Verse Toujours, is a classic but unassuming Brasserie on the Avenue des Gobelins. During the warmer months the brasserie's seats and tables spill over onto the sidewalks with a bubbly group of regular patrons, offers a typical but not touristy Parisian setting.
We go for the food which is good and affordable. The Brasserie has long served a Gaspacho soup which is both rich and garnished with shaves of Grana Padano cheese. This is a starter stalwart and worth ordering.
This time around, I decided on duck, which in this incarnation was not my favorite magret de canard but rather what they call a Daffy Duck burger, which offered amazingly good duck meat with a mushroom sauce in the presentation of a burger with bun and with great frites. Don't let the name put you off as it almost did to me. This is a very appealing and affordable dish which we washed down with a nice Rose wine.
My wife had Salmon tartare which was presented with a lovely garnish of greens and julienne of vegetables.
Verse Toujours is a neighborhood Brasserie in the trendy 5th that's well worth visiting. There's an English language menu if you need a lifeline, but you will not feel awkward here. Service is good but sometimes rushed yet Verse Toujours is well worth a visit. read more
