I've been mountain e-bike shopping for a few months, and this shop finally had exactly what I was looking for at the perfect price. Firstly, the guys working there made me feel totally comfortable and were very welcoming, unlike most shops where it seems like the workers act snooty if you don't know what you're looking for or haven't really been apart of the "cycling" community. They helped me pick out the perfect bike at an AMAZING price. Husband also was in the market for one and found the model he wanted at their other shop in Goleta, but this shop had no problem transferring that bike to their own location within a day so that we could grab em at the same time. They were even nice enough to give us two water bottles EACH for free, and they also told us to just "rip it up" on our new bikes and our first tune up will be complimentary. The Velo pro shop on State street gets all my bike business. In a world where Trek and Specialized buys up local shops, they are locally owned and independent. I have had excellent work done by the VP mechanics fitting a high end suspension fork, adjusting an eBay gravel bike and performing CPR on my old Waterford. Whether one of the "kid" mechanics or the grizzled wheel builder, I have always been totally satisfied with the work these guys do. This is an awesome bike shop. Anyone can learn the basics to fixing a bike, and selling some equipment. If you stick long enough with it, you'll become pretty good at it too. I however am probably one of their most difficult customers. This is the only shop in town who knows how to handle a borderline unreasonable customer like myself. The main reason is because I used to bike race, and I am so particular about the smallest things on my bike...but there's a reason I come back to this shop. I ride a bmx bike like a sprinter on a road bike, and that's difficult to imagine, let alone service in a shop. This next part of the review however is for Greg. Greg is so busy he doesn't clock in or out. He's either running around guiding his staff, making deals with a sales rep, or ordering parts on the phone. This guy just doesn't stop! I got him to pause for a moment to help me find some gloves for my cold morning bike rides. Greg spent an hour helping me find the perfect gloves. Not too hot, not too cold, padding in the right areas, and all of these for very specific reasons uncommon to a normal cyclist. He really focused on my needs and my particulars. He even enlightened me in areas that only a professional shop manager would know. While most shop employees usually roll their eyes to unique and sometimes weird specific questions, Greg embraced my reasons, and made me feel special by listening to my point of view and reasons for being so picky (a lot of it has to do with leverage, power transfer, and smoothness of riding). If everyone could be as attentive, quick, and enthusiastic about helping customers and their quirks, all bike shops would have more business. I walk into shops where the service teams are condescending, and the front door employees are obviously at the wrong job. I don't know if that's the culture, but there's nothing more important to making or breaking a customer experience than simply being interested in the human being walking through the door. Even though Greg can't give you his attention every time, when he does it's a special experience. I've bought 5 bikes from him for this very reason. Took a bike I bought off Craigslist to these guys. They did a general tune up and helped me out with some of the compatibility issues with the hardware the previous owner installed. I'm more prone to leave a review when the service is less than stellar. However, Don at Velo Pro Cyclery exceeded all expectations. I have several bikes that have been exposed to the Santa Barbara elements for the last three years with NO maintenance or ride time. Pictures would be worth a thousand words here: chains were rusted, heavy layer of dust on the frames, handle bar grips turned to goo under the salt air--I could go on. Needless to say, these are not inexpensive bikes and well worth the money to conduct the repairs needed to make them road worthy again. I googled bike shops near my Zip and came up with 2 or 3 in the area. I was familiar with Velo Pro due to its location. However, had no idea what to expect on service. I prepared for the worst and expected $300 plus per bike between labor and parts the bike shop would say needed to be replaced along with a week to two week lead time to have the bike returned. Let me stop and reflect on another bike shop experience. Previously, when I took my bike to a another shop in the SB area for a tune up, I asked the mechanic if he could wipe my bike down while performing the tune up and repairs (a quick "mini" detail"). This mechanic looked at me like I had three eyes and told me the shop did not have time to clean bikes and the lead time was approximately 7 days to get it back. I took this as "what to expect" since I did not originally purchase my bike at this location. Back to my experience with Don. Don was extremely helpful when I came in and had my bike on the rack within a couple of minutes of walking in the door. He quickly looked over the things that NEEDED to be replaced and put my mind at ease regarding other components as being merely cosmetic in nature but, still in good functional order. Alas, he told me my bike would be ready in three days and provided me with an extremely fair estimate for repairs. Velo Pro called me the next evening to let me know my bike was ready for pick up (less than 24 hours for a major tune up). At this juncture, while I could have been skeptical about the quick turn around and low cost, I was impressed on how quickly they made the repairs and came over the following morning to pick up my bike. Remember my experience at the other bike shop? I did, and expected to pick up a rideable, functional, DIRTY bike and be happy I could get back to riding. Don was out of the shop when I went in. Another gentlemen pulled my bike from the back. It glistened like it had been washed and waxed. OMG---NOT ONLY DID THEY REPAIR MY BIKE THAT HAD BEEN SITTING OUTSIDE FOR CLOSE TO THREE YEARS: Velo Pro showed the attention to detail and pride of workmanship in throughly wiping the grime down. Velo Pro is my new favorite bike shop. I've subsequently brought two additional bikes in for the same professional, expedient, high quality tune up at fair rates and look forward to purchasing my next bike from them. read more

