It was thin enough that it didn't take away from the melt-in-your-mouth quality of the fish. There was a smokiness in this that we couldn't figure out but it worked so fricken well Octopus: golly gee was this some good octopus. The most tender bite I think I've had in my life. It was breaded and fried but not in a heavy way at all. My first bite was almost Buffalo chicken-y? The peanut sauce also paired really well Scallop: oh my god. My favorite dish of the night. The scallops FELL apart with the lightest touch of a fork. They simply ~melted~. There was a fresh sea flavor to them as well. Paired super well with the meaty, slightly charred mushrooms Cabbage: left much to be desired. The pine nuts were super nutty and the brown butter was nice. But it was hard to eat the pine nut and the cabbage in one bite so they weren't really paired together. Cabbage was nicely charred but besides that it was a soft wedge of cabbage Cod: the curry was very ginger forward which I appreciated. Strong curry flavor but nothing too spectacular there. Once again though, the protein was cooked to perfection. Super flaky and melty pieces. I wish there were a few more pieces of bok choy and that the mushrooms were the ones in the octopus (this one was shiitake and larger softer pieces. I wanted some more chew I guess) Chocolate sorbet and cookies: never in my life did I imagine that a sorbet could taste like that. It was the richest dark chocolate flavor without a hint of sugar aftertaste. Phenomenal and super creamy too. The cookies look like they have a lot of salt, but it's really just the right amount. Truly a very average experience at Vernick Fish as compared to Vernick Food & Drink. I will say, our special occasion was acknowledged and I appreciated that. Not many places take the time to do this nowadays. However, service got weird after I felt judged for ordering fish sticks. Let me preface by saying we ordered cocktails, tuna on sourdough, lobster cavatelli (all of which were delicious). I walked by two tables who were eating fishsticks. At this point, I am drinking, and the fish sticks were looking enticing. When I inquired about them the server acted taken aback. After this interaction I did feel judged because it was on the "kids menu" and I was told they are "nothing special" Well they hit the spot after having a cocktail. Following the apps, I ordered jerk cod for dinner. This was a very disappointing dish. While the fish flaky and tender, the dish lacked any type of depth. It needed salt and acid at a minimum. I would not come back. And I don't recommend this place. The hosts were absolute snobs and when you're paying NYC prices in Philadelphia, it better be for both food AND service. They said we have to sit at the bar without a reservation in advance but does not show us to the bar area? A decent host should help the guests that they allowed in to the seating area or at least help the guests navigate the seating. Instead we were just left to wander in the bar area without knowing what to do. Clearly the serve staff also expected the hosts to do better as well. When you're paying $23 for a cocktail in Philadelphia, you deserve to be shown to your seats by the hosts, am I crazy? The food is good but not life changing. Went to Vernick Fish for a work lunch, heard a lot about it and its sister restaurant. It's... fine! Service was good, no complaints, our server was polite, friendly, and attentive. The vibe of the place also nice, I liked the sophisticated look and feel of the place. But after all the pomp and fanfare I'd heard, I expected more of a wow factor with the food? Seafood heavy restaurants I get excited about because it means I have more options, since I keep halal, but the fan-favorite jerk branzino was quite frankly a bit underwhelming. For me, it was nothing special, but the pickled whatever underneath was quite good. I liked my sardines on toast though, and the hazelnut mousse situation I ordered for dessert was good too. It was a perfectly decent meal, don't get me wrong! But the price point and reputation maybe set me up for higher expectations. read more

My husband and I had dinner at Vernick Fish a few weeks ago when we were in Philly for a day. We were a little bit early for our reservation so were sat at the bar for a drink (I had a glass of wine, while my husband had a gorgeous cocktail). We were seated on time and at a beautiful table - the restaurant has a lot of glass and the reflections on them in winter created a great ambiance - very elegant. The service was great throughout - and that's why it's a solid four star review from me. I didn't find the food all that memorable, but the service really put it over the top. Every member the staff who interacted with us was incredibly friendly and helpful and welcoming. Perfect service. We shared several dishes: some oysters from the raw bar menu; the King Salmon tartare (spicy mayo and shiso, served with potato chips); crispy octopus (with mojo verde, shishito peppers, scallion); sea scallops a la plancha (with muhammara, roasted oyster mushroom, sumac); broccolini (with white bean, giardiniera, sourdough crouton - a side dish); and warm apple cake (with granny smith apples, cinnamon, honey oat crumb). I enjoyed most of the dishes quite a bit (the side of broccolini was the only one we regretted ordering). The cook on the scallops - perfect. But the dishes that stood out to me the most were the octopus (that mojo verde!!!!), the tartare, and the cake! I would be remiss not to mention that they brought us bread and butter to start the meal. I normally avoid bread service - not because I don't eat gluten, but because I tend to want to avoid filling up on something I almost always find unremarkable in favor of saving room for what I ordered. But this sourdough and flavored butter? I was scraping the plate for every last bit of that butter. It was a treat. Vernick Fish is beautiful, the service is incredible. For a seafood restaurant, the cook on the seafood has to really hit the mark - and at Vernick, it does. They're getting it right. Fresh King Salmon? Leave it alone. The warm lighting, holiday decorations, and strategically placed plants made the restaurant feel inviting and we received a warm greeting upon arrival and were seated promptly. Both our alcohol free and regular cocktails were tasty and bar looked to be fully stocked to accommodate any taste. While the seafood was cooked perfectly, each of our dishes would have been better with some restraint in the amount of salt used. Our server was okay- not sure what other word to use. Was visiting Philly for a few days and my bf made a reservation for this restaurant after seeing great reviews about it. We were early but they were able to seat us right away. The ambiance was really nice and fancy, they had a ton of open space so plenty of seating. The kitchen is an open kitchen against the wall so you can see the chefs at work. The waiters were attentive and friendly. Started off with assorted oysters from their daily oyster selection. Got 3pcs of four kinds of oysters and they were all so fresh. I can prob sit there and eat oysters all night, but I had to save my stomach for the rest of the food. Next was the crispy octopus and it was perfectly cooked, I would order that again. For large plates, we got swordfish milanese which was dense and tasted almost like chicken to me, and the roasted cod which was good, but wasn't as flaky and tender and I would have liked. The fish didn't wow me unfortunately. For the price point, I expected better. Lastly for dessert, we ordered a scoop of the banana ice cream and the chocolate one. They were both delicious. It was our anniversary so the waiter also came with a complimentary white dessert, but she accidentally thought it was someone's bday instead so there was a "Happy Birthday" chocolate sign with a candle in the dessert. I asked for one of the mocktails to be cockified and it was so delightful. We tasted some things from the raw bar and I would go back and sit at the bar for crudo snacks and cocktails anytime. This is a great spot for date night and has a "see and be seen" kind of vibe but not in a pretentious way. Nice location in the Four Seasons. Very limited menu. We ordered the Sea Bass, Cod, and Swordfish. The swordfish was a surprise in a bad way. It was served Milanese (pounded, breaded, and fried usually done with chicken or veal) which we had never seen with swordfish which is usually presented in steak form. It was bad enough that it was attempted that way but worse was that it was over cooked and more breading than swordfish. They were replaced with the Sea Bass which was great. My meal at Vernick Fish was a modern and memorable Italian seafood adventure. Each of the crudo dishes seemed popular, and I went with the amberjack crudo, which was topped with tarragon, pear, and browned butter. Each bite was delicate and rich, with the herbed butter lovingly complementing the savory-sweet amberjack meat. I highly recommend trying any of their crudo dishes to start your appetite. For my entree, I was amazed by the ricotta-filled cavatelli! The creamy melted leeks were a surprise standout and went perfectly with the sweet scallops. I enjoyed the Chai Town cocktail for dessert, a comforting twist on an espresso martini with a splash of chai masala. It's topped with the restaurant's logo, which made for a fun icebreaker with the diners around me. It's a delicious, photogenic dessert drink! My wife and I had dinner at Vernick Fish the other night, and it was fantastic from start to finish. We began with cocktails upstairs at SkyHigh, then headed downstairs for dinner. The transition was seamless and set the tone for a great evening. We arrived a few minutes early and waited at the bar until our table was ready. We'd been here once before in 2021 for an early summer evening dinner outside. That meal was delicious, but dining indoors this time felt far more distinct and intimate. The room really elevates the experience. The dining room is gorgeous, with an open kitchen and a spacious, modern layout. It's a fairly large restaurant that reminds me of places you'd find in Chicago, where restaurants can feel open and contemporary in a way that's harder to achieve in New York. The space still feels fresh and polished. Our server was awesome, kind, professional, knowledgeable, and refreshingly honest. We shared the Yellowfin tuna crudo, the endive & baby gem salad with excellent vegetables and a perfectly applied dressing, the chilled shrimp salad with