Saw a friend check in here on fb so I yelped it to find out more info. I didn't know of any other places to play billiards beside Brian's. So when I found out about it, I wanted to check it out! First thought was yeah... what kinda name is this. The location looked sketchy as well. But once you get inside, that eerie feeling goes away... sorta.... I don't recall if Brian's was cheaper or maybe they're about the same price. I think not a lot of people know about this place because it's super small and located in a place in the middle of nowhere. When we entered, I thought we were the only ones there. But there were about 3 other groups playing in the other room. Compared to Brian's, I feel more at ease here... maybe cause it ain't dark and you can actually see the people around you lol. I admit it can get awkward with the quietness and sometimes you can hear the conversations from the table next to you, but whateverrr. They have benches and chairs which aren't that comfortable...but at least it's clean haha. I also noticed they had some arcade games and vending machines. Velvet's is an alternative to Brian's if you really want to play pool I guess. read more

My friends & I have been coming to velvets for quite some time now. The owner or the cashier person is VERY rude and not friendly. He's expression-less... he snatches your money when you pay, and when you ask him a question he doesn't answer or he replies back poorly.... and also, when you enter you have to walk up a flight of stairs and its pretty smelly but after the stairs it smells fresh again. But don't get me wrong, I still like coming here despite the downsides to this location. On the bright side parking is free. I believe there are 7-9 stalls depending on what time you go. The lighting is bright so thats a plus for me. It also has a strong AC system. I get cold sometimes. My favorite thing is there are seats all around the tables for people to sit down. There's also vending machines filled with snacks and drinks. Not to forget, bathrooms are surprisingly clean so use them if needed. Some nights they have what I like to call "promos" such as ladies play free or college students with ID can get a discount or was it play free?... I don't quite remember which nights and what times though because I never go on those days. read more

Hands down, best pool hall in Honolulu. Hawaiian Brian's has it's redeeming qualities for sure, but this is a pool hall in the purest sense--a pool player's oasis. They have well kept tables and even have a section dedicated to high end tables. I did not expect to find a Diamond table in Hawaii, much less two of them! I think they even have a Diamond bar box in the back room . Really really cheap rates. I have to pay at least $9/HR here in SF . If you're looking to play on top notch equipment or even just for a good time, this is the place to go to! read more

I'm only giving it one extra star because it's super cheap. Been here twice, and that's all I need to NOT come here again. First time I went it wasn't crowded at all. We were able to get a table right away and my friends and I had a really great time. When we were returning the balls, we noticed the sign that said Ladies Night was every Wednesday. We all thought "DEF' comin here again." Second time, I understand it WILL be much more packed especially on Ladies Night. My friends and I go anyway. When I get to the counter and start inquiring the worker about a table, he gives me the worst customer service I've ever experienced! He gave me one word answers the whole time. Me: "Do you think we can get a table?" Bitchy dumbshit: "Nope. All full." **Turns away Me: "Oh.." *Tries to get dumb ass's attention again* "How about those ones over there?" Bitchy dumbshit: "Yeah. It's a few bucks more." **Turns away AGAIN. Me: "Oh! Well that's fine. Can we get those tables?" Bitchy dumbshit: "Ladies aren't free." Me: "Oh.. okay I guess we'll just wait." Bitchy dumbshit: "Yep." **Turns away NOTE: No one is behind us waiting to inquire as well. He could've given us more attention. wow. So I was super pissed off at this point. My friends and I left immediately following this conversation and went to Brian's instead. Yes, it's more expensive, but the atmosphere and customer service is SO much better! That to me plays a huge role in what I think about a place. I guess you gotta pay more to get what you want. :/ But seriously?! Cheap prices. The entire room smells like heavy cigarette smoke and it is nauseating. Smoking is not allowed there...now, but it has years and years and years of smoke absorbed into the walls and carpet. You can smell the smoke from the bottom floor at the base of the stairs. nd it gets stronger and stronger as you walk toward their doors. It's insane. It looked like this place was established like in the late-70's to 80's and hasn't been renovated or updated since. This is a good place if you don't care about ambience or looks (or lung disease), and you just want a place that's cheap. But seriously, we stayed for about an hour and afterward I, for sure thought, that I had some damage to my lungs from all the smoke smell. And my clothes stenched with smoke afterwards. This place is akin to a billiards Dojo in my opinion. And the only public place I know of that has carom tables. House rules are no jump shots, and no hard masse shots. I have not known of anywhere else to explicit this. The regular tables are I think 8 foot oversized? Gandy tables. They were re-clothed when they moved to King St. They are pretty fast - quicker and rails more responsive than Brian's, and not quite as fast as Aiea's new cloth. I would really trust in their setup because those guys play 3 cushion, so they know what's good. The house cues are stiff and skinny; the tips are hard, I think most are 12mm or 11mm even and they will give you lots of action on the cue ball. Due to the vintage of the building, the atmosphere feels like being in the inside of a public school library - with the bright lighting, new grey carpet, AC, and painted white brick walls. The bathrooms have paper towels, and soap. Wow. Don't park in the Glidden parking stalls on the right side during their business hours (I think they close at 4 or 5pm). If it's crowded, don't worry about blocking people, and just double park against the fence side. read more

