Namely, my heavy iron screen door to the balcony kept slamming shut, the guest bedroom door was cracked and could no longer be closed properly or locked, and the kitchen faucet was driving me crazy with this constant drip....drip...drip. Plus, I wanted John's ideas on new kitchen lighting and paint colors, which will be the next project. John came by on a Monday to measure the doors and assess the damages. I think he went shopping on Tuesday at Home Depot, and by Wednesday afternoon, my entire list of broken stuff was repaired beyond my expectations, once again, while I was at Nordstrom's enjoying my day. I am so happy with his work, especially with the beautiful new kitchen faucet, the iron door closes without slamming, and the privacy of a locking door for the guest bedroom once again. My first thoughts were to have a barn door installed to enclose the entire area. But as I played around with various room design apps, I realized a barn door would close off a lot of space. Once I created a general image via image editing apps, I sent out several requests for quotes on Yelp. Many of the requests wanted me to call them so they could come give me a quote. None of them gave me much to go on unless I would agree to an appointment. From the beginning, Matt was different. He was personable and asked additional questions to be able to answer my questions the best he could without me having to commit to a future appointment. He responded immediately and offered a few options for me regarding next steps. He was very knowledgeable and did not have a pushy approach. For these reasons, I decided to move forward with Vision Remodelers. After I had Matt come by to give me a more accurate quote other than him just going by the image I created, I hired Matt to begin this project. A corner of the plaster ceiling in the living room was falling away from the lathe. He was able to quickly cut out the deteriorated section and replace, mud, prime and paint over a two-day period. In addition, before our most recent tenants moved in, Mark painted the entire place (2 bed, 1 bath) over the course of a 3 day period. In addition, during this time he was able to do some repair work throughout (drywall, carpentry, etc.) In the summer of 2015, Mark helped my wife and I make our kitchen a reality. This was a complete gut-rehab. He moved a wall, completely rewired the kitchen, laid a new floor and floated it into the existing hallway floor (hardwood maple), installed new cabinets, moved the drain lines to put the sink in front of the window, added a dishwasher and crafted a pretty sweet washer dryer enclosure. We contacted him for multiple bids for work we needed done around our home over time, and he provided us with 3 very reasonable quotes. We could not do all the work at once, so we hired him for one project to start with--to build a fence in our back yard. We paid him a deposit of half the cost of the project per our agreement. Work to start the following week. It appeared that he did not actually have an available crew or the necessary equipment to do the job and rather than be honest with us, he strung us along for almost 2 weeks with assurances that he was going to be getting his guys out. We ended up with only 6 poorly installed posts that were only 2 feet deep which we later learned is not in accordance with city code. He also installed them 3 feet in from our property line because he said the ground was overrun with vines and roots, making it impossible to dig through. This is true if you don't have the right equipment. When we questioned him on these points, he became very hostile, stated that correcting his work was "impossible" and hung up on my husband when he stated we wanted our money back. All our attempts to contact him have been ignored. We have never experienced a situation like this with contractor that came so highly recommended. We trusted him based on his reviews and our friends' recommendation and are now out a few thousand dollars. You can PM for more details if you are thinking of hiring him for anything. I should have guessed when I tried to schedule with him, and he asked me to remind him the…read moreafternoon before. I sent him pictures of the jobs we wanted him to do, which he acknowledged, saying that it looked like a full day's worth of work. I reminded him the afternoon before, as requested, and he then told me he had another job in the morning. He then texted me the morning of and asked if he could bring a helper, doubling the hourly rate but getting more done more quickly. I approved (stupidly). He then showed up and asked me if they were going to be working inside or outside (all of the jobs I had texted him about and sent pictures for were obviously inside). I walked him through it, and he told me he could do all of the work. Fast forward to when the work was completed (poorly). My wife called him to complain about the way his guys left things, and he started trying to pit my wife and I against each other. He changed his story several times--despite the fact that most of our communication was via text, so I had records of it--and tried to paint me as the bad guy to my wife. To his credit, he wound up coming out to try to fix some of the problems himself. However, he wasn't able to fix much of it the day he came, and he offered to get us a discounted quote on fixing the rest of it. We declined. He explained on this last day (after the fact) that it is difficult to exactly match paint colors (for covering patches he did on the walls) and that he wasn't able to tack down the area of carpet we had asked him to on the first day because he isn't a carpet-layer. Had he explained these two things upfront--and had he not engaged in all of the emotionally manipulative b.s.--this review may have been different. As it is, I wouldn't recommend hiring him for any more-involved work. If you need a cabinet fixed or bathroom hardware mounted, he's probably a fine candidate. For anything more complicated, my experience leads me to recommend going in a different direction. Photos are of "completed" work.
