This is Woodland nail salon #6 or #7 in my quest to find someone with a high attention to detail and reasonable pricing and I'll be back. It's a small, no frills salon with friendly technicians. The pedicure area is dimly lit, making it very relaxing. Tip #1 - don't choose your polish there; do it before you go back. The lighting is very good up front, but in the pedi chairs, it's more warm and relaxed, making it more difficult to choose a color accurately. They have a huge gel polish collection to choose from. Tip #2 - take cash or use the Travis Credit Union ATM right outside. They use disposable liners for the tubs and they clean them right away. They use clean towels on the foot rest area and the chairs themselves are simple to operate. I really love how dim it is, much more relaxing than most other places which are bright and loud. The mani area is also comfy, just more brightly lit. Everything was clean and my technician didn't ruin my relaxation by talking my ear off. I know some people enjoy the conversations, but that type of interaction is often draining for me and I'd prefer to relax quietly. I didn't get his name, but the man who did both my mani and pedi (not the owner) had a great attention to detail. He was constantly checking his work and fixing tiny imperfections. I appreciate this tremendously. I had the basic spa pedi, which is $25, with gel polish, adding $10. My gel mani was $20, so the total was $55. Much more budget-friendly than the previous two salons I've gone to in the last couple of months. As I said, I'll definitely be back. I'm very pleased. read more

I had been coming to this salon for quite some time and usually had good experiences, which is why I continued returning despite seeing several negative reviews. Unfortunately, my last two visits completely changed my opinion. During the first visit, the nail technician repeatedly cut the skin around my fingernails and toenails, causing me to bleed several times. He did apologize, but I was surprised that no discount or adjustment was offered after I was injured during both my manicure and pedicure. I did not complain at the time because I did not want to be confrontational, and since it was my first bad experience there, I decided to give the salon another chance. During my next visit, everything seemed to go smoothly. However, about a week later, I began experiencing severe pain in my big toe and realized I had developed an ingrown toenail. Soon afterward, several other toes began hurting as well. Because I walk frequently for work, the pain became extremely difficult to manage, and I eventually made an appointment with a podiatrist. After examining my feet, the podiatrist found that I had nine ingrown toenails and was also showing early signs of a fungal infection. I cannot say with complete certainty where the fungal issue originated, but these problems appeared shortly after my pedicure, and I had not experienced anything like this before. I had remained loyal to this salon because of my previous positive experiences, but after being cut repeatedly during one visit and then dealing with multiple painful ingrown toenails after the next, I no longer feel comfortable returning. I am sharing this review so other customers can make an informed decision and be cautious about how their nails are being trimmed. read more

