I'm writing a review because this place is a gem. Not because I want it to be overrun by people who just discovered it. The parking lot may seem small but it has only been so full once that I had to wait for a space to open up. This is the local place where you can get a bunch of your necessities. I don't think it is the place where I could ever get everything I need for my shopping list. But it does have some produce, meat, frozen food and ice cream. They have a small curated selection of alcohol too. Because it's so small just about everything is either a heavily used item or it is a careful curation of choices that they are offering. The store has always been clean and organized when I'm there. Which is amazing because I don't see people roaming around doing this task. I don't think I have ever heard customers verbally confront each other in the store (doesn't mean it doesn't happen, I just have not witnessed it). It just seems to be a little more laidback than the corporate grocery stores. As a local business, I try to shop there and support them. They are a vital part of our community. We have a lot of people who want to walk or bike to get their groceries and they can here. Prices are reasonable. They could be obscene because of their size and location but they are not interested in going that route. That speaks volumes to the store owners and management. I'm a member of a local civic organization and we regularly ask them for their help with prizes for our fundraising etc. They really do an amazing job and give back to the community. I cannot imagine a reason why I wouldn't want to shop there other than I can't get everything there. The benefits outweigh that though. An added bonus is that you will be paying an actual clerk that will greet you and be nice throughout the process!! read more

This store has been a mainstay in AMESBURY for many years They are known for their meat department. The prices are somewhat higher than most chain grocery stores which reflect their convenient location to their patrons, many of who are elderly and walk to shop. read more

Amesbury has one grocery store and it is not the one think it is!!! Vermette's is THE grocery store for the town. Locally owned, independent grocers are rarities. This place does an amazing business and always has got people running in to grab something. It is because they are good and the service is even better. For their size, they do an incredible job on the variety of products and quality. I can go there and get most everything I need to eat. Cleaning supplies are available but are minimal. Products, whether it is meat or produce, are always fresh. They have a quick turnover on stock. If I shopped at the only big, chain grocery store in town, I can easily find 6 items that are sitting on the shelf for sale past their expiration date (no joke). I know that what I get at Vermette's is fresh. Sure you won't likely find a dragonfruit to buy but you can get the stuff you need for your cookouts and salad fixings. Ice cream selection is decent. For their size, they have a good variety of frozen items. As a bonus, they tend to carry smaller size canned goods. I'm not committed to eating a huge can of peas and I like that. You can get frozen foods, cookout basics and even some nice alcoholic beverages there. If you are looking for something in particular, just ask. They've been good about ordering items if it is reasonable and doable. Beyond their great service, they are a valuable part of our community. Their location allows for a lot of people to walk in and do their shopping. We all know that buying local is important... but this place is a true gem that is worthy of your money. Parking is plentiful in the lot behind and alongside the store. They don't break down their boxes and have a pile in the front of the store for people to take/reuse. Although I haven't been to their West Newbury store it is managed by the same guy. I would expect that location to be on par with this one. read more

Vermette's for all your shopping needs. Would I do my weekly shopping at Vermette's over Stop and Shop? No. Would I use Vermette's to pick stuff up throughout the week, grab a 6-pack or a bag of chips while on the run? Absolutely. Their deli/butcher shop is pretty good and has great prices. pass. read more

Come here usually when I need something quick when I am out. Very close to my house so it is very convenient, prices are a lot cheaper than most grocery stores such as market basket,stop and shop or grocery stores. They carry basically everything you are looking for. read more

Vermette's is a great lil' grocery store! A paired down and slightly townie version of a conventional grocery store, but featuring a very nice beer and wine selection - something you just won't elsewhere round these parts. I hear they have excellent meat. This is a better option for grabbing a few things on the way home than Stop n' Shop, Amesbury's 'other' grocery store. read more

Conveniently located as well as fitted with plenty of parking. I shop here at least weekly. I am always in and out in a jiffy no matter how busy. The staff is always attentive and courteous. They are Well stocked with a variety of staples. Definitely my favorite grocery store. They also have a great butcher so you can order special cuts. Awesome little grocery store in the downtown area of Amesbury. They have all the essentials that most larger grocery stores have but be prepared to pay a little bit more. The produce is always fresh here! I love their meat selection...especially the bacon burgers! They also have excellent beer and wine offered here. I want to say how AMAZING the customer service was that I received tonight at Vermettes. My 7 year old Boxer is dying of lymphoma. On my way home from work (8:30 pm), i stopped at Vermettes to see if perhaps the butcher was still there. When i asked, i was told the butcher left at 8 pm, but that the 3 employees there would do the best they could at whatever i needed. I explained to them that my dog was dying of cancer and that I wanted to do something special for him tonight. I told them I was looking for a bone or some kind of scraps, something that I could bring home and give to him that would be special for his meal tonight. The 3 of them jumped into action immediately and wound up coming out of the freezer with 2 bones for me. You have no idea how much this meant to me. When I got home, I gave my dog and his brother the bones and it made their night. They worked those bones over for a solid hour with their tails wagging the whole time. Thank you Vermettes, and especially the 3 people working tonight (2 women and a young blonde guy) for awesome customer service and for making the night for my sick pup. read more

After shopping here for years I stopped by in preparation for a recent snow storm. I wanted a jug of milk and some chicken. I had a checkbook in my car but forgot my wallet at home. I the check out I was told I had to see "the boss" who told me "sorry cant do it" I said "Really? I've been in here several times a week for over 30 years? "Sorry, it's policy..." I have policy's too. I like to support local business and other downtown folks did take my check that day. Part of my policy is that if I support someone year in and year out for 30 yr. and they don't lift f finger to help me in a time of need I'm done with them. From now on I'll just stop at that big store by the highway on my way home - same prices, better selection and when they treat me like a number, I won't be surprised at all. read more

Love vermettes. Super convenient and carry just about everything. Awesome deli. Love there potatoe salad. Prices are reasonable. They are starting to carry more organics . As a mom This makes me happy. read more

I just love this little grocery store. The meats in particular are fabulous. It is small by the big box standards but I almost always find what I want. It also sells beer, wine and alcohol so what's not to love! read more
