This is my go-to pedi place in Oviedo. I love that you get a little drink with your service, which is probably the big thing that keeps me coming back here. A little sad when I say it loud, but Mama is looking for PEACE, ya know? All beauty businesses should give their clients a little champagne to get into pamper mode! Am I right, or am I right? That being said, the service here can be hit or miss. I never manage to keep track of technician's names that I particularly like--or when I do, they're gone after a few appointments. I've never been upset about the finished product, but pedis are a little more low stakes than manicures. I have had the occasional "rough" technician, where the relaxation is disturbed by occasional pain. And you only need to be sliced open by the sharp edge of a nail file once before you're on high alert to prevent it ever happening again. I just wish I could count on pure relaxation when coming here. On my last visit, I'm sad to say my chair was straight up dirty. Both side tables on the chair and their cup holders had not been cleaned in obviously quite some time. I know this because it looked like the inside of our car when a detailing is long overdue! There was evidence of multiple spills which had gotten sticky and had started collecting dust and grime. I'm no clean freak but it's such an easy thing to restore to sparkling! A cloth dipped in hot water with a tiny bit of sanitizing/cleaning agent, zero elbow grease, and the chair would have looked brand new. And while I have no doubt they sanitize their tools, it makes you wonder what else they're letting slide. My daughter got an acrylic set on my last visit as well. The tech did a great job with my teen's polish design, which was of course very specific, but the work on the acrylics was just...bad. The fingernails were molded upwards at an angle like her nails were peeling backwards at the base. I didn't say anything because I didn't see the finished product until the end, but I also didn't want my teen thinking the nails she just got for her event were "bad." I will be coming back here, but this last visit was the first in a long time and upon re-entering I realized my less frequent pedis were because the place just isn't as relaxing as it once was. Like I said, not giving up on Velvet, but I am always on the lookout for the Pedi Heaven I seek. I hope they can bring it! read more

The nail tech I saw was friendly and chatty but this is the worst gel builder I've ever had. Henry just slapped the gel on quickly. It ended up caked in my nail beds, all over my skin, under my nails. This is the first time I've had gel builder lift on the edges. Especially after just a week I was surprised. Usually builder lasts me 3 weeks, no issue. I repeatedly asked for him to round out my short nails and he would file an edge, then move on. I also have serious concerns about cleanliness after witnessing a dirty cuticle clipper be tossed in a drawer full of clippings. Would not recommend. read more

I've been here twice now and it's been subpar both times so I won't be going back. First time I had to go because they were the only nail place open late and second time I wanted to use the 10% off they sent but with the overcharging, it meant nothing. CONS -it's not very sanitary as I don't see much cleaning in the manicure area between clients -they charge you for a manicure but you don't actually get one....the first time I had to remind to get basics like cuticle care, the second time I didn't get that even though I paid $100 -guy tried to charge me extra for cat eye design even when it's just apart of the normal cat eye process which is already extra (ridiculous to charge $5 extra to make a heart with magnet as cat eye itself already uses a magnet to make the cat eye effect) -design I got was okay on right hand but messy on other.....so sloppy (didn't notice this til I left) ---I asked if anyone could do the bear design before I went in as I was prepared to go back to my other nail salon the next day -the first time I add for nail hardening polish and they gave me gel builder saying that was their only option unlike my other nail salon read more

I swung by to get my nails done. Noticed they had a housed wine bar inside. I wasn't offered anything though. Lots of interesting choice of "nail talk" topics around me to say the least. So, tell me Im in Oviedo without telling me I'm in Oviedo... My nail tech did a nice job and I made sure to keep telling her that too. But just maybe felt like maybe past patrons have given her a hard time. They give you a ticket to turn in to pay and there's a lil sign sticker on the desk beside her to ask about how much services are before starting. It hit me that I should have so when I went up I asked the clerk and my nail tech came out and asked me why I didn't ask her, kind of defensively. Eek, so I said it was just to know.. and repeated she did a good job. Which was the truth but I think she thought I was going to complain. So there's my experience on that. This is one of the best nail salons in all of Central Florida, in my opinion. They do solid work every time, no mater which nail tech I receive. Everything is always spotlessly clean and they have the largest selection of gels and dips I have ever seen. Seriously, it was kind of overwhelming this time trying to find the perfect shade of pale pink for a job interview because they had so many to choose from. However, that is a good problem to have. I had one nail tech for my pedicure and a different one for my gel manicure. Both were excellent. The lady next to me received a gel manicure with some nail art. Her nails looked so good that I asked to take a photo of them so I could request that design for my next visit. I am a big fan of nail salons that offer an adult beverage with your services. To me, it enhances the relaxation and indulgence in the experience. Velvet Nail Bar has quite a few options for your beverage. I had one glass of champagne with my services and it was delicious. Some nail salons that offer alcohol will offer you the cheapest headache-inducing alcohol they could buy. That is not the case here. The place is big with sleek modern feeling. They have a bar area with non-alcoholic and alcoholic drink choices (included with your visit). They will give you a QR code to check the menu to bring you anything you would like to drink. Service was quick and the nail technician did a good job. They have a variety of options for mani/pedi and other services such as threading, waxing, eyelash extensions and more. Parking at that place is tight. It may take a while to find a spot at the front unless you go to the lot behind which is usually empty. read more

