Now for the bad, and let me preface this by mentioning that I spent a good portion of my adulthood racing and working in various bike shops. And I was the service manager in one, so I have a LOT of bike mechanic experience. If I were the service manager of this shop, I'd have fired the person who built my bike. Today I bought a particular TREK MTB at this store, because unfortunately my usual store didn't have one and couldn't get one. First problem: you are NOT supposed to use grease on a carbon seatpost with a carbon frame. It's LITERALLY PRINTED on the back of the seatpost, though it's something any good mechanic should know anyway. Sure enough they assembled it with tons of grease, and within just a 1 mile ride, the post slid down a good inch. So I degreased the post, and put 'carbon paste' on it to keep it from happening again. Second problem (picture attached): they mounted the remote shock lockout outboard of the brake lever, which means there's nowhere for your thumb to go when you wrap your hand around the grip. A simple look at the TREK website shows it's installed wrong. And switching them around after requires removing the grip. Sometimes that can be done without destroying the grip, sometimes it can't. So I've already had to buy new grips to fix their mistake. There were several other minor things that never would have been acceptable at my shop, but this is long enough already. I guess if you're looking for a very basic shop, or if you have your own mechanical skills, they're an acceptable choice. Otherwise, I'd highly suggest you look elsewhere. Oh, also, to make it even more insulting, they try to sell you a $150 tune-up plan, which just means you pay up front to have them continue to provide you with subpar repair service. Disappointed mostly because working in a bike shop was always more than just a blow-off job to me. Sad to see that's not the case here. I won't be back.

But that did not stop them from getting me right in getting my inner tube switched out and checked out all in a matter of less than 15 minutes. Blake is the best! This is hands-down, the best bike shop in Metro Detroit/ all of SE Michigan. I said what I said…read more There is nothing quite like a locally-owned bike shop full of incredible human beings who are truly passionate about what they do, and who have taken the time to build an entire community around that. * CHEF'S KISS * I so appreciate all of the effort that this shop POURS into the local community: hosting events with the All Bodies on Bikes organization, hosting cycling clinics and events for the local Venture Out women's group, hosting drawings to give away bikes to local children, being a sponsor of the local velodrome, running support for the local mountain bike events/races, running support for the local cyclocross races, hosting regular weekly shop rides, etc, etc. I love that they've brought a local artist in to do regular chalk murals on the wall in the front of the shop - how cool is that??? All of the brands that CFC carries, are all top-notch, quality brands. I appreciate that they believe in everything that they carry - you know you're getting something good and not junk just to sell junk. I did a bike fit with Larry several months ago, and I am overdue for a maintenance fit as I prep for a big race in the next few months. Larry is incredible to work with. Not only is he an amazing human being to begin with, he is full of knowledge and an excellent teacher who wants your participation and understanding in the bike fit that you're getting. I felt very comfortable asking all of the "stupid" questions, and working with him to figure out exactly what I needed to get a good fit. Whether you're new to riding, or just haven't ever taken the time to get a professional bike fitting, I would 100% recommend scheduling a fit with Larry to make sure that you are comfortable and getting the most out of your bike. If you're in the market for a new bike, looking for bike maintenance, looking for ideas for modification or inspiration, looking for bike accessories, or just looking for local trail recommendations, this place is absolutely a must visit. I will never ever hesitate to recommend Clever Fox Cyclery.

I scheduled a fitting with Larry, and he spent over two hours helping dial in my current bike. As someone new to cycling, his expertise was incredibly helpful. He walked me through riding technique, pedal options, and how to properly line up my cleats and shoes. I recently purchased a new bike from Clever Fox, and Larry again spent another two hours making sure the bike was adjusted perfectly so it fit comfortably. After getting my first flat, I called Larry and he connected me with Carson, who helped me out even though the store was closed so I wouldn't miss a day of riding. The level of knowledge and service from everyone at Clever Fox has been outstanding. I'll definitely be coming back for all my cycling needs.

They have some of the best service I have ever received when it comes to bicycles. I have personally bought my own bike here 3 years ago, and it's still going strong. They really took the time to assess what was important to me in a bike and made suggestions around that. They seriously have about 60+ bikes for adults in the showroom along with another 20+ for kids as well as one of the most complete parts/accessories selection around. You're a skater you say? No worries. They have you covered as well. Boards, wheels, bearings, tattoos, meth...Hey you kids! Stay of my grass! Damn kids, with their hip and their hop! Okay, so I have no clue what boarders like or need, but they have a nice selection of things that one could ask for....I tried to be like Tony Hawk and do a 920 McTwist, but wouldn't you know McDonald's doesn't serve anything like that. I think Avril Lavigne was there last time but that's unconfirmed :) I have twice been here in the past 3 months getting tires fixed (flats) that cost me less than $12 (including labor) each to fix. - That's fantastic! They are quick to greet you, take your bike, and get it fixed all while you are waiting. The owner, Al, has been there every time I have been in there which says a lot to me as far as being hands on. I have found him extremely kind, funny and genuine. The bad? Really nothing. I can say that the other employees are young (late teens - early 20's) and aren't very polished with customer service skills/interactions so it seems that they are very awkward speaking to people. The prices for the bikes (not accessories) are higher than your average Target or Trash-mart (Walmart) but the lifetime tuneups and service well make up for it. Plus, I'm a huge small business supporter. Do yourself a favor, next time you are in the market for a new bike or board, need service or just have questions, take a trip to Al's Quick Release - it's well worth the trip. Now, if you don't mind, I need to squeeze into these bicycle shorts (illegal in 35 countries), and go meet Lance Armstrong...
