Had a very negative experience with a tech that was hurting my feet and decided to stop the pedicure (it had just started). Instead of apologizing the owner charged me a fee! As a regular customer, this was insulting. I was not seeing my usual tech. Clearly some techs have training and some do not. I have also had the experience where one tech put the polish on so thick it began to peel after 2 days. As several people have commented, the owner/manager (a man) is not very friendly. Be careful when getting a service and make sure that your tech is experienced. If your tech or the owner make you uncomfortable, leave. read more

Bring cash for tip! I was traveling for work, was staying in the nearby Marriott, and in a bit of a pinch to get my nails done before vacation. I was able to call Venus and get an appointment for 45 minutes later which I felt was more than accommodating. The shop is small but adequate; I may have felt a little crowded if it was full but while I was there it was fine. Lora, my technician, did a fantastic job on my nails. She took her time to file, cut, and generally clean up my botched nails. I almost stopped her from putting on any polish because my nails looked great all cleaned up! The polish turned out smooth and clean, not gloopy or bumpy like I've had before at other places. The massage was short but with good pressure. This was one of the better experiences I've had in a while in terms of manicure quality. I didn't have any cash for tip but they allowed me to add on the tip to my total bill (not their preference but it was better than nothing). Next time I'm in DC I'll be back. read more

I went here for a manicure and pedicure and didn't have a good experience. The technician rushed through the pedicure and was in a terrible mood. She kept looking at the clock & barely spent any time on the manicure. She knicked my toe and when I said something it seemed to upset her more. Other technicians seemed to take more time with each customer, so it could have been only her who reacts that way. I visited years ago and don't remember it being this bad. They use hot stone during the massage, and it's $30. - I have had gel manis here, but I prefer to get them elsewhere. - Walk ins are welcome, but I think calling in advance is always a better bet. Venus is my go to place for manicures and pedicures. I don't get any of the gel, acrylic, or waxing services so I can't review how well they do those, but their regular manicures and pedicures are the best I've found in DC for such an affordable price. Regular manicures are $15 and pedicures $25. They do a really good job and my nails don't chip too quickly. The space is small, but there are still plenty of chairs and it's very clean. I usually make an appointment because it can be busy especially during weekly lunch hours or right after work. Even on the weekends it's a safe bet to ensure you have a technician available. FYI: Tips are cash only and they are closed on Sundays. read more

The absolute worst. I'm not sure if everyone here is inexperienced but the lady working on me took 20 minutes to put on acetone swabs to soak the gel off, and then she and I'm guessing the owner took another 20 minutes to file the old gel off. It was horrible and the she started to "trim my cuticles" but was actually just trimming the air. I had to leave mid manicure. I offered to pay for the services I had so far but the manager apologized and said no charge. Really bad--I'm never left mid manicure ever before so that tells you how bad it was! read more

Until today, I've gone to this salon for the past four years for shellac manicures and eyebrow waxes due to their low prices and their convenient location to my office. Until this past summer, they were consistently fantastic, did a great job at both brows and nails and I recommended them to everyone. Since June, however, I have trusted them less and less, and today was the last straw. I've received two very serious burns to the skin around my eyebrows, and a couple of their technicians are careless to the point of causing painful, bleeding cuts when working on cuticles. I actively avoided going to Yuri, as she not only burned my eyebrows in three places this past summer, but also deeply cut into one of my cuticles as well. During my horrible session with her, I asked her repeatedly to cool down the eyebrow wax. She also did not ask about the shape I wanted, or any specifications, but just started waxing with overtly hot wax and left me with visible burns. When she did my nails, she didn't ask about the shape I wanted, and didn't seem to care about painfully nipping my cuticles several times. When I returned to the salon a few months later, I quietly informed the manager on duty, and neither she nor Yuri cared when I said that I was burned during my last appointment. Since then, I made sure to schedule with other technicians. Jane does a very fine job, listens, and is kind. However, I went to another technician today. While she did a fine job with my nails, she clearly didn't understand much of what I said (which I understand, but can be difficult when trying to communicate my needs as a client). Then, when she waxed my eyebrows, she used a solution to remove my eye makeup (after I asked her to not) that smelled very harsh. After removing the hair, she gasped and handed a mirror to me, and I saw the terrible burn marks. The owner of the salon, a man who's name I never learned, kept trying to make excuses and interrupting me. I finally realized that the harsh-smelling solution she used before waxing was a mix of Sea Breeze astringent. They never used that on my skin in the past, and he kept insisting that they had. I know for a fact that they had not. Why they would use such a harsh product on brows, especially prior to waxing, I have no idea, but its unsafe. I am now left with disgusting looking burns AGAIN from them and will now be going elsewhere. Its a shame, as Jane and a couple of the other older workers that I haven't seen in some time were all fantastic, but I no longer feel safe going there. If you do choose to go there, be careful, look at their products, and demand to know what they use on your skin before they burn you as well. read more

