When Covid came around, Ms West would not honor our karmic agreement for work and class exchange, citing that you can't just save up classes and that one should work at YU to improve their body. As an overweight woman, she was clearly body shaming me. Luckily, I won a dept of labor case against Ms West for the amount of about $1300 (which equated to how many classes I had store through work exchange) within the past few years. It does not compensate for the type of abuse Ms West extends to the world. It is upsetting that someone like this is within the yoga community but this is how the world works. She taught me so much. Thank you Ms West. You're probably reading this. You think you know who you can abuse; you should have paid more attention. Don't get me wrong, she'll still get your butt looking good in a pair of tight jeans, but she'll do it by helping you find more complexity and dynamic movement in your nervous system. By teaching you how to walk, sit, stand, run, and breathe differently. By teaching you how to bring your workout into every step down the street. I recently sustained a hairline fracture in my foot falling from a ladder, and I was apprehensive about getting back to training right away. Renee was able to not only correct my walking pattern to allow me to walk pain free weeks sooner than anticipated, but she was also able to help me deduce that my old walking pattern may have led to that part of my foot being predisposed to breaking in the first place. This is not rote exercise, it is an education on your body and how to relate it to your environment in a more healthy, dynamic, and efficient way. Knowledge is power. After being pretty tired from 40 miles on the road, Liz's knowledge of the body and her kind demeanor made the experience beyond relaxing. After the bike tour, I made sure to get Liz' business card because I wanted to schedule a follow up appointment with her. Out of all the massages I've tried in the city, Liz is leaps and bounds above in her skill level. She's very caring and I can sense her genuine passion for the craft. I just returned from a 45 minute bodywork appointment with Liz and I feel extremely relaxed. My hips, which were brutally tight from sitting all day at the office, feel very loose and nimble! I have taken a few Pilates classes before and for some reason, I have never really found it to be my group exercise of choice. And here is the reason. I think Pilates focuses way too much on just the core. And while we had a really good instructor, she was clear and gave good instruction, I found myself bored by the end of 30 minutes. There is only so many different ways to do abdominal crunches. I would be willing to come by the actual studio and take a class, but I think I will pass on the Pilates and go for the yoga classes instead. What I will say is this. The next morning, my abs definitely knew it had worked out the previous day, so that was a good feeling. I only wished that the rest of my body hurt so good like my abs...

That being said, I congratulate Rachel for getting ahead of the shutdown and doing her virtual classes. Instead of me having to suffer a commute, I can do the same regimen in the comfort of my home, and nothing's going to beat that. Moreover, she's been a professional in this field even before yoga because commonplace again, so I have to respect the depth of knowledge she has acquired over such a long time and her personality compliments her expertise.

In fact, one of the most basic poses in yoga practice, the downward facing dog always gives me a slight headache when the blood rushing into my head. All these have changed since I met Rachel. Yoga classes with her are so pleasant and relaxing. On top of tailoring the flow to workaround my body limitations, she gives very clear instructions to guide me transitioning into and out of each pose. She always manages the pace just right, I never feel I over/underworked my body after each session. She also makes me realized that yoga is a wonderful way to build body strength instead of just simply stretching. She's such a fabulous yoga teacher, I'm very lucky that I found her.