I've been coming to this Nail Salon for a little while now and everytime I'm in the Nail Techs and other employees are nothing but polite and hospitable. I do spend quite a bit of money to get my nails done at this salon but deemed it justified due to how great of a job the Nail techs do. Unfortunately when speaking to a manager you will get cut off mid sentence with no sign of manners or any kind of positive customer service. I understand there's policies but there's also a certain amount of customer service skills you need to have in this industry (I am a hairstylist) when speaking to clients. While the salon is beautiful and modern, and the general staff there are all very kind, I can't leave them a very great review because they really do charge way too much (more expensive than everyone else in Orlando) to be giving such poor work. I didn't rush my nail tech or anything so there really isn't any good reason why I should have left with my nails more thick and chunky than I've ever seen them in my life. It's like he applied several layers of dip powder and then completely skipped the step in the end when most nail techs buff the nail down so it's not thick and awkward looking. I asked for a design and he just went ahead and started it before asking me to check my nails so I could catch the thickness and point it out to him. What stinks is this is the most I've ever spent on my nails and I know they'll only last me a week or two because of how horribly thick they are. read more

I called to get them replaced I was told by the owner Lee or Lynn to come back to get my nails fixed she sat me with the same nail tech who by the way was rude, his name is Kevin he had horrible customer service and a nasty attitude and he only replaced the broke nails after I specifically told them the reason they are breaking is because the acrylic was too thin , on top of that after I was finished I was told I had to pay 10 dollars.. 5 of my nails broke in half the following week this is the velvet nail bar , but velvet nail bar 2 another location I never had any issues please be aware you will be wasting money read more

What a great nail salon seen on tik tok. I decided to drop in to get a price check as I entered the salon I wasn't greeted. There were customers paying as I waited. The lady asked me "how can I help you?" I said "I was just checking the price of a full set". She said $55.00. I then was still speaking as she completed ignored me and helped the lady behind me. That completely threw me off. Customer service is huge for me and especially at an establishment like a nail salon. I won't be giving them my money even if they did great nails. read more

This has been my go to nail salon for the past year but something has recently changed. My last two pedicures have been rushed, no massage, wrong color on my toes and generally just unpleasant. I want to feel relaxed and pampered. My feet aren't soft, my toenails aren't shaped and my feet are sad. It looks like I did it myself. This last pedi I had paraffin wax all over the backs of my heels when I got home. Very disappointing. I once highly recommend this place and I drive 30 minutes to get there. Two of my friends and I went to velvet nail bar for pedicures and gel manicures. When you walk in, it's so much bigger than you would think. The my have at least 10 pedicure chairs and probably 20 nail stations. There is also a long bar and beverages on display. The colors you choose from are painted on nail board displays instead of a wall of polishes. This makes it so you can see what the color looks like much better and they have a huge selection. For pedicures, we chose the pink cosmo. It was so relaxing! The massage chairs were very comfy and Wendy was very attentive. The paraffin left my feet so soft. I loved the hot towels and massage as well. I would definitely come back here for another massage. They offered drinks, though I declined. It seems they have beer, wine, mimosas, and sodas. Next, I had a gel manicure. My gel manicure ended up chipping very shortly after. I called them about it and they had me back in right away. They fixed it for me and it looks fantastic now. First let me say I understand places get busy around the holidays, however that is no excuse to treat customers like they don't matter. I booked an appointment for my mother and I to get our nails done and from the start walking in it was a mess. The hostess at the counter didn't great us nor did she tell us how to sign in. So we stood there for probably 15 watching her check out this line of people (Not sure why there wasn't anyone else at the front). Then they took us back and sat us in two different areas which is fine but they started working on my mom and I wasn't seen for another 35 min (mind you we had appointments) the owner told me they were looking for someone who could do my design. The hostess also never offered us anything to drink even though she offered others around us. The design I picked was a simple pink/white ombré (acrylic full set) with snowflakes on two nails, nothing crazy. So when they found a tech (Tina) to do my nails I showed her the pic and she told me she could do it. I said great, if not I had other designs and just let me know. So she's doing my nail and when she gets to the snowflake part she cannot do it. I'm talking like not even a little bit. Then she goes "I'm picky too" like how rude, I'm not picky I just expect to get what I paid for that she said she could do! She pulls out these cheap stickers and puts them on my nails (not even the correct color). When I went to pay the woman who quoted me $77 for the set took $2 off for not being able to do the design. I'm sorry but to still charge me almost $20 for a design on 4 nails that are just stickers is crazy! Also when checking out I told the manager how I was unhappy that they couldn't do the design and she said "not all nail techs can do designs".... WELL when you book an appointment and ask the manager for a design then wait an additional 35 min to have them find someone to do it I think you would expect to receive that! Also I should point out the person doing my mom's nails has no trouble drawing a snowflake! At this point I'm so uncomfortable I just want leave, then I notice while walking out my one nail is so crooked it looks like my finger is broken. I walk back in to show and see if they can fix and they try to file it straight?! My mom tells them the acrylic nail needs to be redone so they put me with someone new and fix the nail. Its was so uncomfortable though because Tina the original nail artist comes and looks over her shoulder and talks in a different language for a long time while staring at me. I leave after it's done only to see the nail is a different color pink/white ombré then the others (it's like more yellow white) I couldn't go back in because I had an appointment (also since they took close to 3 hours to do my set). My advice, take your money elsewhere. This place is about quantity over quality, and they charge premium prices for cheap looking nails. read more