Great tables at a great rate. They keep the tables up and clean. The regulars there are friendly and even started to introduce me to other people when they found out I'm a new guy to the island. They have a monthly pool tournament on the last Sunday of each month that I'm really looking forward to playing in. They don't serve good but have vending machines there if you need a snack. Let's face it I'm there to shoot pool not eat. Parking is a bit tricky but if you don't mind a little walk you can find some on the street. The other trick to this place is the one little door that leads you upstairs. If you are driving you will pass it and never see it. It's above the paint store that's just off the corner. I passed it 3 or 4 times before I got out and walked to the spot Google maps brought me to. It's worth the find. read more

Relocated to King St. upstairs of a paint store. This location is a lot bigger than the previous but the private lot is limited to stalls but there's always street parking along King St. & McCully St. The has two separate rooms, the main room is usually being used by the ol'timers and regulars there playing on the better professional tables. The 2nd room has about 6-8 pool tables and a few game machines. The most popular would be the fishing game and you can win a lot of money if you're good! :) I would definitely be back because of the reasonable prices and the place isn't overly crowded. read more

Definitely a fan of Velvet's. I've been coming here since high school whenever I want to shoot some pool. This place is open late. When I say late, I mean late. Most days are 3am and weekends are 5:30am! WTF is that?! Daytime rates are about $3/hour per person and goes up to $5/hour per person. Can't complain about that! There's only so many tables at this place, but I've never had a problem getting a table when I go. And I definitely enjoy the benches that are set up around the side of the room. read more

This is our go to spot for playing pool. After getting rude service at another popular pool place i found velvets and we've been coming ever since. Great place for beginners and pros alike. Good rates and they have ladies night on wednesdays starting at 7 where women play free and college night where college students get a discounted rate. Its kind of a "hole in the wall" place but if you're looking for a relaxed and cheap place to play pool this is it. They also hold tournaments if you want some competitive play. read more

Although parking is very ample this place is a really chill spot. I would choose Velvets over Hawaiian Brians most days, depends whether I feel like drinking (which is rarely nowadays) then id be at HB. Decent amount of tables, the few times I came here more than half the pool tables were occupied. That means this place is becoming more of the chill spot nowadays. Other than the parking I'd give this place a 5 star rating, hahaaha. read more

After being rudely talk to at Hawaiian Brian, we came to velvet. I called to see if there was any age limit or if they were busy. The guy that answered was really nice and I felt calm. We showed up, we had to wait for a table. We were waiting kinda long so the guy felt bad and said "here you can play for free untill a table opens up." Honestly best billiards ever! ghetto ass location. this place is located in a warehouse looking place across from where compusa used to be. i wish i could be more specific but hell, i barely could figure it out myself! the parking lot is dark and scary so park your cars close to the place if possible because i always get a feeling i will get mugged or something haha. despite the location, this place is pretty awesome. it is about $2-4 per person per hour. the tables are in good condition and it wasn't crowded for a friday night. i had a great time with my guy friends :) good luck finding this place but it is worth it if you get over the shady surroundings. also, they're opened until 5:30 AM every day or most days, don't remember. read more

Honestly when I think of Hawaii, a pool hall is definitely not the first thing to come to mind. We found this out through one of my wifes classmates after attending the eat the street. This place is alright and the prices is pretty reasonable. The location is definitely old. And you can tell this by the discolored price sheets on the wall that explain the prices from 2005 and the HUGE window a/c units along the back wall. This place has a real musty smokey feel to it when you walk in, So what I am thinking is they used to allow it, and there must have been some real heavy smoking going on. The pool tables are nice and still in relatively good shape. The triangles are pretty loose and the one we had felt like it was going to fall apart. All the house sticks are the same and they do not have the rubber bumper on the end. And you can see people slamming them on the ground when they mess up. I would suggest bringing your own pool stick here. Also, if you break one its $30. Its not that bad and I would probably not come here on a regular basis but it was an ok find and if I am ever in the mood to play pool I will probably come back here. read more

Me and my boyfriend would come here once or twice a week to play pool and those times I've been there was enjoyable.... until we went again tonight. Anyways, theres a little arcade corner where they have this fish game where you put money into the machine and you get money out of it if you score points. There's two machine arcades and noticed one of the machines had a sign that said "Out of Order" so we saw that the next machine looked like it had been previously used because of the drinks on top and the plug was pulled out so we thought that somebody pulled the plug out and so we plugged it back in, put in about 20 dollars and started playing the game. While in the middle of the game, some lady worker (she was tan skinned) came and was like " Why are you playing the game? I plugged it out for a reason. You need to get off and plug it out". So we stopped the game and hit the button that lets you redeem the points you've earned to get money for it and out came this little receipt that had the total points we made. We went to the lady to redeem our money and she wouldn't give us the money. We apologized and tried explaining to her that we thought that somebody that used the machine before took out the plug by accident by probably stepping on it but she still wouldn't give us the money that we pretty much used on that arcade game. It would of been helpful is she put up a sign that said "DO NOT USE" like how the other machine said "OUT OF ORDER" . So we payed for our pool game, and left without the cash we should have gotten. I'm not the type to write bad reviews, and considering this is my first review. But I was really pissed off. Maybe she was in a bad mood? I don't know. But she didn't have to be a bitch about it.
