ambulance can take you to any HCA facility of your choice without the extra cost, of course you can choose any area hospital. I must say working in a hospital in the Richmond area I would rather come here because it's less of a hassle to be seen. All in all I have nothing negative to say about Hanover ER. read more

I brought my son to this facility over the weekend since urgent cares were closed late at night. The one nurse (I believe her name was Jennifer) was absolutely amazing. She made my son feel comfortable and was very attentive to our needs. The other female nurse (Stephenie I think) was so rude we almost left if it weren't for the first nurses outstanding care. We got an X-ray within the first hour and the person there was very professional. Dr. Feras was wonderful and really took his time talking to me and explaining everything. If it weren't for the brunette nurse I would definitely give this place five stars. read more

This is an incompetent healthcare center that offers the worst emotional and physical care to citizens. They should not be allowed to work with patients given their level of "careless attitude " I have had the worst experience and two weeks later I am still dealing with the trauma of interacting with them. The office staff have no empathy and compassion. Today, I was cutoff in mid conversation and talked over after calling over 10 times for results in the past 2 weeks.I was told to use the portal but funny thing is no one offered me that option. No stars had to pick one to write my comment. Took my 7 mo old son there the other night high fever and just sick. The nurse checked his temp which doesn't even touch the forehead and is not accurate at all which said my son did not have a temp. The dr came in and tried to tell him my son was running a fever and he said my son wasn't. The whole time he was in there the only thing he was worried about was preaching about the Covid vaccine and he couldn't believe my family and I refused to get it. Tried to say the vaccine has been around form15 yrs lol. But needles to say another nurse came in and seen my son had a fever and gave medicine. The dr said my son had an infected ear but they also wanted to check him for Covid. Funny part is the dr said if the Covid test comes back positive to stop the antibiotic. Had to call the hospital to get the results they couldn't even call me. I acted like the dr never said to stop antibiotic, I asked her if I should continue to give it to him and she said of course because there could be multiple infections going on. Then I told her the dr said to stop the medicine and she got shady saying well I don't know cause the dr isn't here right now. called his primary dr and got everything straight. I will never go back here and wouldn't recommend this place for an animal hell I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy. This place is pathetic. They always have minimal staff and have no sense of urgency whatsoever. Patients in extreme pain are ignored and the staff truly didn't care about the patients distress. Carlson, the attending physician, didn't listen when I said I was still in pain. He didn't listen when I told him the antibiotic wasn't working. As evidence, he prescribed the SAME antibiotic...the one that I said wasn't working. Puzzled? Me too as was the pharmacist who filled it. As was the pharmacist who recommended this "place". The bathroom was FILTHY. I mean covered in all kinds of hazmat from humans. Who cleaned it. This was in 2014. The nurse who witnessed this glorious scene later wrote me a personal note. At least one person had sense -- and compassion. Don't bother with this place. Go to a real hospital. With real honest to God doctors...Because real, honest to God doctors, help people. My mother had pneumonia but waited in the lobby for two hours when no one else was there. The staff told her at 2 AM they had to get her out of there because they needed to close down their computers. That was the company problem and should not have been mentioned to my family at all. Her treatment was inadequate so she had to visit her doctor two days later. My family will never go there again and this facility will try to transport you to a hospital much further away than a closer one just so they can make more money! read more

A hot mess. Will never go there again. Took my daughter in for a knee injury, the front staff were unpleasant, the nurses were rude, and the doctor had absolutely NO bed side manners. We went in at 7:11pm, saw 2 cars in the parking lot aside from ours...we did not leave until after 10:34 pm. The facility was nice and clean, but the staff was MOST unpleasant. DON' T GO HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE TIME TO WASTE. I went on 1/20/18 after running into a post,knocked out and had severe pain. Told the Dr. my low back was killing me and i couldn't lay on table without having knees up, leg hurt to the ankle and my arm. XRAY of hand and1 flexeril. I called and got my records to see initial reason and it was extremity pain, low back pain and ALL he did was 1 xray for a ton of money. Therefore i had to wait 10 days to get in with orthopaedic to find out i had a compression fracture in back, sciatica issues and needed PT for headaches and hip pain after fracture healed. Again it was more money for what should have been done first time. Patient advocate does not return calls and insurance doesn't call it FRAUD. read more

DO NOT GO THERE! I wish there was a minus-star category. They just want your money. I went to get swabbed for the flu. The entire TWO HOURS I was there (no other patients that I could see and a staff of five including two at front desk, a nurse, a physician, and another staff member), the doctor (Carlson?) tried to up sell me the entire time I was there. The swab for the flu was negative. Even though he could not prescribe Tamiflu because my virus could not be addressed by the vaccine, he advised a complete blood and urine workup because I had aches. As I said to him, yes, I did--because I had a fever and a virus. He didn't disagree; however, his insistence--and that of the nurse--for these additional tests caused me to have to sign a waiver that I was leaving against medical advice. I explained I had a doctor and that I had blood and urine and an EKG done as part of my annual physical by my personal physician only a couple of weeks prior and that I would share his recommendation with my doctor when I returned home to Baltimore. He then backed off and said that he was "paranoid" about not prescribing such measures. (I wondered then if he was paranoid that he was going to be chastised by the physican owners for not maximizing costs they could bill to insurance.) He offered me Tylenol and then the nurse tried to "sell" it to me. I was told by the nurse that if I paid my projected co-pay of $150 on the spot, that they would discount it to $120. What I found out subsequently was that this was nothing less than a ploy for immediate payment because my co-pay was always $120--not the $150 she claimed! I also subsequently discovered they billed my insurance company more than $1,000 for this visit. No one from there has contacted as to my health or my experience there. It's apparently solely a money-making venture by its owners, Henrico Doctors. Wonder how much they would have charged if I had allowed the blood and urine work ups? Unbelievable--and highly unethical. read more