My chain came off the sprockets while I was shifting & I couldn't get it back on as it was jammed in there. I walked my bike to Velo Pro on Hitchcock & one of the employees there came right away & put my chain back on the sprockets. He was very kind. Very happy with this shop, since they took over Bicycle Bobs (which I had some negative experiences with). Purchased a new mountain bike for my son's 13th Birthday the other day. Person at the counter sent out Andy to help us. He sized up my son and quickly pulled down a couple of bikes that were in our price/size range. My son tried them out in the parking lot. The larger, (medium) size ended up working well, and will keep up with him as he grows. Final price was actually lower than the sticker showed, and we used the 2017, 10% off Axxess discount. They gave the bike a quick tune, and offer a free follow-up adjustment in ~30 days to compensate for any settling (screws, cables, etc.). Everyone at Velo Pro is very professional and courteous; couldn't be happier with the experience, and my son is absolutely thrilled with his new bike! read more

My Dad's wheelchair brake broke off and I took it in on the chance that the Velo Pro Bicycle shop might be able to repair it. Boy, did I get lucky when I brought the wheelchair in. Don is a definite wizard at bicycle repair and he was able to repair my Dad's wheelchair brake, and in less than 20 minutes! The repair was priced very fairly as well. Don has a wonderful friendly attitude which makes you feel welcome at their shop. I highly recommend VELO PRO on Hitchcock for your bicycle and bicycle repair needs. (And your Wheelchair needs!) I am riding my bicycle down the coast with my girlfriend. I had some issues with my bicycle that was making some very horrendous sounds. My drivetrain was making all sorts of weird noises. I rode from Portland with no issues until I was riding down a hill and my crank arms started to seize up a bit. Anyway... long story short- velo cycles hooked me up hugely! I paid with a credit card and didn't have any cash but I really wanted to leave them a huge tip! Kyle ended up fixing my bike immediately upon arrival (pushing a previous project he was working on to the side to make time for my bike). He and Brian were hugely helpful and kind! They even gave us the most amazing recommendation on where to get the best tacos in town I've ever had! Ordering tacos a Mano from now on! Anyway, I'm leaving this long ass review because these guys are amazing and I'm sure they go through a bunch of bullshit on a daily basis and work their asses off! They need to get paid a lot of money so that they can go out and have more fun and live a great life! They surely made my life much better, safer, and smoother with the utmost professionalism and consideration! I recommend Velopro for their selection and service. Prompt and courteous every time I've been in the shop. Almost every repair or adjustment I've had done to my road bike has taken less then an hour for them to complete. You can tell the staff is very close with one another and with the cycling community as a whole. They treat their customers as if they were family and that says a lot. I had been in an accident with my bike and they were courteous to do a full inspection for safety and adjust my derailer that was damaged from the crash. Took bike in for service and was told my bike needed extra work done. I said okay but then when going to pick-up my bike was told there additional items that needed replaced that were damaged beyond repairable. I was shown damaged parts that looked very recently damaged - which would be impossible based on my usage. These damages were very fresh and were not on my bike or bike components before I dropped off my bike. The mechanic became confrontational when I asked about these issues and denied that these damages could have happen while at their shop. Simply put - I dropped off a bike needing minor repairs and this shop damaged my bike and charged me for the fixed. Completely unethical and the attitude of the mechanics was downright awful. read more

Very unsatisfied with the member of staff I spoke too and will not be a customer at VeloPro from now on and will definitely tell others not to shop there. The member of staff was more interested in closing down the shop before closing time than they were in making a $400-$500 sale. I was going to buy several Brooks Saddles and received a look of I'm too busy closing. The date I attempted to shop was 4-11-2018; fire the liability please before more people turn to Amazon/EBay to buy their cycles/parts.
