Dr. Anna Walker saved our german shepherd's life. Our dog is twelve and flipped her stomach. We rushed her to VEG. They saw her immediately. They were able to diagnose the issue quickly and were so very helpful guiding us towards making the right decision for our girl. We were able to stay with our dog the entire time. We could even watch the surgery. Our dog survived, and seems better than she was prior to the incident. We've been to the San Rafael hospital where they take your pet and you have no visibility into what's happening and your pet is stressed. This experience was so much better. I highly recommend VEG. Our sweet dog had three cluster seizures in an hour and we had to rush to this emergency room at 1:00am which was super stressful. Every single person we encountered at the clinic was incredibly kind and loving. Dr. Tracy, was so knowledgeable, compassionate, and the exact calm presence that we desperately needed in that moment. While VEG is very accessible and the staff is great, we had a disappointing experience. Our cat had diarrhea + vomiting. I took a stool sample in and was told all okay. Then our second cat got same issues. Now first cat is 10 days into this and the second is sick. Our regular vet wisely measured many more possible causes with the next sample and identified the problem which we are now treating. It could have been solved with first labs. So meanwhile, two cats poop all over the house, don't eat, etc. This seems sort of basic in terms of diagnostics. read more

I don't think my dogs would've survived the overdose of pills that they got into if it weren't for the careful care of Doctors Valerie and Tracy. Absolutely loved this place! My dog Brutus jumped out of the truck in just the wrong way and hurt himself. We live in Santa Rosa but was visiting my mother. After a quick google search we found VEG. Not sure what to expect as we only have VCA near us and WOW. We wish they had one in Santa Rosa! The care was exceptional. They talked us through everything, and we got to see and be with our boy the whole time. Hopefully we never have to go back but if we do I know where we are going. We had a great experience at VEG. Our pup had eaten some dark chocolate, and I thought it was prudent to take him there, even though I knew he didn't have much. They were so kind and attentive, and the doctor came over to interview me, take the information, look up the amounts and told me our pup would be just fine and to take him home. I was expecting a visit charge, since it was at 10 pm and I know these places need to make money, and was surprised and happy that they weren't just trying to charge for unnecessary services to "cover" themselves. I wish I could give this group ten stars! I could not have hoped for better care for my "pup" (and for me!) When my 120 pound lab began frantically vomiting at 2 am, I loaded him in my car and expected I would have to wait hours to have him seen by a vet. I'd seen VEG when I shopped at Trader Joes' and raced over. What happened next was truly amazing. The minute we walked through the door, several professionals approach us - nurses and a vet addressing my dog's needs and a customer service rep addressing my frantic state. A team of nurses, spent a minute calming my dog. They took us back to the x-ray room. Two nurses, didn't even think of muzzling my big boy. They had developed trust with him and despite his 120 pounds (more than each of them weighed) they gently lifted him over three feet onto the xray table. Nothing short of miraculous. They then had to move him this way and that, and roll him on his back with his feet stretched out to get the film that was needed. They were so gentle and calming with him, he patiently allowed them to do the maneuvering they needed. He completely trusted their gentle manner. What I particularly loved about this place is that rather than taking my dog to the "back room", they allowed me to come into the x-ray room while they set up and when it was time to close the door for the x-ray to begin, I was able to watch through a large window in the door. My dog could see and hear me which I believe helped us both relax. The nursing care was brilliant. As was the care I received from the vet, Dr. Walker. She checked in on the x-ray procedure and explained everything very patiently with me. We had the radiologist report within less than 15 minutes and luckily, the news was not the worst as I expected. In my time there, I was provided with amazing care - not to mention, cookies, tea and all manner of treats and soothing conversation. My pup needed a follow up x-ray the next day. They waived the emergency fee since this was a 24 hour follow up. While the staff were different, the care was equally brilliant. A new team of nurses, soothed him and lifted him on the table, stretched him into a variety of necessary poses and kept him calm and relaxed. Again, the vet was engaged in his care, providing much help to me with my questions. The customer care rep could not have been kinder. I've had several experiences with our other local Emergency Vet Clinic in San Rafael. I believed the staff were caring but seemed so overworked and understaffed, I always felt like a number in a long line and often waited several hours for my pup to be seen. I had marginal access to the vet who seemed rushed with little time for my questions. The visits always seemed stressful for my animals and for me. I rarely right such a detailed review but the care we received at VEG was extraordinary - from everyone! I took my dog in to say thanks to everyone a few days later. I laughed when he ran to the door looking for his friends that had treated him so well. No reluctance whatsoever. That says a lot about the kind of care I want for my animals - especially in an emergency. I'm so grateful we now have this clinic in our community. When the next emergency arises, and I know it will, the ride to the clinic will, for me, be less stressful and I know my animals