Our class came here to take the state test (written and skills). The male proctor watching over the written portion was unprofessional and rude to not only the students but the R.N staff proctoring the skills portion. I am a retired wild-land firefighter and the way this male proctor carried himself was unacceptable. This man's attitude towards young students, that are scared, and filled with anxiety, should be looked at with anyone allowing him to be performing that portion on any other future state test. I do understand, this proctor is not from the facility, however he is allowed to use this facility to test these poor students. read more

I never knew about this program prior to enrolling. My experience in the medical field was nonexistent prior to this program however, VTI offered ample preparation to embark on a new career. The hybrid online and in person model allowed me to learn at my own pace with much availability to access the instructors. All the ladies were knowledgeable and very helpful and they continuously provided information regarding financial aid opportunities. They even assist with connecting students with potential employers. They offer a state of the art mock clinic to develop our skill set. In my Golden Years, I consider myself an expert in my line of expertise -- process improvement and managing people. But my dream since I was little was to be in the healthcare field. Fast forward after a successful management career I followed my calling -- to become a nurse assistant (NA), and offer assistance to the growing older population who are unable to perform certain activities on their own because of chronic ailment or disability. I researched a few schools around the Ventura/Oxnard area, and decided to enroll at the Ventura Training Institute (VTI). It's curriculum is a blend of theoretical in a class room setting, and hands-on/clinical in a long-term care facility designed to get its students out of the classroom and into the workplace quickly. Class size is small and the instructors have years of experience in the nursing field. The school provided all the tools students like me needed to pass the state licensing examination. A week after my NA graduation, I took the state competency examination and passed both the written and the skills. Right after graduation, Denise Wharton, VTI Director has referred me to a client in Malibu needing a Personal Care Attendant. I went for an interview, the client was pleased with my knowledge in providing excellent care to a recovering stroke patient, and offered me the job. The pay is great, the work environment is positive, and comfortable. In December, I will be back to VTI to continue my training in the Home Health Aid for two weekends. VTI exceeded my expectations, and so pleased for turning into reality my childhood dream of being a part of a team dedicated to healing, and improving lives. read more

It's not surprising to get an emotional response from none professional business and management. You can't even manage your emotions. It was better to investigate what happened instead, but that's expected from you. You can blame hackers this time :) Having fewer reviews doesn't mean it's a fake account. I really don't like to leave a negative review, but the reason was to get you to pay more attention to the work and don't do stupid mistakes, so others won't suffer like I did. I have nothing personal against you and any one in your organization. You sent my information incorrectly to the testing center and / or CDPH. The one who's doing the paper work and entering the data did two mistakes, one with my name and another with my SSN. You have been given correct information including SSN and full name and the information was reviewed by multiple parties before delivering it to you. Because of your unbelievable mistakes, CDPH couldn't find my record, and I was spending on average 45 minutes a day on the phone trying to fix your careless and unprofessional work. Eventually, there was someone answered my call and he was willing to help. He went back to the testing date and reviewed the whole group that tested that day and found my record. I know mistakes happen but not like what you did! It wasn't a mistake it was careless and unprofessional work. Your classroom has three rows of desks. The day of the exam, people sit in pairs on each desk. You ask everyone to leave their phones in the car. The skills test happens next to the classroom using two stations. There's a curvy nurse working there, she was a wonderful and a very nice person. There was a man with a Mexican accent doing the paperwork. Again, please don't be emotional and take this personal. The reason behind this review is to push you to do a better job and don't let other people suffer. For the people they think about taking classes at this place, You don't need more reasons to choose another one. read more

Hello future possible CNA's. I'm so impressed with this school. I relate my experience here like first going to summer camp when a little kid. I did the 6week class by the way. I'm thinking to myself if I'm gonna be sitting in the back of the class the whole time just so that I can get this whole thing over with. After all, I'm there to get certified not be BFF with everyone. That's pretty much what I did all my college years. By the first day I thought this class was going to be interesting because the instructor, Janet, had a certain style that I really liked. She's like Scheherazade (google it) with a 1001 stories to tell. Hearing her stories made me think wow this nursing stuff can actually be fun, humorous, rewarding, deep, sad, happy and every adjective possible. Janet is a treasure chest. Then we were introduced to another teacher, Keisha. We were going to have two teachers, Janet and Keisha on different days. You're going down, new teacher. It turns out that Keisha was amazing. It didn't feel like a one sided conversation where the teacher is speaking to the class. Rather, it felt like a conversation and everyone in the class was involved and learning, and laughing. Seriously, we were all laughing to tears sometimes. It's pretty rare for a teacher like this to come along. Then there are the unsung heroes in administration. I know you'll love Denisse and Vanessa. 6 weeks went by and it felt like fam with everyone there. VTI is the best. I know I wrote a novel here but I Do What I Want. Peace! The experience here was great and I felt very prepared to take the state exam. However, the organization and class materials needs some improvement. We had teaching assistants that would come in on some days and contradict the methods we had learned previously. I think it was honest mistakes but still there seemed to be a divide in communication between the instructors. The time I spent studying at VTI was THE BEST. We got a chance to march at the Ventura County Fair Parade 2014 and won first place! My group was one of the smallest there's been I think, only four people. It was a fun and educational experience with some sad stories that really made you appreciate your health both mentally and physically. I can not speak highly enough of the Ventura Institute of Training for Chemical Dependency. The accelerated one year program (compared to Oxnard college or SBCC -2 year program) offers a great schedule in half the time. As a single mother, this was a very do-able/feasible schedule- it also accommodates any full-time employees looking to be able to further their education in the drugs and alcohol field. The classes are smaller which really allows for a more hands on approach to learning. The core courses have been super relevant and current with what's happening NOW-- not old outdated material etc... I know payment plans are set up which really eliminates a heavy financial burden. But most of all- the owner of the institute is the real gem. She is exceptional in her craft and teaching ability. She hand picks the instructors that meet her criteria--which is top-shelf quality. It's been a privilege attending this school and I look forward to graduating in the next few months. GREAT school. read more