spaghetti squash in a bright lime dressing, and the roasted 14 oz prime ribeye. Everything was excellent and very fresh, with the shrimp salad standing out as especially unique. The steak was ordered medium-rare, which here means very rare. It wasn't wrong; we didn't send it back, and we devoured the entire thing. With hindsight, I would have ordered it medium. The potato that came with the steak was delicious, and we appreciated the server noting we didn't need to order extra sides. We didn't drink alcohol, just a few Diet Cokes in classic glass bottles. The total came to about $230, including tip, which felt appropriate for the quality, service, and setting. The crowd was lively and diverse, with a mix of couples and larger groups. This is an excellent choice for a business dinner or a more intimate night out. On a previous visit, I had the Swordfish Milanese, which is also delicious and may be nearing the end of its run on the menu. We enjoy The Vernick, but this style of meal is more our preference. Vernick Fish feels perfectly on brand with the attached Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia. Separately, we're looking forward to visiting the Vernick Coffee Bar, which we've heard great things about, and appreciate that it's also part of the broader Comcast Center complex. I sadly dropped my phone in the restroom & it broke which prevented me from taking pictures of my meals . The food presentation was amazing! The taste of my sea bass, oysters, spaghetti squash, sardines (not in this order was outstanding! Oh and the sourdough bread with lemon cinnamon butter is yummy! Honestly my only real complaint is I wasn't a fan of the starter bread-- I feel like a restaurant of this caliber really shouldn't be serving cold bread and I don't think the lemon butter (mixed in with what I think was seaweed?) worked well. What WAS nice was the complimentary salmon crudo they started us off with. Otherwise food was really good, atmosphere very classy, and service was great. Our favorite dish of the night was definitely the yellowfin tartare (fish was so fresh and seasoned perfectly, went amazingly with the toasted bread and black garlic sauce). The broiled oysters were delicious and indulgent; octopus was very tender and a pretty creative dish (slightly too salty-- think some more sweetness would've balanced it out). I had the Grilled Branzino for lunch. While it's called a large plate, it's a refreshing dish with 4oz of fish. The atmosphere is what you'd expect of a Four Seasons restaurant - classy and elegant. I was not however impressed with services. My ice tea was empty before the food arrived and none of the servers ( there were manage of them helping) looked or asked. I recently went here for a weekend dinner with three friends and had a great experience. We were seated immediately at our reservation time and received great service throughout the evening. Our server also was great answering our questions and catering to some dietary needs. We shared all the dishes (highly recommend), and allowed us to maximize our dinner. We started with the oyster specials of the day, all of which were fresh and a couple of which were particularly outstanding. Vernick Fish also gave us complimentary bread and butter, which was appreciated (and very good) as I was very hungry while waiting for our food. We also shared a couple bottles of white wine, which paired perfectly with our meal. We shared the king salmon tartare, grilled swordfish, scallops, sea bass, and the eggplant katsu. The broiled oysters was a miss for me, was totally not what I was expecting. The crispy sea bream was a huge portion but wasn't overly much of a hit. The hamachi we also didn't super care for, it was a bit on the boring side. The vibe itself is fine/cool. It does suggest hotel restaurant and doesn't have overly the most personality. Vernick fish is the epitome of an approachable high end restaurant. Everyone is very friendly and the space is sleek and welcoming. Not a single piece of the experience feels too over the top, while at no point do you feel shorted on service, food, drink, or anything else. You can feel comfortable while eating truly stellar food, and be treated well without pretention. Every dish is fantastic as well - the crudos are all flavorful and interesting. The salmon one is my fave. We had a crab and lobster rice dish that was to die for, not over rated which i was afraid it would, but truly one of the tastiest most decadent dishes ever. Nothing at all was bad, not one item. The cocktails are also great - hard to choose to drink wine with this cocktail list - they'll even whip up something special for you - but really try to the stuff on the menu - I loved it all. Vernick has all the bells and whistles. It's got fine dining qualities with a smart casual sophisticated feel. It's chic and vibey, perfect for a date night. The space is airy and not cluttered with tasteful decor through out. Servers are attentive and polite as you'd expect. Modern takes on classic dishes leave you pleasantly surprised with an eye brow lift of approval. Tapas style small plates were visually appealing and easy on the palate. Though some things I would've liked a bit more punch in flavor, everything was relatively good, but not great. Each