My coworker (a fellow traveler) recommended this place. The added benefit of this place is you can sign up online and pay for classes individually or in a package. I convinced myself to sign up for AlReal Yoga. Please know I haven't done yoga in over a year and at no point did I look graceful or at all like I know what I'm doing. AlReal Yoga involves the use of a hammock to provide a deeper stretch because you get a little more stability. I thought I'd lost my mind for deciding to make that my first experience trying yoga again. Bless Belinda. She took one look at me and came over to offer reassurance. I appreciated the fact that she helped me figure out what to do during class when I floundered around with the hammock. After sweating like I'd run 3 miles and feeling like and uncoordinated oaf, I promised myself I'd come back the following week. I noticed the next day I was sore in all the right places. I ended signing up for Morning Yoga with Jami and enjoyed that also. She reassured me and I got an excellent stretch from that session. This place is ideal because they have so many options for classes. Not just yoga, but barre/spin/Pilates/fusion classes. It wasn't until my Sister suggested to me that I should try Zumba as a form of Fitness/Cardio, thinking I would actually enjoy making "dance" the solution for getting my Cardio in. She was RIGHT! That 1 hour of nonstop dancing is the most effective cardio exercise I've ever done. My first experience with Zumba was at the gym in which I was doing my weight training. The atmosphere was fine but, definitely a more subdued "gym atmosphere." One day a woman I'd met there told me that I should try Danzar stating it was "more fun." I thought, "More fun?!...than this!?" This I had to see for myself! The following week I went to Danzar and found out she was RIGHT. The atmosphere was much more communal and that of a 1 hour Dance Party. The energy was off the hook and it was clear the folks there had forged a wonderful connection with Danzar and each other. I've been a regular there ever since! When you are gathered together with a large group of people, moving in harmony with one another to an insanely infectious rhythm, you feel you are all part of a tribe. A tribe forged by joy! Simon has the patience of a saint (he is also a 2nd grade teacher) and really puts thought into how to best teach salsa so his students can be most successful. The classes build on each other (they are offered in 6-week courses) and the people are pretty constant, which makes for a nice, friendly atmosphere. In addition, Simon is one great salsero. I didn't realize it at the time, but Simon and Connexions really set the bar high for future dance instructors for me. I still haven't found anything comparable in San Diego, but I'm trying.