I was recently able to try their new line Collagen Spa and it left me with a great and smooth feeling on the legs. It's a wonderful product and organic as well. You even get a sample serum lotion to take home. I really enjoyed my treatment. I moved to Oviedo in August and I tried 3 other places before I landed at velvet nail bar. All of their staff is wonderful. I am Evas costumer. She is doing my nails and she gives the best massages/ pedicures and dip (sns) . I enjoy my time at their salon. I came in for a gel French pedicure & it took three employees to be able to make a straight line on my toe... concerning... and I still left unhappy with the way it looks. I spent an hour and 45 minutes on one pedicure. One of the employees came over and explicitly asked me "are you actually as picky as they said?" So yes ladies, they do talk about you in another language lol I also had a glass of wine that was still half full and another worker picked it up by the top of the glass where you drink from with her whole hand to put something down by the girl next to me. I walked in and waited about 10 minutes in the front (with another woman who had been waiting who knows how long) before we were greeted. I asked for a gel manicure with a design, and was told it would be $35 PLUS $5 PER NAIL for a design. It was my birthday so I figured why not treat myself, but boy was I wrong. Velvet Nail bar II ~ just west of the original velvet nail bar they had a grand opening Friday, October 1 of a 2nd store. My neighbor and I decided to go get pedicures and we were thrilled and not knowing it was their first day opening. When you walked in you check in with your cell phone number they are very welcoming wall-to-wall nail colors every color you can imagine & beautiful flowers everywhere. The lighting was amazing! The chandeliers were beautiful when you sat down you were offered any beverage including alcohol and when the technician came out they had a cute little TV tray that also had a little vase with flowers on it and the items needed for your pedicure. Hygienically, they were awesome! They put a liner in the tub, they ALL where wearing mask with 95% of the patrons besides the 20 somethings - they put the water to any temperature you liked and again the colors! The colors, were just amazing and you can do gel, regular & any French pedicure. Anything you can imagine you could do with your toes & nails they are doing it. The massage chairs were very relaxing & easy to maneuver. The staff is awesome and we are really looking forward to going back again. This is definitely a must try & whatever this lady is doing she's running a tight ship, ran so smoothly for their first day and it was a great experience. read more

I usually do not post a negative review on yelp but today I decided that nobody should have the experience I did. It was a very important day to have a manicure/pedicure as I was attending my eldest son's white coat ceremony the following day. Aside from a wonderful pedicure by Loan, who is meticulous by the way, I was referred to Matt for a Manicure. Here is how it started. He seemed like a really nice guy, he sold me a new nail procedure that he assured me was the most natural looking . Never having this done, I agreed . But because of recent skin cancer diagnosis I have opted out of the UV rays that typically go with a manicure. I didn't realize that the procedure would require me to sit under the UV lamp for over 30 seconds and when I asked about doing it another way, Matt became completely unhinged. When I tried to speak to him about my apprehension , to explain, he accused me of BEING TOO NEGATIVE and he said he couldn't continue to do my nails and instead of reassuring me he left me there for someone else to "give me what I want" as he put it. Leaving me there with nails undone as he had his hissy fit I looked around for some assistance, there was none. But Matt wasn't finished scolding me yet, making me feel even worse, he found it necessary to inform me that he stayed late to do my nails which I never asked him to do. In any case, I was left with my nails undone and although there are worse things in life, that next day was probably one of the most important days of my life. Needless to say, I will never return to VELVET Nail Salon having been treated so disrespectfully. There are many many nail artists around some in more demand than others but honestly, no nail artist is worth the money if their approach is Narcissistic self serving prima donna's. This business is a service pleasing one and the last thing you do is behave rudely! Remember , you are the customer! So if you decide to come here and if you chose Matt , be sure to leave your dignity, your questions or concerns home. Velvet has 3 1/2 stars, there is a reason! read more