plate had me wishing for something more, whether it be salt, acid, fat, or spice to make them from good to great, but they just felt a little flat . Maybe I'm being a little too critical, but for the price point, I kind of expect to be wow'ed with everything. Not saying I didn't enjoy my experience here, it was still a good time, but was so close to being great, that's all. Overall, still a solid place if price wasn't a factor. The ambiance alone will set you up for a successful night out with good company. Incredibly friendly service in a sleek, comfortable setting. All the dishes were presented beautifully and very tasty. We especially enjoyed the raw shrimp which were served garnished with shaved horseradish and lemon. I would also add that the sides looked great. This is one of the best restaurants in America! Completely unexpected find! The food is simple and complex all at the same time. Incredible depth of flavors. My bride had the blackened shrimp and it was fabulous. I had the jerk cod and there are no words to describe how good it was (particularly the broth!). My first stop on the tour of Vernick restaurants was a success. After high recommendations to try this restaurant group I popped in on my last work trip and wasn't disappointed. I sat at the bar and got excellent recommendations on both food and wine choices. The gin cocktail I tried was a perfect refresher on a scorching summer day, and the wine paired perfectly with the dishes. I started with the snapper ceviche- another refreshing dish that had just the right balance of acidity to the coconut milk. I followed this with the squid ink cavatelli. I loved the sauce and lobster pieces. The cavatelli was good but I was so full I steered more towards the chunks of Maine Lobster goodness. I was visiting from Florida and went to celebrate my birthday this past weekend and honestly, wasn't impressed specifically with the food and the service. The restaurant is located on the first floor of the Four Seasons Hotel. A+ for aesthetics! Beautifully decorated. I love the cute minion entertainment book they gave my toddler for the table. I was excited. We ordered the fluke ceviche, the crispy potatoes, swordfish katsu, the sea scallops a la plancha, and the grilled Black Sea bass. The only thing that was delicious was the katsu. Everything else you can just skip. The potatoes were extremely salty, couldn't even eat more than 2 bites. The kids meal was better than the adult entrees. Plus the food is way overpriced. I have paid prices like this many times and it was worth it. This was disappointing. No one asked about the meal either. Even Applebee's asks about your meal when you dine there. Came for a birthday meal and had a pleasant time! Sat at the chefs counter so could watch the magic happen. I've heard the crudo here is where it's at so got the salmon crudo and sea bream. The salmon was yummy with Asian flavors but the the sea bream really stole the show with the brown butter sauce. The crispy octopus was also okay, didn't love that it was fried, I love a good grilled octopus that melts like better. And this could have been that but the flavors were yummy. Then we got a crab pasta, branzino and scallops. All 3 were fantastic but the branzino was most memorable for me. It had great Thai/vietnamese flavors with the coconut broth, mushroom and the beans sprouts except I hate raw bean sprouts. Needs more of the broth to cook it slightly. I also wish it was served with some sort of rice to soak up all of that yummy rice. All in all, good service and good food! read more

Came here for our 5 year anniversary! Some of the best quality seafood in the city! Our server was extremely knowledgeable and passionate of the menu. The clear view and visibility of the kitchen made me want to pursue a career as a sous chef. Vernick Fish is located on the ground floor of the Four Seasons. We asked for a random selection of oysters - which were divine. I would come back just to eat the crudos. Yellowtail Crudo (foie gras, concord grape, chervil) - the presentation on this was immaculate. Sea Bream Crudo (crème fraîche, ossetra caviar, chive) - I could drink a bottle of the crème fraîche. Crab spaghetti consisted of blue grab, wilted pea leaves and nori breadcrumb. This is a safe dish for someone who isn't into seafood that much. I think another vegetable or herb could have freshened this dish more. Broiled oysters had broccoli rabe, roasted garlic and provolone. SKIP! The provolone is so overwhelming, I could not taste or feel the oysters. The dish is super oily and takes away from the oysters. Dropping a star because the complimentary sourdough was hard around the crusts and could have been warmed up slightly. Secondly, the entrees were not exceptional and left us wanting more. Grilled Black Sea Bass consisted of dashi, charred eggplant, enoki mushroom, bok choy. The charred eggplant was the highlight of the dish. Olive Oil Poached Halibut consisted of tomato broth, goldbar squash, jimmy nardello peppers. The nardello peppers were the highlight of the dish. The halibut piece itself was pretty big and perfectly cooked, not chewy or anything. Dessert...sign me up. The coconut tres leches and fig, pistachio cheesecake are definitely worth sticking around for! read more
