Shirley Temple, Midori Sour, and Long Island

Stumbled upon this nice dive bar after grabbing dinner with my cousin and his gf! The interior makes you forget for a sec you are in Hawaii and not the SF Marina Bars haha. Lots of tables to cater for large groups and a bunch of dart machines available -- you do have to pay to play. There was no set menu and the bartender was nice to let us know that if we shoot her a name of a drink she can make it for us. I got a Midori Sour and it was perfect! Not super strong and more of a melon flavor. Price was decent at $15. I'd say make sure you know the names of a couple drinks beforehand. They did have a couple of specials with one being an "18 year old Filipino Girl"....Okay.... A bit of a weird crowd though with a couple creepy men, so come in a large group! There were a good amount of people in their 20-30s, but the ambiance wasn't giving after some instances.

This is a local, out of the way little spot. If you didn't know, it was here, you would never find it. It is the epitome of casual and laid back. The staff is friendly, the patrons are for the most part locals. Surprisingly, they have a very wide selection of whiskey and a full bar. They also have an adequate selection of beer, however, not a broad range of options on tap. It is definitely a PBR friendly bar, as they offer all day happy hour on schooners of PBR. No food here, but occasionally you can find a food truck parked outside or you can order in from a couple of small local restaurants.

Quaint, local bar with a laid back atmosphere...no food inside, but there's a food truck right out the door with great ribs and tater tots (among other things). Come early and stay late..

Space is hidden and super cute If i were from here, likely would have a different experience I was a solo traveler and clearly a non local - and really felt like it. Had my over priced draft beer and sticker then left. Never have i paid $3 for a sticker - i collect when i travel. Most the time i get for free after sparking enjoyable conversations with the staff (however, I've never had a problem paying, but $3?.) 3 star because i am sure its a great place otherwise - i wasn't treated poorly, just really ick vibes. Also, the beer wasn't very cold

This was a great find in Honolulu. You can tell this place is where the locals build community. The bartender also had great recommendations for local spots without the tourist price. I really appreciate the welcoming atmosphere and local vibe. We will stop in anytime we are in Honolulu!

Haven't been here in 17 years!

Used to come here a lot when I lived in the neighborhood. Wife and I stopped in while vacationing in Oahu. A lot of fun that night

The nicest bar staff ever. extremely welcoming and you could tell it was genuine. We ordered food from the food truck business outside and came in for a drink and they brought us our food. Perfect night cap while staying in the hostel next door!!!!!

How can I not love a dive bar with a name like that? After all, Suzie Wong was a fictitious Hong Kong bar girl (aka hooker) played by Nancy Kwan in her hotsy-totsy heyday in 1960's "The World of Suzie Wong". I didn't see any 8x10 glossies of her, but there was a huge Elvis tiki idol (photo: https://yelp.to/8CjQCfVCkr) and plenty of sports, beer, and boating paraphernalia strewn all over the walls. Even though our hotel was less than ten minutes away by foot, Jamie W. and I got lost trying to find it because it's in a nondescript alley with a parking lot in front and no signage from the street. Starting with the friendly bearded bouncer, the place had a casual, ramshackle feel that made it feel somewhere between Rosie's Bar on 'M*A*S*H' and the Howells' hut on 'Gilligan's Island'. Thurston and Lovey preferred their martinis dry. With unbridled energy, Patrick was the awesome bartender both times we visited. Oh yes, we went twice because the vibe was so relaxing and the potent Tequila Sunrises were only $5 each (photo: https://yelp.to/YWp9c9sjHZ). Besides, I had to get the T-shirt (photo: https://yelp.to/fCnQ52OvmR). I'm sure if we were grizzled Waikiki beachcombers, we'd be here all the time. Some of the regulars looked epoxied to their stools. That be us. DRINKS - 5 stars...$5 drinks, enough said AMBIANCE - 5 stars...like we were on a movie set circa 1962 SERVICE - 5 stars...Patrick was a champ TOTAL - 5 stars...as Suzie Wong said, "Me a good girl! ME A GOOD GIRL!" RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/3Kz5ksc

Blue Moon Large - Only $7 each!
Suri S.

Your local dive bar hidden in West Waikiki. Mostly locals found here as it is a cheap and fun place to drink. Blue Moon Draft Beer Large is only $7! Cocktails are on the cheaper end too. Service was decent. Hideaway spot - in between apartment buildings so makes it an interesting location. Lots of tables and chairs to chat with others. Bouncer will be outside to ID you. If you're looking for a causal spot to hang out for after work drinks or even pub crawl, this would be a fun spot with friends!

Great signage.

Ask the Community - Suzie Wong's Hideaway

Would a 20 year old be allowed in if only ordering mocktails?

Sorry, no. Must be 21 to enter

Are they open new year's eve and new year's day? I keep trying to call and no answer. Thanks!

Yes. Open all holidays

What time do they stop serving alcohol?

2 am

Is there still a. Pooltable?

No - shuffleboard is there but thanks to covid, I haven't seen anyone play.

Are they reopening after the quarantine? I'm trying to come to taco Tuesday later in the month or in August but can't get ahold of them to see if they're opening up again.

Most bars started opening this week, especially the ones that serve food. They'll most likely reopen in a few weeks. Almost certainly by July 1st. I'll drop by and see if anything is posted on the door.

Is there a happy hour? If so, what are the hours? Thanks!

Yes from 3 to 6 and 8 until closing

When does the kitchen close?

There is no kitchen, but there is some food avilable during sporting events.

This is a great spot to grab a drink if you want something that feels closer to a local dive bar vibe, even though it is right in the heart of Waikiki. You are not really dealing with locals raised on the island, but more people who live in the area or regulars who clearly make this part of their routine. It has that laid back, no frills energy that makes it easy to settle in for a drink or two. The barbacks were clearly busy, but drinks still came out quickly, which I appreciated. Overall, the vibe feels very tiki bar meets dive bar. Strong pours, loud music, and a crowd that is there to hang out rather than be seen. It adds to the fun, especially later at night. Not perfect and definitely crowded, but if you want a lively spot with fast drinks and a casual atmosphere, this is a solid stop. .

After bringing dozens of friends here over the years, we are officially done. If you visit, be careful: * Unsolicited sexual advances. I'm used to being hit on by bartenders but this guy was way out of his territory. He is gross and constantly had to dodge his unwanted advances especially with his girlfriend working there. Seriously?? Ew. Stage Ego: The host (same heavy set guy) prefers hearing himself sing over managing a fair rotation for the paying customers. * Retaliation & Hostility: After I turned down highly inappropriate personal advances from this bartender, he began actively punishing me--ignoring my orders and burying my karaoke requests at the absolute bottom of the list. * Short-Challenged & Ripped Off: on too many occasions I'd hand him a $20 for a $5 drink then never give me change --continues to serve other customers avoiding eye contact or pretending he doesn't hear me ask for my change. Other times he'd claim I never paid him at all. That was the last straw. A bar is only as good as the people running it. We're tired of the hostility, ego, and financial dishonesty. There are plenty of other great karaoke spots nearby that actually respect their customers--go to those instead.
