This is a must stop in Barcelona! Rated #1 on trip advisor and lived up to the rating. I had the suckling pig with peach chutney and my wife ordered the cod in blood orange sauce. Both dishes were excellent choices. The pig was tender and fell apart when lightly pulled at with my fork and the sauce was heavenly. Just sweet enough to complement yet not overpower the dish. The cod was flakey and again the sauce was amazing. The meal was complete with drinks. You must order the blackberry monitor when here. A pop of mint at the start and finish mixed with the sweet and tart blackberry in between. Amazing! The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly. The owner made us feel like family. We will be back. One tip, make a reservation days in advance or else you will be waiting a long time and seated at the bar. But this too is worth the wait. read more

Viana was my husband's and my favorite restaurant in Barcelona. The wait staff was phenomenal. Our food was amazing. It's a very small space and we were able to get a table but only had a two hour window to stay there because our reservation was sort of last-minute. Positives: Service is very friendly and helpful no matter how crazy it is. 4.5/5 for service Negatives: food is average. Hence value is not as good. Was ranked among the top 5 on trip advisor, and had solid reviews on Yelp. Challenge to find good resto not overrun by tourist continues. It seems besides Michelin starred (not eaten at one yet) places, it is hard to find great places to eat in the city. Madrid and esp Seville on the other hand are way ahead in this regard in my books. If you're stuck in this part of the city, this might be a reasonable bet as this is in the heart of Barcelona's tourist hotspot. We searched for a close restaurant near cathedral of barcelona and fortunately bumped into Viana. The tiny restaurant was full and we waited for 30 minutes to be seated on the bar. Food 4.5/5. Great food presentation and nicely made cuisines. All tapas and main dishes were great but the slow cooked chicken was unexpectedly dry. Their famous blackberry mojito was on the sweeter side. Service 3/5. Busy restaurant, very crowded. The not-so-friendly servers were running back and forth and weren't able to give us attention. read more

We went to Viana but it was completely packed. The hostess was so nice to call their sister restaurant Gran Viana that just opened down the street ( had the same menu) and reserve us a table right away! The manager even came out to walk us to the restaurant. The food and drinks were fantastic! Go here go here go here!! Though I know that I don't need to sing this place's praises as it is already super popular, I will still post a brief review. You need to go here if you are visiting Barcelona! The entire staff is incredibly friendly! We told them it was our anniversary when we made the reservation and they brought us champagne and cordials on the house! The food was exquisite and we just kept eating and eating and eating as everything was so delicious. Make sure to book in advance or else there is no way that you are getting a seat. Went here because of a friend's recommendation and loved it- one of my favorite restaurants from my trip to Spain. We went straight there after landing on a Saturday night around 10pm with no reservations; we waited for about 30 minutes until some seats opened up at the bar. The host was super sweet, constant smile on his face and brought out sangrias for us while we waited! There were many others waiting so this place is definitely popular- if you can, make reservations ahead of time to avoid the wait. We had the carpaccio, prawn/veggie rolls, patatas bravas, and burrata. Loved all of it except the carpaccio- ONLY because we wanted to try it but just realized raw meat isn't really our thing lol. But they noticed we didn't eat much of the carpaccio and in the end, took it off our bill without us asking which was very nice and appreciated. Service was fantastic! read more