I walk in at 430pm on Saturday and told them i needed a gel mani and pedi. I wasn't expecting a long wait because i didn't see anybody waiting. They quickly told me they were closed and she gave me a business card. I was a little confused because i didn't realize it was close to their closing time. But their business card says Saturday hours are from 9am to 6pm. Their door says walk in WELCOME. So yeah, kinda disappointed and frustrated. The pedicure was great, but no one who worked there was wearing a mask (actually one person was, but he was wearing it under his nose) and what's more, they didn't ask anyone coming in the shop to wear a mask! Mind you the door is closed, there are no windows, no ventilation etc. On top of that, they didn't even make an effort to social distance- they sat people right next to each other when there were plenty of open spaces. What should have been a relaxing experience turned into me worrying about my unvaccinated (under 12yo) child the whole time- the opposite of relaxing. I use to go to this salon when they first opened ! And it has changed so much. I thought I'd give it a try and for me coming on here to give a review says a lot. I'm only giving them a 2 because at least my pedicure came out pretty, but the whole time she was doing it she was being so rough with me and then I asked her to be more gentle she wasn't. She was using tools that the girl next to me giving a pedicure was using . As for the other service I wanted was "soak off" and Julie ripped my nails so hard I cussed she didn't do a soak off she used those acrylic nails to rip off my nail. Some of the ladies are pretty friendly and will talk to you....the main guy who owns the shop is a little smart ass, but in a funny way. He always makes me laugh. There a young kid, he does an amazing job doing my gel manicure. No bubbles in the gel, he makes sure to get the edges of my nails all the time. I've been to so many other places, buy this one has been the best. I also had a pedicure done here too. They put the gel on my nails and I loved it. I've also been to other nail salons, and they had to take the gel off my toes with those spinning filers, they always cut the edges of my skin, this place never does that. I went to American Nails after going to Angel nails a few weeks before to get a full set. I got a Princess Gel Pedicure which was $40 & included calus treatment, sugar scrub, mud mask, hot stone massage, foot massage, and parafin treatment. Cindy spent a good amount of time making sure my nails looked perfect! I am so pleased! John did a fill & color change and it was AMAZING. My full set from Angel nails looked terrible and was chipping off on the sides. He evened everything out and made them look great. The atmosphere & staff were awesome. Since the mid-1990's I've been getting manis/pedis in Sacramento, San Francisco, Woodland, and Davis. I'm a nail salon veteran, for sure. For the past couple of years I've been a regular customer at American Nails, especially for pedicures. I go in a couple of times during the colder months, but at every month (or more) between March and October. I used to see Katie for pedis; she was so sweet and always gave me a top-notch pedi, but she's not there anymore. The shop owner/manager has never made me feel very comfortable, so I've done my best to ignore him. I have had a problem with the low lighting over the pedicure chairs, because the client is expected to choose a gel color during the pedicure. The light is so very low that seeing the gel samples is difficult. I'm super color-conscious and a color I see when I'm in the chair is usually not the color that I see when I step outside. I had kind of adjusted to that, though, just because Katie did great pedis. Today I went in for my first spring pedi. The chair I was shown to was way toward the back of the shop where the lighting is dim. I spent the entire time during the pedicure trying to figure out the tones of each color I was considering. Not very relaxing, that's for sure. (I do want to say that the young man who did the work was sweet, which was the only plus about my experience today.) When I went to the front desk to pay I handed over my card, as usual. The owner snapped at me about how from now on CASH ONLY! The guy has never said a word to me when I've come in and apparently doesn't recognize me as a regular customer, but there he was reprimanding me for my payment. When the owner was rude to me - and didn't even thank me for the $35 + tip I spent - I had already decided that I wasn't returning to American Nails. Then I walked outside, looked down, and shrieked. My toenails were NOT the color of the sample, at all! The sample had been a rich pink-melon, warm, but subdued. The color on my nails was BRIGHT. Seriously, it was a florescent pink. A pedicure is something I treat myself to. I tried to talk myself into living with that ghastly color for the coming month and...just couldn't do it. With gel I was stuck, as far as removing the color. I ended up driving to another nail shop (another dumpy salon in Woodland), chose a so-so rose tone from the meager number of possibilities the second salon offered, and paid another 20$ for a sloppy polish change. I am angry, and feel like I've had 55$ plus the tips stolen from me. Is there a nail salon in W-land that is managed by someone friendly, who allows the techs to take some time and not race through a pedicure AND accepts cards like any decent business does - or do I have to drive to Davis and go to G Nails every month for a pedi? She is a talented, friendly, and knowledgable nail tech that I truly trust with my salon experience. And she's a one stop shop! (Taylor does a fantastic pedi also) I like that the staff will do you feet and hands but take their time to make sure you are happy! I've lived in Davis for 2-3 years & only discovered this place almost a year after I graduated. The staff here are so nice & they take their time to make sure everything is perfect. You feel super relaxed and they have a ton of nail color selections. The only problem is they get super busy & it can be a wait so make sure that you call ahead of time. Finally found my go to nail shop. I decided to walk in one day in search of a new nail place. As I like to get full sets. Been going here for several months now. My nails last! They don't lift in between fills (I can wait 3 weeks or more with no issues). The wait has never been too long when walking in. But I like to schedule an appointment for better convenience. I enjoy John's sense of humor and his honesty when I'm deciding on length and so fourth. He is quick yet efficient and I always leave satisfied. I've had to have several nails repaired due to breaking on my behalf, and he makes sure to squeeze me in to fix them so I am quickly on my way. The only down fall, is lack of up to date nail polish options. But I can't complain, they still have quite a nice selection. read more

