He fit right in with our group, joking and laughing with us as if he was part of the party. We spent almost the entire hour and a half laughing while learning about and enjoying some fantastic wines. We have previously been Ravines wine club members and frequently enjoy stopping into their tasting room for wine tasting, food and purchasing bottles. We would have happily purchased some wine to take home with us (likely a case or more) but the staff was incredibly unfriendly and unwelcoming. When I asked, for future visits, when the tastings usually stop, I was told 4:30. Ravines may want to update their website and online presence to reflect this (everything posted says 5pm close) as we were disappointed to be unable to finish our Mother's Day celebration at their tasting room. Due to the completely unfriendly welcome (customers were walking past us with fresh pours, clearly having just been served), we opted to leave without purchasing any wine - a significant loss for their business, not only in sales but also in customer loyalty. No one apologized that we couldn't be served or asked if we wanted to purchase any wine. We won't be back any time soon and will share the experience with friends so as to help them avoid a similarly unpleasant experience. We were once loyal but now disappointed Ravines customers.

Moments after arriving he introduced himself by telling us how tremendously educated he is regarding wine. He told us he was an author and an expert on the region and much much more. And no doubt he is and provided a lot of facts and interesting anecdotes. But welcoming he wasn't, quite the opposite. He introduced the tasting experience by telling us that we would be able to taste five wines. I chose most of the ones he recommended but not all of them and commented that I was sure he'd let me taste the 6th if I wanted as every other place certainly does that. Not john, John was insulted that I didn't leverage his brilliance. Not only did I not get a sixth to taste, but the pours I got were half of everybody else's. A wine host should be friendly and accommodating and do everything they can to help you enjoy the experience, and recommend it to others, and come back, and purchase wine. Because of John's pompous attitude he failed on every one of those. We will not be back.

I'm not sure if customers are able to walk the vineyards because it was raining when we got there. We stopped in for wine tastings - $20 for the preset menus and $25 for selecting your own wines. The tasting includes 4 wines and I thought the pours were generous. We also ordered a pepperoni pizza with hot honey to share and it was delicious. The service at the vineyard is a little strange because we sat in the main room upon entry but were told to go pick up our pizza in a different room. Thankfully they weren't very busy and the sweet lady that poured our wine ended up bringing the pizza over to us. They have 3 or 4 different rooms you can sit in. We chose the main room with both low top and high tops, one room had a fireplace to snuggle up next to in cooler months, and then the outdoor seating where they had live music allowed you to feel the breeze and see some views. The wine was good - our favorite of the day being the Cayuga White so we purchased a bottle to share which is a much better deal than buying by the $12 glass. This is a great place to hangout with friends or go on a date. It wasn't too busy on a Saturday afternoon but steady and very enjoyable. We played cards while we sat and drank and it was a wonderful time.
