One of the things I disliked is the fact that everyone will know your business there. There's no sense of privacy and you can't go with your pet when they need to take them to the back. I liked that the dr was very informative and blunt. However, I am not sure we'll be coming back. They asked us if we wanted to go home with food and we kindly declined. They still charged us for it even after declining. Overall, the front desk was very nice. The doctor was very nice but her bedside manner could use some work. We were given an estimate for a few thousands for an unsure procedure. I did not like that.

We declined the treatment plan in hopes of our dog being able to be seen/treated at Arroyo but they're busy this week. However, Tina has been so great at looking out for the schedule and made a courtesy to reach out when there was a cancellation. With a newborn & going thru postpartum, she has been so helpful thru it all. (I am currently writing this review while my dog is there and I'm at home with the baby, wanted to do this before I forget. But also thanks to the vet tech!! ... I think her name was Angie, she had tattoos - she's been so helpful and updating me with everything) thank you Arroyo Vet Clinic!! You guys are the best!!!

I should have wrote this a while ago, but I am still incredibly upset with two incidents at his…read morevet. First, I took a very sick kitten to get treatment. The positive, I called on Christmas Eve and they were about to close and weren't opened on Christmas (obviously), but the receptionist was able to schedule us on the 26th. We get seen on the 26th, and get antibiotics to treat the kitten. All is good at this point, We come back a week later for a follow up and the vet sees the kitten is recovering well but still on antibiotics. But she insisted on giving her the first series of vaccinations. I hesitated thinking shouldn't we wait until she's completely recovered? But the vet insisted, so she gets them. I should have gone with my instinct. Later that night, around 1:30am, I wake up to find her head moving erratically and her eyes moving rapidly side to side. I immediately rush her to emergency where they gave her something to calm her and said to take her to her vet as soon as possible. So what happened, since the kitten was still recovering and her system was weak giving her the vaccinations caused a severe vestibular reaction, and permanently causing a head tilt in her. Whenever I take her to the vet that's the first thing they notice and I have to tell them the story of what happened at Arroyo. Second incident, I took another cat to check on an eye infection and they were still doing the "stay in your car, we'll get your pet to get checked or treated, etc". I asked is there any way I could be with my pet while they see her since she's very skittish with people other than my husband and I, I will wear my mask to be safe. They said "no" because of protocol. So I wait in the car. 10 - 15 minutes later the vet called to say my cat is a "spitfire" (code word, can't handle a scared cat) and ran from them, and they kind of lost her in the office, but now she's in one of the exam rooms hiding and she won't let them near. What the heck?!! Wasn't the exam room closed? And when you did catch her how did you handle and treat her?! I ask, could I just come in and try to get her and the vet said okay and let me in. They take me to the room. I find her hiding scared to death behind the computer monitor. I immediately go to her and pick her up to calm her. A couple minutes later I go out to let them know I have her and the staff just gives me this look like "how did you get her so fast and hold her". This is why I will only go to a vet who lets you be with your pet through the whole exam. Who knows what they are doing and how they are handling your pet behind closed doors. Because of these incidents I will not be going back to Arroyo and have been trying to find another vet I can trust.

I originally started coming here for training with Ria when I brought home a new puppy and my other two dogs were not getting along with him. Through her training, all of my dogs have developed the skills they needed. The training is ongoing and I've been able to go at a pace that works for my schedule and budget. I now feel much more in control of my dogs' behavior. All three of my dogs are reactive in different ways and the training has made a huge difference. Ria is incredibly knowledgeable and takes the time to explain things in a way that actually helps me understand what I'm doing and why. She's also very consistent, which I really appreciate. I've worked with other trainers before, but it never felt like an ongoing relationship where I could ask questions or continue learning like I can with Ria. We've done both individual sessions and group reactivity classes and I love that my dogs get to practice being around other dogs in a structured, non-judgmental environment. I've seen real progress in each of them. One has improved with aggressive and overprotective behavior, another has built confidence, and my third has gained obedience skills and improved socialization. I also use their daycare for my youngest dog and he absolutely loves it. He's been going for about six months now. He comes home happy and tired from physical activity and mental enrichment. The facility is great, the staff are caring, and I love getting photo updates. It's also a big plus that they have grooming services on-site. It gives me extra peace of mind that the facilities are all indoors and they work closely with the vet next door in case of an emergency. I'm really grateful to have found a place that supports both my dogs and me!