will have the best care available. Once we arrived, we spoke with a doctor within minutes--a stark contrast to our previous experience of waiting hours just to be admitted at the PESCM ER one freeway exit away. We already knew Maverick needed surgery, and the VEG team didn't miss a beat. They acted quickly, making sure every step of the process was clear. I was able to stay with Maverick until I decided it was time to let the team take over. Nurse Ali took great care of him, ensuring he was calm before administering anesthesia. The team's professionalism and efficiency gave me confidence in that moment. Two hours later, we received a call from Dr. Jason--Maverick had made it through surgery, and they had removed a squeaker toy from his small intestine. After visiting VEG for a painful and difficult situation I will NEVER take one of my cats to Pet Emergency in San Rafael again. The staff at VEG were amazing! My old man cat, Sammy, had stopped eating Sunday two weeks ago and I got super worried. The following day after returning home from my own doctor's appointment I noticed his breathing had become labored. My dad had previously brought his Irish Terrier to VEG for foxtails and such and had highly recommended them so I rushed Sammy over there. They immediately got us into a room and triaged us, all while asking if I needed anything (food, drink, anything). As the doctor rolled the ultrasound machine in reception brought me some fizzy grapefruit water. The doctor did the ultrasound right in front of me while I was able to comfort Sammy (who is super sensitive to strangers and new situations). She gave me the horrifying and painful news right away, both clearly and very compassionately. Sam had fluid build up around his lungs and congestive heart failure, and that he was in pain trying to breathe. While I was trying to wrap my head around this devastating information she kept assuring me that Sammy was so obviously loved and so obviously trusted me considering that he wasn't trying to run away / hide / hiss / or swipe but kept burying his head in my side. She gave me the breakdown of my two choices: there was an expensive procedure they could do to remove the fluid around his lungs but it would only give me a small amount of more time with him and could potentially stress him out even more, or I could let him go peacefully. I was UGLY sobbing at this point and could barely think straight. I asked her what she would do, and she answered me honestly, that she would let him go peacefully. So, I made the decision to do just that. They treated Sammy with as much kindness and dignity as they could, even speaking about him after he passed as if he were still with us physically and not just spiritually. They treated me with kindness, compassion, empathy, and respect as well. I will never forget the kindness they showed to Sam and me and will be forever grateful for making an extremely painful and difficult situation just that more bearable. I was greeted first by the smell of fresh baked cookies, the. by the friendly and empathetic receptionist. She got us checked in quickly, regardless of the rush, into our room and with a dr. within a very reasonable amount of time. We were seen by Dr.Kwon, who is knowledgeable and professional. Later, an ultrasonographer travelled from out of town just to help my cat. Additionally, our overnight stay was as comfortable as a hospital could be, complete with a pull our bed, soft lighting and an abundance of snacks. Horrible, unprofessional staff. I'm typically understanding when it comes to medical professionals but this place is worst pet ER I have ever been to and I would avoid it at all costs. They mishandled my dog so poorly, it was hard to believe. I feel so bad for him but he needed care or else I wish I would have gone elsewhere. They did a procedure on him that typically required sedation and they didn't sedate him. He was in so much pain. These people suck. I came in with my little terrier who is my best friend. I didn't have any money and I was desperate. They took very good care of his needs. He is still very sick and I'm scared but I will keep him uplifted in prayers and fight this with him. The nurse who helped us gave me gas money out of her own pocket and the entire staff treated us like we mattered even though we didn't have any money to pay. First and foremost, after some clear and mindful thinking and after careful review of everything. I need to clarify a huge misunderstanding that happened to me at the VEG . Previously, I posted a horrible review based on my emotional state at the time. I said some things about Dr. Savino that was probably very hurtful and for that, I want to say that I am truly sorry. I came into the VEG with a rescue kitten that I tried to save from some horrible kids who were kicking and harming a baby kitten. I had no where else to go with this kitten because it was on a Monday and the Humane Societies were closed in every county! The kitten didn't make it unfortunately and had to be put to sleep. Upon arrival, I want to say that the team of doctors there did an excellent job. They really did ALL that they could do to save the kitten. But the kittens injuries were internal and so severe . The internal injuries couldn't be clearly seen on the x-ray and as time went on became much worse, which no one could predict. Occasionally the kitten would stop breathing, and then start breathing again. It was very sad to witness. Dr, Savino and I had a conversation regarding the x-ray report and clearly there was a huge misunderstanding about this. I became upset and hurt because I thought this Doctor lied to me? But in actuality she DID NOT LIE AT ALL! It was just a case of Mis-information not being understood in a clear manner that made sense to me? I am very passionate and love ALL creatures! My understanding at that point was foggy and unclear which led to me blaming the death of the kitten on Dr Savino. I was so wrong and I cant say how