I would like to note that the dining experience and the horse racing part were FOUR stars. The casino and interior atmosphere, TWO starts. So this is a compromise. Go for a good brunch, it was good, not too salty and everything, including a breaded chicken with a roux (white flour) gravy with a hint of lemon that was delicious. The standards, eggs, sausage, bacon, were cooked well, although the sausage could have had a little darker outer color to make it looked cooked (it was). The racing was fun, and I did a little betting, lost a little, won a little more than I lost and prepared to leave. Going through the casino, it is sad. It's only machines, its a beautiful summer day, and there are mostly elderly, with walkers, scooters, oxygen masks, spending what time and money they have left in the dark looking at a screen. Ironic, isn't it? If our kids did that we would be horrified. I wanted to say "go out and play!" but whatever. So if gambling is not that important, good food and I know they have an entertainment and hotel that I have not experienced, so I think the potential for a meal and entertainment without spending anyone's inheritance. One note, I grew up here and used to come to the track with my mom in particular as a fun and exciting nite out. Those machines were not allowed then so you went for the horse racing. Attended the Kansas concert at Batavia Downs and I was impressed with the high level or organization attained from the time we entered the building, went through security, and walked to our seat. Great job by all those involved. The gaming area was actually very clean and loaded with staff to get you a beverage or to help you find what you are looking for. Great job again. Went to see the Commodores in concert there, I actually won tickets. First disappointment was no one said we needed to bring chairs ( or pay $5 pet chair - that should be on the ticket- money goes to charity so ok with that). The warm up acts sounded great but when the Commodores came on the base needed to be turned down, this went on for the whole concert- it was bad - I don't understand how this happened. We are frequent visitors to Batavia Downs. For many reasons, as I said in my previous review. This last visit was for one of their Friday nite concerts on the racetrack. This one was The Bacon Brothers. Side note, their concerts cost $15, and you get $10 in free play. There's normally a good selection of food trucks/ food stands. Tickets need to be purchased for drinks. You can use them at any other concert if not used the same night. I'm not sure of capacity, but there's everything from picnic tables and chairs you can rent to a VIP seating area or bring your own chair or blanket. They offered us a race night package which was less than $40 a person and included a prime rib and shrimp all you can eat Buffet in the players club, a racing program, a race headline for the group, a picture in the winner's circle for one race with the winning harness horse and its jockey and $25 in free play for the gaming floor. The bar is long and beautiful and very bright and airy in the players club with a great view of the race track and there are many tables at which a group can be seated. The food was good.....not mind blowing, but good, especially considering the very cost effective price. The facility is beautiful. We had an absolutely fabulous time! My husband and I ae not big gamblers but we've been to Batavia Downs several times for their events. We've attended bourbon, tequila and wine tasting events as well as a couple of their summer concerts. They often have room deals available that include tickets to events and free play $ that you can use to gamble with. The sports bar 34 Rush (owned by Thurman Thomas from the Bills and his wife) has reasonable prices and great bar bites and sandwiches. We love the way the bar looks (it glows), and the bartenders are always friendly. Even if you don't gamble, it's a nice place to stop by or attend an event. read more

The snack bar has employees that just don't care. We stood behind a worker ordering his food for almost 10 minutes. Multiple people behind the counter and nobody greeted us and told us they'd be right with us, just continued on with personal conversation the entire time. They do have more than 1 register over by the snack bar area and even though there was 3 of us ordering, no workers from the back could be bothered to help us. The women's bathrooms are awful. About 5 different stalls have broken lots or the door doesn't shut properly. Never been to a casino with that many bathrooms that have problems. read more