My travel happened a lot of times at the last minute, and overall I feel like they did a great job accommodating me and handling the situations which were sometimes chaotic. My dogs are both super high energy, and they always seem to return relaxed from their stays. I like that there are certain activities they do with the dogs and that they video / photograph it daily. I do feel like a live camera would be nice but I understand that can bring more complications. Lastly, their actual place has gotten WAY nicer since I first went there. It looks very clean and organized.

Having my animals stay over for medical reasons left me in such high anxiety it literally made me ill. Over the years it meant my life was frequently on hold because I wasn't willing to leave my babies in "jail". After my soul dog of 17 years passed last Easter I knew eventually we'd adopt again. Eventually this issue would come back around. I dreaded it. Truly. Then I discovered Backyard Buddies. I went for a meet and greet last month and Kristen and her partner provide a lovely nurturing environment for small dogs so they are NOT locked up like jail. The dogs get the run of the house complete with a large well fenced backyard. You feel the love when you're there. The animals are happy. They play together. If one or several need privacy there are large pens filled with comfy beds and toys. Floors have plastic laminate to ensure accidents are not such a big deal. I'm told scolding does not happen there. It's understandable that puppies have accidents. Seniors too. They are well equipped for both young and old. My new puppy (just 5 months) had his first day visit this weekend. We dropped him off at noon and returned at 4. I was worried like all moms after leaving. It was our first big separation. But in less than 15 minutes I received a lovely video from Kristen showing me how happy my baby was. He was playing like he'd been coming there for months. Im not exaggerating to say, this will change my life! He's got a safe space, full of love and freedom and friendship at Backyard Buddies. . I received a few more messages to let me know how great he was doing. It's going to allow me to travel and know he's in the next best place than my arms. I can't thank them enough. I have told anyone that will hear me. Check them out. Although maybe I shouldn't because if they get too popular I might not get him booked. Kidding aside. Please seriously consider them. And best of all, they don't force you to do a million unnecessary and expensive things. They understand what our dog needs, what's realistic given his age, and what will give him the best outcome. Previous vets ignored what we told them, and instead demanded a million exams and tests that aways cost a ton. Good Samaritan listens to you, and if they can help your pet without charging you an arm and a leg, they do so without hesitation. A+ all the way around.

Dr. Doe, Dr. Ekloff and a couple of other vets whose names I no longer remember, took care of our "kids". After they both passed, we decided not to have any more dogs as we were heading toward retirement and more travel. Then in late 2023, Mochi, a 3-year-old purebred Shiba Inu needed a temporary home. We knew her and her humans and brought her home to stay with us for a couple of weeks. When we realized that she was going to need a new forever home, we had to decide whether to give her up to another family or keep her for ourselves. Sentimentality once again beat out common sense. So, we changed her name, re-registered her existing chip, bought pet insurance and looked into a new vet. In order to do our due diligence, we checked yelp ratings and then called around. Many offices, including Good Samaritan, were crushed by volume during the COVID-19 epidemic and were not accepting new patients. A computer check showed that we were still listed in their computers even though at least 15 years had passed. Because of the past patient relationship, Mochi was accepted as a patient. We managed to make a wellness check appointment with Dr. Doe, the owner, to establish baselines. The following month, we received a letter from Dr. Doe stating that he was retiring. Since then, we've been to the office a few times, for vaccine's, a nail trim and once when she had something sticking out of her b*tt. The staff and especially one vet tech were kind and helpful to us and our fur baby. On the last visit, we met another Vet who I had a great conversation with regarding food, diet and weight control. I'm sorry that I forgot her name, but she really spoke with enthusiasm and authority without trying to sell anything offered at the office. I knew that if she were the attending vet, we would be in good shape. We take very good care of our Princess. At the vet's suggestion, we took her off of Science Diet but Lamb and Rice as her main diet and switched to "fresh foods" from Ollie. She still gets a few bits of kibble sprinkled with her food and it's also used as a training tool. This past Monday, while on her evening walk, I noticed that her ear looked a little off. When we got home, I saw that most of the fur behind her right ear was gone as well 1/2 the fur from her left ear. There wasn't much we could do. We did have some hot spot spray and used it, but it didn't seem to make much difference. On Tuesday morning, we call Good Samaritan to schedule an appointment to have Mochi checked. We were told that they were booked up and the earliest available appointment was on July 31. Not 24 hours later, but 24 DAYS later. We were also told that we could be added to the waitlist should any appointments be cancelled and if we were really concerned, to take Mochi to an Emergency Veterinarian Hospital or try another vet. It leads to me wonder if day to day health is taking a backseat to scheduled wellness visits and vaccinations. One thing for sure, I see no reason to return to Good Samaritan.

