I'm a Lifetime VFW member and this is the only VFW Post review I've ever written. If there were 7 stars, they would get that. Here's why:
During my last trip to Beebe, there was a lot of concern for a retired Army Sergeant Major living in Beebe. His health is failing and the local family caring for him needs help. This is a man who has shouldered more than his share of our nation's (and European) defense. He leaves behind a family with extensive military service. He epitomizes selfless service and leadership. There is more than enough world history he participated within that cost him more than he will admit. He will never get the deserved credit from all of those able to read this review in the US and Europe. He kept us safe and enjoying freedoms. (Yes, my Yelp German friends, he was there looking out for you as you were growing up.) So back to the VFW Post.
I was looking for advice on how to help this family care for him and saw cars out front of the local VFW Post early on a Saturday morning. I went in the typical looking VFW post to ask for their thoughts and suggestions. The interior of the building was cared for and very inviting. Signage was up promoting various activities and recognizing the military branches.
There was a small group in a closed meeting, but stopped when I interrupted and without any reservation or question, took on this project. They didn't waiver. They jumped on this need. They even refused to except payment for the costs. This was a mission they were ready to carry out.
This past Thanksgiving, folks from their post provided a Thanksgiving feast for this family and this man who we all owe a thank you for our freedom to Yelp away the years. The feast was cheerfully delivered to the door. This VFW post now has the back of the man and his family who protected our back for many years. This family no longer feels alone caring for this great man.
I wish I was closer to this post as I'd be a regular. It obviously has members and leadership who understand the meaning of service. read more