I like the horse racing at Batavia Downs. The staff is nice and the action is fun. The restaurant has done away with the menus in favor of a buffet. During the week $25 per person. Its disgusting. We were a six top and the buffet was meatloaf, a mystery meat, mashed potatos, gravy, mac and cheese, rolls and salad. The rolls and salad were ok. No one could tell if the mystery meat was chicken or pork. The mac and cheese was horrendous. Inedible. Two people at our table spit the meatloaf out on first taste. Whoever designed this hotel did not have prior experience. In order to get to the elevator you walk down a long hall, the first floor is the second floor, making it necessary to go up and down a lot. If you have a hard time walking this is not a good place to stay. It is not even possible to pull up to the front door. You must park across the street, including handicap. The room was not cleaned prior to checking in well. We even found medicine and reported all to the front desk. We did receive some "free play" in the casino yet it was disgusting and potentially dangerous. Unprofessional. Other oddities: There is only one elevator and the staff seems to use it for cleaning carts and other items. Guests needed to use it and the staff would not budge. We woke up around 8:30am and there were literally six "maids" waiting to clean rooms in our hallway. We were going to breakfast and they were visibly upset we were not checking out yet. One of them also had a radio blasting hard rock from their cart. Completely all unprofessional. We were there for a benefit .... Buffet dinner. Again odd..... the buffett has two sides yet there is no way to get to one side, in addition deserts were the first item in the buffett. the whole thing is designed backwards. Again, unprofessional. The food.... Bad. That's all our party could say. Breakfast: disgustingly bad. Again all unprofessional. Paper plates, powdered eggs, very few choices, no bacon, and more. Casino: some people would like slots that look and act like slots. Ones that are normal dominations; not something that says one cent yet 40 credits. How about a dollar/quarter slot. Etc. I've never been to the Batavia Downs before,Wasn't sure what to expect... so here's from the start.. Bought tix to see MTB and when I purchased them, I didn't see any opening acts or who they were. It was not clear. Perhaps I wasn't looking in the correct place but it sure was not evident. The parking was plentiful and easy to access. Said doors open at 4pm and they certainly did. Very easy process, there were three lines, everyone moved easily. Plenty of staff to help. Loved the security. Plenty of them! However, the event also said it started at 5pm, it didn't. There was no shaded areas and it was hot hot out. The merchandise vendors, well, their stands were standing but no one to operate them. I'm thinking if the doors open for customers, there should be actual working vendors. The food trucks there, well, they were mehhhhh... so eat before you go. But plenty of alcohol. Too bad I don't drink.... ( maybe I should). Anyways, turned out there wasn't just one opening act, but two. So, for three hours baking in the sun, kinda crappy food, no decent vendors to browse, ( I got bored ) I was ready for the main act. Sun went down, clouds came out, and in the last 45 minutes it rained heavily, but it was still great to see them. All in all, I would go back there, but be more prepared, like calling ahead to see what time the main act starts and show up closer to that time, even if I had to park further away. read more

There was a Yelp event in Batavia, so my husband and I went early so that we could check out the casino first. I honestly wasn't very excited. I hadn't been here in years, and we did not like it here our first time. They have had a lot of renovations, and it's great now! I was still hesitant in the parking lot, but the inside is much nicer than it looks from the outside. They have lots of the bigger themed digital games, and I loved playing the Friends machine. There's another casino nearby with the Friends game, and it just eats my money! This one I actually won on a few times, I was able to sit and play it for more than 2 minutes without putting tons of money in! That's really all that I'm looking for. I don't need to win a ton of money, but I need some little payouts to at least make it fun and let me keep playing for awhile! We actually both left up, which hasn't happened at a casino in a long time. The trip to Batavia is a little further for us, but it's worth it to be able to win something! I came here for dinner at Fortunes and to watch the harness racing and it was a pretty good time! The walk through the casino was pretty short and I didn't notice if they had any tables or just slot machines but overall the place was very clean and every staff member we encountered was beyond friendly! What I dislike it that there are only 9 poker machines, and the rest of the machines are random-spinning slots. It would be nice if they had other video games like video blackjack. There are no tables here either. There are dedicated machines to break large bills, but all the video slots/games take your voucher or cash and save the balance to your players club card. Free gaming credit- you get $15 in free gaming credit when you sign up for the Players Club, and $10 per person for staying in the hotel. They even had a promo going (on Sunday) that if you mentioned them in a tweet, you get $5 gaming credit. There are self-serve pop/Soda and coffee machines on the gaming floor. There's also a bar (34 Rush) that has cheap drink specials (two $5 cocktails and $2.75 Yuengling today). I would never recommend or go back here again. My husband has owned race horses since the 80's. Tonight we go there to watch one of his horses race. The downstairs track is completely shut down for a banquet. The only way in to downstairs outside is thru the casino. We went back and forth thru the same security guard 3 or 4 times. NO ID CHECKS. we get Id'd the forth time thru the same guy. My 27 daughter does not have her ID. So if our horse wins she needs to stand outside at the front door while we can go thru and go to the winners circle. So much for family friendly and fun atmosphere. The security guard was rude and called the sheriffs. Very unpleasant night. There was no reason to close the whole downstairs and outside to race people. They don't give a damn. Never going back. I'm nt a fan of horse racing, but I am a fan of keeping the smoking section fully enclosed. The smell is a bit strong when you walk by, but I didn't reek of smoke when I came home. That's not always the case at casinos that have a separate section for smoking, but don't fully enclose it. The buffet is reasonably priced at $20, but the quality was lacking. The prime rib was cold, as were many other items. The best thing I had was the chicken. The restaurant is tiered and overlooks the racetrack, but there's also flat screen TVs at every table. Drinks are $5 at the bar, and under $5 at the restaurant. They are not stingy with the spirits, either. Service is great. Apart from racing, there's slots, but no card games. read more