sorry I am enough! After having several conversations with the Director Jason who was very patient and understanding with me, Jason , being a caring person showed me the x-ray report and explained to me in a very detailed way exactly what happened and why the kitten succumbed to its injuries. Which was very severe! I really expected a miracle, but a miracle didn't happen that day. What did happen was a wonderful team of doctors ALL did the very best they could to give the best care and attempt to save the kittens life! And for that I am truly grateful. At this point, I am ashamed at myself for being so emotional and not thinking rational about the whole situation with the x-ray. My sincerest apologies to Dr. Savino and ANY STAFF MEMBER who helped work on that kitten. It wasn't my intention to scar the name of ANYONE there on the VEG team. These are truly some of the best emergency vets that Marin has to offer this community. So, with that being said, I want to fully disregard my previous review, because it was not true, but only a huge mis-understanding on my part. I hope you all can forgive me? I brought my dog in with heart failure, and they saved her. Then, a few months later she had other problems. I brought her in three times in five days and each vet misdiagnosed her. They kept prescribing medication that wasn't at all for the correct problem. She got worse and worse I didn't complain about the charges since I wanted to stay a customer. then a couple months later they refused to see us again when I called to thank a vet for advice in the middle of the night when she told me not to bring her in, they tell you you can call to get advice and you call to see. Should you bring her in and then when you called to thank the vet for the advice, they kick you out because they don't like you calling so much. me my dog my business if I review and have us continue to customers and to give us a refund for all the incorrect diagnosis before that they have the worst customer service I've ever I've never heard of an emergency away animals when you called to thank them on the phone because they don't like you calling them. Had to take my pup in today and was my first visit to VEG. I was beyond impressed. The entire team is so caring and professional. I have never experienced this type of emergency care for my pets. I heard good things about the practice and drove a little further just so I could see what everybody is speaking of. It was so worth it. While the vet techs were lovely, the vet, Caitlyn Wilson, was the rudest, most unprofessional experience I've ever had. She mocked me for being distraught over my ill dog, listed prices as if I needed to choose off a menu based on how much I loved my pet before even checking what was wrong, and then despite her obsession with pricing- didn't mention the $225 extra for her to read me the different options. It is really difficult for me to believe she has any sort of medical license as she repeatedly said "girl bye" in a mocking tone as I was asking about it my bill. Took my dog in as I was worried her tooth might be infected. I was greeted right away by staff and seen by the doctor within 3 min!! Although they don't have dental services, the doctor and vet tech took her vitals and palpated for any swelling or pain - at no charge! They comforted me in knowing that she could be seen by my regular vet in a few days. No urgency. I was so impressed!! I love the openness of the facility. When I looked on Yelp to find a 24-hour emergency vet in my area, VEG popped up, and since they had good reviews I took the chance, not having ever been there, I chose them to care for my unwell dog. I feel so lucky to have made that choice. First of all, my dog was much sicker than I had originally thought. Having picked VEG, I had, without knowing it, set my dog up for a successful recovery, which may not have happened in other hands. Their set up is immaculate and they have everything needed on hand. My dog had X-rays, bloodwork, IV, etc. and the nice part was that I got to be with him the whole time. He didn't have to go away with strangers and get poked and prodded on his own--they did all the work right in front of me. Then, he had to stay overnight and since I wanted to stay with him, they turned one of the rooms into basically a hotel room. Pillows, blankets, pull out bed. Snacks and coffee on hand--disposable toothbrushes in the bathroom. And the vet and assistants were so efficient, smart, and most importantly, kind to my dog. I felt like I was in a dream scenario--a perfect veterinary experience. Because of such great care, my dog is doing well and healing from lung aspiration/Pneumonia. He had been swimming and fetching a ball in the water and seemed to have swallowed the ocean into his lungs. (I had no idea of this risk to a dog fetching a ball in the water.) The damage to his lungs was pretty severe but VEG did everything right and now he's recovering nicely. Thank you VEG team! read more

Went in on a Sunday morning as my dog was having diarrhea and vomiting episodes that were not improving. As I arrived, there was no waitlist and they had me in and out within 35 minutes! Doctor Allyson Cook saw us right away and was so kind and sweet to Mocha :) All the nurses and reception were amazing and patient too the moment I came in. One thing I really loved was being able to stay with her through our time there and see everything that was happening. While they are very nice, they do not appear to know what they are doing. After dropping a stool sample off on Saturday because my dog had diarrhea, they continued to prescribe the medicine for the wrong parasite. Even though the lab results said she had coccidia, they continued to treat Guardia. After taking another stool sample to my regular vet, I finally had the correct medication by Thursday! Anyway, do not believe I would trust them again. Ended up paying twice as much and my poor dog suffered longer than she should have. read more