Venus was a fantastic venue for a pre-wedding bridalpalooza, as they've got 4 cushy pedicure chairs and enough technicians to cycle us through with relative ease. It's a small space but well set up, and I especially enjoyed the light show that was happening in the water of my foot bath. It's the little things. They've got a great selection of colors, provide a hot stone massage at no extra charge, and my manicure is just now starting to look a bit chippy 6 days later, and I'm reeeeally hard on my nails. A mani/pedi runs $45 which is pretty standard for DC, and I felt like the service performed was certainly slightly above average. It's a good thing I didn't know about this place when I worked only a block away: my lunch hours would have been a lot more expensive. read more

Just came from Venus - great recommendation by the Marriott! Will go again in future. On my trip down from NYC to DC, I TORE one of my nails almost 1/2 way down! I needed a manicure anyway but this was painful and was catching on everything. Zola took great care and recommended a silk patch, told me the $5 price before she started working. She was gentle and did an amazing job - can you guess which has the patch job? I had her cut all my nails very short and went with a neutral color. Wonderful hand massage with lemon and luxurious gel/cream. I requested quick dry as this was in between meetings, she told me they always use quick dry. Total for a regular manicure: $15 + $5 for silk patch = $20 total and I gave her a $5 tip for her excellent work. As a NY'er I am always amazed at how tricky it is to find a good regular nail salon. They seem to just be in fancy spas and charge $55+ which is fine for a treat. When in D.C. I will return to Venus without a doubt! Tip to finding the place, look for the red neon CHAR Burger sign and the Winston House sign, I missed Venus on the first pass by as I never thought to look in an apartment complex entry. read more

I wanted to get a quick mani pedi done during my lunch hour and stumbled upon this Korean-owned salon on yelp. I love Korean salons because they usually add on extra amenities like hot stone massage. I saw that there was a mani/pedi combo deal for $40 on wednesdays. I thought SCOREEE, but when I called to make an appointment, the manager wouldn't really tell me what the price of both was. All he said was "5 dollars off both" when I asked for the total, he said $60, I assumed the prices just rose over the years and asked for a pedicure. The salon is a no frills sort of place. I got seated quickly and had the option to add jasmine powder to my lukewarm foot bath. My technician added hot water later and did a pretty good job on my toes. I gave her a good tip for her work. What annoyed me was that I overheard another lady pay for her nails and she had a gel mani + pedicure combo and her technician said it was $40. I don't appreciate getting the wool pulled over my eyes so I won't be returning here. read more

This has become my go to nail place since my last review. They're always friendly and my nails always look great. My gel manicures usually last at least 2 1/2 weeks, sometimes I can even get 3 out of them. As I mentioned in my first review, the pedicures are a little rushed but overall still good. My biggest complaint is that I can't put tip on a card. It would be much easier if I could since I usually stop at the ATM solely to get cash for my nails. The best thing to do if you are planning to have gel paint on your nails is either walk past here and head to cvs and buy some to do it yourself, or pay less head to another nail parlor or slightly more to another kind of nail parlor. This place is incredible. I have gone twice and had really amazing experiences. I called and they easily gave me an appointment for when I wanted to go. I am sure all of the people who work there are great, but I got Leah and she is incredible. She is very good at every single part of the mani/pedi experience. From the massage to shaping nails to everything she is really good at her job. When i had a pedicure I really enjoyed the massage with the scent and the hot stone massage. This is one thing that makes the customer service exceptional though. This morning I was convinced that I had an appointment at 9am before they opened. Although it was my mistake, Leah offered to take me right away. She was super professional even though she had just walked through the door. I really appreciate that wonderful level of customer service. Overall this is easy, convenient and a great manicure. I'm so happy that this is close by and would recommend it. read more

Went here yesterday because my nails were disgusting. I got a gel manicure and a regular pedicure. The salon is a little small but it's clean. They have a lot of options for polish but not as many for gel. Moon did my pedicure and she was very quick but also very thorough. They do a hot stone massage which was nice, and their basic services are more elaborate than other salon's I've been to. Lea did my manicure and my nails look great. She did a design with two strips of rose gold tape on my thumb too. I had to leave at a specific time and both technicians did a great job of making sure I was out in time. At $70 for both, plus a tip, this salon is definitely on the more expensive side, and that included the $5 off for Wednesdays. They also don't accept tips on credit cards, so make sure to bring cash. I didn't like that they charge $5 for gel removal. When I need something done and I'm by my office, I'll probably come back here, but my other salon near my apartment will remain #1. read more