If you have any peanut or nut allergies I'd head somewhere else bc about 85% of their menu has nuts. Was just going to leave no big- but then a guy with dreads like SHOUTED in my face about the menu when I reiterated, "but I can't eat anything processed or cooked with nuts" and he literally was like "CAN YOU LISTEN?" very aggressively and loud. Dude if you're trying to convince a woman with severe peanut allergies to stay, don't shout in her face lol. I was very taken aback to say the least, so I said "...I don't like the way you just spoke to me so I'm leaving". I then went directly across the street and explained my peanut allergies and I was immediately accommodated with kindness and consideration :) I'm soooo full. My constructive feedback as a customer that literally walked across to another restaurant with a longer wait time and gave my money to them for an 8 course meal... is: 1) Please don't shout in women's faces. It's rude and destroyed any chance of me staying even tho I already didn't think it was a good idea bc there were only about four or five things safe for me to order. 2) Please try to learn a little bit more about severe nut allergies .... I don't have a choice about eating nuts. I can't eat something that causes my body to go into shock, my tongue to swell, my throat to close and more. Being mean/rude or shouting at someone expressing concern and regret about having to leave isn't an effective way to convince them to stay and thus ultimately it caused me to give my business to another restaurant. Finally 3) as a woman I really try to give my business to places where male employees are always respectful to me. If you wouldn't speak to your mother, wife or sister that way... then you shouldn't speak to a female customer that way either. The thing is, I wasn't mad at all. When this happened I simply was handing them back the menus and saying, "I'm so sorry there's just so many peanuts we'll have to head somewhere else." The review is happening bc of how I was treated during that interaction. Eating peanuts, even trace amounts, is not something I can risk and daily I can't go to restaurant the yelling in my face really only confirmed I should go elsewhere and luckily I didn't even have to go ten feet to find an amazing peanut free tapas dinner! Out of this world good Tapas with hint of an Asian flare. Small place with only a few tables and tight bar. Very friendly staff. They know how to move food. The black mojito is an amazing drink. Had ceviche, shrimp Thai rolls and crispy suckling pig. We wanted to lick the plate with each course. Suckling pig was incredible. I recommend a reservation unless you want to wait. We were glad that we were able to snag a last minute table at Viana, but for a 6:30 pm dinner. The restaurant is tucked away in a tiny alley but it was not hard to find. Upon walking in, we realized how small the whole place is. That's why it is hard to get a reservation at this restaurant. Even though we were there on the earlier side, the restaurant filled up pretty quickly. The staff speak great English and were friendly. Service is fast and accurate. Drinks: They do have very interesting cocktails on their drink menu, but I opted for my usual dirty martini and the bar tender did not disappoint!! Food: We tried the Glician octopus for the appetizer and for the main course, the suckling pig and the beef cheeks and they were both delicious and really well made. Also, the plates are designed so delicately and beautifully. Great choice of bread which needs to be ordered separately. Great desserts too. The food is very reasonably priced here. great food! service is top notch! i had the steak with mushrooms, brocolli and potatoes. steak was really good and tasty but not the last word in tenderness. however, the steak was probably in line with the price i would have paid in san francisco. i paid 30 euros for the dish. my wife had the egg rolls. it was good but honestly I've had better. to be fair, the others I've had better probably had more salt and msg. dessert was 4/5. bread pudding and ice cream. the syrah was better than some of the napa / sonoma county wines that are 1.5x to 2x the price. recommendations: make a reservation weeks in advance. this place is small. otherwise you'll wait 45 minutes or more for a bar seat and even more for a table. a 5 tripadvisor rating is a pretty high bar. to me, nothing is a 5. a five means perfect. nothing is perfect. i have yet to taste a dish that is perfect. not even michelin ranked restaurants are perfect. their chefs wil yell you that. so keep your expectations low so you have room to be pleasantly surprised. read more

We tried to get into Viana without a reservation on a Sunday night in 9. They were completely booked so they sent us around the corner to their new overflow restaurant also named Viana. Don't eat there. The ambiance left much to be desired, but more importantly, the food was mediocre. The blackberry mojito was syrupy sweet. The ceviche was boring. The beef cheeks and the suckling pig both came slathered in overly sweet sauces. I really enjoyed coming to this restaurant. We went on a Saturday night at around 7 with no reservation and were seated reasonably quickly, and while we were waiting had a lovely conversation with the bartender who told us all about dishes and drinks specific to Catalan. We had some cava and sampled a couple of things and then had a really lovely meal. We started off with the patatas bravas and then had some of the pork belly which was crispy and packed with flavor. The portions are a little small but filling, and the prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere here is candlelit and cozy and yet also very modern. Just got back from this exquisite little restaurant. Other than the tiny physical capacity this place goes big: friendly, helpful staff, recommended dishes that meet or exceed expectations, every dish aesthetically presented and as a result of all these factors: well worth the price. My companion had the crispy suckling pig and I went for the creamy rice with mushrooms (minus the foie gras, at my request). The shot of grappa liquer at the end of the meal pretty much knocked me for a loop but I'm a lightweight when it comes to alcohol. We had neither starters nor dessert but those that were served at neighboring tables were definitely enjoyed thoroughly, I saw only empty plates being taken away. read more