My usual nail guy is always booked and rarely there late afternoons so I went to find a place I thought might do "alright".. I was pleasantly surprised when I met John, he's a character for sure but it made the experience great! He did my nails with ease and I was instantly in love with them. So it's been about 2 years and this is still my go-to nail place! I started getting acrylic manicures done about a year ago, and both Julie and John are great. Julie really takes her time to do a good job--plan to spend a little extra time, but your nails will be so beautiful! I've had pedicures done by a lot of the staff, and Lana is particularly amazing. In two years, I've had a couple of mishaps (fills that didn't last long, weird shaping, even a split nail during service), but I suppose that is bound to happen when you get your nails done on the reg. I still think this is the cleanest salon in the area and a very good value for money. I've been coming here for awhile now and I can honestly say that the owner, always have my nails looking great. Out of all the places that I have gone to he's the only one that understands me when I say that I want the acrylic to look as natural as possible. There has been two other people that have done my nails here, however they made my nails look really thick and uneven. When it comes to the pedicures I have to go somewhere else. The lady with the bob haircut has done my pedicures that last couple of times and my toes look horrible. Since I had gel nail polish instead of letting the gel soak off, she took an electric file to toes. So now the nails are all bumpy, honestly more bumpy than Main street. The scrub and massage is mediocre at best. I really like the younger girl who did my pedicure awhile back. She took the time to scrub and make sure that my feet were soft and when it came to the massage she kept asking if the pressure was ok, and adjusted as needed. On this last visit I was kept waiting for over 20 minutes. Even though there was only one client besides me in the store. I was quickly sat down, however the owner was in the back smoking and trying to fix the wax warmer. I don't think that I would have minded so much if another worker had taken the old color off while the owner fixed the wax warmer. read more

Just got my nails filled and polish changed. I showed her the picture ..which I don't expect to match 100% but this heart is so uneven. There's dimples and bubbles in the polish. My tips are sharp as hell.. first time I had my nails done I paid $30 for a full set of acrylic with gel polish. This was a fill with the change of polish and I was $25. I made a Yelp account just to write this review: I got the $25 deal for eye lash extensions and IT WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Horrible service. She rushed it because they were supposed to be closed but said she would do my lashes when I went in and asked about their services. The owner glued my eyes together and BLAMED IT ON ME! She said it was my fault because I "moved" too much. I can't help that my eye was twitching due to her poor handling. After gluing my eyes together, she tried prying them apart. The glue they use is super glue and let me tell you, it was the most painful experience of my life. She was tearing at the skin around my eyes. Also, she started using sharp tweezers to try to scrape the glue off of my lash line. It felt like someone was taking a blade and making cuts around my eyes. On top of that, she even tried using ACETONE on a q-tip and put it AROUND MY EYE. This is dangerous and can make you BLIND!!! I had to hold my friends hand the whole time because it was just THAT painful. The lashes they used are tacky, thick pieces of plastic. It looks completely unnatural and EXTREMELY UGLY! You can't even remove them afterwards. You have to wait 2 weeks for these hideous things to fall off. Due to her prying and excessive force on my eyes, a lot of my real lashes have fallen off and have been damaged. She also glued some lashes into my waterline, causing my left eye to be infected! Now my eyeball is bright red and irritated. I can't even wear my contacts. I am not exaggerating on the horrible experience I had or the pain I had to endure from this woman. I have tattoos and this experience was much more painful. It was torture. I couldn't help but cry, whimper, and scream out in pain when she was stabbing and pulling at my eyes. She even left glue on my eyelid which I had to scratch off when I got home. This resulted to a chunk of my skin being peeled off along with the glue. Now after all this pain, it would have been more worth it if the service was good and the results were nice. But no. They said bad things about me in their native language. After she was done torturing me her whole family was in the front of the salon laughing about me and saying mean things. They blamed ME for their horrible service and job. Not only that but my eyelashes are CROOKED and one eye had lashes clumped together into sections. I told them that my left eye is longer than the right and they told me it's because my eyes are crooked with one going up and one slanting downward. No. My eyes are not crooked and slant in opposite directions. I would know, they are my eyes. They continuously didn't accept the responsibility of their failed business. THIS PLACE IS DANGEROUS, UNSANITARY, AND HAS HORRIBLE SERVICE. DON'T COME HERE. TRUST ME. read more

All the locals come here! I've come to this nail place about 10 or more times for gel manicure and I absolutely love it. The staff are fun and spicy and they do an absolutely amazing job for an excellent price. If you're looking for a super fancy over priced nail place this isn't the place you're looking for, but if you are looking for a quality job with great service, I would definitely recommend. Ssssoooooo..... I came here with a referral so thought it would be a good thing. I am in the nail industry so I know a thing or two. Had an appointment with John and was greeted nicely. I even told him I used to do nails thinking he would take more attention with mine. I even stated that it was hard to find some good to do my nails because I'm picky. The shop was not busy at that time. He was nice enough but when I ask for corrections, I was ignored. I left with lop-sided nails ( yes, even though your natural nails can be crooked, they cAn be over corrected to look straight especially getting a new set). And no natural curvature. I enjoyed the "Honey American Princess" pedicure. It was fun to choose my scrub/mask scent from their bar. Overall it was a good experience with a nice, long and thorough pedicure. I like that they dim the lights in the pedicure area. My only complaint is that their chairs could use some updating.