The process is relatively painless, though there are lots of rules you should be aware of to keep your pet safe and the neuter process manageable. You first need to book an appt on their website and pay a $120 deposit. Be aware; spots fill up very quickly and if you cancel without more than 24 hours notice you will forfeit your deposit. You will need to fill out an intake form before the appt to make sure your pet is old enough and weighs enough beforehand (if not, you should reschedule or risk losing your $120 deposit). Day of the appointment, there's a drive through line for you to check in your pet at the designated time, a process which moves quickly. Drop off and pickup were both very easy and the directions given were clear and detailed. You will also have the option to add other services in top of the neuter/spay surgery, including some vaccines, flea protection, etc. and pay when you arrive. So important to have services like this available to the community, and I highly recommend checking out East Bay SPCA for all your spay/neuter needs!

We were looking for a new vet for my dog since moving to Castro Valley. Our old vet had a small…read moreoffice and was always booked out weeks and weeks in advance. After looking extensively at reviews, I ended up getting an appointment here with Dr. Alyssa Ma! We were coming in with concerns for some bumps and a mass on my dog's eye. My sister and I are always pretty careful when it comes to coming to the vet because my dog is extremely reactive to other animals, which makes it hard for us to go to areas with other animals. The front desk staff and vet techs are incredibly kind and accommodating with our request to hide other animals when our dog comes in or go in through the side or back. Our first visit went really well and with my previous experience at our previous vet, I was expecting the bill to be extremely costly.... Dr. Ma did the consultation (i believe it was $80), tested 6 bumps and cut his nails and it was around ~$300 total. We actually came in wanting to test 5 but she saw another one while taking a look at the others and tested that as well. I was expecting to be charged for each bump they test, but surprisingly it was all just under one cost. She told us the results right away. For the mass on my dogs eye, she recommended a few options, and we went with the surgical route. She gave me an estimate of each item/test/medication/procedure to be done to my dog and I was able to pick what I wanted and the cost would update based on that. Everything from pricing, procedures, etc were transparent and reasonable. We were also able to schedule his surgery pretty soon after that initial consultation! When we picked my dog up from surgery, I was expecting him to be on the cone, but he came out without it and they told us he was really good so they didn't put the cone on for now. At home, he recovered well without using the cone! :D We had another visit recently because my dog got in a tussle with a skunk and got all scratched up on his face!!! We called a ton of emergency vets and they were either too far or couldn't take him. I called Eden at around 8:30 am on a Friday and even though they were booked for the day, they got me on a waitlist and called me at around 2:00 pm to let me know they had a cancellation and that they would be able to take us at 4:00 pm. Honestly, just amazing customer service from the team at Eden. They are incredibly efficient and understanding. The pricing is very reasonable and they are very transparent. My dog also loves it here cos Dr. Ma and the techs who worked with us always talk to him sweetly and gives him a lot of pets.

Overall a good experience and we would come back to bring our cat in and for any continued care.
